I'd go as far as saying that they would alienate their whole userbase - which isn't very large to begin with - at a stroke. Don't they also have a motion capture facility? Surely they'd generate revenue from that.

How does one lock onto soft targets (personel) when flying the helicopter?
An-225 replied to p75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I realise that the word 'soft target' is being used incorrectly here, but he still stipulated 'personnel' afterwards, so he is talking about infantry specifically. I'd assume that 'soft target' covers everything short of an MBT. That isn't exactly locking on though - missiles will not track the target box, and nor will the cannon auto-align itself with it (unless you have an AI gunner). ;) -

The OP was talking about soldiers, hence the word personnel in his opening post. ;) P75, I am not the one at fault here. First of all, you neglected to state that a) you are trying to use the cannon and b) you are the pilot, not the gunner. When commanding a gunner, you simply select them and press 2 to tell them to target a soldier. It is that easy. :) -

@USSRsniper Well in that case, you anchor the gun to a specific point. You don't "lock onto" a person, as an AGM-114 locks onto a laser or an AIM-120 onto a radar signature. The OP was talking about locking onto a person - now, how am I to interpret that? And besides, he stated that he can lock onto vehicles, furthering my impression that he wanted to "lock onto" a person. @p75 Of course TAB won't work for locking onto a person - the gun doesn't ride a laser beam, it doesn't lock onto a heat source. What do you expect it to do? Allow me to delve into it in more detail...the KA-50 can, in real life, anchor the optics to a specific point...such as in the center of a cluster of infantry. It cannot however, track moving infantry. The same can probably be said for the AH-64 and the AH-1, although I'm not too sure since I have no idea how to acquire the manual for the Apache or Cobra. Of course, you cannot anchor the gun (or UAV camera) to a specific point in ArmA. It isn't exactly hard to shoot though, if you have a good pilot, and I don't see why you have the need to lock the gun onto a cluster of infantry? If your pilot is at all good, he will minimise the amount of erratic movements, and you will usually have a clear shot at infantry. -
At the post above me. Have you ever considered that most people do not have the required knowledge to make such changes to the game? As for the rest of the thread, I'm astounded at some of the idiotic replies in here. The topic creator presented his case in a well thought out and polite manner, yet he is ridiculed for it. While I don't think it is the number one priority for this game right now, I would not object to the inclusion of an obscenity filter.

You don't lock on with the gun. You can't in game, and you can't in real life. You use the optics in game...NUM0 or RMB...and aim at a target. -

You can't. That's not what Vikhrs or Hellfires are for anyway - use the Hydras or S-8 (?) pods. I'm not sure the military would be happy with you wasting such a valuable missile on a group of infantry when you can easily use the cannon or rocket pods. -
Well, in all fairness, BIS actually communicate with the community on a far more regular basis than CM. I wouldn't be surprised if they listened more too. The ArmA 2 community were arguably more relaxed and asking for the game to be judged on release because they had proof that the game was more than vapourware. For DR it is a different story. There is no indication or guarantee that the community's suggestions will be taken on board. There was no guarantee either, for ArmA 2, but it seemed far more likely to happen considering the relations the devs have with the community. Don't tout the 'Seahawk' change or the 'camouflage' change here. For all anyone knows, CM exploited the community to make it appear as if they had listened to them.

I suppose it wouldn't be much of an expansion pack in terms of content, would it? Any proposals for new units in Afghanistan? Why bother, the default game already has AKMs and PKMs, as well as a pickup truck...all you need is the map. Not exactly an inspiring expansion pack. I'd prefer to stick to Europe, with the diversity it can bring. EU Forces would be a worthwhile expansion, considering that you'd most likely receive the Eurofighter, Challenger/Leopard and the SA80/FAMAS/G3, to name a few items.

It is far better than the one in ArmA, that is for sure. Only a few problems remain (and some of these are aircraft specific, there is only one broad one). The yaw authority is still far too low across the board, especially at the speeds you fly at in ArmA 2 (the 500km/h range). 500km/h is just above the speed at which you can deploy landing gear and flaps in a fighter jet, yet in ArmA 2, at 500km/h the rudder responds as if you were flying at a supersonic speed. It is severely dampened, and in the small map size of ArmA 2, it makes it very hard to maneuver effectively. Helicopters have been improved greatly from ArmA 1 in all aspects of flight, but they still require a little more yaw authority across a lower speed range (50-130km/h). Apart from that, most aircraft seem fine. I can only suggest a few other small things that would improve a few specific airplanes. ~ V-22 yaw authority while hovering needs to be increased - at the current rate of yaw, it is very difficult to maneuver it in a manner that combat situations would require. See this video to get an idea of what the yaw rate of the Osprey should look like... ~ Updated VTOL needs to be implemented for the AV-8B Harrier - it may not be able to do a vertical take off at full load, but after releasing its load and flying back to base, it sure can do a vertical landing. This is very difficult in ArmA 2, because giving the Harrier more thrust while in auto-hover seems to point the thrust nozzles back, giving it more forward speed rather than making it ascend. ~ C-130 turning circle needs to be fixed. This isn't related to the flight model really, but it can't even turn onto a taxiway. Enough said. ~ Almost forgot about this one - the 'auto-rudder' that plagues the F-35 (it causes the plane to yaw left and right in smooth and level flight) needs to be removed.

I was testing out the Animal module today, and I came across this group of animals grazing happily in an open field. I found this at both ends of the runway on Utes, but I hardly found animals located anywhere else. Only a group of chickens outside a farm, but I still think it is a little odd that a concrete runway is populated more than the surrounding farmlands.

Arma 2 Weapon Ranging and Correction Tables
An-225 replied to Daniel_Malloy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Brilliant guide! Any chance we can get a breakdown of the M107 scope, as well as the PSO on the VSS and the KSVK? Like Fincuan, I've only ever seen a PSO-1 with a center chevron, with no chevrons above it. -
A-10: Cuba! was a pretty good game. Though somewhat lacking in systems depth (by todays standards at least - when compared to Falcon 4 or the upcoming DCS: A-10), for its time it was amazing. Brilliant graphics (far better looking than any pixelated 'photorealistic' game), flight dynamics that held significant fidelity, a proper damage model and a fair amount of systems depth for its time. This was the first flight simulator I had ever played. Janes USAF was also a brilliant simulation. Multiple airplanes, somewhat in-depth simulation of standard USAF avionics and great graphics for its release in 1999. It had enough scope at the time to keep me interested in actually paying attention to the tutorials.

505 Games Boxed Edition - Limited Activations?
An-225 replied to An-225's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Righto, thanks for the clarification. ;) -
My computer is refusing to boot up anymore (it can boot up by removing the CPU fan, but this is not 100% foolproof), and I'm uninstalling all of my programs that have limited activations. Does the DVD version of ArmA 2 from 505 Games have a limited amount of activations? If I have to format this HDD with ArmA 2 still on it, will FADE be activated when I next install it? Help is appreciated.

OK so how do I make this artillery aiming window work?
An-225 replied to cadmium77's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Eh, I'm not the best person to ask on this. All I can advise, is that the OP set it up correctly, adding the proper units involved and the right ammunition for the arty. As I discovered while testing it on Utes, there is a minimum range for the arty, and only when you have the barrel elevated past that range, will you get the GUI to work properly. I myself, am clueless on how to actually use those fall lines. I'll experiment on Chernarus, and see if I can find out. -

And neither is "map click." Seriously, the way it works currently, it does require a fair amount of user input to get the elevation correct. -

I also have the same problem, with a Pentium 4 (3.2GHz), 2GB of RAM and an 8800GT. Nothing has been overclocked. However, it only occurs in the full game...not the demo. -
You fuckwit, people DIE from this sort of thing. Its not a pretty sight to watch...

What would you like to see in this game?
An-225 replied to Eagle911's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Walking inside moving vehicles (C-130, V-22). Silenced DMR. Natural AI (no more super hearing, no more super sensing of every vehicle, whether static or otherwise, on the battlefield). A little more yaw authority in helicopters at higher speed (BIS have improved on the flight model since ArmA, however). L-39 for CDF, ChDKZ and possibly Russia (I can't find any information about whether Russia has any L-39s remaining). -
The mission editor does not allow a ranking system, by default, as the unit ranks are set in it. After a long period of time, everyone would be the same rank, which isn't exactly realistic. You already have something to play for - for the success of your team and the completion of your objective. That is reason enough to have a ranking system. The game should never be about who gets the most points - it should always be about surviving the mission and accomplishing the objective. Ranks and awards would destroy this.

Hmm, rather than spawning at the airbase with all of the weapons and equipment ready...I'd like spawn at the other side of the map armed with nothing but a pistol and perhaps a Bizon or AK-74U, and be forced to make my way to the airfield. That would be survival at its finest.

...earlier in the thread, someone stated that "Bohemia made if after their own backyard." You refuted this saying that the Czech Republic is land locked... I corrected you in saying that they had the intention to model it off a portion of their own country. ;)

It is a fictional country based on the Czech Republic.

No...those icons show you the current services your HQ can provide for you in Warfare, I believe.
