Smoke grenades work against AI. They have saved my ass from a pissed armour crewman gunner more than once... AK

The soldier you see there is a VDV Recce trooper. He's part of the Russian VDV 1.5 Pack, by ORCS. AK

A recoilless rifle in Nogovan colours and suitably mounted on anything - can you say Recoilless on a jeep or a UAZ? - would be interesting, to say the least. AK

Eastern-Bloc equipment would likely work best for vehicles. Except motorized transport, combinations of UAZs, Jeeps, and medium trucks, like the 5ton or a Ural would be logical. And thanks for the info that the BIS M-113 is oversized. I was wondering what was on the go with that - they are massive targets in-game. I think my record for killing one was over 1.5 kilometers off, big enough target. BTR-60 or BTR-80's would work for a Nogovan APC, but for an IFV BMP1 and BMP2 would be best, for sure. AK

The Canadian Forces have used something similar to this, known as a C-2. Basically it was a C-1 [Which is a modified SLR, which in turn is a modified FN FAL] with a heavier barrel, a bipod, and I believe it could also chamber a larger magazine. I suspect the Argies have something similar to this, but I havn't seen any images of it. So far, it looks pretty good. This'll definately improve the game by some margin - definately allow for some newer, better missions. Edit: The M-113 would be a decent APC to use - given proper refit, like additional trackage linked to the sides of it, some camouflage netting on some variations, et cetera. Its a versatile platform, albeit a rather large target. -AK

I would like to note here that I have met a Mujadhid who indeed took a "Mukha" disposable rocket [akin to a RPG-7 crossbred with a LAW] up against a KA-50. And won. Lucky mutha'. As to the issue of not having enough variety of MANPAD, I agree. There are a lot of MANPAD systems out there, and they should be represented more. As to Countermeasure-equipped aircraft, I simply use a light or general-purpose machinegun on them. That or I take a LAW or sommot to them rather than try to put a AA missile on 'em, as it rarely works. Now, keeping that in mind, I have shot down countless aircraft with an "Igla" MANPAD... Including MH-60K helicopters laden with Rangers. There have been cases where its literally IMPOSSIBLE to shoot something down, I've seen MH-series choppers engage countermeasures with a RPG-7's lobbed at them. The best tactic is to mess with their heads a little. Ambushes work everywheres - use your imagination, then blow them cleanly out of the sky with a single rocket launched almost from directly underneath them. If we're going to get into MP tactics [And I'll touch on this briefly]: If I put an empty truck of some kind somewheres, someone is bound to come along and Hellfire the truck or something quite similar. Because they assume the area is deserted [The truck appears empty...] they tend to actually go into a hover - That's when I like stepping out from behind the bush with the Igla up on my shoulder. I imagine their [Edit: The pilots]facial expression is something like this: Â AK

I was wondering about that myself. I used to think that this pack also contained several Russian infantry soldiers. Now I recognize that this contains a Russian army soldier wearing a fatigue set with a pair of boots and limited webbing. Makes sense now. AK

There's a difference then. If you're forcing us to pay for the privlege to download it, then your work will be heavily pirated. BUT If you are paying for the disk, the trouble of burning CCM to the disk, and then paying for the shipping it out to the end-consumer, then Yes, I can understand being payed for that service. I suspect those with 56K modems and slower internet connections will take advantage of that. And I somehow doubt that CCM is the latest for the Flashpoint series. AK

Damn, this is some nice work here Jackal. I particularly like the inclusion of data concerning the real-life weapons, very useful, if people read it they'll realize that the remake of the M-16A2 and M-4 wasn't pointless. AK

The really funny part here is that nobody seems to recognize that when it comes to passing absurd gun laws and other such registration. I can understand registering your firearms (Type) but I can't understand having to have registry stickers on the barrel (In Canada) and all that other legalized bullshit they seem to get high off of. Its retarded. I can understand the need for weapon restrictions (Who wants to face a drive-by shooting when the gunners are armed with Kalashnikovs?) but I can't understand why people continually bitch. Blame this, blame that, blame Jesus, Blame Rap, et cetera. It really is quite pathetic. AK

I don't understand why you are lecturing me on this. I said: People don't recognize that when someone is dead, they stay dead. All these games that involve reincarnation of a fighting opponent creates a mindset where the subject (person) in question simply continues killing until some preconcieved condition was met. They fail to recognize death means its over - Finito. Of course, its entirely virtual, and hence very easy to disassociate oneself from the concept of death. As Baron Von Beer said, seeing it firsthand is differnt. Excuse me if I seemed callous in my previous posts, I'll go back and remove them, hmm? AK

Its funny - People blame violent video games and movies, et cetera, for desenzitizing youth. The last military video game (PC) I saw advertised on TV was Call Of Duty - other than that, you get a bunch of Console game advertisements. Yes, it can desensitize children to death - That'll happen anyways. The children will not survive if they keep screaming every time they hear something on the news about someone dying. Shit happens. As to the CS strategies - CS is a piece of shit. That this kid was at all able to execute headshots while clearing the school (Forgive me for the use of military terminology) is truely a testiment to his skill - not the game. That he at all played the game is merely a coincidence. The strategies he used - Room clearing is the same all over the world. Doesn't matter if you practice virtually. Now, some games desensitize youth faster. I tend to abhore games that work with freakin' Health Bars and that - Realism Is Fun (At least for me.) Things like Soldier-Of-Fortune-2 (Double Helix). That damn Ghoul-2 system nearly kicked the military-gaming-industry in the testicles, with the political whiplash and that. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris (The two who executed the Columbine event) were reported to say in the library after shooting a Negro student in the head: "Dude, look at this black kid's brain!" "Cool!" That, to me, says that they were desensitized by someone, something, or they were just to angry to give a rats ass about how anything looked or felt - psychotic behaviour with firearms. Columbine resulted in 13 dead, 23 wounded, and the expenditure of over 200 rounds of ammunition in addition, IN ADDITION, to several bombs being detonated and emplaced. Seems odd that only 13 died. There are mitigated circumstances however - the weapons carried by Klebold and Harris jammed frequently, and they were focused more on planting explosives than gunning down students as they packed themselves into all-too-obvious killzones. They obviously learnt that from somewheres. It is impossible to "police" the internet, and these Internet Filters do more harm than good. Its really all about choice I'd say. Parents have to watch their children for signs of angst - I'd personally take my kids shooting sometime (Assuming I ever reproduce) - They'd learn firsthand the power of a firearm and would be less likely to point it at a fellow human being therefor. Unless I manage to father (again, assuming I reproduce) some really psychotic children. Pipski said it best about the spree killings. Sure, violent video games play a role here in some cases, but a lot of the time, it just happens. Not a whole lot you can do about it, and turning your country into a locked-down and heavily policed state is hardly the answer. AK Edit: While an interesting read, that PDF that "The Avon Lady" provided is hardly fair - its obviously biased against the violent-video gamer in general. Most military simulation games (Such as Flashpoint) do not place a emphasis on female characters - women are rarely found on the front lines - or race/gender. If you'll remember, your Sergeant for the offical campaign was a Negro - And with BOH, there is a higher proliferation of Asiatic characters. -- AK

Well, I'd recommend UK-F then, if they release anything in time for your project or whatever it is that you need the Britishers for. Of course, you specified Modern - there are many WW2 ones out, previously listed. AK

Small? *Hides AKS-74M* Anyways... *Whistles* No, it isn't. But it is funny when you think its a robber, blow your daughter/sister/aunt/MotherInLaw away. Especially when you serve jailtime for being a f**kwit... Back ontopic perhaps, and no more BS about fookin' nukes, k? AK

A military is essential to internal security and support. Most people tend to overlook that the primary goal of any government is to keep their citizens alive and relatively *Cough* healthy so that they actually have someone to govern... AK
-
That was me oversimplifying. An army styled along European Army Lines, best kept for national defense and peacekeeping, not offensive operations as the American army seems singularaly geared towards. AK
-
*Smacks self in head* And that, dear Sir, is unfiltered horseshit. The Commanding Officer of a Regiment or actual Corps does not go banding about in the field with his troopers. If by Commanding Officer you meant Platoon Leader( s), section leaders, etc. then it makes sense. And a lot of things that have recently been suggested make me doubt the overall intelligence of the people participating in this thead (Myself included for giving everybody the opportunity to flame me) Nuclear weapons, all this modern gear - and also pretending that people'll swallow their pride and beg on bended knee for a SF cadre to train their ENTIRE fighting force as was suggested... No, that's not realistic, or even close to it at all. Apparently we're pretending the NDF is a "Euro" army, with some decent gear, but its not outfitted for "Hyperwar" like the Americans are... So far, its amazing how useless the last few pages of this thread have become. AK
-
Why are you even thinking of nuclear weapons? While we're talking about that, lets give them a giant multistage thermonuclear bomb. And the biggest "Bang" you're gonna get out of a nuclear artillery shell is about 1 KT. And its nice to see this thread degenerated so quickly. Might as well shoot the sick horse... AK
-
Yes, I know that. I never said NOT to do them, I just said: Get the basic line-trooper done before you start engineering SF units. AK
-
What if TimTams arn't good? (In response to your signature) Or, alternatively, we could do something that isn't too far ahead of ourselves. My thoughts: While I love the KMARN gear, the KMARN Soldier Model seems "too Advanced" for these troopers, with the flack vest and all. "We" should firm up the look on default soldiers and gear before we start wondering about SF. AK
-
No, they wouldn't have. Rangers and SFOD-D would still think they are worthless SOB's because their offical acryonm is CRAP. Its the Elitist thing. Dunno why we're crawling all over Nogova using SF when they don't even have a firmed-down look and equipment for their basic line grunt! Methinks we're getting ahead of ourselves. AK
-
If we're gonna add in a SF unit, then I'd say call 'em: Nogovan Highland Rangers, the acryomn doesn't quite matter as much as the full name. NHR is fine, at least it isn't the (This was a Canadian Political Party) The: Canadian Reform Alliance Party, or CRAP. So long as we avoid things like that, we'd have a viable name for the SF unit. AK
-
I like it. "Modern Everon." Sounds damn good to me. I'd add in a bit more infrastructure too - roadways and cities should be improved a little. Perhaps work off those Default islands with upgraded ground texes would make it look damn good. AK

Yes, that means that we'll have to make sure we don't end up with the "Torso Skin" patch - like at the neck of a lot of T-shirts on mods now for some reason. Just cover all the exposed skin on the torso so we don't deal with some black dude with a white chest. That'd be odd to say the least. AK
