Im sure the flight model will be updated in ARMA3 but i dont believe we get the same ones as in TOH simply because (as stated) TOH will lose a very strong (the biggest?) sales point if we do.
Even find it a but iffy to ask such a question tbh. Asking BIS to add strong elements from their other titles into ARMA... I hope for an updated flight model with some new tech like we usually get in each new ARMA title, and that will personally make me happy.

Hai guys. Ive been testing this beast out and trying to learn how to become accurate with it. However atm i seem to have some problems. In Zargabad being at the very bottom of the map im trying to fire HE at the top of the map. I enter the coords plus the height given on the map, but im always short entering the height from the map.
Does the height of the ground have to be calculated somehow or should it be enough with the height data on the map? Ive read the manual and from what i can see the height from the map should be good. Im sure im doing something stupid. Just wish i knew what. :)
Cheers.

Press Alt+E and show us a screenshot. The 3D editor looks like a 2D editor until you chose to work in 3D.
Screenshot >100kb please.
Thanks.
PS. Also you know its not a fully working editor right? You can play around but thats it.

There's also the problem that having a sim-like flight model for helicopters and simplified controls for all other vehicles will horribly imbalance the game (if it can even achieve balance in the first place). ArmA 3 has a broader scope and thus less depth, which was exactly the point of TakOH being a seperate game (less breadth & more depth).Agreeing with this.
I have DCS: Black Shark so its not that i cant or doesnt like realistic flight model. Its just that it would be weird with one deeply simulated part and not in the other areas.
Plus if ARMA had the depth of TOH then why whould people buy TOH? Sure other islands and missions, but as we all know we can make islands and missions.
Dont think that will happen, but you never know with BIS. :)

Dont know if i set it up right, but first impressions:
Very funny to fly! Felt pretty good so far.
Performance was down the drain though even with lowest view and object draw distance. Im guessing its the pic-in-pic? Looked like it was full quality in the mirror so that might explain it.
Anyway, a WIP test and the heli felt very fun to fly. Will test more tomorrow. Thanks BIS for the opportunity to play with your toys. :)

This is helluva fun! Takes a bit of practise but in the end when it all works its pure greatness. :)
I was wondering something and pardon me for not have read the whole thread, but would it be possible to add the BIS function of ordering AI artillery to fire at a map location? You know this one: put yourself as leader on the map, add an AI MLRS for example and group with you (the leader). Now you get an action to tell the MLRS to fire anywhere you click on the map. If the distance is too short the MLRS will tell you it cant fire etc. Maybe the Paladin can do this already just i did some mistake?
Anyway, great fun guys. Messing with the fuse time for WP atm. Bit hard to learn how to be accurate, but its super fun to do all the testing. :)

Thank you very much for releasing this extremely well done monster to us. :ok:
It's very fun to have to learn something new as some of the values is totally chinese to me so far. :D
Thanks!!

Also the biggest slice of gamers are at a younger age so they havent learned yet to appreciate the finer things in life. :D

Good to see you back R!
Good luck finishing it. And please do it fast will you. :D (kidding).

Cheers Hotze!
Looking forward to the update. :)

For me personally games like BF2 etc i think arent much fun anymore because i played the style so much. I grew up with a Commodore64 and many of the games were killing for score (although there were many many artistic fun weirdness too :D ), but i think its one of the reasons these other "simple" FPS's doesnt do it for me anymore. I did it so damn much already. The things that has changed in these games is the graphics and sounds basically, but its still the same simple game type (which is fun in small doses!).
For younger players i can see why they love it since i did myself back in the days. Its just that i crave more these days. Without depth and diversity i wouldnt play games at all, and the ARMA series brings that so it appeals to my degrading 39 year old brain - it engages it in more levels/layers. Basically BIS make grown ups become kids again. :D And that a positive thing.
So yes i also measure titles against BIS ones - which most of the time lead to let downs (all the times ehrmm). And like mrCash i can sometimes get a game for some fun, but they all get binned or forgotten on the HDD after a week to a month. I baught BFBC2 and i did in fact enjoy it - for about 2-3 weeks. :) The only thing that would keep me playing such a game would be if i actually cared about scores. Something i stopped caring about when i left school. No, im more after the experience than getting on a highscore board. I did that enough during my teens.
Cant wait for ARMA3.

Anyone noticed any problems with own AI squad staying in combat mode longer than needed? For example one eAI still alive but fled far away and your AI squad is still in combat mode.
Noticed this a few times but need more testing. Just checking if someone else noticed something similar. Maybe my AI is simply smarter than me now. :D

Like always, would be nice with stock-set values where civilians with weapons are lesser skilled and well trained soldiers have much better aim etc. But(!) it should be tweakable so you could do the opposite.
Some stock values where it feels realistic wouldnt hurt instead of all being of the same skill. Im thinking of course of the stock scenarios and for example for the newcomers when they dab in the editor. So not everything is at "nil" out of the box so to speak.
Agreed though NoRail.

Maybe 3-4 steps of settings quality for the mirrors/monitors. 1 with full quality and then downwards with lower LOD's and lower textures. A mix in between with high quality parts. Hopefully BIS manage to get this working well. :)

uuhh... let's see? Hmm....

Everon looks great! :)
Only 2 things bug me a little (Everon & Malden):
1. Everon birch(?) trees are very very bright in the lower LOD's (super light green). When you get closer they change to a much darker and more fitting color. This is a common "thing" with many objects in ARMA and i guess this is a big project to fix. Even if it's not up to you to fix it i just mention it. It's the only thing messing with perfection imo. And its not the whole world if un-fixable. Island is beautiful.
2. Malden's street lights are very dim at night. Just tested standing in a village at night (pitch black), and the street lights could need a boost in strength. Is this possible?
Massive thanks for your efforts Hotzenplotz! Really great feeling being on these islands. Somehow they bring back the proper sim feeling. :)

Thanks again for the massive support BIS. :) Will be nice to see the new tech.
PS. The stuttering i always had when zooming (as many like me) is now totally gone since 2 patches back. Forgot to mention that, and it's an important improvement. Thanks guys. Awesome work.

If the island is living then it will be hard to make a mission where the island should be "dead". Im not really a pro in the editor but i do know how to add lights and sounds.
If BIS have the time then maybe a set of modules to switch on "life" would be the ultimate solution. Like we have now in ARMA2 with civilian module and animal module. Also a module that switch on sounds for all parts of the island if thats wanted by the mission maker. Or even such a thing could be made by the community possibly.
I think i'd like it to be proper sandbox. That we should be able to turn on/off the ambience of the world so there are more diversity to the mission making.

^^ Cheers man. Will check it tonight. :)

Rose menu can be very fast as ive noticed while testing some games with them. Keypress to bring the rose up and then click click click done. Even being able to assign some buttons on keyb so a combo of keyb press + mouse makes it even faster.
Ive been in the resistance against the rose in the past, but im not so sure anymore that its pure garbage. I dont have any problems with current system either expet for those some times where i have to look down and away from the game as the button presses are far apart. Also like DM mentions above me, the context sensitive menus wich sometimes are brilliant - they also lead to problems at times where you make the wrong choice as it switches when an AI for example runs in front of you.
So i guess im in favor of either one. If its the old current system then an overhaul would be good to make it slightly easier (read faster).

Animations like medic healing seem to be twitchy - like repeating same few frames in the middle of the animation. Same goes for some other onesBolded by me. Noticed this one too. Very rapid twiching in the middle of the animations. Havent really seen any other animation-oddnes yet.
EDIT: Noticed the twitchy animation on the engineer class as well. I guess its the same animation as the medics.
EDIT2: Noticing this "rubber banding" like sometimes in MP when units/vehicles jump back and forth as they move. Just watch 2 ground vehicles following me and they are twitching back and forth as they drive. Saw this in previous beta as well.
EDIT3: Forgot to mention clearly that above (EDIT2) was in SP.

The vegetation and the way its all put out in villages etc is really superb work. Filled the drive with screens last night, thus stopped playing every minute to get a screenshot. :)
Great work Hotz!

Oh snap. Disregard then. :) Cheers RH.

in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING

Some machines might have lower specs than yours but they might also run the game on lower settings. Not sure of course.
About to test this now.
