    Fraghaus server

FragHaus is better than ever We chose DPlay because of VON. If BIS would enable VON on Sockets we would switch to it. However, I can tell you that FragHaus DPlay is probably faster and more stable than most on Sockets... we have more bandwidth and awesome servers to pump it out. (no offense to other servers intended).

Any word on a Server Version??

    Russian strike aircraft....

Non-sense... that's merely a matter of opinion. We have several missions with F14's and other Jets. They work great! The missions are a lot of fun.

    Russian strike aircraft....

There already is a MiG-29... it runs and looks pretty good. However there seems to be issues with the Textures. When you place several of them in a mission they really lag it. Any ideas as to what this might be? I would love to fix this issue with them. Here is a link to the MiG: http://www.opflashpoint.org/addons.php?v=226

    Russian strike aircraft....

Actually yes we do... BTW, The is a MiG-29 out (Textures are buggy on it). I would like to see a MiG-31 There's F14, F15 (being made) and an F16. We need more Soviet MiGs!

    Direct play

Hmmm.... FragHaus has the same issue with 1.88/1.85 DPlay. We have searched all forums and see NO answer. If you could post a link to the answer placebo... it would be appreciated. CONNECTION FAILED....

    1.87 patch for linux?

Could we please get an updated patch for Linux as well? With sugar on top? So far so good with Linux! Keep it up BIS... you're satisfying your fans now <does a little dance>

Traffic on big dedicated servers...how high?

I would agree with what Skunk Monkey has stated. Looks very close to statements I have seen by BIS in the past. MaxMsgSend and MinBandwidth seem to be the ONLY settings that can be tweaked. Others from our experience only seem to have negative effects. Also... need to remember that these settings ONLY work with DirectPlay. There are some other settings (very complex) for Sockets. MaxMsgSend = 256; is the BEST setting unless you are running on a P2 300 (in which case I suggest you pick up the latest copy of Space Invaders as it would be more enjoyable with your system) MinBandwidth = 1024000; is what I suggest. You should not be running a server unless you have 1M+ connection available at all times. (ie a T1 at minimum) In additon... make sure you set your framerate in the Flashpoint.cfg file to frameRate=50.000000;. By default it often will set it to 15 for some reason...

Traffic on big dedicated servers...how high?

The variations on the numbers are too large for valuable feedback in any type of comparision. Too many things effect it. We have large missions with few vehicles and the FPS can be good (15+). Have a smaller missions with a lot of vehicles and you can have bad FPS (under 5). In order to have a good comparision via #monitor you would need to have the same exact Missions and the same exact players connect. Honestly... if you want tons of players... then make a mission that is real small in scripts with no vehicles. Place it on Intro. I know you can get 50+ in that scenerio... but what fun is it? FYI: Music added to files does little to effect the games FPS. It merely means a larger file download before the mission starts. The script that starts the music playing actually causes more lag than the music itself (which is very little)

    Linux server install problem

SGT ROCK... we will be converting your server to Linux as soon as we have determined if it is completely stable. So far so good... our current Linux test server seems to be running good. Also we will have complete controls available with Linux. It will finally allow our hosts to have complete control. Restart, upload, addons, missions and more... From your error it looks like you don't have all needed files uploaded to the server. You have to zip your whole OFP® directory and then unzip it on your Linux Server. Also... use small case on the directories (ie /usr/games/ofp)

    Linux server + userinfo.cfg

All files must be placed and then the the server-shar file needs run to encode it for linux. We noticed this with custom missions. They won't load unless you re-run that file. I been meaning to post about that... now I have BIS... anyway to make a simple converstion file that can be run to JUST convert files instead of doing a re-install using the server-shar file?

Traffic on big dedicated servers...how high?

FragHaus is running Multi/OC3 (Largest connection for OFP). I can tell you it is NOT the bandwidth that limits at this size. It is the CPU and other capabilities of a server. However, even with the largest server you will be limited... atleast in Windoze... to about 24-32 players.

    1.85 is out... linux soon?

FragHaus is currently running a Linux Stress test on 64.89.15.26:2302. If anyone wishes to join to test out Linux performance feel free.

    1.85 is out... linux soon?

Almost ALL games require the original game to be uploaded to Linux... or atleast the major data files (ie pak files for quake). This is NOT something to complain about... IMO. I am glad Linux Version has finally been released. (now all we need is sockets VON)

    Voice with sockets

The mere length of this thread and any other concerning VON should demostrate the importance of it in OFP®. BIS... I implore you to not disregard this simple fact. As far as the why's, what's and how's. There are many answers and many solutions that have been discussed. I propose that BIS listen to the majority of their dedicated players. VON is important to the larger groups that play on large servers. Without it you have confusion which leads to frustrations which in turn leads to unsatisfactory gameplay. VON IS possible with Sockets. However, BIS would need to be willing to spend the money (time=money) to implement it. Which thus far it seems they have choosen not to. TO Suma: You asked where it was promised that things would be done. Linux was promised in these forums... many have seen it. Voice in Sockets was discussed directly with me via email from you. I asked "Will you be adding Voice into Sockets?" Suma said "There is still quite a long way before us before Voice will be implemented". This tells me that BIS did have plans to implement VON in Sockets. Though not a direct promise... it was close... and I think it has been a 'long way'... the email is from 5/28/2002. It boils down to the fact that we need a true dedicated server solution (Linux... which can ONLY use Sockets). And the community wants VON (which currently can only be used in Windoze DP). Which leaves us with a half-way solution. We want VON... but we do not wish to continue to run Windoze servers due to their inferior handling of processes. Again please... consider this...

    Voice with sockets

Funny that other supposedly inferior games such as Half-Life support VON... without using DirectPlay. Seems someone isn't using the proper Netcode... or they don't want to pay a third party to develop it for them. Sorry but I have lost patience. Linux Server should have been released a year ago... and yet they make everyone buy another version in order to get something they promised with the original OFP. Not to mention it was also promised that VON would continue to be supported.

    Ofp linux here

Have known you could use Wine and such for Linux... but you might as well use Windoze if you use WINE.
  23. FragHaus has waited over year for BIS to release their LINUX Server port of OFP. IT WAS PROMISED and ANNOUNCED. I guess BIS is too busy with Resistance and other non-OFP related projects now and the Linux version isn't going to happen. Which means we will be shutting down 8 major servers. I also understand other game hosters are shutting down their OFP servers. BIS... where is this? Email me or we will have to shutdown our clan hosted servers (that we did based on the 'coming' linux port).

Where in the **** is the linux server port?

Dedicated Servers bring in the big crowds... they make up communities. Do you think games such as CS, MOHAA, Wolfenstein, Quake or any other BIG selling game would be what they are if you had only private servers for real small groups? Not that OFP is comparable to any of these in gameplay... but it still demonstrates where success lays. Dedicated Servers are the heart of any successful MP game. And ALL of those have Linux versions... (BTW)
