  1. This process has been going on along time and betas are released more than any other developer out there. The RC exists for a reason... Because BIS has the finest community around and they help the development of this game engine that has been in development for over 10 years. You will know when the final official 1.6 is released. And I don't think 1.61 will be in the works as Arma 3 is kinda heavy on their plate. 1.6 is the "Final" patch. They are putting the finishing touches on it right now. Hense the whole RC1, RC2 and so on.

    Wanted (Arma Armed Assault)

Buying games from Sprocket games store is just like having a hard disc. Copy it to any media you want and you can install it from there with the key they email you. Game is always available to download again in case your chosen media fails or is stolen or lost. Also buying it from Sprocket Games is buying direct from the developer. Buy direct and save, especially when the digital copy is just like having a dvd copy... no 3rd party stuff to install or run on your computer ie "STEAM"
  3. CPU speed is the main Problem! 2.67ghz just won't cut it. Any BIS game running their engine needs 3ghz or more to get smooth play. It's a complex sim in many repects and needs allot of cpu speed. I have a dual core X6800 OC to 3.4ghz and I run the thing at high setting, no post pro... and if I try to run it at the stock cpu speed of 2.93ghz then I see a HUGE drop in performance. I also have the GTX295 dual PCB GPU. 3.4ghz or higher with at least four cores is the best you can do for yourself.

The trouble with getting people into Arma

You got it man... The arma2free Russian server is one of the only pvp's out there that doesn't have a 180 ping limit like the European PvPDoa server has. I have put up servers over the years and for some reason the vast amount of peeps want to play armchair general and play target practice with AI. I don't get it. I'm pretty sick of people decrying that Arma was NOT made for PvP play. I'd love for BIS to chime in and prove that point. The staggering number of coop servers running virtually the same style of game are hurting this game for those who want to fight against other real people with real brains in there noggins. I declare that PvP in Arma IS the freaking most fun and intense game available to play out there... Hands down, it's sheer freaking excitement. It's totally sad that that excitement is so hard to come by. Would be cool if some of those loaded coop servers just threw a few PvP maps in there to rotate. There is such an untapped plethora of existing missions and various types of PvP that rarely gets played and I think allot of the guys shooting against AI just have no idea they even exist.

The trouble with getting people into Arma

Coop has ruined the game as far as I can tell. I just don't play like I used too cause every time I start the game no matter the time or day and all it is is Coop games by the hundreds (all playing the same f-ing style game). I really hate playing against AI with militant nerds on my side. Just want to gun and have fun in the wonderful world of Arma but do it against real people. If Arma 3 has no PvP push behind it it will end up with the exect same amount of people playing the current Arma2 right now. Anyone new might pick it up and install it but as soon as they try to play online.... Game gets shelved. Anyone new will just go to B3 or something... At least on the other games you're fighting real people. It doesn't take hours and hours to learn how to play, and then when you do you go online to play and find only coop servers all running virtually the same mission with most of the servers running any number of various addons that keep you from joining the server anyway. The bottom line! Coop ruined this awesome game! I await this tread being closed due to any negative talk about Coop. Or just having my post removed by the Kings of the Forum, cause all they play is coop apparently and want it no other way.
  6. 95% of the Arma Community plays with themselves on coop missions... Haven't you seen the server list in game. PvP is virtually non existent. Sooo unless you and 20 of your close personal friends are willing to join your server, then good luck on having any of these coop wankers joining. Oh and by the way it is an awesome map.

    Sepia toned visuals?

try the A2FXAA V0.22b @ http://a2fxaa.blogspot.com/ there is a BIS thread here... http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=123121 It is a shader filter that performs Anti-Alliasing and also has some nifty color and texture filters in the pack as well. well worth the look.
  8. I found the over all image better with v.22b but the text fuzzyness was too much.
  9. Yeah! After reinstalling DirectX9 on my WinXP64 I got the FXAA to work! I tried the v.22b and it seems a bit too grainy (post sharpening I think), but, the over all benefit is quite awesome. I am so thankful to all who have put there efforts into this as it gives my old rig new life with a smooth image and no jaggys. Thanks! I love it!
  10. I think it's all about how OCD someone is about there image quality/detail. It's the little things like power lines, they look smooth and sweeping with AA on and a little jaggy with it off (there's a ton of little detail that AA smooths). At high resolutions any modern game looks pretty awesome, especially compared to console games that don't use it. Take a great looking game like Arma running at a high res like 1080 and add AA and you really get a somewhat photo-realistic looking game play (When you have the hardware too). It's personal preference for those with good hardware and sadly usually not an option for those with old hardware. @BangTail, look at your systems specs.... Holy crap man, I'd have AA and everything for that matter cranked to the max (except PP, I hate the fussy soft look of it). I'd like to see some screen from your rig in game at hi-res.

    Shooting out of a car/truck?

I'm just saying they have to differentiate the two products.
  12. 5,6,7,8 settings your seeing with the ATI card are Probably using ATI's MLAA. Check this out. http://sites.amd.com/us/game/technology/Pages/morphological-aa.aspx

    Shooting out of a car/truck?

I think they keep things like shooting from vehicles and walking in the loading ramp of a C-130 and jumping out the back in flight and walking around the bed of a truck and firing from there as a selling point for the VBS series. You can replace a tire in VBS too. There's allot of things implemented into VBS that we will probably never see in the Arma series. (Aside from the efforts of modders, and the openness of the arma engine) They have two products and one must be better than the other or the Real Military customers of BIS would just go by Arma2 and train with it.
  14. Read the WHOLE BIS POST. AMD's MLAA uses allot of system resources. FXAA is a shader filter and uses tiny itty bitty resourses with nearly or better results. There is allot of movement on the method and the creator is fine tuning it for the Arma2 engine pretty much daily. It's worth a forum thread read. I think AMD's Method for AA is the most resources intense of all.(FPS Killer)

    Bit overwhelmed

If you want some PvP action just filter C5 in you game server list and every night our server has a small to large group playing a wide variety of PvP games. Cerberus 5 -C5- is an elite group of gamers that have serious fun without taking themselves too serious. Our server is public to all and we also have a dedicated TS3 sever for coms. Name: Cerberus5 -C5-,PvP,Arma2,OA Address: 64.120.22.98 Port: 2312 -C5- TS3 63.227.129.130 Port 9987 No Password http://cerberus5.proboards.com/index.cgi Sadly there is only 2 US based PvP servers. I can't figure out the big draw to shooting a bunch of AI... Not fun for me. I'm old, have kids, been playing these titles for years and I just love the intense action Arma can bring when playing against real thinking enemies. Most "Joes" I believe, just don't know there is even a PvP aspect to the game at all and have never tried to ask like you. They just jump on one of the hundred coop servers (all running the same type of coop) and start playing.
  16. I believe it's something like this... low=1.5xAA Med=2xAA High=3xAA Very High=4xAA and so on... At least I think that's right. CHECK THIS OUT! FXAA. Different method for smothing jaggy edges. BIS Forum post about FXAA a new Anti Aliasing method. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=123121 AA can be very resource intense and this is an alternate method.
  17. Sprocket Store is the BEST! By direct from the Devs. My digital DL is exactly like a purchased disc. I also got the PMC & BAF for about 12.00 combined on sale at the Devs store. Super easy, just like having a hard copy and my Arma2 purchase was about $15.00 cheaper than the store copy at the time. All I hear about Steam is how much hassle it is. Why do so many peeps continue to use their service for this game. Support your favorite Developers and cut out the annoying middle man (Steam) and buy your ArmaXYZ games from Sprockets Online Store (owned by BIS).

    LAN Problems??

If he has Arma2 free then you have to host a stock Arma2 v1.10 game that he can connect to. You can't use any addons, just host a bone stock Arma2 v1.10 and he should be able to connect. Make sure you are both connected to the router and not to each other (I know it sounds silly but just making sure). You can play any custom/community made mission as long as it was created for Arma2 and uses no addons. Good luck and have fun.

    weird ArmA issue

Scripts, A.I., Tons of 3d objects(tanks,trucks,planes,choppers,houses,trees,grass,etc...). Your CPU really needs to be running at 3.2ghz or higher to calculate all the stuff and still maintain decent frames. The campaign can suck down a powerful rig and was and has been a complaint of the community since release. 2 gpu's in sli will help a little but you are better off with one card not two cause sli gives a wierd full screen studder that can be annoying once noticed... I suffer from it running a single card with two gpu's running in sli mode. I would prefer one card with at least 250+ or more processing cores. CPU, CPU, CPU! this game is massively CPU hungry. I have a X6800 2.93ghz Intel extreme CPU... If I run it at stock speed Arma2CO unplayable for me. I run it Overclocked at 3.4ghz and it's night and day difference, runs pretty great! Your chips at 2.4ghz... that's your weakest point. Sorry mate, try and swap it out if possible. 3.2 is truly minimum for a decent game.
  20. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=120498 Hope you get it working.

    weird ArmA issue

texture load probs is due to a slow HHD streaming data on demand... That's why a really fast HHD is important! Arma is so much more powerful of a game with massive capabilities that have big resource demands. Other games don't have A.I. for flys (that are atracked to dead bodies) sheep that heard like real sheep, cows and all the other wildlife all have there own A.I. As well as the A.I. troopers and the amount of 3d objects that the game has to compute and the hundreds of rounds fired tanks exploding planes flying and all of this in an environment on a VAST SCALE. It's allot for any PC to handle and impossible for a console to run.... You system is comparable to a console in its over all capabilities. sorry mate! You can upgrade your hard drive and video card(More processing cores, even if its and older card is better). CPU speed would be your next thing. I doubt you can overclock that HP. Look for a faster chip that will fit that motherboard socket and slap that in there. 2.4ghz is not gonna cut it. Arma2 really runs well with a quad core with at least 3.2ghz. Any higher and only the better.
  22. This thread is in the wrong section of the forum. There is a Arma2 Free section this should have been posted to. You will get better feedback if posted in the right spot. Make sure you desktop resolution is at its natural state. (whatever resolution your monitor can max out at is the natural state.) Then run Arma2 at the same resolution in game. Also run both resolution settings in the game at the same resolution. For example... If your display is a 1080hd monitor then... Natural Desktop Res= 1920x1080 Interface Res= 1920x1080 3d Res= 1920x1080 Hope this helps. *Also make sure you have windows auto update turned off. *Get gamebooster to shutdown any unnecessary processes running in the background and it will also free up your memory as well. *Turn off or completely remove any firewall or anti-virus as well cause they can randomly suck down massive resources and cause your game to minimize as well.

    weird ArmA issue

Don't buy HP!!!!! Anything HP!!!! Period!!! Pure Crap!!!!!!!! Next time have a system built to your specs (or build it yourself). You will spend less and get more.
  24. I3 cpu is a whimp (it meets speed reqs but just can't handle the volume of data the game needs it to crunch) and your video card is really whimpy (an old 8800gtx will smoke that card all day long). Also you have your texture detail set to high... get that to normal, even with top of the line system it is really resource intensive to have textures set to high. Also try setting object detail to low. Also, always keep your resolution setting the same. You will notice a differance in FPS with even a slightly lower overall resolution setting, just make sure both resolution setting are the same. Arma is not like other games... It's very CPU demanding (VERY!) It's also needs a very fast HHD. You don't need the newest video card, just a good one. Look for how many proccesing core the card has! A decent card for Arma2OA will have at least 200+ proccesing cores. Nvidia 260 core 216 had 216 proccesing cores, standard 260 had under 200 cores and it was a huge diff in game play and FPS. Hope this helps.
  25. Thanks everyone. I'll be getting a copy of 7,64bit very soon.
