  2. Like Tovarish said, dont let CEM frighten you. I believe you can get a good bit of extra speed out of your ride with certain aircraft if you use CEM smile.gif

I personally fly on normal settings. I used to fly full real, but I kept getting lost tounge.gif

It's really wrecking the game for me. I was chasing a I-16 and as soon as I was in range of the AAA I was toast. Now I was at 420km/hr and manouvering hard for the kill. No way a gunner is going to hit me like that on the first barrage. I saw the first tracer then I was hit. And it's like that all the time. Now the AAA in IL2 was useless, but FB went too far the other way. My campaign has come to a standstill because nothing can penitrate the AAA around the cities.

I agree 100%. Believe it or not, it can get even worse. Try a Stuka campaign... crazy.gif

  4. I'm going to be getting a cable modem soon. Maybe we should all set up some cooperative matches with our fellow forum members? I believe it was suggested earlier in this thread, but I dont remember the response the idea got...

  5. WoOt! I just shot down that ace in the P39 smile.gif

It took me four tries, but I think I got lucky... he attempted to run for some reason, even though he had all his ammo left. Maybe he just wanted to put some distance between us so he could turn around, I dunno. I was flying a BF109F4.

I tried to fight that ace who flies a LA7, but I got roxxored sad.gif I was using the FW190A5, but he got me with relative ease.

  6. *bursts into tears*

I admit it! I threw the bit about the P47 in there so nobody would notice my Luftwhining in defense of the FW190! Even with the Me262 available, I still love the FW190!

I really dont think the FW190's stall characteristics are represented realisticly. It should, according to several sources I've seen, stall in a completely different manner than what is currently seen. But perhaps those sources were false, I can never be sure. I just hope Oleg changes the FW190's stall characteristics in the upcoming patch.

  7. The only player controlled flight models that I've personally had problems with are the P47 and FW190. The P47 goes into stalls far too easily, as does the FW190 (especially the A8 variant, from my experience)

I've also heard on the other forums that the Hurricane FM might be messed up, but I'm not sure.

Hmm... the end of April, eh... hopefully I'll have my cable or DSL hooked up by then, because I expect this patch to be a whopper smile.gif

  8. I understand that Tovarish, and I'm not questioning the Yak3's combat abilities.  It was an excellent fighter, perhaps the best of WWII.  Its the AI that bothers me.

Last night I engaged a Yak3 at 7500 meters.  I was flying a FW190D9, and I simply could not shake him.  I tried an immelman, several hammerheads, and then after five minutes I simply dived with a slight turn, so he ran out of ammo trying to hit me.  All the AI does is constantly turn directly towards my aircraft.  They never lose sight of me, and follow me straight through clouds.  And they NEVER EVEN STALL!  They will have the little smokey trails from their wingtips and everything, but they remain in control of their aircraft under any circumstances.  If this was changed, and the AI could actually stall, then it'd make the AI much more vulnerable, and IMO realistic.

And sadly, its not only the late war Yak fighters that fight this way. I've been unable to shake Lagg3 1941 models as well. MiG3's too. I can understand being OUTTURNED by a I16 or other small nimble fighter, but it doesnt seem to be the turning that is the problem. Its the all around flight behavior of their aircraft.

I'm also not doubting that this "perfect" AI works for both sides, not only Soviet aircraft.

  9. I've come to the conclusion that the bomber AI and the enemy FM's are what really need looking in to. I dont consider myself a Luftwhiner, but its physically impossible for my FW190 to get a Yak9 (or god forbid, a Yak 3) off my tail. I get shredded when I'm flying hammerheads, and the only way I can get them off my tail is to make them run out of ammo. It seems cheap, but its gotten me alot of kills so far smile.gif

Online I hear that you can simply boom and zoom and the FW190 accels in that aspect, but thats nearly impossible to do against AI. They just constantly climb up to your altitude, and wont get off your tail no matter what crazy.gif

And I agree with Badgerboy, the bombers need a bit of polish until they can fully be used to their full potential.

  10. Well I restarted my campaign as a German pilot. Now I'm doing the Central campaign, and I changed it so I'll get a FW190 as soon as its available, and use it for the rest of the war smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

I've come to the conclusion that I16's are invulnerable to the MG17 rounds. I dont mean highly tolerant, I mean completely invulnerable. I've seen BF110's and BF109's empty their entire load into an I16's wings without so much as a scratch...

  12. Something really cool I found while browsing through the FB files...

There is a file called "DGen_Readme.txt" in the DGen directory which is inside your Forgotten Battles folder.  In this file, there are instructions on how to modify your Dynamic Campaign, such as increasing air traffic or ground units, the average distance flown to get to your targets, and overall campaign difficulty.

    Cool stuff smile.gif

  13. ALright, I found out what was going on with my plane's engines. Apparently, the BF109 series is equipped with a Variable Pitch Propellor. It says that the propellor automatically adjusts for any changes that should be made for the prop to work at maximum efficency.

However, it also states that you can manually set the prop pitch with this model. But it also gives a warning that doing so may result in the engine over-revving. So I assume thats what its been doing. smile.gif

  14. Bah... Tovarish, I've been flying under full real for a few days now (no speed bar or crap like that tounge.gif )

Let me go into detail about what happens...

Alright, I'm at 1000 feet... or meters, whatever, just cruising along at 300 knots.  I have the prop pitch set to default, meaning I havent messed with it yet.  The throttle is at maybe 80%.

Now I enable 100% prop pitch.  Right away, the engine sound's pitch goes off the charts.  It just gets higher and higher, until you cant hear it anymore.  I get the message "Engine overheating!" or something, but on my actual instrument panel my engine temperature is well within the normal range.  This is what I find so strange...

The plane I'm flying is a BF109G6.  It doesnt have any fancy boost system, and it can engage its engine at 110% power for short times, but not without overheating the engine.  I've also had this "bug" occur with the BF109K4 and the FW190D9.  The BF109K4 has that MW50 system, so it should be able to get a boost at any altitude.

Just try that Tovarish.  Take a BF109G6, and set prop pitch to 100%, and engine power to maybe 80 to 100%.  See if anything happens for you, perhaps by actually seeing what happens you can understand better than me trying to describe it.  Because after reading what I've wrote, it sounds pretty confusing tounge.gif

  15. I think I found a bug...

When flying a Messerschmit (sp?), and you set the prop pitch to 100%, your engine goes REALLY fast, then the sound cuts out, then your engine overheats and fails in seconds.  If you are unlucky, sometimes the plane just explodes in midair. Was this an occurance in reality, or just a little bug?

And I miss my FW190 damn it!  This BF109G6 sucks ass!  I've made like 5 kills in 10 missions!   mad.gif

  16. Oh definently get Forgotten Battles. Forgotten Battles is like a sequel to the original IL2, except FB has EVERYTHING included from the original. So if you dont purchase the original IL2, you wont be missing out on anything, since FB has it all. smile.gif

  17. Alright, I'm going to cry. I just completed the Kuban campaign, which was a follow up from Stalingrad. Now we are in... Bele-something, and its late 1943. I was expecting to be upgraded to the FW190A5, but what aircraft do they give me? The danged BF109G6... that thing is not fun at all...

  18. The way I see it, theres a huge difference between Joe burning a flag in his field with a bunch of his friends, and Joe the Meanie tearing up the PARTICULAR flags in question.

I dont want to go into this topic too deeply, as I'll no doubt hurt peoples feelings or just get my sorry ass banned. So I'll try to explain my feelings on the matter...

The American flag isnt just a flag of our nation. Like any other nation, it has a value to that countries citizens. I'm not sure if the American flag inspires America's citizens any more than any other countries flag would inspire its citizens, but...

Denoir, in my opinion, there is a huge difference between burning a nonexistant neo-nazi flag, and burning the American flag. And remember, it was not only the flag that was trashed, an entire memorial was destroyed. THAT is blatant disrespect to the dead.

I could personally care less about a burning American flag UNDER REASONABLE CIRCUMSTANCES, but there are times to utilize freedom of speech, and there are times when you should not.
