ARMA 2: OA beta build 85680
-=seany=- replied to buliwyf's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I don't run the server so I have no idea. I was under the impression that the server did not have to run the beta for the client to see improvements in this area? There is a difference for sure, so just the client running the beta does have an effect on what you see online, with regards warping. Monty Python much? -
ARMA 2: OA beta build 85680
-=seany=- replied to buliwyf's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Don't know if its worth posting this but, just wanted to say that having used the beta for a couple of weeks with the teleporting / interpolation fixes, this is how things are for me. AI Infantry - seem about the same, may be slightly less warping. AI Tracked Vehicles- just as bad except now instead of jumping backwards they "reverse"/slide backwards when they teleport. Some times they also stop moving and begin rising nose first into the air, then warp backwards. AI Wheeled Vehicles- Same as Pre-beta AI Helos- Same as pre-beta Human helos- Slightly better, probably the best of all. I admit my tests come from a Domination mission with large numbers of AI, maybe such servers will always lag like a bugger with 35 + people on. But still, I don't want any one to say when the patch is released; "No one said". I have to say that all of the above are better up to a certain point, eg fewer players on the server. But is it the server failing when more people join or is it the network code of the game? It's easy to say it is the server but I have to wonder to be honest. -

Does this mean it wont take 6 5.56 rounds to kill someone at 300m away? -

Should be interesting to see how this works. Buliwyf:  <- you do know what that smiley means right? -
I don't really get the point of that list. It's full of things that are just not going to be in the game. May as well just put : I want every nato/russian vehicle/weapon/aircraft in the game.

I would actually pay for a "Winter Chernarus" DLC/expansion with those suggestions in the two posts above. Lots of very nice stuff could be done if it was official. Proper winter Sky's/ weather and snow precipitation effects etc.
-
Snowy Chernarus would be really nice. Not quite as simple as Winter Everon etc though I guess. I think the most atmospheric missions I ever played in OFP where winter missions.
-
Nice work, thanks. Is there a version for Takistan or other islands? It looks like some island other then Chernarus in your screen shots.

this is too funny :icon_lol:

Over Powering/Blinding Bloom on Arrowhead Terrain needs to be toned down
-=seany=- replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I have to do some proper repo, but it may be a result of "movie day filter" module that is causing it. however, I do feel I have seen it with standard lighting at certain times of day though. -
Over Powering/Blinding Bloom on Arrowhead Terrain needs to be toned down
-=seany=- posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Can we have Overpowering Bloom Toned down in the next patch, Please? Or Give us this fix http://dev-heaven.net/issues/3718 ? Let me start by saying I love post effects; Bloom, HDR, DoF, Motion Blur, blurring. I like all of these..to a certain degree. But recently the over powering bloom in OA that comes from the ground/sand is annoying the hell out of me. I never complained about the glowing cows, vehicles or barns etc in Arma2 (Chernarus). In fact it was kind of amusing. But this...glowing ground/sand is not amusing at all. In fact it make me swear, a lot. I know most of you will just say to turn it off, but as we all know I can't turn bloom off with out losing every other post process effect too. Besides, I don't want to...I Like the bloom effect, it's just way over the top on terrain surfaces in OA. I also see that http://dev-heaven.net/issues/3718 has been set to Next Gen...why? It has nothing to do with the abilities of the engine. The only reason that bis would not want to give us these controls, as far as I can see, is artistic opinion..eg some one at BIS believes they have hit the "sweet spot" with the Bloom settings and it is exactly how they think it should be. I have included some screen shots showing how bad this can be. If they wont give us the controls to set it how we like, then can we please have it toned back a bit so the terrain is not blinding us with sun glare? I have made a new ticket to have bloom turned down since there is no point in adding to http://dev-heaven.net/issues/3718, they have already made up their mind on that.. I just want to play the game...not a fancy screen shot generator... http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/14338/Bloom1.jpg http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/14339/Bloom2.jpg http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/14340/Bloom3.jpg http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/14341/Bloom4.jpg http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/14342/Bloom5.jpg http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/14336/Bloom6.jpg http://dev-heaven.net/attachments/14337/Bloom7.jpg Vote to Have Bloom Toned Down Here: http://dev-heaven.net/issues/24891 -

Do different player models affect how easily the AI can detect you? Eg ghillie suit? Didn't know that. -

I'd like to help test this, but I can't if I don't know what is to be expected and what is not...anyone? Preferably a developer? -
Tab lock has advantages. Eg when you are commanding a tank, or any vehicle for that matter, it is much easier to get the AI gunner to target a specific target using TAB than it it to go through the F2+2+0+2 (for Eg). I'm pretty sure this is why it was implemented in the first place. The fact that you can solo in an KA52 an spam guided AT missiles is a negative side affect. Well, not even really a negative to me, but I can see how it would make the gunships etc way too powerful/unfair in PVP. I used to think it was a difficulty option, but I don't think it is. It would be nice if people has the option to disable it. But I don't think its a good idea to get rid of it totally due to my first statement^

Two computer's cannot connect to one server.
-=seany=- replied to BLSmith2112's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Sorry I can't be of more help. But just to let you know that I have a similar setup (2 pcs behind the same DSL router with 1 external IP). And both can connect ok to the same internet servers. Just letting you know that it is possible, so keep at it. I haven't had to forward ports or anything like that. If I think of anything else I'll let you know. -
Amazing blood effects that should be in Arma 3

Impressive video, I too would like the option to have more gore/improved wounding. But I also agree BIS probably have no interest unfortunately. -
ARMA 2: OA beta build 84580
-=seany=- replied to carlostex's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I am having some difficulty testing this. I have been testing it on TAW's Taki domination server. Some times it seems better, but other times, especially at new AO it is just as bad as ever, with units teleporting forward 100m at a time, human and AI choppers falling out of the sky, units running on the spot etc. Is it unrealistic to expect this to run better all the time, or are there some situations where it will still be possible to break it by "over loading" the game. The mission they run is pretty demanding. And I have often wondered with this server, if it gets too close to what the Arma engine is realistically able to cope with. With the previous beta(84467) at one point on a new AO the warping was as bad as every and never got better for the rest of the AO (after which I left so I don't know what the following AO was like), It was like the interpolation suddenly "turned off" and never came back. I have been reluctant to give feedback based on this. Eg it would be pointless for me to play on a server where I had a +300ms ping and then complain on here that it is still warping. I'm guessing the interpolation only smooths things out to a certain extent. can too High ping or overly complex coop missions break the interpolation? (The ping thing is just an example, I never play on servers with more than 150ms ping) -

3rd person and crosshair - enable by default in MP?
-=seany=- replied to celery's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
How many times does it have to be said that the server owner should know what difficulty they want there server to use? Do you think they run PVP and online servers with 3rd and crosshairs by accident? Changing the default setting wont change how people play the game.... (This is also the reason why some idiots think it would be a good idea to remove 3rd from the game, to force people to play how they want...I mean really...) If servers have 3rd enabled....its because (OMG shock!) They WANT IT ON! Just leave it alone FFS. Changing the default difficulty will not make people play the game the way you want it to be played..I mean come on... just think about it... Why don't all you who have such a boner for ultra realism just start your own server with the rules you want? Ps this isn't an attack on you, it's to all who share the same opinion in this thread. Pps. the Default setting (as with any computer program) should be what most people use. Most people use third and cross-hairs..so nothing needs changing. -
I agree, they really are milking that Games com video

Still warping / Network Lagging

Sensationalized posting anyone? It is better, but it's hardly solved. There is still plenty of warping -

Patch 1.60 - The Good News and The Bad News
-=seany=- replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I was afraid the bad news was going to be that interpolation is not as effective as was hoped. But if it is more time you need, that's fine. If this gets fixed it will be major mile stone for the RV engine. Thanks for the info. -
Not even a couple of new screen shots? Did we really need a week long, hype building count down for a web site redesign? The site is nice, but everyone who goes on there is just going to look for (expecting) new material, of which there is none. Ps it's Desalinator not "water de-salter" :p
