Arma beta patch 1.09 - released

Above all I'm really glad to see the fog is now fixed on my 8800, great job guys!

    Chammys Sound Mod

I'm not trying to kick over the smoldering log and get the fire roaring again but I am curious, is there any chance that we'll see this mod released prior to Christmas? Sorry to kick up the dust again folks but this really is a great mod and I'm really just wondering if there is any word on the next version. Thanks.

Arma mission makers, how much do you play?

I've been working on my first mission for months now so I'm not sure if my input is a good gauge for the talented mission makers out there. I can say that I do play the mission a fair amount just to see how its progressing but actually making it through the mission is something I haven't tried to do for months now. I spend more time viewing combat elements via camera.sqs as well as spawn in different areas just to see how the AI is working and if the immersion factor is there. I think the last time I actually played ArmA (really played) was last weekend when two of my buddies helped me BETA Test this mission. Of course this is the first mission I've ever made for MP and I'm striving for as much of a warlike atmosphere as possible which so far has translated to almost 100 hours from start to BETA v0.5. What drives me is to finally release the mission and add a tiny piece to the ArmA Puzzle (assuming anyone likes what I'm doing). Sorry if this doesn't answer your question; I just thought some n00bie input wouldn't hurt.

    Alien addon

Looks like a blast, I'll prolly try it for a chuckle. BTW, what are the specs of the PC used to make the video? The reason I ask is there doesn't appear to be one studded in the video even with all the explosions occurring.

    ArmA Effects

I agree, any improvement on ArmA's default rain is a good one.

    HaPPy B day ARMA

I'm still playing and in fact, I'm taking my first stab at MP Mission Creation since I spend so much of my time in the game anyway. Happy B-Day ArmA, even though you have your flaws, I love you just the same.

    ArmA Effects

While I haven't had a chance to spend too much time with this latest version MM I'd just like to say, what I've seen so far is simply amazing. The only complaint I can level is about the rain inside of buildings but this isn't your issue, it's Bis'. I just want to say that your mod has gone from some simple eye candy to a MUST HAVE addition to ArmA.

    Recording

@ Blazin, thanks for the reply, I'll definitely give it a whirl.

    Recording

I may as well chime in with a question I've been wanting to ask for a while in regards to recording in ArmA; is there a way to actually play and/or record ArmA in slow motion? The reason I ask is recording in slow motion makes for much more fluid movies because you get far more frames once the video is brought back up to normal speed. Many of the movies made for IL2 Forgotten Battles were created using this method hence the reason for asking the same of ArmA. Thanks.

    Chammys Sound Mod

Great News! I'm sure if you need BETA Testers there will be no shortage of people willing to help out, myself included. Your sound mod has done so much for the game that you have half the community dr00ling in eager anticipation for each and every update.

    Durg's Vegetation Fix

Loox great but I do have a question, is this only SP compatible?

    DMSmokeEffects Beta 4

Bushes do block AI sight. It's just that if they see you move into the bush, they guess at where you are based on your last known movement (they assume you are moving at the same speed and in the same direction as when they could last see you). Well you must be a much better player than I am because I don't see how I can even be spotted in a bush, especially at distance. It's not like I'm rummaging around in it, advertising my presence or picking berries off the thing, rattling the leaves Maybe I need to get my eyes checked because it takes me forever to even spot them in the open at distance with an Acog but it takes them nothing to turn me into mincemeat.
  13. I actually think that's why they made the standard rain the way they did, so it was nearly invisible inside buildings. Just a guess but can you make it so the rain in buildings is a light rain instead of the heavy rain seen everywhere else? I don't know if this is possible but it would make it seem more invisible.

    DMSmokeEffects Beta 4

You're a genius if you ask me DM, I love watching this progress. Maybe once your Smoke Effects are put to bed you can look at viewblocking foliage too; how the hell an AI AK Snipetard can spot me at over 100 yds through a bush is beyond me. I must be carrying keys or something

    Operation WW2

I'm guessing your having server issues because all of your images are dead and none of your links work. Still I do love WWII so will keep an eye on this with interest.
  16. It would be great to see work continue on this, especially if rain can be kept out of buildings (it rains when your inside) and also from falling under vehicles (if you crouch to see under a vehicle, you can still see rainfall falling to the ground blocked by the vehicle body).

    Chammys Sound Mod

I actually tried FDF after installing and using Chammy's for a bit and I must say that it is indeed a pretty good sound mod however, I prefer Chammy's and use it religiously. I agree with those who think it all comes down to personal preference. I just hope you continue work on this Chammy and eventually replace as much of the stock sounds as possible because you have definitely upped the immersion factor of ArmA for me at least.

    ArmA Effects

I know this is also going a bit sideways so I apologize in advance but jibbing would be a cool feature (not sure if it's feasible though). If a soldier steps on a landmine or gets hit by arty, there shouldn't be just a body remaining with a few blood patches, you should be picking him up with an eye dropper. I have no real complaints about this mod and I've used it pretty much since the initial release. I think your work is great MM and I look forward to the future of this mod.

    Good News for Western Hemisphere

You're telling me, distribution of this game has been dodgy at best since day one and QC is no exception. I really wish that BIS would actually show some evidence of learning from previous mistakes which in this case refers to this country specific, staggered release date, crapp0la.

    Artillery script

I apologize if this question has already been asked (browsed quickly over the last 4 pages) but is there a way to make this script run off a trigger in MP? I'd much rather have it work automatically based off enemy presence within a trigger if possible. Thanks.
  21. Maybe I'm just imagining things but after installing this, ArmA looks the best it ever has since purchasing it. I also enjoy the new load screens much more than the drab ones that ship with ArmA. I haven't spent a lot of time in ArmA since installing this mod but so far from what I've seen, it's pretty great. Nice work.

    Landscape Almost Real

I'm not sure we're reading the same topic then because I don't see a ton of "shooting down" happening in this thread. What I see more of is constructive criticism, observation and input based off the current ArmA model. The fact is that there is very little information to go on anyway. I think more of this topic as a hypothetical discussion rather than factual personally which was the basis for my own comments. At the end of the day, I just want whatever environment I'm in to actually feel like a living ecosystem, not some map painting. I love eye candy (who doesn't) but I'll sacrifice some of it in the interests of immersion any day.
  24. -duke-

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

As much as I enjoy ArmA (yes I know this isn't the thread for it) I will say that it took time to get it to this level and a number of terrific community built addons to make it what I consider to be a "mostly complete" game. I did expect more out of the game which is why I dl'd a Morphicon version as well as had a friend of mine in the Netherlands ship me a retail version as I live in Canada. Some people here whine about their copy of ArmA, well folks, I have two copies so I guess that makes me twice as dumb in some areas The good part is that the community is so full of talented people that ArmA will eventually be a really great game and I wonder if that will be the official release day for ArmA II? As much as I think BIS does it right, the staggered release dates, number of bugs, lack lustre original playability and general online experience have made me not so much fall off the BIS wagon as much as get dragged behind it. What keeps ArmA at the top of my most frequently used software is the addons, not the original version of ArmA. Also, I don't have a top of the line rig but an E6600 and 8800GTS should be more than adequate to get consistent frame rates (fluidity, not environmental FPS spikes) with decent eye candy so I'm a bit bummed about the hiccups I experience, especially when flying low in a chopper. I do know from all the above mumbo jumbo that I have reached one conclusion; I will not blindly jump into ArmA II until the community has assessed the game. If they give it a thumbs up then I'll definitely pick me up a copy but if not, I'll pass. Sorry BIS.
