    ArmA and Facebook

Hi, do you use Facebook? Ever wanted to monitor your regular ArmA server without firing up ArmA or Gamespy? [LOL] members have ported the 6th Sense/RTSQ scripts to Facebook. In future you will be able to find out when other Facebook friends are online playing ArmA and which server they are using. Try the ArmA Server application here: Facebook ArmA Server App Have Fun! Dedicated Server Beta available

...and that's exactly why LOL has provided Circus (fun) and Majors (co-op) servers to provide facilities for both camps. Having said that, [LOL] BigTop (ArmA Demo server) is the busiest at the moment. If only the CTI map was working... wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

    Dedicated Server Beta available

Hi Maverick, Although BIS could spend time working on "ban by IP" functionality, it's fair to say that it's really not so difficult to implement with simple firewall software. Under Linux it's very straight forward but we have also done it successfully on some of our older M$-Windows OFP servers as well. Of course, the tricky part is establishing the IP address of the idiot to be banned but that's another story In an ideal world the log/netlog functionality would be compiled back into the dedicated server code and the log file output would include the IP address, as well as the ID, of each player that connects. Personally I'd rather BIS spent their valuable time working on stability issues and optimising server performance. Just my 2d's wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

Are all Singleplayer missions available in COOP?

Hi, currently on [LOL]Circus we are experimenting with some larger co-op maps with 48 and 60 slots (players)... (although this is not recommended on anything less than a high-end, multi-cpu server). HTH wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

    Dedicated Server Beta available

Hi, on [LOL]Circus (1.02) playing maps with 40-50 players (and lots of AI) we're seeing an average of 3.5 Mbits/sec with peaks of 5 Mbits/sec. The ArmA netcode seems to have been optimised and is more efficient than the old OFP stack. HTH wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

    Dedicated Server Beta available

Hi Silverr, we had to patch the old OFP dedicated server executable to implement logging under MS-Windows; I hope that we don't have to do it that way again... wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

    Dedicated Server Beta available

Hi, although it is a shame that you can no longer overwrite/delete mission files whilst the dedicated server process is running, the main benefit seems to be that all the maps are checked when the server first starts and any corrupted files are flagged on the console. NB. The server process fails to start if bad mission files are present at startup time. This is actually a big help as the server admin can be reasonably sure that the newly uploaded mission files have not been corrupted during the file transfer process without having to manually load each map from the ArmA game client. Dedicated Server Beta available

Hi All, Beta dedicated server had its first crash tonight after loading new maps on to the server. There was no screen prompt to Debug and Dr Watson did not "detect" the event. There was just a lack of the beta dedicated server process when I remotely connected to the server... Dump files have been sent; I hope that they prove useful. wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

    Dedicated Server Beta available

Hi, New Beta code now stable (no crashes) for the last 24 hours on [LOL]Circus. The only strange bug was when two players controlled the same soldier in game. We could both take turn to fire and use all the controls. At first I thought my keyboard was driven by a ghost! CPU load is low even with five players and a few vehicles the average seems to be below 25%. Memory usage is also low but more interesting reports will follow once we have some matches with 20 players. Someone was asking about DM/COOP/CTF: Circus will be running all of the above for a while until the new [LOL] maps are ready to play. Thanks Again to BIS! wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

    Dedicated Server Beta available

WOW! What a difference. [LOL]Circus seems very stable running on dual Xeon and Windows Server 2003. Thanks BIS! Once we have a few players on line we will capture some stats (mem/CPU etc.) Thanks Again wombat -- [LOL] "Send in the clowns..." http://www.nakedsquid..com

    Dedicated Server Crashes (Windows 2003)

Hi, we are testing the new Dual Xeon [LOL]Circus server and have exactly the same instability problems as the Fraghaus guys. Our server is running Windows 2003 Server with 2 x Xeon and 2 Gb of RAM. The hardware build is absolutely stable (has been running as part of a cluster for 12 months) and is fully patched. I will go to the data centre and swap the drive packs across to another cluster node later today to prove that the hardware (RAM etc) is not at fault. I have to agree with the Fraghaus team; we have been running Linux and Windows servers for OFP (and other games) for 5 years now and the problem (in our opinion) is related to the ArmA server code, not the environment or the hardware. I have taken a lot of time to try various mods to make the platform more stable but nothing really seems to make a difference and limiting the server process to using one CPU is such a retrograde step that I will just keep complaining until BIS investigate further... As [LOL]Circus is completely dedicated to ArmA and no longer has any other duties I would offer to allow BIS to RDP or VNC on to the platform if they need real world servers to try and isolate the problem or observe it at first hand. (Can't wait for the Linux dedicated server code to come along, at least we'd have a chance of getting hold of some meaningful debug info! ) wombat -- http://www.nakedsquid.com [LOL] Send in the clowns...
