  1. Kinda:-)

I figured I could forgoe the reinstall of tcp/ip since I reinstalled the entire OS, after fdisking and reformatting:-)

For some reason, XP is kind of stubborn about removing tcp/ip, so I took the next best route, and figured I'd rule out my unofficial SP1 copy at the same time.

No daemons running packet filtering or NAT, the machine is outside my firewalls all by itself:-)

I'm a netadmin by trade, so I've got a pretty good handle on things from this side, but for some reason the implementation of winsock with ofpr just doesn't seem to want to play nice with my configuration. :-(

haven't had any probs with any of the other ded servers I've hosted, and it wouldn't be so bad if ASE could see the server, but with it not showing in ANYTHING, i'm getting desperate :-)

  2. Well, I thought it my have been an early version of the winXP service pack 1 tht I installed, so today I completely reinstalled XP, and am still having the same prob. So now I'm running out of ideas.

The only other thing I think that could be different from the average setup, is that I run 2 NICs, though even with one of them disabled, I still get the same thing.

Suma, are there any provisions for specifying which NIC or IP the server should use for transport?

Any other suggestions would be most welcome, since if I can't get this working soon, I may have to just stop hosting OFP, directplay is no good if noone can see the server from the ingame browser OR ASE.

  3. When I run flashpointserver.exe, either by itself, or through a .bat file with options, I get "Server creation failed : 2302" in the titlebar of the console window, and "Dedicated server created" in the console window itself. All this after maybe a 10 second delay with nothing happening.

I'm hoping to change the server over to resistance by friday, so any help would be appreciated!

  4. Loyalty isn't really in the equation for me..it's a form of entertainment, not military service, in which I served loyally for 9 years. I agree, this is an amazing game, and there is nothing like it out there right now, which is why I've put my resources into hosting a ded server for the game since it first came out. Though I have to admit when we were having the MAJOR bugs, like choppers killing you in midair for no reason, etc.., I looked around to see if there was a comperable game to switch to, there were none, so I toughed it out :-)

I'm just saying that the game still has some rough edges, and I hope they all get cleared up in resistance, because sooner or later, someone WILL come out with a game like this one, only they might have a cleaner product, etc.., and steal players away from OFP.

I'm not saying they aren't in it for the bucks, I'm just saying that BIS has done all the grunt work, and blazed a new trail in gaming, but that won't prevent another company from taking all that, adding a few other items, and making a better game.

I'd rather NOT switch games...I like this game, and I've never seen better support from ANY game company when it comes to communication and patches.

So while I'm sure my wife wishes I would tire of this game, I don't see it happening, I'm just worried about the future for new gamers just discovering it.

  5. Yeah, I have to agree with that, no other game has held me this long before.

I hosted a TFC server, then a DOD server, then a Red Faction server and admitedly, all were MUCH easier to admin, but nowhere near as much fun to play.

The way i look at it, if resistance' netcode is the same as 1.60 in it's current state, I will probably continue hosting a 1.46 server. I've already been through enough headaches dealing with the bugs we've had in the past, and am not really in the mood for more:-) On the other hand, if Resistance is at LEAST as stable and bugfree as 1.46, I'll gladly switch and not look back.

All these things aside though, I recognise that while OFP has been one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played, some of it is because it has so many original features, and an amazing sense of freedom. None of these things are really copyrightable, so if another, larger game company gets it right the first time, with a similar formula, better marketing, and better support for administrators, I'll probably close up shop and move on

    Just my 2c though :-).

  6. Yeah, I had one of those nights awhile back...someone kept adding the same racist comment over and over, so I just started kicking...he didn't get the idea, and kept doing it over and over and over nonstop, so I knew I had the right guy when I kicked, and it stopped:-)

After that, it was just a matter of getting the ID when he rejoined:-)

  7. Well, the description says it all I think...

Is there any way to ID who placed a marker on the map, like on the first briefing screen while everyone is loading? Going from the lack of accountability on the VON, I doubt it, but I have to ask:-)

We've been having a slew of children on the server lately placing racist comments all over the map, and short of randomly kicking people, I'm out of options...

    Any thoughts?

  8. We just have the ingame voice disabled, and host 3 RW channels on a seperate server.

    VoiceOverNet = False

Shame though, becasue the ingame quality is ok, and the ability to use sidechannels, etc..is great, just too many kids spamming comms...

  9. Not many folks with Ded servers launch their servers through anything other than a service, or through the command line.

I just don't know if that program would be worth it if you have to use it to launch the game in order to be seen on it...What does it do that the ASE doesn't?

  10. I agree that VON isnt garbage, though it's implementation is. Until they give us the ability to ID WHO is talking/spamming/playing music/belching over the comms, VON is disabled on my server.

I would LOVE to have it enabled, if only to be able to use the different channels easily, but I can't be randomly kicking players just to find that one 10yearold making the racket.

  11. Yeah, that show was fun to watch, though they were really pushing it with the whole "nurse Betty" bit, lol

It brings back fond memories of running around in full chem gear in 90degree weather with miles gear on during excercises, lol

  12. Yeah, I'm not really concerned with the lag issues anymore, were running a p4 2.2ghz server now, but I still have VON disabled till I can get a way of identifying who is talking..too many kids spamming comms, with no way of telling who it is. We advertise our RW server in the MOTD, and on the front page of our website. At least then we have some control over the kids, and can still have some teamwork.

I'd love to be able to use the built in VON though, if they would just enable some sort of ID system.

  13. yeah, I really should have known that, especially since it;s buried in with all those video settings smile.gif

Really annoying though, I can't bind a specific NIC to this game in the startup, like in HLDS, where you could add a command line switch such as hlds.exe -tfc -208.251.17.94

it's nice that we can specify a port, but ofp still insists on using my other NIC, which is on a different network, so I need to disable it to get OFP to work...grrrr
