Thanks. I was under the impression that OA had no localized versions. I will try to fix the problem with polish and russian subtitles.
-
Try setting language to English from game options & make sure you have subs enabled.
-
That's interesting since several testers have finished the campaign without such problems. But I will give it a look. Bet the team switch problem sounds something which BIS should fix.
-
Check GAME OPTIONS->LANGUAGE and set it to ENGLISH. Check also that SUBTITLES are enabled.
-
Exactly. It was deliberate not to add any custom scripts or gimmicks so it would be more compatible with mods like ACE. Plus there was not enough manpower and time to do a total overhaul mod. I think vehicles should also work with ACE damage models.

Can't connect to EU/CZ mirrors on Sprocket, only US mirror seems to be working at the moment. -
Ambient Civilian Module Not Working
Blake replied to RolfLarsson's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
It's up to the addon makers to make the module work on their islands (like Ambient Civilians working on Podagorsk v1.1). -
I think the BAF campaign is far less complex mission-wise that OA campaign so I figure there'd be less MP issues with it. The good solution for MP version would be to have main character which would have to stay alive through all missions for the sake of storytelling but supported by "expendable" characters which would then magically appear as playables after every mission despite losses. Maybe someone can edit the campaign later on like this.

BIS just needs to add "Recoil strength" difficulty setting and whole problem is solved. And so say all of us...
-
I think BIS would love to do it that way, but I doubt it's financially possible. I have nothing against BAF, well worth the money and British really belong to ArmA 2 world. Releasing just islands would probably just serve mission editor's desires. I think it would be more commercially viable to sell DLC with island AND campaign utilizing existing units since I suspect only minority is interested in terrain to toy around with in the editor. In campaign + island DLC modellers/texturers could then work fully on the buildings and structures for the island saving them from trouble of creating new units once again. With current units BIS could create any kind of NATO operation campaign for example. In the future is larger DLC is planned, Cold War could be affordable direction to BIS' resources since they probably have much stuff on the subject and they can utilize existing models etc. so developement woudn't be that long. EDIT: In any future DLC I also hope all units are brought to OA/BAF standard, meaning carriable static weapons, FLIR, secondary sights on scoped guns etc.

Do you want upgraded Arma 2 content?
Blake replied to AnimalMother92's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Free patch and make in dependant on OA so ArmA 2 users won't get "free ride" if some people fear that. -
This has been said before, but it feels really sad that ArmA 2 units lack many good elements from OA like FLIR and backpacks plus dual sights (CQB and Scope). Helos like Ka-52 badly need the FLIR. It's also stupid to have un-camo G36 with just scope sights and camo version with both sights. Zeroing is also one essential feature that is missing. I really hope BIS will introduce patch that will add these things to ArmA 2 units to us OA owners since it's just config work mostly. At some point I hope we receive merging patch that does away with ArmA 2 compatibility and uses ArmA 2 + OA as base.

OK this thread can be closed then.

British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
Blake replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I somehow think UK troops "belong" to OA setting so buying them is a no-brainer as the price is very affordable. But if future brings yet more country-spesific units like the French and Germans I'm not sure and it will definately not depend on units themselves but other content. What would be really lovely is something like 20€ DLC concentrating on Cold War, Vietnam or WW2. -
I have the same error messages as above. Regarding the recoil, I think the betas have really taken dire straits with the recoil. It's simply annoying to drag mouse downwards after each shot and makes shooting rapid semi-automatic fire impossible. In real life the recoil is easier to manage than with mouse. It's not realistic, it's just plain annoying and probably prevents me testing more betas. Moreover, the AI is happy to blast away without any hinderance from recoil. If there's going to be deviation of the gun after each shot make it more moderate and more manageable. If it's not properly implemented I suggest going back to original OA/ArmA 2 recoÃls which I find much more satisfying. Third option is to add menu option for recoil adjustement so those craving for "hard-core" recoils can have those 45 degree upward jumps on their 556x45 assault rifles :P

failed mission erases all your saves

Try enabling "unlimited saves" from difficulty menu, then you can save different saves. -
how do i play the campaign in online CO-OP?
Blake replied to AussieSausage's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Click Single Player -> Campaign -> Host. -
Actually the objectives are similiar and interact with each other in many missions (Just played it through on a LAN) so there's a lot of co-op there to be done even though on a larger scale. I think it's refeshing change compared to ArmA 2 stock campaign which I thought was very good in it's own right. One bad point are some bugs which may or may not haunt a bit your co-op experience although restarting mission sometimes helped.

It's problematic for some online squads that some members are willing to pay for DLC and others not so there is a lot of decisions to be made wheter to jump in on the DLC wagon or not. Personally I'd like to see DLC more like full-fledged expansions which would bring A2 to completely new theaters (Like WW2 & Vietnam) and which are not necessary to include much engine changes. For example I'd gladly pay 20-40€ for WW2 expansion which would include campaign, period music, maps, units etc. the whole lot but I'd would not be willing to pay even flimsy 2€ for Spanish, French, Irish or whatever army addon which would just have units. The gameplay and atmosphere would just basically be the same. But if there's significant improvements on the code, more complex modules and other things (like realistic artillery, ability to shoot from vehicles, advance wounding simulation etc. stuff seen in VBS2) which would add new angles to gameplay I would gladly pay for them. Anyway paying for just extra units without any context or scale of an expansion would hardly be worth it.
-
Bring on WW2 expansion and let the core coders develope next generation game in the meantime. That would keep BIS in good cash flow. Vietnam or return to mid-80s Cold War would be OK too. Let's face it - mods - however good they are will never be the level of a proper official expansion. I mean voices, campaign, atmosphere, graphics, terrain, buildings...etc.
-
I think the series is moving towards the opposite direction you're claiming. Just look how much more realistic infantry combat elements like movement, suppression, AI, aiming etc. has come since OFP. Also there's now much more difference between different firearms how they behave. Plus we're getting significant avionics improvements and FLIR with OA among other features so I really don't know what you are talking about.

Maybe asked before, but I'm curious does the FLIR apply also to M1A1 tanks and possibly other vehicles? M1 tanks have greenish color scale opposed to gray/white scale in choppers and UAVs.
