  1. I guess its late here, I can't seem to get a plain ammo box to follow a car using a trigger that is west-repetevily. abox = setpos [ getpos car select 0, getpos car select 1, (getpos carl select 2) + 2] abox setdir getdir car that is what I use as a external script, also tried it on the on activate line of the trigger. Anyone that can help out ?

    Stupid houses

Dont forget that every house in this game is a toy-house, their ain't realistic big enough to make it look real (and the game is supposedly to be realistic go figure Now if every house was 50-100% bigger so small houses didnt look like a 1 man outdoor-toilet in size and the bigger houses in the game actually would feel big..

If you read the thread, people solved their problems by reducing the memory speed, installing the VIA 4-in-1 drivers in non-Turbo mode, or they have problems with a Hercules 3D Prophet 4500, which is a Kyro II card. So yes, experience and persistence will probably pay off and get the game running, but I don't think the problem is necessarily with the NVIDIA drivers, but they sure seem to expose the problem for some people.<span id='postcolor'> Yepp I follow the threads, and we sure do get pc's with this problem and your right its not entirely nvidia or via. But for vitoal125 part which started this thread he should just pay attention to the nvidia part and not worry about intel/ati etc :-) Just a guess but I assume the error is due to a agp timing problem or wrong access of the agp port (or mixed). Been there years ago with other cards having similar problems, updated vgart and voila no problemo back then. This new nvidia problem seem to be somewhat up the same line. But who said it should be easy running state of art pc's :-)

Some pc's will never have the problem, others will bluescreen whenever they want. nVidia has no solution yet except that his problem come creeping up after 21.80 (so they gotta have done something with newer drivers). Just take a look here for a small fraction of the bulletinboards filled up with problems of this sort : http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?start=141&catid=13&threadid=5270 For most people that installs the drivers and everything works out fine, good! For those that get a unstable pc that bluescreens/reboots whenever it wants, bad luck, try another driver :-) The fun part comes when you have a US$4300 pc like I do and get bluescreens here and there, whatever part you take out or replace don't help, downgrade few steps with the nvidia driver and voila. Being a pc technician (for 20 years) is a benefit in such caches, I don't let few problems stop me. But for the majority of homeusers with no tech skills (and persons that just dont wanna have trouble with their brand new pc) this aint good promotion for nvidias later drivers Birkoff

    gforce2 and ofp probs

Just a note here, using nVidia's newest drivers is not a good idea at the moment. There's hundreds of thousand people having problem with geforce drivers ranging from version 21.81 or newer. Mainly getting booted (bluescreen; nv4_disp.dll in w2k/xp). Bit older drivers works fine again. Theres also other things to check, bios settings (agp apparture size, agp port speed x (try 2x or even 1x to see if problem consist), fastwrite (test with it off) / sidebanding (test with it off) etc ). Also if your using a mainboard based on VIA chipset go and download their latest 4in1 driver (www.via.com) and install that. If you happen to have a soundblaster card (live series) you could try update those drivers. Quite often sb live / via / geforce isn't a perfect mix before drivers is friends:)

OFP Runs well with Windows ME?

Regarding WinXP/2K (or even Linux) and compability etc. What it boils down to is these few elements 1) Own competance & skills regarding building the hardware and configure the OS itself correctly. 2) What hardware parts you have, if you buy the cheapest stuff you sooner or later run into incompability problems or lack of drivers etc. Good well known brands is the safest way to go, always check hardware compability lists before buying parts. 3) Before you start shopping a PC consider and decide WHAT OS you wanna run, then buy the PC that suits that OS not the PC first without considering what OS will work (or not From receiving "broken pc's" from clients that we sold w95/98/me/2k/xp etc machines to, statistics shows that in most cases it is the owner of the pc that just dont have the skill (but thinks he is master of the world to maintain the hardware and-or software. Typical errors is upgrades without knowing what he does, ending up with broken hardware or software/driver conflicts etc. XP runs smoothly on even smaller machines, same with Win2000. The MAJOR important thing with these (As any OS) is to have enough memory. We have p2-233mhz machines running XP just fine, ok their not formula-one-cars ment to race with latest games but they can surf the net, do wordprocessing etc. Saying XP has less than 50% driver support is sorta taken from out of the blue ? XP is delivered with a Win2000 driver database which is heavily extended to include even lots of the ultra new hardware. It's not perfect, but then again WHICH OS is ? -none yet- Comparing XP driver database to Win9X series and you find the win9x series belong to the stoneage. Only and serious drawback for XP compared to say Win2k is the licensing part, i.e. contact MS to get it verified and all that crap. Except for that XP is far beyond any othet MS OS technically, even with (or without) the flashy GUI (which is easily and best toned down to classic gui).
  7. Assume I setup 5 enemy squads , each with way point to move to where they go into safemode. Now even if these waypoints are close to eachother (say 30-50meter) my problem is that they just won't go hostile on me most of the time if I start to shot at one of the squads. Ok the particular squad I do fire at start to fire back, but the other squads mostly just stand there and happily accept that his comradre in war falls dead to the ground 1 meter from him. Now this ain't realistic so I was wondering if there's an easy way to put all enemies on the map into hostile mode soon as first bullet hits one of them, or atleast all enemy soldiers within a reasonable range should get into hostile mode ? In short: 1) How can I detect -any- falling enemies 2) How can I -quickly- set all enemies into hostile mode? (ok search & destroy etc).
  8. Does anyone (BIS?) know how to set a certain units side, i.e. how to define them as neutral/west/east/guerilla? Or how to cloak a west group as russians until a given point/area make them west side, that is walk with russian clothes etc without being taken for west-side Birkoff
  9. Birkoff

how to set a units side ?

Well I was more thinking of players changing side etc during the game, or be neutral to everyone etc(without being civilian). That vehicle thing is maybe a good idea but aint safe :-)

OFP Runs well with Windows ME?

Some observations from me regarding XP vs W2K vs W9X etc. (from various experience by selling & setting up hardware etc) W9X series including ME is ok for those not wanting multitasking, easy setup, not so memory hungry, pretty fast, but no good for multitasking. ME should be avoided if possible due to memory leak errors. Win2K, good stable multitasking system, all well known hardware works fine, not much problems with it, bit technical to get stuff like network etc working (but same with w9x series). Don't need to reboot as often as in W9x series but still too often Native driver support is good but not perfect. Most newer games (past 2 years atleast) works fine, old dos games is so-so. (quake1 works, doom2 works etc.) Win XP, brand new and flashy as few, alot better native driver support and MUCH better auto configure of hardware than Win2k(or w9x,me). Setup network is usually a walk in the park, autodetect of almost everything and rarely errors with auto-setup(network). Serious heavyload HDD access for IDE drives is far better than Win2k (my guess is 2-4 times better without lagging). All the flashy stuff can be turned off & you can end up with a total win2000 look & feel but with better "power" than W2K. Using W2K makes XP GUI alot faster even on high end systems(gf3 powered etc). Compability with software equals or better than Win2000. A few programs made for W2K platform however -may- cause damage to the registry, others just won't start. Nonworking software (32bit) is -rare- Since XP is brand new it's not odd that it has some flaws as every Microsoft OS has this far, all new releases from MS in the past had glitches when released (like now with XP security glitch:). Usually all these stuff is fixed ASAP. With a decent computer today and choice of any MS OS it would be best to choose XP or as 2nd choice Win2K if you want to use the PC for multitasking stuff (like surfing while burning cd's while watching divx etc). Choice of XP versus Win2000 is mostly a matter of taste and preferance, XP is bit more automatic, bit more pnp, bit better overal but not a quantumleap forward from Win2k. Birkoff

OFP Runs well with Windows ME?

    >I'm sure that Microsoft didn't say that. Â MS 98SE are >not better than Win Me,. I'm so happy that i upgrade >to Win ME. There's no truth in your sentences above >and win XP has already ruled over the world. Well actually they did here in Norway not long ago, translated : "Windows ME should never have been released and was only released due to pressure from hardware manufactors" Also : "Microsoft Corp.'s tech support team has again confirmed the memory leak within the Windows ME operating system, this time directly to ExtremeTech." A link to MS tech info; <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q278368 Also" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q278368 Also</a> read; <a href="http://www.extremetech.com/article/0,3396,s%253D201%2526a%253D8748,00.asp http://www.extremetech.com/article/0,3396,s%253D201%2526a%253D9752,00.asp " target="_blank">http://www.extremetech.com/article.... http</a>

OFP Runs well with Windows ME?

I'm a pc technician / pc-sales, having few computers running different versions of Windows. A p3-500mhz/128mb memory laptop works fine with XP for normal office use (word, excell etc) however more memory would be nice. Running OFP on a "mini" pc like that wouldn't be such a good choice. Running OFP on another PC I have with 1gb DDR memory, 1600mhz AMD cpu and GF3 rocks wildly, never any lag even at highest resolutions. Still the PC is totally overkill for that task, but wether I use XP/Win2000/W98 doesn't matter all that much in this scenario. Given the choice of ONLY Win ME or XP , and say you have atleast 256mb of memory and a 650mhz or faster cpu I would have chosen Win XP. Basicly because microsoft officially stated themselves that Win ME was a major bummer and never should have been released, it has severel serious memory leaks that some people get to feel very often while other people seldom see those errors. Win XP is a new system yes, but with a pretty updated PC today running wildy known hardwareparts like soundblaster live series, nvidia chipset on the graphic card etc and via or intel chipset on the mainboard, XP would usully find most of that itself without problems (still a upgrade of those drivers is a good idea). However with external hardware like scanners, printers, webcams etc things might be bit different, buildt in driver support is better than in win2000 but not perfect. So check your hardware, visit MS webpage to check what hardware XP support (or ask your dealer if your hardware will be fine with XP) .. Then make your choice. XP is after all (with all flaws) technically a better OS than Win 9x/ME series when handling memory, multitasking, speed etc -given the fact- you have enough hardware to support it.
  13. As the topic said, how do I add a sound to a mission and make that sound follow (and repeat itself) a vehicle like a car/tank or even person ?

So when I see a documentation like Avon Lady's excellent faq both informative and well written I read on, my ofp friends likes it and reads it. But if the language used is weak full of typing errors or short terms like a 14 year prefer to use when sending sms etc its more likely that the doc never is read, nor help is given. Ok I'm picky but if you wanna do it, do it correct, do it properly and make it 1st class.

Take a minute and think about it, do you talk to your wife / teacher / mother / father / boss in that way ? Take a good look at Avon Lady's faq and the language used there, how often do you see l33t "d u do this" type of sentences there ? Take your "Y R U LOT SO LAZY? " topic, brilliant example again. A good idea would be to relax, cool down get back to plain english and ask nicely who wanna help and what areas people can help with. Y R U LOT SO LAZY?

Well lazy I'm not but I've choosen not to help out due to several causes: 1) I'm working on a beginners guide to the editor aswell as mini scripting but in norwegian language 2) to make it efficient working on such projects a "database" or work-list need to be used, to keep control of the info and who does what and when etc. 3) no offence but I find the idea good but the way it started bit "we don't think far ahead, its a cool idea lets get started" .. that might work but you dont get the good people that way :-) and 4) again no offence but I'll find persons using 14 year old language full of u did r u so l33t etc kinda inmature to take on such a project so that alone is a good reason to stay on the sideline :-) (no offence to anyone but I'm -older- than average person in here
  17. I hate re-inventing the wheel so if anyone have a capture-the-flag (mp) mission already done of this setup: 3 sides, russian + west attacks guerrilla hold city, guerrila protect flag, human players can choose east/west side. Dead players reincarnate at east/west spawn. If anyone has such templates or can give me a step by step setup on how to create such mp-ctf it would make my christmas even better :-) Cheers, Birkoff
  18. Bug or not I find the way of controling helicopters in OFP bit odd, increasing the helicopter altitude is much faster than decrease altitude. Their both bit too slow but getting the heli down in altitude can at times be a real slow-we-re-soon-killed-experience. Ok I assume updraft etc has something to say here (wind moving up) but from real life experiences with "huey's" army helis move way faster down (and up) than in OFP Could this please be fixed BIS? Say +20<->30% faster upspeed and same speed down as up? Btw: I've tested both with keyboard(z down) and joystick, not much of a difference. Birkoff

1.4 patch as buggy as 1.3

Well I had a plain v1.30 installed, v1.40 patch said 1.30 verified ok and installed without a problem. Suggestion, remove whole OFP from the drive. Install a fresh 1.0 again, make a backup of that 1.0 to a safe place (like I burn it to a cd to be able to restore it in few seconds when I need to upgrade again) Then upgrade to 1.20/1.30 and install 1.40

    SLOOOW vehicles in OFP

I've been onto this problem earlier without any help :-) In OFP all vehicles drops speed way to fast when driving uphill, a powerfull tank don't drop to below walkspeed in small hills. I've been sitting in a leo(used by norwegian forces) and it was driving alot faster uphill than OFP allows me todo with the much more powerfull abraham. A good idea would to increase fullspeed on armored vehicles a bit, then make sure they didnt drop as fast in speed uphill. It's kinda funny when you outrun a tank in uphill but its not realistic and spoils the game entirely, therefore we seldom use tanks in my missions :-) (or use them only on flat ground Birkoff

    Helis and decrease of altitude

Like I already said, I've tested with both keyboard & joystick. My point is that a real life helicopter do decrease (or increase) altitude alot faster than in OFP, the way OFP lets helis decrease altitude is faaar too slow. Have inc/dec of altitude at same speed, make it 20-30% faster than increase of altitude with keys is today. With faster up/down we have much more control of our flying and can bring low level altitude combat to a new level .-) Especially for helis like AH64 etc which can do quick runs along the ground then raise altitude to 150m in snap of a second while launcing hellfires.
  22. Just a funny situation, after patching to 1.40 we've come across a small "problem here" with the most negative soldier in the world. In a small mission, with 3 ai + me as teamleader I order them arround todo whatever stuff. They DO the stuff their ordered todo mostly, however #2 on the team ALWAYS have to say NEGATIVE after performing the order. Like move to x,y , he walks there, then NEGATIVE.. Order him to get into a chopper, he does that, NEGATIVE. Order him to drive a car from a to b, he does that and says NEGATIVE. Weird thing it just happens with that ai player (#2) alone, never any others. Tested it with a blank mini mission for fun, same thing happens always. And it didn't happen before I patched to 1.40 (and I have patched it just with official patches in correct order and have no fancy addons either). Not a major problem but I hate having such a negative dork on the team and killing him dont' solve the problem, so far I just ordered him into enemy territory alone to get ride of the dork. Any ideas?
  23. Regarding NTFS; Changed hardware specs bit here but still run on a Win2000/XP NTFS platform (Now using Msi K7T Pro2-RU/1gb DDR/GF3/360gb hd's in raid) NTFS is usually not a problem for most modern software, very rarely you find some way old stuff that wont work. With NTFS you get better file security and one benefit that most ppl would appreciate, if your pc accidently shuts down(loss of power, manages to find the reset button etc and your moving a file. Only that file is affected by the "crash".. With FAT16/32 your most probably looking at a broken FAT and lost clusters etc. In short NTFS is far more secure than FAT32 regarding file crashes etc and not noticable slower(actually in my system not even noticable benchmarked slower, its 10-15% faster Btw, been using ntfs for past 3 years or so with games etc, NONE problems. Eternal trigger

JR ADAMS; I'm just using a simple camcreate to put in a shell/heat of different size to fake artillery. like : boom = "heat105" camcreate [x,y,z] Not ready with the script yet gonna extend it so I can have 2 persons working togheter as 1) spotter and 2) fire & forget so far all it does it let me using the radio menu to call in fire support at 50/75/100/150/200/250meter range from where I view(and forward) then drop * "bombs" in a random pattern upto 30m away from center of where I radioed in artillery. But since there's no such thing as realistic artillery in OFP it's a faked one using that camcreate thing.
  25. How do I make a trigger that is always-on and executes a script all the time with or without ppl within the trigger radius. What am onto is making a mortar script that continues to bomb a village with random second delay between each shell is fired. I've got the "mortar to fire" and wait random seconds before it quits the script, but how do I get it to continue loop (surely a goto within the same script is a baaad idea ?)
