Ex BIS developer looking for old OFP pictures from fun.bistudio.com
Araon posted a topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Hello! I just wanted to ask if anyone happen to have some old Operation Flashpoint screenshots from now long time dead "fun" subsection of BIS pages. Preferably those showing crazy OFP bugs. :-) I intend to present a talk about OFP development and I need more pictures for my slideshow. :-) I moved half across the world and in the process lost most of my old files. Help OBIS-Wan Kenobi. You are my only hope! Petr "Araon" Pechar -
Well, I think it's actually a great news. Disney isn't that bad. They already have Pixar and even Marvel under their wings and they aren't much for worse because of that, aren't they? And as many pointed out before me, they can't do more damage to Star Wars than Lucas already did. Oh, and btw - it means that Disney also have rights to Indiana Jones now!

These shadows are in _AS map. If you want to remove them, you can use already existing _AS map for head from some civilian character without hat, or you have to edit the one actually used on the model.

I think few screnshots of that problem would be better than just description. Could you try snap some?

What he is saying is, that colormap (the only map wich you can change) is only part of the final result. Face with colormap and normalmap looks like this: Familiar, isn't it? But if you'll remove the colormap, face will still keep a lots of details which are affecting the final appearence: And even when you'll remove the normalmap, the face is still keeping its shape: So even if you'll make the greatest colormap ever, it cannot completely change the basic look of the face.

Our normalmaps are used as normalmaps, but there is more ways of creating them. On some objects (mostly on soldiers) are normalmaps created from hi poly mesh, on other objects are normalmaps just generated from grayscale map handpainted in photoshop (for example is way faster draw dots on the texture than actually model 2000 rivets on blackhawk), and sometimes it's combination of those two (when you need to add button on the sleeve, is easier to paint it than model it). So in short - yes, our normalmaps are real normalmaps, but in many cases they weren't created from hi poly model and theoretically plain bump map would do the same effect. But our engine doesn't have support for them.
