I am watching the online video right now and it is indeed again one of BBC's brilliant documentories. The scenario isnt so fictional after all.

I disagree with the result of such polls (I mean the Bushs popularity). Firstly because in the US  companies that collect political-data  are rarely non-profit organisation as it is the case in europe. Hence the one ordering the information/statistics can choose amongst varried companies and pick the one that seems to provide him with the most promising results (and still sound reliable). This was also the reason why we saw so diverse statistics during the last election. Some newspapers even declared Bush as winner before all ballots had been counted (and before people even had an idea about the mess of the counting methods). Why I dont believe that Bush is so popular right now? Because most presidents of the US lost the election after having entered a war. Bush-senior is one of them and he was successful in campaign as well. No I dont believe Bush should stay in power. Whether the americans stay or not is of no importance since Iraq will get the attention it requires. A US-occupying force could easily be substituted by a UN-force (I know that Kabul is smaller than Baghdad). I believe that far more sophisticated decisions could be taken by the UN than by the Bush-administration. This is due to the fact that the UN consists of  a pool of nations which can better sympathise with the Iraqi people and therefore analyse the strenghts, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of potential political modifications. Well you know the term "agglomeration advantages". It would take a long time till the UN would be agreeing on certain issues? Well yes....Iraq is such an old and complicated cultural ecosystems that we all must expecting not less than 10 years of consistent work untill....we see results. I dont know the candidates of the democrats but a little political turnaround would allow the UN to renegotiate with new US-representatives and hopefully improve the relations between the americans and old europe (both sides should have learned their lesson). Bush himself is quite happy about this intercontinental communication gap, he can rule worldwide in his  "JUST DO IT" style. No more burden of having to justify ones actions in front of the world-community.

At what point does a war become a massacre?
Albert Schweitzer replied to Ludovico Technique's topic in OFFTOPIC
Mmmmmhhh. I think Garth was just being sarcastic. Am I the only one who interpreted his post that way? -
goddamn whimps. There are people like me that leave their girlfriend in order to see the world and those soldiers (that even get extra money) complain. I still dont get what is so bad about it. There was a time when soldiers lost motivation the longer they were out of action!

Any war is always training for the next one. Why did the allied forces in WWIII continue bombing cities (especially in France) after occuping forces already retreated? Simply to bring Moral-bombing to its perfectionism. The chainsaw example is inadequate. You might have a chainsaw in the one hand but in the other you have nothing better than a knife. In the end you have to kill the baby to get the candy. The term "war" itself sets death as the successive target. -
I have been discussing about the two weapon systems lately. But unfortunately I am just a wannabe in this area and I ask myself the question why a new system like the wiesel uses the TOW system if the Javelin appears to be the newer and more modern AA rocket (and not chained). What differentiates the two. What is about their range? Do they heavily varie in costs. What are the advantages and disadvantages. How would a tank with a Tow fight against a ordinary Abrams? Silly questions but I just wanna know!

Oh may I just mention that there are arab companies that indeed are world-leaders in terms of logistics. I had a two months course in negotiation skills with a french guy who worked for SHELL, and he said that. Jawohl! (oh..ust ignore me...I am being bored)

Surprising enough that the first satelite photos have guided you to a trailer park with empty caravans. Since one of them had a chemical toilet the US-inspectors assumed that is was once a chemical-lab and that the chlorine was being used to get rid of any proofs. Yes, sure! Before Saddam had to leave Iraq he was very eager cleaning up evidence. He was in a hurry to steal money from the banks but he thought: "may the people know that I steal money but we gotta clean that lab, I dont want anyone to know that I had WMDs.

the crowds are cheering while the american liberators drive through the streets of the liberated city. A little child reaches out to kiss a soldier on his cheeks. 300 soldiers of the national guard were killed in the battle while no civillians were injured, only a farmer complained that a bullet flattened the tires of his truck. Yeah right... dream on. Some of the poeple here are constanlty stoned from a drug called propaganda.
-
Nonesense...they gonna get new Burgerkings and McDonald Restaurants instead.... No, we are talking about real casualties here and the issue is indeed worth enough to mention. The battle of Nasirija had comparable results...when a track of civillians tried to escape they did the mistake and chose the bridge. When they ran into a Marine-infanterist he got scared and opened fire. 12 people dead, More than a half of them were children. Wait a few more weeks and it will turn into a Vietnam when Civillians are gonna be considered as anoying interruders that are no longer worth to stop a battle for.

BTW: for paladin and the rest of the Sauerkraut gang. Here is a link to a map that is updated every hour and gives information about where and how is fought right now. Kind of simplistic but considering the amount of news that there are this is all you can get. DER SPIEGEL, map of IRAQ war, constantly updated oh and go to fullscreen mode to see the other modes...

There was a large Union Jack on one of the vehicules. All vehicules were UK-standard. The pilot undertook two attacks and didnt notice. What the hell can be his justification? TOP-NOTCH-PEA-BRAIN! I bet you will see no real trial for this guy...and even if there is one he will be suspended, thats about it! Maybe they should mark the coalition vehicules with "good guys" and the iraqi trucks and tanks with "bad guys"
