Yeah, the new Republicans are kind of strange in that aspect, Tex. They want to cut taxes but spend as much as the Democrats. How is that possible? Either way, things would definately be better had 9/11 not occured. I have a question for any economists/historians here. In Canada, the 'Income Tax' was introduced as a temporary (lol) measure in order to pay for WW1. What kind of taxes did the government collect before then? How did they make their money? And why are we still paying out our @$$es up here? Tyler
-
Ahem, we have a surplus in Canada, but it isn't money the government has earned. It's our (Canadian taxpayer) money. The Liberals got it through raising taxes and cutting back on all sorts of programs, and Chretien has the balls to say that he's a better PM than most for doing it. Didn't the Democrats in the U.S. do something similar? The economic recession started in the Clinton era, so I don't know why people are blaming bi-partisan politics for it, it's not like the government has 100% control of the economy, all they can do is try and influence it. I'm definately no economist, but wasn't the economic growth a false one? Didn't people start investing all kinds of money into dot.com industries which created a sort of 'false rise' in the economy? Then didn't the bubble burst because people didn't actually use internet services? Isn't that how the tech. industry got screwed? Anyone remember Pets.com? What a joke. Where's a :roll eyes: emoticon when I need one. That program has been underway for more than a decade. Tyler

Alright alright, no I don't know alot about what happened in S.Korea. Remark withdrawn. But why would so many South Koreas be so upset about an 'accident' from a country that has defended them for 50 years? They obviously have a reason. As for what happened in Afghanistan, I've spoken with a few CF personell who were there and they tell me with a great deal of confidence that there is no reason why a 500lb bomb should have been dropped on their position. All you have to do is follow the news on what happened there. There was enough evidence for a court martial yet there wasn't one. Why not? What changes have been made to avoid something like this again? Any? At minimum, those pilots flying days should be over. But it's unlikely even that will happen. Tyler

Hey, maybe I'll join the U.S. military. I can kill some allies or run over some Korean civilians with my armoured vehicle. Even if there is enough evidence to try and convict me, I'll still get off scott free. Sweet. You guys have a nice system down there. No accountability can be cool. Now where's ma' weapons?

From now on the masses shall be reffered to as: "Sheeple" In my opinion, the countries of the world are on a slow path to totalitarianism. The warning signs are all around. By changing what people concieve as 'freedom' the rules can get more restrictive without people even knowing it. Who cares if you can't own certain things or say certain things, so long as we all have the right to go out pleasure oursleves on whatever activities we want, right? Anyone who opposes any new government restrictions based on the fact that our freedoms are being eroded will be labeled a nut-job by the powers that be and the sheeple will follow the government line. Wasn't there a 'COINTELPRO' (Counter Intelligence Program) in the U.S. to make any political dissenters look like fools to the mainstream? Go here. This was 30-40 years ago. Imagine the shit they have now. And this isn't limited to the U.S. either. If you think you're safe, don't. State monitored video cameras (as said before) are a tool for government power. Should the wrong government get in power, or the limits as to what kind of intrusion the sheeple will allow change, we're all screwed. Plain and simple. Tyler P.S. Maybe I should run and hide before the government minders bash down my door and drag me away to the Ministry of Love.

Wow. This situation kind of came out of thin air. Just let me say: Holy F*ck! And: It was nice having you around, even though we rarely agreed on things. The forae won't be the same without you. Good luck and take care. Tyler
-
I'd rather have more officers on the beat than more cameras. A video camera can't save your life. I'm surprised more people aren't as concerned about this as they should be.

Whoa there FSPilot! Let's not turn this into a 'being gay is right or wrong, or whatever' debate. Because you will be vastly outnumbered and this thread will be locked in a second. But I guess when people bring up topics like the issue at hand, dicussions like that are always inevitable.

LOL, ever read the bible? Â What a private institution, like the church in quesion, does with it's members is of no interest to me. If you start up a club, you can admit whomever you want, or appoint anyone you feel is capable to leadership positions within sed club. Let me just say this: If you have absolute faith in a religion, then you follow it to the letter and agree with everything it says. So if I was a true Catholic, I'd follow the bible to the letter, ie: homosexuality is wrong, having a personal slave is O.K., never eat meat on a Friday, pre-marital sex is wrong, etc, etc, etc. You just don't pick and choose what you want to beleive and what you want to ignore. At least that's how I see it, and that's why I don't claim to be a member of any particular faith, be it Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Christian in general, Muslim, Jew, or whatever. So is the church really being Christian in admitting gays to the church? Tyler

They should have called it "The Longest Movie" It's on History Television right now (the Canadian version of the History Channel) and I have been watching bits of pieces of it. That channel will also be showing "A Bridge Too Far", I'll have to watch that one.

I wonder how much taxpayer money the U.S. Military wastes on the development of shit they will never use. Does anyone remember that article in Popular science a few years back in which the U.S. Army's concept of a soldier in 2012 would be? They had this army guy dressed in black with what looked like a motorcycle helmet, and a wrist mounted gun/rocket launcher, complete with a cooling system in the suit. I also remember watching CNN and a special they had on futuristic army kit, which included a robot 'mule' which could wheel around a soldiers kit instead of having him carry a rucksack. I would have loved to see someone try and use that in Afghanistan. Friggin' morons. Who recruits these R&D guys anyway? The U.S. military is the strongest in the world, yet some guys in it feel the need to make it stronger and stronger. Some people just baffle me. Oh well. Tyler

Well, I wan't to get back to MP play, I haven't done it in about a year, but now I feel the urge to again. Since I just reformatted my HD, I don't want to download any software with any spyware in it. And I hear game spy is full of it. Is there a 'lite' version of Game Spy with out the spyware? Or is there another service I should use? What do you guys suggest? Tyler
-
Thanks Apollo. I've had the game for so long, but I never knew that feature existed. Just spent 2 hours playing some awesome MP.

How do I use the ingame browser?

LOL, I saw something like that coming.

I doubt it. I don't think the U.S. has the resources to pull off another invasion. They already have a $500 billion debt to deal with. And besides, I don't think U.S. opinion would favour another invasion this time. There was enough opposition the first time around. My hope is that the middle east can stabilize and that the West, especially the U.S. doesn't forget it's commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan, or else they will turn into nests of terrorism all over again. So, is this the 500th' page? edit: damn. C'mon 500!

Someone had to do it.

Aren't we all? So it's true that you don't get honor in the SCI (or something like that) servers? I played the radio tower mission just once. I'm not a big fan of it for some reason. Not enough cover.
-
Touche` I was going to put off university for a year to head into Afghanistan, but they ended up taking very few reservists, contrary to what they told me when I put my name in for a tour. Oh well. I'm headed off to Nipissing U. in the frozen tundra of North Bay, Ontario starting in September. You still in Colorado?

AA can be pretty fun to play if you get some good players in the mix. I like the Convoy mission and the Bridge mission. My honor is about a 22. I haven't played it in a bit since I just reformatted my HD (about 4 times in 2 months) and I haven't bothered to D/L the game again. But I will. There's a Bridge SE ? ? ? ? Tex, what's your nick in AA? Mines' the same as it is here.
-
And I'm sure he will. But before he does.... It's nice to see you around again, where did you go?

My first time was with this girl that I picked up in the Falls....... Oh....... this is about games......... OK. The first 'modern' PC FPS that I played was Delta Force. I remember downloading the demo and playing it for the first time. I never knew games like that existed, it was so cool. I got the same feeling again playing OFP for the first time. Way back when we had our old PC, there was this 2D game called captain comic. I played that thing for hours on end, then I'd play Kings Quest V for a bit. But the very first time with an FPS? I recall playing wolfenstien 3D at a freinds house during the lunch hour. It must have been 1994. As for my very first electronic game ever? I have no idea. I really didn't get hooked until the mid 90's. Tyler

Since this is a Vietnam oreinted game, will there be Australian units in the game? I'm not sure if this question has been posed yet, but I thought I would speak up anyway. The Aussies did make a contribution so it would be nice to see some units and vehicles (Like the Centurion) dedicated to the Australian forces. Tyler

That bad attitude isn't just restricted to Finland. I'm not trying to bash anyones political beliefs here, but it seems to me that leftists in general follow that pattern of: "legislate our lives from cradle to grave". We have people in Canada calling for a way to regulate (install a speed govenor in) all cars to a 100kp/h speed limit because people keep speeding. I also hear people talk of birth licences. Pathetic, eh? Britains' attitude doesn't suprise me at all. While they may not be econmically independant of Europe, they have that feeling that they are an island and have never been conquered in all their existance (since the middle ages anyway). They seem to pride themselves on strength and independance, they don't want to be absorbed by the "big guy" and I respect that. At least the English have determinable differences from the rest of Europe, like language, culture, history, etc. Here in Canada we really don't have those advantages (except Quebec, but they're not *real* Canadians anyway :P ). So people here try very hard not to be identified as Americans because we, like England, don't want to be absorbed by the "big guy". Even though corporate America owns our ass anyway, no thanks to weak Canadian politicians. Tyler
