    Tips on flying a helicopter?

Imho, it's ALL ALL because the default control scheme MAKES flying artificially harder. Rebind correctly your keys, and you'll see the choppers are super easy to fly : Mouse to control the Cyclic == mouse up down for nose up / down, mouse left/right for roll left/right A and D for pedal left/right W and S for collective up and down REMOVE any binding non related to the above (like the weird "turn left/right" thing) And that's it. With these flying is a piece of cake I made a ticket just for this, it's too bad bad default controls give a false perception of the in-game choppers : http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=5683 We are all waiting for a better flight model which should come from Take On Helicopter (a BI helicopter simulation), which would arguably make flying harder.

    ARMA III & Steam WORKSHOP

Let's say BI use Steam Workshop system DayZ is released. DayZ gives TONS of money to BI. And on top of it, BI would own DayZ without even having to chase the original modmaker. You can replace DayZ with any mod that gives a reputation to the platform. Steam gets money from the quality of the content they distribute. If they don't want to go further than that, then they simply remove the stupid statement from their EULA. Case closed.

    ARMA III & Steam WORKSHOP

If I put 100's of hours of work into something, giving it for free, even for the kindest person in the world, and trusting that guy he won't ever re-use my work even if that means losing money for him, would be STUPID Stop asking modders to be stupid. Really, as long as you've not put that much work into something, I don't think you can even understand what it means, and how much it is YOURS. If Steam doesn't intend on re-using the content, then it's quite simple : they don't write this in their EULA. They currently expressedly write they want to reuse the content. As long as this is written, modders will not use their distribution tool. which brings the last point : you can whine all you want about modders unwilling to use Steam Workshop, in the end it's their (imho logical) choice. Instead of having a go against them (which I understand too, it's far easier to write against a single or a dozen modders on a forum than against a company like Steam), you should have a go AGAINST STEAM STUPID AGREEMENT. Asking people to hand hover 100's of hours of work for free is stupid. Stop asking modders to be stupid.

    AI Skill Settings

I've been running testings the past 2 days, and strangely, I found that up to 0.4 in aimingSkill, the AI aiming is below the human precision in game. I find all the value posted above too low, imho. What I did : put AI with the default 0.5 skill slider set in their init, modify these values : setSkill aimingAccuracy 0.4 setSkill aimingSpeed 0.4 setSkill commanding 0.8 setSkill spotDistance 0.8 setSkill spotSpeed 0.6 This way, I'm still able to solo teams of ennemies mostly. Something else : units spawned by Sites modules seems to be particularly bad
  5. Funny. I've had less stuck, blocked, clunky issues in A3 so far than in my last 2 FPS, namely BF3 and Planetside 2 (damn, this last one has big character stuck issues!) I feel it more naturally in A3 because I KNOW I'm not going to be able to to unrealistic things, so I don't even attempts stupid moves. I've been stuck once so far, in a rock. Not a movement issues, more a collision detection one (was partially stuck inside the rock) My biggest issue with movement so far is the auto-up feature (your character getting up automatically for some weird reason)
  6. Heya, I'm running A3 currently with a bunch of people coming from other horizons. We're playing mainly coop missions, OFP like, because ArmA3 is what reminds me the most of OFP since Armed Assault (and it feels so good, tbh) One thing striked me yesterday : nobody trying to fly chopper is successfull when using the default control scheme. They are unable to make even 1 single usefull chopper run. And it's not because the flight model is complex and chopper take hours to master. No. It's because the controls are useless. Default controls let you control the collective, rudder, and something BI called "Turn Right/Left", which is a strange mix of cyclic right/left, rudder, and... well, I don't know what exactly :) I've changed the controls to map real life chopper controls, aka cyclic (on mouse), collective (W-S keys) and rudder (A-D keys). It changed everything, made the chopper flyable and simply made all work. Mind you, I'm on OFP since demo, I'm pretty used to their flight model, so the learning phase is absent :) But that worked with everyone I talked to. Questions : * Do YOU keep the default chopper controls scheme and be successfull with them? Do you know people using default control scheme? * Do you think changing default control to real life control would be more beneficial for the game? I've made a ticket about this : http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=5683 . Upvote / Downvote as wished :) Whis'

    Chopper default control scheme

That's exactly what I'm after : the default control schemes makes flying unnecessarily less easy, when simply changing them makes it better for flying.

    PlanetSide 2

That's the first thing I wrote after learning the release date, that the game would end up being a 6 month fun deal, then on the decline. Mind you, I find the game terribly good and addictive despite its huge flaws. But by the time they'll do the necessary changes to make the game work properly (and I'm still naive enough to think they intend to do so, and will do), I'm afraid too many people will have left the ship already. It's to me already worth playing and a blast once you get out of the solo playing in the middle of a MMO (this can be fun in ESF, though). In a sizeable group, the game is really good, depending on the ability of the platoon leader to direct the platoon with the goal of finding a good fight and enjoyable time for his crew, instead of trying to win for his empire.

    Chopper default control scheme

This is not changed. You have to repeatedly smash your mouse downward for a sustained turn :) So what I get now, is that my issue is essentially due to my usage of mouse. Keyboard default settings is matching IRL chopper controls, but not the mouse.

    Chopper default control scheme

ah, cyclic on keys. That may be, tbh, but I don't think so as I don't remember unbinding these from cyclic when binding the to collective and rudder (cause these are the keys I use for collective and rudder ;) ). Gonna check also tonight.@Zickfoose : maybe that's just me then, that's why I posted, to get feedback :) But for me, I control and achieve things like fast landing faaaar easier with controls matching true chopper controls. And probably doing barrel rolls and such is made easier with functions like their "turn" function. But for mission effective flying (ie, take off fast, fly NOE, land super fast and precise), I found the default controls super clunky
  11. whisper

    Chopper default control scheme

It is NOT like in real life, sorry. mouse left/right is not bound to cyclic left/right, but turn left/right. Check the keybindings options, you'll see the cyclic left/right is not what you are using when using default controls

    Size of final map.

The A3 island was originally planned to BE Lemnos (ie, also the name). They've run through a refusal by local authorities, if I'm not mistaken, and had to change the name. So the island we'll have IS in fact Lemnos, tweaked. One of the tweak may well be a simple scale down, so the size of the original island should not be a proof of the in-game island size.

    ArmA2 ACE = CoD ???

This "I'm better than thou" attitude, that we've seen plenty of since Armed Assault, must cease for the good of the game. one-man army rambos running around to get kills is a usual sight on ArmA 2 public servers.
  14. wtf, I've yet to stumble on a modded server....
  15. This is ENTIRELY down to the guy who made the mission, not to the game itself. The game offers all the tools needed to fullfill your wishes, it's then dependant on the mission you play and how the mission maker envisionned how it would play. From what you describe, you may talk about the Blitzkrieg missions which indeed spawn you at the starting base often remote from action. If this is the case, there should be a crate from where you can select your gear, and chose to respawn to another better location. If you have suggestion or remarks about Blitzkrieg, head over there : http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?147635-Blitzkrieg-for-A3-%28PvP-Game-Mode%29-%28based-on-AAS%29 If the mission was NOT blitzkrieg, you'll have to hunt here in the forum for the thread about the mission (most often, missions played regularly on the A3 servers are found with their own threads on the A3 User Missions subforum). BI is not best known for making the most played out MP missions on their game. They release an engine which permits almost everything to be done in terms of possible missions, and the players themselves come up with the innovative ideas. In turns, it means you often go for mission makers instead of BI for asking for features ;)
  16. After a bit of server administration and running once into the issue, the lack of reserved slot for servers can really be hindering, if not worse when no admin can connect to a server having issues. Reserved slot would be a good solution, but the changing nature of missions and number of slots available could lead to some problems. I was thinking more to an always up "admin slot" for dedicated servers, requiring a special password set in configuration file, which would not give access to a player character slot, but only a camera spawned in the middle of the currently played map (or [0,0,0] if "middle of map" is too hard to code :) ), enabling a server admin to log in, chat with players and take appropriate actions if needed. In an ideal world, one could even make a lil client application which would connect this way to a server, without having to launch the game itself, and give acces to the chat and inline commands

    PlanetSide 2 - MMO

@OnlyRazor : they plan to have also a monthly fee system in place for those who prefer the usual MMO scheme. The way I see it, they made choices (like spreading the fight all over the maps, as opposed to Planetside1 style based around bases where everyone was fighting) which will require that a lot of people are online, to avoid feeling like completely empty battlefield. So they do everything to capture more players, and F2P is how they try to do that. Also, they want to have normal FPS player trying this MMO, PS1 has shown them that, at least back in the days, FPS players were not ready for subscribtion-based games. Though, today, WOW has come by, and majority of gamers are now aware of P2P systems. As for clusterfuck, like I said above, they set up a system were every piece of land is important, and the maps are really big, more OFP/ArmA size than usual FPS size.

Beware, OT following. 1) I'm talking about the subject I know, because it is my job, and nothing else. So I'm not going to comment on euro, borders opening, bank accounts and what not. 2) No, most of the time, "big company" driven Internet access is not exactly the same as "state driven" Internet access. They lack the political and ideological motive. They are set up to make maximum profit. So its not exactly comparable, and the very fact that state driven Internet Access is unique and enable technically systematic DPI to be set up is wrong, and worst than private company driven Internet access. That said, ISPs are not all equal in what service they offer to you, and too often, this service is not Internet access (see below). 3) unique and centralized state driven Internet is polar opposite to Internet architecture. Internet has no center, no central point where every traffic goes. One could nuke america (nota : this is not a bash on USA, it's just that, if there was a "owner of Internet" (ie, a center), it would be USA), and Internet would still function. Google wouldn't, but Internet would be functional. 4) Your view of Internet as some kind of big pipe connecting you to big web sites is skewd and utterly wrong. Which is normal, this is the model which is pushed on you as being "Ze Internet" for several years now by big central companies. They show Internet as such : you are a customer, they are a provider, you buy their product, period. This is very much like TV, you are supposed to be passive and using their service. This is not Internet. On Internet, your PC has the same rights and capabilities as Google servers. Google gets and push your mails? Your PC can too. Google host your videos? Your PC can too. Google hosts your blog through blogspot service? Your PC can too! If you are concerned about your data being used by big companies, I strongly urge you to simply... avoid using their service. Your Internet is not going to shut down because you stopped using Google. Big companies own 90% of websites? They don't own your PC. Ultimately, the one external owner who could damage you more is your DNS domain owner. This is the weak link. 5) This very property of symmetry on Internet (anyone connected to the network is equal to others and can act like any other, client, server, for any kind of traffic) can be used as a tool to know the quality of your access. So called "smart"phones on mobile network cannot act as web servers, SMTP relay or IRC chat server => mobile network are not Internet. So yes, for privacy issues, I'd advise staying away from that. A-centric property of Internet can also be used as a tool to measure your Internet access. If you cannot avoid governmental, or company X, spying, you're not on an Internet access. 6) provided you have an Internet access, your case of sharing knowledge is suddenly not so big. You setup a torrent seed of your compromising information on your PC, you share the torrent, on sites opposing your target, for better spread, or, depending on the importance, with Anon, Wikileaks, whatever.... Need to push detailed report? Setup a web server on your PC, get your domain name, push your page with the information. You should, technically speaking, be able to do that. 7) even if your Internet access is not really one, you have tools to circumvent. Ask the chineses ;) Internet is a formidable tool for sharing. Instead of trashing it by default because you see big companies on it, use it, it gives you far more possibilities than when you had no Internet. And no, it is not under control by a few. The users exclusively using centralized, private or state controlled services accessible on Internet are under control. You are not forced to use these centralized services. If you are, you are not on Internet anymore.

I can guarantee you this is not the case at least in my country. If in worst case scenario, such DPI infrastructure was put in place in every other ISP covering the country, I know the one I currently work for doesn't, and is a safe place to get Internet access in this regard. And I'm pretty sure it's the same for most of the other ISPs here. This is where I'm freaking glad we don't have a state-run Internet anymore here in France. I can't imagine what the muppet we currently have as president would have done with state control on Internet access, seeing what experiments he did with foreign countries (Lybia is not the only example one can find, you can find, for example, the main uranium suppliers of France amongst Amesys clients, and we are heavily relying on uranium for our energy bill here... causes, consequences ...) @Vilas : I'm talking about true Internet access, ie the fixed one. The mobile Internet access we are sold is not Internet. It's web and mail, nothing more, and yes, you're handling lots of privacy information through that. I'm also talking about Internet. Not GoogleNet or FacebookNet, which are also complete privacy killers and can be seen as spy agencies. Internet is something else than that.

I'm trying to decipher what you means by that... * Is it that you don't see anything wrong with a government setting up large scale data spying on its citizens? Is that normal for you? If so, I don't ponder anymore about some answers here, if some are capable to be sheep-herded to the point of accepting this from their govt. ... well, there's not much to discuss anymore. Don't worry, your super govt is doing everything for you, sleep well.... None of them have personal agenda, never! * Is it that you don't believe such a system was in place? Facts : During the visit of Ghaddafi to France some years ago (where btw, he was welcome as a hero and genius leader by our govt by that time, because he had money and was rdy to buy us things), many trade agreements have been made, amongst them, Amesys, company of Bull, a french computer manufacturer, and specialist in DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) technology used to dig into data information transiting on ISP networks, has been chosen by Ghaddafi to install the infrastructure to be used to (officially) "fight against child-porn" in Lybia. You can go to Amesys website to check what exactly they are selling, they don't hide what it is (well, they didn't until some noise has been made on their contracts with Lybia, I've not checked since), it's large scale (as written : "nation wide") data inspection. DPI technology are perfectly capable of this, if they can be put somewhere in a network where all trafic will flow (and I know this perfectly because I installed such DPI equipments years ago in a few networks), which is possible when a single state-run ISP is in place in said country. With this technology, you are able to single out any data communication made going through the DPI infrastructure, which means, read everything written and read by the guy, etc... for anyone you chose in the range of your "customers". You can copy of a manual given to Libyans here This has passed under radar of anyone until some UK GI if I'm not mistaken, entering official buildings in Tripoli, found a full operational center label "Amesys" everywhere with what appeared to be files about many opposition activists. So this is not some conspirationist theory going on, this is what actually happened.

At least some of then, the "tribes" (probably not the correct term) not affiliated to Gaddhafi main group, and who probably didn't have a taste of the heaven goodness described above. Lybia isn't a single block, tied together country. Funny how suddenly Lybia was heaven on earth. It's all white or black, mmmh? People seriously couldn't be put out of this greatness and all was wonderfull, and every other tale is a lie? Look, the whole Lybia freedom war and international involvement was a sad farce, took on by power-hungry western politicians in a time they desperately needed some recognition (at least, for our case, France) And Ghaddafi had great plans, and did some real good to his country. Thing is, contrary to what is shown above, he was no saint, and some, if not many, were left out of his plans. Minority? Very probably. And I'm making a great effort here to set aside his state-terrorism past killing our citizens. (seriously, this whole "he was great" is a joke. A terrorist is never great, you should know that in Russia) Having a need to build a whole infrastructure to spy on his citizens through Internet and phone (to a level rarely achieved) is not really a sign of a peacefull country, quite the countrary. More a sign of oppressive regime. And where the farce comes to ridicule : the whole spying infrastructure has been design and sold to Lybia .... by France. How sad was that? Look up for "Amesys" for more info on this.

I'm not supporting war on Lybia in the slightest, nor was I a supporter of Gaddhafi, quite the opposite. But I'm really baffled the above quote can be used as an argument to support brutal, autocratic regime which silenced any opposition for decades. Not even mentioning the state terrorism used by Gaddhafi himself. "streets were clean and in proper order" .... The foul odor being this sentence is horrible.
  25. Case in point : you don't have to care about his opinions. He (well, somebody) released some sources, we can just read them. The opinion of the whistle blower is irrelevant. He's just going to push is opinions through what type of material he decides to release and what not, but at least sources are there. Mind you, I'm not saying it's ideal, some things probably should be carefully thought out before being released, most of the datas in a leak are useless making datamining tough, etc.... But it's better than nothing. IN current case, very slightly better than nothing ;)
