    Steel Beasts 2 new screenshots

Aren't those screens from Steel Beasts Pro Personal Edition? What I've read SB Pro SE will be available in the near future with a price tag of $125 but Steel Beasts 2 will not be available for a long time.

Chinese Navy could surpass size of USN

No way Chinese Navy is going to surpass the USN in the next 10 years. That would require such a gigantic effort that they can't possibly afford it even with current economic growth. What they've done in recent years is that they've bought some old Soviet-era ships from russia and some Kilo-class diesel subs, that's it. You don't build massive navies from scratch as soon as you get blueprints on your hand, it takes decades. It requires lots thousands of experienced shipbuilding engineers, workers,r&d staff and facilities to initiate large-scale domestic production since we're not talking about tiny breadcrumb leftovers of the old Soviet Navy. Not even during height of Cold War and intensive 30-year+ buildup under Admiral Gorshkov the Soviet Navy came nowhere near the power of USN. Remember, it took from the French 20 years to design, build and test the aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle alone. Quite the contrary, primary task for such a fantasy big-as-USN fleet would be strategic power projection and such capability certainly makes using such force attractive whenever Chinese national interests would require so, like Taiwan or Spartlay islands. The only thing that has kept China from projecting it's power elsewhere is the lack of assets to do so. And this way of thinking that China is somehow exceptionally un-confrontational in it's foreign policies is beyond me, take Korean War for example, support for Pol-Pot's genocidal regime in Cambodia, attack into Vietnam in late 70s, border wars with India and Russia etc.

    T-72: Balkans on Fire

This is excellent news! I just ordered Dangerous Waters from Battlefront. looks like I've got to put up another order for T72-BOF. There seems to be no info though when it's ready for distribution in the 'west'.

    Climate Change

Yeah and 0.5% of it is caused by farting and of that 0.1% are American farts. Seriously, it's hard to dispute those photos. Change has really come so rapidly that it probably can't be just normal world warm era/cold era changing.

    S.C.S. Dangerous Waters

I agree. And they're like apples and oranges. Hopefully, there will be more sailable platforms in the future for DW. Or at least some kind of support for 3rd party addons.

    S.C.S. Dangerous Waters

DW has all that and many more platforms to control. Your statement frankly does not make any sense. Only thing I can come up with is that you've got some personal hatred towards Sonalyst. Then why you have TASM and TLAMS, Harpoon, 76mm cannons you can shoot against ground targets, Penguin missiles, Dozens of different surface vessels, missiles and planes. So what is exactly your point? Large scale - good, small scale - bad? I've played Harpoon and Harpoon II long long time ago and I respect as they are, as I do with fleet command. It's still like comparing simulations and strategy games. One game rarely has all that in one package. OFP didn't but it still a good game.

    S.C.S. Dangerous Waters

You are missing the point havoc, it's same like you'd demand ability to command divisions from OFP or air armies from IL2. They're simulators, not general or admiral-level games. I like both ways and it certainly is exciting to me when you can have tens of other players commanding different platforms ranging from subs, helos, planes and ships in multiplayer, even having several human crewmembers on board manning different stations on same ship. And who says you can't have quite big naval battles in DW.

    S.C.S. Dangerous Waters

I'm ordering it pretty soon. Â $55 with while having strong euro is not bad, especially when it comes along with hefty 500+ printed manual.

    Dangerous Waters

Have you heard about this ultra-realistic naval simulation? It allows you to control 688i,Seawolf,Akula I-II and Kilo-class submarines, Frigate Oliver Hazard Perry, P-3 Orion ASW aircraft, SH-60 ASW helicopter. And in multiplayer each platform can be manned by several other players. Definately one of the most promising sims in years. It's just gone gold and Battlefront.com is accepting pre-orders. Sadly, it's only sold on-line at the battlefron website so don't expect to see it in shops. Sequel to Sub Command and 688i Hunter/Killer. Must be very expensive to have the whole package. How about if someone just wants to shoot and do some assault stuff?

    Battlefield Britain

Anybody seen it? I think it was pretty good documentary 6-part series on decisive battles fought on British soil during the last 2000 years ( http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/trlout/TRA24330.html ). I especially liked the CGI-created recreations on battles and strategic situations. Bouddica's Revolt and Hastings were probably my favourite episodes, even though it's still almost beyond belief how 15,000 legionnaires can beat 200,000 charging British revolters on an open plain using saw-line formation... I missed 'The Armada' about 1588 Spanish attempt to invade, is it downloadable somewhere in DivX? Hoopefully there are more follow-up episodes coming and it would be lovely to see other battles fought in history brought live with similiar representation.

    German movie "Der Untergang"

OK I've got the recording of Hitler's secret discussions with Mannerheim over here in mp3 format: http://koti.welho.com/amustone/temp/secret_hitler_recording_1942.mp3 (ca.11 minutes, 10mb)

    German movie "Der Untergang"

Finnish Radio Documentary on the Hitler Visit 1942 amd secretly recorded discussion in mp3 format (Finnish narrator voice-over): http://koti.mbnet.fi/~tkwok/aatu.mp3 (ca.40mb). What the tape reveals in essence Hitler as a man with clear and humble strategic visions of the ongoing war on the with detailed knowledge of military issues at that point. He also talks how Winter War gave Germans false impression about Russian determination and that Soviets had learned much since then. Not in any point does he give any overconfident assessment of the Eastern Front. Mannerheim only asks few questions on the tape and the whole 11 minutes is mostly hitler explaining the war affairs, Mannerheim only speaks on couple of occasions.

    German movie "Der Untergang"

Just saw the movie when it premiered here and I must say it was indeed very good portrayal of last days of the Reich. It had none of the wooden acting, stiffness or over-the-top events in which so many dramas portraying powerful historical figures fall into. The atmosphere in the bunker could be felt and I found myself hoping the Red Army would advance faster to end the maddness although it also meant suffering for thousands of German women. By the way, there's interesting article here how Bruno Ganz trained for the role with the help of a tape recorded in secret when Hitler visited Finland in June 1942 to congratule his-then ally Marshall Mannerheim for his birthday. It is the only tape in existence where Hitler is speaking in private, in non-public appearance. Surprsing to me at least and a bit chilling since he's mostly known just for his fanatical speeches. EDIT: here's the link to the entire recording of private talks between Hitler, Mannerheim & representatives of finnish Govenrment (realaudio). http://ra.yle.fi/ramgen/multifoorumi/arkki/040310_01_05.ra Sound quality is surprisingly good I think... Our German-speakers on this forum naturally get the most out of it. Â
