I'm still getting horrible texture swapping/loading/switching For example: I was playing a LAN game of Warfare, I was commander. I built a supply truck and any time I went near it my FPS halved, If I walked 50 meters away from it FPS went back to normal. I had a look around the truck and it seemed as though all the textures had loaded. Then I got in the truck and the textures had not loaded for the dash board/steering wheel. I went for a drive around just to see how long it would take all the textures to load(still lagging, harddisk thrashing away). About 3-5 minutes after I built the truck the textures for the inside finally finished loading and my FPS went back to normal. This can happen with anything; Buildings, vehicles, wrecks, guns, uniforms etc etc. I have tried with -maxmem512 and with no -maxmem, no difference. What is going on here? Its really frustrating to have a pc that can play the game at full settings, never going less than 25 FPS (mostly around 40) and to have this texture swapping issue ruining it. Specs Intel C2Q9300 4gb DDR2 8500 9800GTX 512mb Creative XFi extreme music XP64bit Pro on a positive note, this patch is very good. New units look excellent and the new mission is fantastic. thank you.

I am having Texture/Lod loading issues with my new pc. Couple of questions about -maxmem=command does this command relate to video card memory or system memory? eg if I have 4gb of RAM should I set it higher than someone with 2 gig of RAM? or should I set it to the size of my GFX card RAM? which is 512. Also, slightly related, What does the new textures option, "Default", do? In what situations should this be used, is it lower quality than the highest texture setting? Specs ------- core 2 quad 9300 4gb ram 9800gtx 512mb All settings high/v.high, frame rate is good all the time (avg 35) except when this LOD switching/texture loading starts

My old specs where CPU : 3500@2.5 3gb ram Nforce 3 mobo AGP 7800GS 256mb XP64bit never used Maxmem commands performance on this setup improved between patches. Although i did have to have most settings on low. I have now upgraded. Q2C Q9300 2.5ghz 4gb ram Nforce 780i mobo PCIE 9800GTX 512mb XP64bit haven't used maxmem commands yet (dunno what to set it too 512 or 4096?) I seem to be able to whack up almost all settings to V.high/high and run @1600x1200. But I am getting performance issues over time. For example: I set up a test mission with an ACOG in the south and with very high settings I am getting 72 fps max (monitor Hz). Ill scan around a bit and the fps will fluctuate between 60 and 45. Then ill go prone and look over a bush towards a forest with my scope and the frame rate will drop to maybe 25 /30, fair enough. I get back up, run around, scope a few more bushes etc in the distance. then go back to that first bush, scope it and my frames could drop to as low as 19/11. If I look around a bit then look at it again FPS might go up. If I leave it scoped and switch to GFX options and change a setting like textures/shaders to LOW then back to Very High I resume the game and my frame rate goes back up to 25/30+. also, one time my frame rate took a massive hit (from 60s to 30s) after scoping some things. I Looked around my position and some of the textures for fences, buildings, even my own uniform was like the textures were only half loaded and not at there full details. It wouldn't go away with out reloading the mission. A similar problem that i feel is relates to the above is Random FPS drop when transitioning from no scope view, to scope view and from scoped view to no scope view. my frames will drop from 60s to 30s then back to 60's once has finished the transition. This also happens with simply zooming an area and unzooming, and with Iron site view transition. seems like there are some issues with the texture LODing and players view. like when you scope/zoom view an area it loads lower res textures for the areas immediately around you (that are now out of your view) and when you go back to normal view it loads back the high res full LOD textures. Anyway, sorry for the long winded post but I am kind of disappointed, since upgrading, with Arma's performance, especially when I know I can run almost every setting at max and get 60-70 fps in the north. If anyone has any help they could give me that would be great. i know there are a lot of posts about 8800 series GFX cards and before i upgraded i just ignored then, so its possible some one already knows how to fix/improve my problem. cheers

I (and pretty sure a lot of others) am still awaiting a proper CTI based on MFCTI or CRCTI. Which is pretty much all I played on OFP, I really miss it :/ I predict one of these days a CTI mission will be released that will surpass Evolution and the PvP servers, in popularity. CTI has it all, great Coop and great PvP. When mixed with mods it can be very cool. The best CTI Variant I have played was the BW DVD Clean Rock CTI Using German units such as Leopard2A6, T95 and that tank guzzling Tiger gunship oh yes. Until then I continue to play Evo, which I am still not bored of thanks to the new "South" and the MHQ versions.

I have seen some thing similar to this. Myself and my friend play with two pcs right beside each other. I have noticed a few times when we are playing online that some of the messages he types I some times cant see, the same for txt typed by other players on the server.. This also happens vice versa and with Global, Side and Vehicle chat. I always thought it was to do with lag. We dont play enough on LAN to know if it occurs there too.

great patch thanks. I have noticed that since 1.11 the run bug seems to be back though, when going from the full sprint to prone action

I presume who ever wrote the 1.09 uninstaller knows what files where accidentally removed? Could anyone please tell me what file needs to be replaced to get the Armory working again? thanks I know ppl are probably like, "who cares its just the armory", but I use it to test new addons and also mainly to test fps/performance when new patch etc is release. Its a useful consistent benchmark.
-
Can anyone tell me which file i need to copy back in to get the armory working again? is it armory.pbo or some thing? thanks did a bit more playing with the patch yesterday on EVO online. man, it was great when the SU33 tried to strafe me with his rockets, frightened the crap out of me . is that a 109 or 111 change?
-
Luckily I have another pc beside me with Arma, that I have not updated yet. So I was able to copy the offending A10.pbo and BiSign back over to this pc. Seems to be OK now. Although I cant access the Armory, no error msg, just click the Armory button and nothing happens. Is that normal? Tested out the A10 in editor. Rudder seems better, still not quite up to LockOn standard, but at least it has some usable yaw at speed now

well why did they say this then "It is recommended to uninstall older beta patches before installing this new beta patch." http://community.bistudio.com/wiki....HE_BETA ================= grrrr, not impressed. Just tried to run my normal none beta ARMA and getting the same crap about 'CAA10'. How can the beta have modified the original arma install??? its just a freeking mod folder isnt it? it doesnt touch anything to do with the original arma install? hope i can get this resolved soon
-
I'm getting this too. I ran the 1.09 installer, which said it completed the uninstall in about a second. I checked to see if it had uninstalled, but all the 109 beta stuff was still there. when i run the uninstaller now it says there is no beta installed. so i just deleted the 109 beta folder and ran the 1.11 beta installer. Now i get the caa10 is missing error when i run the game or try to load a mission. exact error on loading the game is : "Addon 'CA_Hotfix' requires addon 'CAA10'"

Great to see this mod is being worked on, no matter how it was released. I was a big fan of the ECP mod for Flashpoint, It added so much to the game. A couple things id like to mention though. Some of the sounds are very good. The tank machine guns and personal weapons are nice, but i find most of the explosions and the sound from other peoples weapons are very muddy and indistinguishable. I guess im just hooked on chammys sound mod. It would be awesome if you guys could maybe contact him about including his sounds? Performance: I downloaded the full version (non lite) of the mod. I tested it out while playing Evolution online. My FPS seemed about the same as it always does for about the 1st hour of play then it just seemed to halve. This has happened a few times now online (I haven't played it for long enough on single player to know if its just an online issue). I tried to turn of everything from the ECS menu but it made no diff. I also noticed that after i turned off the options for radio chatter for vehicles/AI etc, I could still here them. Anyway, there are a lot more positives to this mod than negatives, so keep up the good work.

True, that is one annoying problem with it. Similar to AA soldiers shooting at UAZs. Now there ain't no real world soldier would do that.
-
I don't mind so much having an RPG fired at me, it is after all a grenade. And I believe in real life ( I know "insurgents" etc do it) RPG soldiers may well fire upon troops if they can hit them/take out several enemies. I don't think it would be USA military discipline though to shoot antitank rockets at infantry, maybe if they were in a building or the AT soldier had some kind of anti bunker/frag rocket. Perhaps some military service people could answer this. Hey, just out of interest/fun, whats the longest range you have been fired at in ARMA by an AI with an RPG? I have been taken out by one at about a range of 500-600m. Seems the AI have more faith in there rockets than there AK at that range. I really wish the AI would engage with there AKs at this range instead of just going prone and looking in your direction waiting to be shot lol. PK gunners have a bit more balls though.
-
Yes, this great news. Interesting about the rudder control and AI pathfinding, that will be a nice added bonus. I don't mind the proposed 2nd beta, much better to make sure nothing bad results because of the changes. If all goes well with this beta I don't see why it shouldn't be released fairly shortly.

CSM Beta v2 quick teaser preview
-=seany=- replied to chammy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Great news, really looking forward to this. Thanks for keeping at it Chammy. I never load up ArmA without CSM running -
heh heh yeah , I was thinking it must be pretty sweet for that

I was wondering is there any way to increase the FOV for the inside of vehicles permanently, particularly air vehicles? I find the FOV in the camel, for example, way to close to the cockpit. If you push the minus key on the num pad to "Zoom out" it looks a bit better (I would like it slightly further back than this though). Is there anyway to make the FOV be permanently zoomed out?
-
Thanks, I'll try these things. I have a thumb slider on my X52, I could use that for zoom, I hope.
-
have you tried the maxmem= commands in the shortcut? if your using it, remove it. I have 2gb and using it just causes crashes and possibly lag. however, if your not using it, I suggest you try maxmem=2048 in your Arma shortcut. eg "C:\Program Files (x86)\Games\ArmA\arma.exe" -maxmem=2048 the command seems to behave differently for different configs/pcs, so while it makes mine crash, it may make yours work. ahhhh computers you gotta love 'em

Aha, yes you are right it is much better in the new patch. thank you BIS , now if they can just fix that other problem with map and movement using the arrow keys ill be sorted. Shadowy / OldFossil: What? don't give me that, I like my simulations as much as the next simguy. This was a filthy bug, which is why it was fixed... The thing with real life is.. if I want to stop at a specific point ahead of me (even when fully laden), I start stopping earlier. My legs don't continue to run beyond the point I wanted them to stop at lol And Shadowy : "estimate the distance..." lol it was completely random when it happened and for how long it lasted, I had "learned" to estimate it, and it was a pain in this ass. PS, which is why they fixed it. I swear some of you enjoy being irritated by bugs that can be easily fixed in games....Sadists. meh, its fixed now anyway
-
Probably the most annoying bug in day to day use of Arma is the Sprint bug. Where you sprint, release the key and your soldier continues to sprint for 6 more steps before stopping. This also happens when pressing the "go prone" key from a sprint, your soldier continues to sprint several steps then goes prone. Sure, we can "learn to live with it", but these are the kind of bugs that really irritate because it makes you feel like your not in control of your player, which is very bad for any FPS game. And given the unforgiving nature of a lot Arma missions (one shot = game over) this is even more unacceptable. One other annoying bug, that only effects Arrow Key users, is that opening the Map stops control over the player/player's vehicle. So I cant be jogging/driving along and glance at the map without coming to a stop then having to close the map and re tap the Up Arrow key to start moving forward again. This is nothing to do with realism, its just a stupid bug. WSAD key users can use the map while moving, just like in OFP. Why cant Arrow key users?

your specs are quite similar to mine. in what way is it better than 1.08, what did it improve? was it paging issues or fps increase? thanks xp64, Athlon64 3500+, 2GB Ram in dual-channel, GeForce 7800GS 256MB AGP.

Cold War Rearmed v0.36 released
-=seany=- replied to raedor's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This a really nice surprise, had no idea it was coming out. Thanks very much it's great fun and I don't feel so bad now about removing OFP . I am having a bit of a problem with the bushes and grass though. The town in the "3 Officers" is really killing my FPS. I go into a building and its fine, but step outside and my fps drops by half or more. -
