Germany to drop conscription by 2008

Its a nice idea in theory, but in practise you seem to end up with a large number of people in the Armed forces who don't want to be there, and the Armed forces themselves don't know what to do with them 80% of the time. so the majority of get through the basic training and spent most of the time sitting around square-bashing and the like. rather than picking up more valuable skills, as the armed forces are unwilling to teach them as they will be gone in a year or so. National service was only really useful given the unusual conditions and manpower needs of the Cold War, the need for expanded reserves in case it turned 'hot', the massivly expanded intellegence gathering operations etc. etc. these days its hard to see a a role for them.

    Uk forces

yeah, we are still here honest, the main problem is that the main people on the infantry side of the project both work in the "hospitality" industry (pubs and hotels and the like) so christmas is a rather busy time. but, seing as you were nice. just the one new pic then. Royal Marines and US Marines on Joint patrol.

    Call of duty demo out!

MP is pretty good, so long as you find a server that has disabled the Snipers, as they are everywhere. Once that is sorted it'll be a pretty good MP game. and they are promising good MOD support. so we'll see how that pans out.

    Rugby world cup

Almost Certinally. thats sport for you. But it should be a good world cup, there are a fair few teams with a realistic chance of winning. Sadly i fear Wales isn't one of them (as nice is that would be, a wales-england world cup final? that would be special) but so long as we beat SA i think England have a good chance.

    Bas tonal-tango pack

Its a trade off isn't it, you can either have lots and lots of low-detail (but nicely textured) buildings (and i love standing in a street and watching it vansih into the distance .. like a real city). or you can have a few high detail ones.

    Spotting rounds

    I'm trying to configure a spotting round for my LAW-80 launcher, at the moment the round impacts with an explosion: what i'd like is for it either to act like a bullet, or ideally "when they hit an armoured target they leave a chalky mark and make a satisfying ping. but don't explode." any ideas? <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> class UKF_LAW80LAWspotting:CarlGustav { Â Â Â Â Â Â hit=8; Â Â Â Â Â Â indirectHit=1; Â indirectHitRange=0.100000; Â Â Â Â Â minRange=50; Â minRangeProbab=0.99; midRange=590; Â midRangeProbab=0.99; maxRange=620; Â maxRangeProbab=0.01; model="shell"; Â simulation="shotRocket"; Â simulationStep=0.050000; Â soundFly[]={"objects\bulletnoise",0.251189,0.700000}; maxSpeed=350; Â irLock=1; Â manualControl=1; Â maxControlRange=0; Â initTime=0; Â thrustTime=1.500000; Â thrust=2000; Â maneuvrability=0; Â explosive=0; Â visibleFire=0.035000; Â audibleFire=0.035000; Â visibleFireTime=2; Â tracerColor[]={0.800000,0.500000,0.100000,0.400000}; soundHit1[]={"weapons\bulletricochet1",0.031623,1}; Â soundHit2[]={"weapons\bulletricochet2",0.031623,1}; Â soundHit3[]={"weapons\bulletricochet3",0.031623,1}; Â soundHitMan1[]={"weapons\bullethitman1",0.012589,1}; Â soundHitMan2[]={"weapons\bullethitman2",0.012589,1}; Â soundHitArmor1[]={"weapons\small_impact1",0.031623,1}; Â soundHitArmor2[]={"weapons\Big_Impact2",0.031623,1}; Â soundHitBuilding1[]={"weapons\bulletricochet4",0.031623,1}; Â soundHitBuilding2[]={"weapons\bulletricochet5",0.031623,1}; Â hitGround[]={"soundHit1",0.330000,"soundHit2",0.330000,"soundHit3",0.330000}; Â hitMan[]={"soundHitMan1",0.500000,"soundHitMan2",0.500000}; Â hitArmor[]={"soundHitArmor1",0.700000,"soundHitArmor2",0.300000}; Â hitBuilding[]={"soundHitBuilding1",0.500000,"soundHitBuilding2",0.500000}; Â cartridge="FxCartridge"; Â Â Â };

    Modern usmc marpat

Not so simple as that i don't think, the models that you see are probably 99% complete, but you don't know how much of the whole "pack" that represents, as far as i am aware they are relasing these units one at a time to testing (i.e rifleman, sniper, machinegunner &c.) and it would hardly be worth releasing to the community in that way would it?

    Project-ukf update

Definitly in are: The Infantry ("generic", and regimental) The Royal Marines The Parachute Regiment SA-80 / L85A2 ICW (Rifle Grenades, AG36) SA-80 / L85A2 LSW L7A2 General Purpose Machine Gun Browning Pistol FN-Minimi Probably some other stuff too.. just as a side note, all of those units in the pics are the same model, the only thing that is changed is the init line...

    Warrior ifv

There are three variants of the Warrior. the prototypes and early production models had the double door: The later (and most common) variant had the single door, the final variant being the uparmoured version - since that is the one you are doing, yeah, should the single door.
  18. Just a quick note to say that we now have a website @ http://www.freewebs.com/bibmi/ with a few new screenshots etc. let me know if i have made any really obvious mistakes Vade_101

    Bibmis african militia update?

yeah, this has happened before. but not for quite so long a period before. Â Â like i said. i am planning on updating the African Militia (the .cpp is already done, i just need to get around to doing the LOD issues) and re-releasing them along with Bibmi's South American pack... its just a matter of finding the time atm.
  22. vade_101

    Bibmis african militia update?

the plan is to update and fix them, it not much work. but real life time constraints mean its hard to give a definite date on when they'll be completed.

    Regular us infantry

To be honest, i don't really know where to start on this one.. i would hope its a joke, or just some sort of trolling. To make the blitz out as an isolated raid is utterly ridiculous, The Blitz on london lasted for 57 days (7 September 1940 to 11 May 1941) Just over 20,000 people were killed and 1,400,000 were made homeless. It was a concerted attempted to undermine the morale of the British population, and a further attempt to draw the royal air force into a decisive air battle in order to facilitate the the invasion of Britain. In a campaign totally seperate from the Blitz, the so called "Baedeker raids"  were a *series* of German air raids directed at British provincial towns and cities between April and October 1942. These raids were launched in response to the bombing of Lubeck, a raid itself carried out to test the theory of exiled German scientist Professor Franz Lindemann  He said the civilans affected by the series of raids that the luftwaffe launched in 1941 on Hull minded losing their homes more than anything else, and concluded that making German civilians homeless could affect their war effort and undermine their morale. I don't think i'm even going to bother on the bit about Nazi attitudes to art, history or literature. but there is a vast amount of literature (proper, academic literature not just "hollywood history") covering the Nazi suppression of Artistic movements as well as the wide scale historical revisionism that they undertook to prove their "scientific"/philosophical view of national identity.
