I think with Poland being on the nothern part of of the European continent, everyone had already realised that. (I hope no one had to reference that with a map)

    Heavy Earthquake in Asia

I'm heading to Hong Kong on Sunday. I know the area wasn't affected, but I wonder what the mood will be like in that part of the world?

Meh, got busted did you? Unlucky, its one of those things we never really talked about it. And for the record, OASC at Cranwell was fucking awful. I hated those crap dressing gowns. Luckily for us the girls were sluts (Why do you think the boss selected them?) and didn't even attempt to hide what modesty they had left! Huzzah!

Hi mate, I used to be UAS a long time ago as well, back when the Grob just replaced the Bulldog. I was UWAS, down in St Athan. We used to fly on the coast as well, so we got the lecture everyweek. Did you know all the info on human exposure came from the research from Belsen? Nasty! About the resevoir, I have some absolutely mental stories about what we used to get up to, I'm suprised we didn't die/get arrested/get thrown out. Happy days. Manchester... Did you receive a Grob from us years back. Tail was Victor Oscar. I heard one of your students put it into a field during a PFL. (We got rid of it, because the engine kept stalling during taxi and low RPM! Never got mentioned in the accident report..... ) Ask Shash why he was in the UAS, its quite funny  Oi shurrup Ronin  Hmmm I remember that PFL was a few years back, even a few years before my time and that was 2 years ago, so I can't tell you... Yeah the reservoir lol... 10000 litres of near stagnant water does wonders to the hair, and everywhere else for that matter  Lol you remember your initiation?? Ah that was crazy stuff! One of the things they got us noobs to do was take a shot of lime juice, keep it in our mouth without swallowing it, rollie pollieing across the mess, then rollie pollieing back to the table, and adding a shot of Bailey's to that shot of lime, then repeating the whole process. I'll leave it up to you to decide how lime and Bailey's mix   Lucky you being down at St Athan, at least you had more than the Merseyside Police Air Unit using your base. Would have been pretty mad cool holding short for a Hawk. The most exciting visitor we had was a Navy Lynx, once   Come on, tell tell..... As for aircraft, yes it could be quite fun. Not only were the Hawks down there, but the Jags and GR4's used to come in for maintenance. I remember my first solo away from the field, and seeing a Tornado coming right at me at a high rate of knots. The tower kept shouting at me to stay higher, as it would pass far from me, but I kept ignoring them and nearly ended up NoE. Then the bastard went past, and the jet wash nearly knocked me from the sky. (Fun as hell when you have 500ft of altitude) For my solo intiation, I got stripped naked, put in stocks, hosed, released, gaffer taped up, and then had 10 litres of a vile concoction poured all over me. (Cat food, rations, old milk etc that had been festering for a week in a giant mixing bin) I was then left in that position for 30 minutes. Outside. In the cold. In public. Funniest was when someone got abducted on his 21st birthday, and woke up naked tied to the Cardiff Airport approach lights with his 1250 (ID card) taped to his forehead. It was basically a giant drinking club, funded by the Government, with very loose oversight, access to aircraft and small arms, subsidised beer and food, officer rank, and immunity from traffic police

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

Bollocks. I don't know anyone who calls Rugby 'football' over here. We call it Rugby. Additionally, they don't call football soccer, its football! That applies to Union and League, with Union being the more popular here. (Wales) (Leagues crap anyway)

Chances are not good. When I used to fly, they said if I took a dip in the English channel at this time of year, my kit would keep me alive for approx 30 minutes. Thats with thermals, flightsuit, lifejacket, and cold weather jacket. Our Sqn thinking used to be better to try and make for land and loose your bailing out height (No ejector seats!), than to jump out over the water.

    Whats the military term for...

During the Cold War, the Us started renaming equipment from scratch again. This covered mostly vehicles, and aircraft. The first bomber after this change became the B1, then the B2. Fighters also started from another low number. (They were up in the hundreds) The Abrams became the M1, and the Bradley the M2. This does not apply to all equipment howver, and mainly came into force for larger pieces of kit. (Ie Tanks and planes)

    Tank question

Remember, getting perfect replicas of those tanks can be hard. Sometimes they are scaled down, purely for cost reasons as they are based on another chassis. Why did they build so many tanks? Becuase they are cool! Can't beat a King Tiger in a tank fight!

    The Iraq thread 4

Frankly, that is bullshit. The year 1917 brought mostly only disasters to France and Britain, their ally Russia had collapsed, Italy was doing badly, western front was blogged in bloody massacres and Germany was almost strangling Britain with submarine warfare and there had been series of serious mutinies within the French Army. Germans knew that with US entering the war they had to make last ditch effort to win the war and launched massive attack in spring 1918 but after initial success the allies managed to hold out. Militarily, US involvevement was not decisive but economic and logistic support was massive and did help to win the war. From a strategic viewpoint it was winding down, the great slugathon was reaching a point where it was unsustainable, and the Allies saw that the Germans were about to crack. The battle of Jutland had taken place so a naval threat was no longer a question. The big push from the Germans was a massive gamble, if you look at the logistics, it wouldn't have had much of a chance of consolidating. The Push it would seem was an attempt to obtain political leverage to use for an armistice. Although the US joined in 1917, it took many months before any forces had formed up and put into action. The massive German attack was effectively stopped by French and Commonwealth troops, not US.

Actually, it was France who was putting massive pressure on Germany. The other powers attemptted to get them to back down, but the French were having none of it. They wanted all the damages paid off, plus interest, and invaded the Sarr when the Germany couldn't keep up the repayments. Hence Hitlers jubliation when he got the French to surrender in the same train car that they had made a defeated Germany sign terms. As for the US in WW1, they joined the conflict in 1917 when the the war was winding down. The military contributions were negligable, and only provided for political reasons.

Need help on getting a new vid card

Regarding the latest Gen of cards, both ATi and nVidia are pretty good. As for the 9800/5900 series, the nVidia card were utter crap. In the end, they got the frame rates up by dropping IQ in the drivers. (It was due to a massive screwup with the Direct X architecture in the nVida cards) If you want power at a low price, go with the 9800Pro. I used to buy nVidia all the time, and the 9800Pro was the first ATi cardI ever bought, and its superb.

So why are you fighting in the first place if you are not giving a shit about the welfare of the local populace? Yet another fine example of compassionate conservatism. I wish this was worth responding too. Oh wait............. If you cannot be arsed to do anything else but to troll and flame instead of even semi-rational discussion I suggest that you crawl under that rock you came from. Will you help me lift it up? Did I say I di not care about the civilians? No, I never said that. Yes, I do care more about our soldiers, but I also care about the civilians. I am talking about the terrorist, the people we are fighting. Everyone of them is a terrorist. I hate to say it, but the only way to beat them is to kill them. If your idea of "shoot the enemy" involves executing wounded unarmed people, have it your way. With this enemy, you can never trust. So with this enemy that is my idea of shooting the enemy. See, they are bringing freedom, liberty, democracy to these people..... At any cost it would appear. Executing unarmed people (Terrorist/Insurgant or not), kind of undermines the whole 'We are the good guys' principle. Practise what you preach.

Do the US have a cluster munition for their 155mm's? The British do, and it can be quite focussed when it goes off. A MRLS on the other hand would decimate a decent sized area. Regardless, the use of any of the above is beyond reason.
