I'd like to give IE9 a good try, but the GPU acceleration doesn't work with my card, which is weird b/c it runs Aero and a bunch of 3D games. It'll be my backup to Opera.

Hi,One last thing, what are the essential downloads, those that none of you would be without?
It's great you're getting into the world of OFP! I'd wager that 99% of those who would help you would agree that Resistance is a piece of the OFP puzzle that no-one should be without. If you can do it, return the version of the game you have and purchase the GOTY version. The vast majority of the help/suggestions that would come your way requires OFP updated to the 1.96 version.
Other than that, update whatever version you have as high as it will go (I'm assuming you already have, by the way; OFP Patches).
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on one's perspective), I have not had to overcome the problem you've described, so I'm unable to help you with that.
Good luck!

Crossing my fingers for Opera hardware acceleration!

Definitely doing anything that is related to OFP is a waste of time. The way I had read Faguss' quote, I thought he was joking/being sarcastic, actually not too far off of STGN's assessment of OFP activity. Hopefully it was a joke, b/c I thought it was funny. I don't think the work he's done w/ fwatch has been a waste of time - it's really cool stuff: go to his site and check the YouTube vid of SPIG he posted yesterday.
Zulu's tip is good stuff, too, btw. . . Thanks, man!

What do you guys think? Worth it for the increasingly hard to find missions and scripts or a waste of time?
I think it's a good idea and not a waste of time. Additionally, I think what R0adki11 mentioned is a good idea, as well.

Hi, Zulu,
Well, the current version is new to me, too - I might as well have never used it myself. I can't remember how I got it working! But, I did, so I'll just have to work through it, again. The FaceTrackNoIR program is pretty neat - I can see it tracking my head, with no need for headgear and playing in the dark. Here are the pertinent links:
FaceTrackNoIR Arma2 forum post
Update: Got freeTRack working again, fairly smoothly this time. I don't think FaceTRackNoIR will work with OFP as it does w/ Arma2, b/c I think FTNoIR is looking for something built into Arma2. I'm using a ballcap w/ a big square of reflective tape. Now, I just have to figure out how to enable FT only when I hit the ALT key.

Hi, folks,
I managed to get Free Track working w/ OFP a while back, using reflective tape and a cap. It didn't work well consistently, but I remember definitely getting it working, in-game. Unfortunately, I can't remember how to do it, anymore. I had an OFP profile (which has disappeared over the course of an upgrade to the software, unfortunately), but I'm not sure if it's one I made or one provided by a community member.
I have a renewed interest in seeing this work - over in the Arma2 forums, there is a post relating the availability of a webcam based input for Free Track that removes the need for a cap and LED/reflective tape, FaceTrackNoIR (I've managed to get this working, but I'm not sure how to confirm Free Track is picking up its inputs).
Has anyone else managed to get Free Track working w/ OFP? Do you remember how? I did a search, but it's returning more results than I have time to sift through, right now (I can't remember if my initial work on this was in response to a post here or in the Arma1 or 2 forums).
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing - fascinating presentation!

These are the islands shown in the FFUR screenshots:
(moderators: sorry for screwing up editing my post, above)

Handsignals Command System - I don't know if it's a better system, but it's fun!
search for fwatch in these OFP forums (big eye opener) - use it w/ XP compatibility mode
while you're at it, look into dxdll - if your comp can handle all it does, you might the like visuals it produces (I'm only able to use it for clean screenshots - lags too much with the other stuff)

That's the beauty of the irony I guess... the more people miss the point, the funnier it gets... as we are obviously not that smarter... see the pattern ?Well said. :)

Learn about using mod folders.
You'll be able mix mods without breaking your game (some mods and addons don't work well together). There are ways to merge some of the bigger mods (e.g. wgl+slx, graa+ecp, etc. . .) - you'll have to do some homework, but it's well worth it. This is important b/c you can end up with several Gigs of addons and mods you might want to try - BronzeEagle's link can lead to that. . .
As for mod recommendations, WGL and the FDF mod are great - the easiest way to get set up with them can be found on the CiA website.
WGL+SLX and GRAA+ECP are great, as are FFUR and ww4 for what you're looking for. If you look into other time periods/conflicts (past, future), it'll be obvious which ones to try (too many to name while typing with one hand. . .).
Learn about the WGL models replacement system to get things looking good.
Additional tips:
dslyecxi's ofp intro - good intro to the game, don't know if the links are good
Make sure to get all patched up.

http://pulverizer.pp.fi/temp/lean_overhead_mp5_spraying.avi (xvid/mp3, 30MB)It doesn't look very natural and there's some weird model warping going on, but it's a funny Hollywood-move to do :)
Holy smokes - you did it! And it looks pretty good, too!

Quantity has a quality all of its own...My sentiments exactly. Given the totality of what BIS has done (and is doing), their quantity is high quality.
For mods and missions: quality, be it in visual detail (optimized, cf. Sanctuary's OFP efforts), gameplay enhancements, campaign story presentation, etc. . .

I thought about blindfiring above head but animating the shoulders/arms that way is quite difficult. Did you have a specific obstacle in mind, Anguis?
No, Pulverizer, nothing really beyond what I mentioned; I figured it'd be too difficult to work up in the same way you'd done the others - it's pretty cool, what you've done, nonetheless (you, too, STGN).
-
Shooting blindly around the corner is a waste of animation in my opinion.STGN
I don't know - I think it's nice to have a safe 'desperation' move, possibly get some heads down and then work from there (it'd be interesting to see this above one's head, behind, say, a traffic barrier or low wall).

Outstanding, Pulverizer! Thanks!

I won't be there this time (but maybe next time): got a movie date with my wife!
Y'all have fun!
