I also wish that machine guns (M-60,PK) were more accurate I wish that weapons in Mi-24 Hind were more accurate and powerful I wish hey change the East M2 model to the one in Russian boat I wish that G36a's power is reduced, one shot one kill is not realistic I wish they add at least one scoped assault rifle for Russians This topic indeed has lots of good additions that would make the game more realistic and enjoyable. Since these are only small additions, I guess, it shouldn't be so hard for BIS' elite coders . OFP is still in my three best games list even if no addons are made (Thief series/OFP/Half-Life).<span id='postcolor'> 1) isn't that BMP now used for the BMP2? 2) Boat thing, yeah 3) Machine guns are ok. 4) Its an ok balance, I find 5) Yeah 6) One shot one kill IS realistic - until it gets to Delta Force levels with lethal fingernail hits. A slight tone down but nothing huge would be needed on this. 7) Yeah. (Thief/OFP/Halflife) ? Thief and OFP are easily worth the place there but Halflife?!? I am truly shockedat that! The many other deserving games could use that slot. Ah well, at least you don't seem to be a HL fanboy who think its from God or something

You can't do it without triggering FADE on the backup. Legality of it? Not sure, really. 1 CD per PC (for CD check), but after its loaded you can pull the CD out and start on the next PC

I once saw a guy in an M1 take out an enemy in a Trabant in 1.3 multiplayer - it went flying and hit a Hind

the original content isn't in the addons folder - only the Upgrade pack content (If you have American Release, that includes Upgrades 1&2 which includes the Apache)

I'm not a great fan of large mod teams without direction. If I joined a mod team, I'd have others stepping on my toes and saying things like "Oh, move that base, I need it 1km east for mission 5" and someone else saying "Nah, move it a touch south" and "that hill is too big" etc. etc. Islands that aren't tied into campaigns can have stuff that would mess up the campaign - it also means that I have more freedom to do it. I don't have dramatic ideas and I don't want to be part of something thats ruined by the "artistic vision" and "quality control" of the project leader. I want to put out cool islands for others to do what they want with. Also, I'm a compulsive fiddler - although my current idea was for a large hilly landscape (but not mountainous) with "summer" and "winter" versions. Having to create a campaign simply to be able to make new locations is a bit over the top. MrCrispPacket has written down EXACTLY what my opinion is in that last post of his.

"If they had released it to anyone then there would be too many different models of the same thing like SA80, huey etc." True, but the best would soon be used above the average ones. Missions would bundle them or link to them, so nothing would really be affected. "Also for people that are lucky enough to have a fast enough connection to play online, it would mean everybody would have to download shitloads of addons to play" Not really, as all it takes is a bit of intelligence to use only a few and mention it before the game - its no different than complaining that the OH-58 is useless and increased the size of Upgrade 3 for no reason.

I'm not going to make a major mod - I never planned to. I just intended to make a good new island. This, as I said before, leaves me totally in the pisser. I probably wouldn't get given Visitor as I don't have a hugely flashy site, or a large team and nobody would grant it to some nutter with a dodgy map on a crumpled bit of paper. It stops ideas and mods getting off the ground. If I got given it, everybody would. At that point, it would show that it should be for free download. If an average OFP fan like me can't get it, then a gap will be created in the community between those who can and those who can't. With a fractured community, no game will last, even if its one of the best out there. Basically, whatever crap is cut out is offset by the lack of people giving it a try and creating something good.
-
Hey, I DID plan at one point on making a Skoda Favorit estate (with ability to sit in the boot ) but decided I was too bad at 3d graphics to do more than admire that I could do anything at all I considered applying for Visitor, but nobody would grant it to some nutter with a dodgy map on a crumpled bit of paper. It stops ideas getting off the ground. Most of the crap wouldn't be released and even less of it used. Mods don't tarnish the name if they're free and have the "THIS IS UNOFFICIAL AND NOT MADE OR SUPPORTED BY BIS OR CM" line in it.
-
Unfortunately, in amongst the tonnes of crap, a lot of good stuff will be lost. I already had a map worked out ready for Visitor (I'm not the 3D graphics kind of person) and that I won't get it because its limited to large scale semi-pro mods (such as Operation Vietnam and I44) is a bit of a pisser. I could understand the logic in them releasing it to the large teams first, but a general release can only help the community. Waiting until after Resistance? Fair enough, if they want to do that I don't mind, but there's only so many times you can retexture Malden. I don't really see the reasoning behind this, as any mod having "THIS IS UNOFFICIAL AND NOT MADE OR SUPPORTED BY BIS OR CM" should do the trick of having the crap blamed on the mod makers rather than BIS. "There are (and will be) enough serious teams looking to do great addons to keep the community happy. " Sometimes there's nothing like getting in and doing it yourself. Only then will you fully realise how f***ing good the original game is. I'm an extremely amateur mod maker, I've knocked up a couple of config.cpp's and a scripted cutscene so far and I plan to make a decent couple of missions for OFP, I've already got half a DromED (Thief II) project going and I was really hyped about Visitor. For an example of how important extra mod-making power is, look at Thief and its sequel. Its quite an old game but there are 2 major mods for Thief II and hundreds of high quality fan missions out there - Dromed, the editor for it, is extremely powerful and was bundled with instructions on how to retexture and a tool that imports static objects and another for AIs (although the AI importer was for Maya files, so it took a LONG time for anyone to use). If Looking Glass hadn't released Dromed openly, would we have seen Benny's Dead, a plot driven highly original mission that is widely thought of as being better than many original missions? Probably not. Another comparison is the upcoming RPG Morrowind, its editor forum has thousands of posts so far and many projects, big and small (including one by me) underway. One or two are receiving assistance from Bethesda Softworks, but they aren't giving it only to major projects - its good for a new character or for a new world and they're recognising that. Lots of guys have made missions in advance of Red Hammer, with these tools we could push the game yet further. Scifi crap? Sure, some guy might add it - but you don't need to get it if you don't want to. Thats the whole point of mods. rpc007, the current thing, the P3D2OBJ hack, doesn't do all of the features of the P3D file so you can only make minor alterations (MP5 without the silencer for example). Although, if stuff isn't released I could see that being improved on. We're desperate for it and I don't like being manipulated like a a crack addict by a dealer. Just a few thoughts.

You can order online at places like www.ebworld.com but YOU AREN'T GOING TO DOWNLOAD IT. Hey, mods, get ovar here PLEASE. AFAIK, its all the same model, so no. The gun, yes, but not the graphic of it.

bit pointless in OFP really...

I can already do that with the Kolgujev mountain and a jeep.

Which turn based strategy game did you enjoy most?
ACT SMILEY replied to Ex-RoNiN's topic in OFFTOPIC
MOO2BAA all the way, that game is a CLASSIC. Its well balanced and great fun. Sucks up time like nothing else (except for Elite 3: Frontier: First Encounters) -
" aaahm a patrieeyt" - Vinnie, Deus Ex (in the bar, before the superfreighter) ! GR sounds are pathetic, yes.
-
While the Resistance expansion seems to be a 1985-based one, Independence Lost seems to be based in 2002 - read the fake newspaper on the site. Guessing from that its probably a seperate game based around OFP's engine.
-
hmm.... I just hope codemasters dont make an even worse mess of the plot than they did with Red Hammer. ( an ex-spetznatz infantry guy starts commanding a tank against guys with guns that weren't used until 5 years later!? Come on, even I could do better! ) *wait, Coldwarflashpoint.com tells me its a BIS update! Sensible and working plotline here we come!
-
the models in it are quite lifeless and the animations floaty when compared to OFP. They breathe, but not like a human breathes, it looks fake. OFP's well animated, but slightly chunky models are better, in my opinion. Its also the terrible control system that makes GR feel unresponsive.
-
physics. I don't want these bouncy vehicles! I mean, what kinda suspention do you need for THAT! Heck, you can even shoot down low flying helis by hitting a Trabant with the M1
-
Its the break in mission in the original. Took me about an hour. With 1.1! Yeah, they SAW me! none of that 1.0 lack of vision!

They changed the name back to Coco Pops though, I thought
