Aye, that's a G3A4 with a mid-production pattern foregrip, looks like.

Me? Vit? Shit, but I wish I had that guy's talent. I think I recall a rather kickass Russian APC pack. No, I'm simpy "AK." Problem is, these boards wanted a three letter minimum, so I became "AKM." At the time I favoured the brute force of the 7.62x39mm over the "rip shit up"-ism of the 5.45x39mm.

This looks very good, far superior to the original release! Although, if I may make a suggestion, I typically saw Northern Alliance fighters wearing a particular type of camouflage uniform, just the jacket or the pants, rarely a complete uniform, but perhaps this could be included? Unfortunately I can't quite find you a decent reference. It was a tan-based 'tigerstripe' -esque uniform. Sorry I cannot be more specific than that at the moment. And if I recall correctly, perhaps clean the groups and individual unit lists up a bit too. It was messy enough to hinder mission-making last time.

Indirect fire with infantry scripts
AKM replied to General Barron's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
The British L7A1 GPMG, or FN-MAG/58, KSP-58, C-6, M-240B / G, etc, on a sustained fire mounting with the C-2 optical sight and the like is capable of indirect fire, to clarify the above quote. Also, M-2HBs in Canadian service* with sustained fire equipment are also capable of indirect fire. I too am interested if these scripts could be integrated into an addon to simulate indirect machinegun fires. * - Granted, all MMGs and HMGs are capable of indirect fire as well. Just that the Canadians happened to be a major force in the development of machinegunnery, and I don't believe other nations use the HMG in a indirect fire role. Unfortunately the CF disbanded the Machinegun School and so gimped our gunners. Bastards. Sorry, that kind of slipped out. -
Look, if schizophrenic hallucinations had votes, I'd be the prime minister of Canada by now. Unfortunately they don't. Hmm. Possibly an FN-FAL?

Shiiiiiit. Messiah raises a good point. It's also occurred to me that if we break his knees, he'll have little to do besides rot watching 24 and rot working on v3.0.
-
FDFmod and earlier still, SEB 'Nam Pack v2.0 included RPDs. Edit: JdB was faster on the trigger.
-
Yeah. A lot of Kalashnikovs and the like are mutiliated with American (Or Western) sights. I've seen a few AKS-74Us with SUSATs and that kind of thing fitted to them.
-
I'm not really familiar with the WW2 mods, but Caen '44 from WW2EC is looking promising. Very promising indeed. Unfortunately not released yet - and it would seem that the Invasion 1944 Demo released quite some time ago is still the 'standard' for Western Front combat.
-
Pretty sure that's the "ORCS" Vintorez. As far as I know, RHS hasn't released one. Yet.

The RDG-5s should work, and they should be a fair bit more powerful than standard BIS grenades. They're not scripted to be timed or anything fancy like that, so I have no idea where your problem might be.

9K32 "Strela" and the advanced Igla in FDFmod, as plaintiff1 said. Believe it's been there since v1.1 or so.

Excellence, thanks! Thanks to it being April First and all, I was sitting here originally thinking: "Ah, that cruel bastard, an update really *would* kick ass. Oh wait, it's not a joke? Sweet." All this new chatter 'ought to liven up the long CTIs a bit. Again, thanks.

I concur with Hellfish. It is looking excellent. Regarding the whole car/tank class debate, it may be better to have the Stryker set up as a car class vehicle, using methods similiar to the OFrP VAB 20/13 to get most of the primary armaments working. If I recall correctly, the standard Stryker only mounts a .50 caliber instead of an automatic cannon, and there are variants with Mk.19 40mm AGLs? I'm not too up to date on the Stryker system, but if I recall correctly the only one mounting a cannon that might nessecitate switching to 'tank' class is the MGS, with a 105mm gun that is likely to tip the vehicle onto its side. (I seem to remember some pictures showing braces being used to hold the vehicle upright while the gun was being fired over the left and right arcs while on trials.) If not, could probably get the best of both worlds by using two PBOs, one for the car-class Strykers and one for the tank-class Strykers. That is, if you've made an MGS. If not then the suggestion is moot.

Well, this comes immediately to mind. Engaging resistance troops (Can't remember which addon. DMA, EDGE, BIS Defaults, no idea.) as Dutch Pantserinfanterie, C-7A1 with an ELCAN. I fire off five rounds, two take down one fellow and two take down another. The fifth round however, misses the second target, because when I lined him up I was going for two-center and let recoil put the third round whereever it hit, I figured the head, but he went down with the first two, which I wasn't anticipating, since I've had stopping power issues with the C-7s before on some units, and the round goes over his head. I'm advancing with the YPR-765 and what's left of my section a bit later, and I come across a dead body at a crossroads, with one round in the head. This is about... six hundred meters further away from the initial engagement site and there was no shooting after that skirmish, so he was taken down with a stray round. Interesting stuff.

I'm surprised that the mods haven't locked this yet. Very surprised. No no no, it's like hieroglyphs. They tell a story. In this case, that the original poster is an inbred bastard-child deserving of a splashing with ignited white phosphorous, but a story nonetheless.

The Waffen SS was a rather cosmopolitian military force, handling individual brigades and divisions from all over Europe - Frenchmen, Belgians, Dutch, Scandinavians, Southern Slavs, etc, all applied and were accepted. I believe the 12th SS Panzergrenadier division "Hitlerjugend" didn't have a single man over age thirty except for senior, and we're talking divisonal staff, officers. A lot of them were under twenty, and fanatical. Also, effective battlefield troops, due to their training program which was slightly different than the standard. I don't think that Hitlerjugend was deployed near Arnhem during Market Garden. The Wehrmacht fielded a large number of troops that wouldn't have otherwise been considered for combat, especially on the Western front. The 'Ostfront' required the prime troops to delay the Soviet sledgehammer.

Nicely said Bambi, nicely said. I second the motion.

I don't want to speak for the author, but ONS is inactive, apparently since their death has been denied by members of the modteam in the recent past. The author would appear to be conducting this effort independantly of Operation NorthStar.

Unfortunately that's how CADPAT is. It's usually too dark (Fresh issue) or too light (After fading.) The sweet spot is somewheres in the middle. Of course, Murphey's Law dictates that you'll only blend with your surroundings in the training field and that period shall not exceed 30 days in duration. CADPAT/AR on the other hand, doesn't have this problem.

I am fully aware that the .50 caliber is not a automatic cannon, for example the 23mm mounted to the Mi-24P is or the 30mm on the AH-64. Vietnam and Korea in that case. The point here isn't history, but I do distinctly recall American fighters being sent aloft in Korea with only missiles, running out of missiles, and subsequently being shot down by MiG-17s. I am not an aviation expert though, would require more research which is not important. That's what I said. Sorry, in advance, if I'm misinterpreting what you've said in a more aggressive light than the comment was actually made in.
-
In Korea, the Americans learnt not to send up fighters without cannons, because when you ran out of missiles, the enemy still had his cannon left over. I'd like to see a fifty caliber on the OH-58D by default, the remaining pylon loadout is not as important to me as the ability to engage light vehicles and infantry constantly is.

It looks like you've attained a good balance between playability and unit quality. Looking forward to your release.

Miles, you say this about journalists and yet I have many books written by journalists who've operated independantly of the Russian military in 'the Zone.' What you say is true though, regarding mission-making, motivation, even bothering to debate this point. I do know I'd support the Russians over the Chechens myself; your cause loses all legitimacy once you cut the head off a PoW with a kitchen knife and record it on film. I look forward to your "My Jihad" mission. There is definately enough in that book for a fair-sized SP mission.

CT, we're looking at Chechnya here. You know how some people are rabidly anti-Croatian or anti-Serbian, for example? Take that, and multiply it by a factor of about... oh, a thousand. That's somewhat-moderate perception of Chechnya. There's a lot of propaganda, but even the most absurd propaganda often has a tail somewheres in the truth. The Chechens weren't real hospitable to the ethnic Russians in their predominantly-Chechen areas, there's a lot of bad blood, a lot of bad history. And typically, you'll never get a complete picture from anyone. For example, if you read Aukai Collins' book; "My Jihad," the Russians are insane pig-dogs, raping and killing their way across Chechnya. If you read other books, reports, etc, the Chechens are the bad guys. What muddies the waters further is that 'Jihad' has been declared in the Caucasus, so there are Mujahideen flooding in, or at least there were. And these Arabs, some of them are from Afghanistan and surrounding regions, as previously mentioned, out for Russian blood in retaliation for the events of the Eighties. For example, Russian soldiers have been accused of killing off entire villages. At the same time, Chechen fighters and Arabic Mujahids have been found wearing complete Russian uniforms, ambushed by Russian Special Forces teams leaving the sites of atrocities apparently designed to discredit the Russians with the locals. It also doesn't help that the Russian military is corrupt and essentially in a fall-down state, even in such active areas as Chechnya, or the "Southern Autonomous Zone" if I recall correctly. Equipment goes 'missing,' Hell, troops don't even get paid, sometimes they're not fed for weeks, months. There've been cases in which entire Russian infantry companies have deserted their bases to head into town and get some food. That's how bad it can get. What you saw there from Nemesis6 was a pretty tame description of what Chechens or Russians will do to the other. I've heard the exact same thing before, applied to either side.
