  1. Hi, It depends on what purpose you are trying to serve. For a cutscene, I'd slow down time so the rotor was more defined. For use during regular play, you'd have to edit the .cpp of the addon and/or make your own helo. If this doesn't help, I recommend giving more detail of what you want to achieve and for what purpose.     Very Important Announcement from BAS

    I've never understood the people in the community that feel they are owed an addon once they see screenshots of it. Â Let's stop and think about it people... Â Every addon maker out there could choose to just stop and not release everything else they're working on and you wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Â The reason? Â It's their work, and they can do what they want with it! Â That being said, THANK YOU BAS for all of your hard work and dedication. Â Â You have made OFP a much more enjoyable experience for me and many others and I take this news both with sadness and hopefullness for the future. Â I'll be there when OFP2 comes out, ready to play with some more of your top quality work! Â I hope this experiene shows some of the community that addons, missions, tools, websites, etc, are not a right to the community but a privilage. Â Asmo

  8. Hi everyone, This mission was released on 05/23/04 and I'm just looking for some feedback. Large Image So far ruff has told me he gets an error and can't play the mission no matter what he does. Â The BAS team and recently The Avon Lady have told me that it works fine and they liked it. So, I'm looking for more feedback.     BAS Delta/Ranger Woodland Demo

    Thanks for the feedback STGN! You start with an M24 because a BAS sniper starts with one by default. Â Like you said, you can choose an M21 or give your spotter a sniper rifle and take his SR-25. Â I think this is a big enough battle to not really need a silencer... The whole idea is to "bait and switch", in order to bait, you must be heard and followed after assassinating the Officer. Â As far as MG's, they are in the Ranger squads and are drawing fire away from you, plus a sniper unit is much more likely to be stealthy at the first of the mission if it has 2 or less people. Â It's just a squad construction decision that I made. Â Â Asmo *edit* P.S. Ninja, forgot to reply to you too, must still have tired eyes lol! Yeah, tell me some of these real life techniques!

    @ ruff You misunderstood me. Â I meant group respawn for the human players. Â Glad you liked the mission, and yes I locked the hinds on purpose. Â Thanks, lol! Â You don't know how right you are, next is the desert mission and it's pretty close to done. Â *edit* Anyone want to help with voice acting? If so, please PM me. *edit* Yeah, I really need to release that mission! Â @ Ninja Makes sense about the MP testing thing. LoL, as far as the easy part... I can see what you mean. Â But remember, since this is a demo mission I try to craft it to be playable and fun for the greatest part of the target audience. Â It's a delicate balance, that's for sure. Â Perhaps, for the "Super" version if I do it, I could also make it much more difficult, and perhaps add another objective or two. Â (since I'd be able to make it for people with "high end" computers in mind) It's just so funny to hear that one of my missions is thought of as too easy. Â I've got soooo much feedback in the past that I make missions "impossible", "way too many enemies", etc. Â And on some occasions, I kinda agree with them. Â Â However, I've always been of the opinion that a good mission shouldn't be too easy because it negatively effects replayability. Â As I said before though, IMO this is not always true with a demo mission. Asmo P.S. Â I suggest trying to get to your sniping position without setting off the alarm. Â There are 2 guards on the hill and if you only shoot one, the other runs and tells the enemy to set off the alarm. Â

    @ Gollum1 Thanks! Â I'd like to tell you one key thing that addresses # 2 and 5. So, since they have increased weight by a lot, there are a few unavoidable sideffects. Â If we made them weigh the "correct" amount, these bikes would bounce around so much you'd think you were playing ping pong! Â (this is one of the things that the EC worked with Tomb and Klink on to fix) I'll let Tomb or Klink field the other questions. Â Thanks again for the feedback!     Ninja, Wasn't it too easy then? I find for every possible player you must add at least a couple more squads to make it about the same difficulty. I'm thinking of having 1 squad of Rangers playable as well as the Delta Demo squads, and have group respawn perhaps. Asmo

It is definately possible that I will do all BAS Demo missions I make as co-op as well, since I just recently started really getting the hang of making MP missions the way I want thanks to looking at Nagual's work.     @ Ninja_STO Thank you very much! Â Â I really appreciate the feedback and am glad to live up to BAS expectations. Â Â It's cool to know that people have fun with missions I make and I agree with the extra objective idea but I can't do it because I don't want it to lag for "low end" computers. Â (I've been there) Â Â I may release a seperate version that requires "high end" computers and then I could go hog wild. Â @ ruff Ah ha!!! Â Right on, you found it.     Ofp limitations

    This is the exact method I had thought of. Using depressions, you can already make trenches and such on your map, but to make tunnels etc, you just make that section an added object, sort of like a plug. Visualize the tunnels, caves, etc and then imagine "cutting" that entire section out of the map like a slice of cake. In the actual map, that area would be an empty box-shaped cutout. The added object is then made the same as a house is, but instead of being boxed, the "rooms" would be the tunnels or what ever. Then that "house" would be placed in the map and made as a permanent item, same as all other map structures. It would require a bit of test-fitting to make sure it looks natural and smooth. I am not sure about clipping through it, such as what happens at times through house walls or falling through the bridges at times, but it should be ok this way. Through using this technique, it should be possible to make any kind of underground or similar area. I never knew about those areas on Tonal, I'll surely have to look for them. Have many people yet used this technique? Would make a lot of maps more interesting for certain uses. Yep, it's a great idea! Â Kaliyuga has been in the process of making that happen for another release of his Island, Kalighat. Â Keep an eye out because we thought of some other things that may be possible that haven't been done yet, just still need to try it out and test it. Â Oh yeah and we were told making a submarine would be impossible, and there are some limitations to it, but I can definately state that we overcame some limitations for it. Â (having a working sub with animated submersion capabilities, getting the fire geometry to work decently with this animation, getting around the fact that you can't have the player underwater but we had to simulate just that for the cargo and pilot views and still make the periscope view work as well as possible, among other things. Â ) This "game" (battlefield simulation) and community is amazing, there have been so many "limitations" overcome that it would be impossible for me to list them all. Â So, I'll just say thanks to all the addon makers, mission designers, scripters, tutorial writers and everyone else that participates in pushing the limits of OFP! Â Asmo P.S. The "clipping" through walls is easily solved with very thick walls and geo's. It's just that you have to make the design of the object work in concert with these thick walls, which can be a problem sometimes.

    @ batdog Good!  I hope that fixes it for you. @ Avon LOL!  Thanks again for the feedback either way!   (I may submit that mission for the mission editing competition)  @ ruff  That REALLY sucks!   Have you tried reinstalling your graphics card drivers and perhaps direct X?? Have you done anything new to your computer recently? Perhaps you should start a thread in the troubleshooting board.  There's some very helpful, knowledgable people that respond in there and they may have a better idea of a fix for you.  (I recommend giving full details on the situation, including as specific as possible system specs, direct x version, last installation of key drivers, etc etc) Good luck, and I'll be watching if you start a thread and will continue to give my ideas!  I have no idea why it would just affect my missions....  Are we talking all my relased missions, even my very first old as hell mission Elite Sniper??  Thanks everyone, and please give me more feedback on the mission if you can!   (any constructive feedback is good, even if you don't think you have much to say, please do!)     I don't have much to add as far as improvements or suggestions, everyone has covered what I would say. As far as the sounds, I don't really remember if I liked them a lot or not... I'll have to check it out again and really pay attention to that. (I was too busy taking out the convoy in the demo) Oh yeah, I like the music in the demo mission too, good stuff like usual Cassandra! (can I call you Cassie?) I'd love to see an updated version with the changes you mentioned, and have started a mission with these that's pretty fun. (at least for me) Good work Sole and Cassandra! Asmo

  23. Ok, I have a mission using custom music that my band made. The only thing stopping me from being able to submit it is this part: This is absolutely killing me! I have the perfect mission in mind for submission, but cannot make the song any shorter for various reasons. (This is at a bitrate of 80 Kbps) The mission size would be ~ 4 MB. Placebo or any other person that can give me an official answer on this problem please advise. I'd like to be a part of this but don't want to make my song any lower quality... It'll end up sounding like crap! Thanks, Asmo

    Yeah, the info about compressed addons causing a significantly increased CPU load was directly from Suma: Learn something new every day! Â Asmo *edit* Â The thread this came from is here. Also, not compressing the addon has no effect on the file size of the rar or zip file, I have done tests and the final zip or rar is the same size in the end with or without compressed .pbo's. Â (the raring or zipping compresses the files that the pbo tool normally would) *edit* (bolded some important parts of Suma's post)

Â Also, thanks for sharing the story and the picture! As far as the size of the pack, I didn't think there was a need to verify the texture format when we got them... Â Whoops! Â As far as compressing the .pbo, I remember hearing that that is actually a bad idea because OFP then has to decompress everything and it causes slowdowns at one point or another... Â @ fighter Thanks for the screenshot! Â That's very cool and is on my desktop for the week. Â @ BoweryBaker That's a strange bug! Â Guess those addons don't like to play nice together... Â Mission sounds cool, I'd like to see it when you're done. Â @ Tomislav Strange, and I take it that this continues to happen? Â I hate to say it but it sounds like either your OFP and/or your computer are on crack. Â Â I don't even begin to have an explanation for what you are experiencing. Â Yeah, in my opinion this should work with pretty large scale missions just fine. Â I don't see why you think this is such a big deal, do you make addons too? Â Or have you run tests where this negatively affected your ability to play a large scale mission? Â FYI, I did a little comparison, the TMCM bikes are 3870 faces. Â BIS's Bus model is 3264 faces, and BIS's Su25 is 1972 faces without the missles. Â Not a gigantic, terrific difference in my opinion. That may be a fact for you, but it is not for me. Â To tell you the truth it doesn't really matter to me if the masses like the addons that I'm a part of or if they think I should be making them for this game or not. Â I do it because I enjoy it for other reasons. Â (Don't get me wrong, it's always a bonus and very cool when other people get enjoyment, but is certainly not a requirement for projects I participate in) Anyhow, bottom line is I'm glad to hear your thoughts and appreciate you expanding on them so I understand a little more.
