Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | NO discussion here!
Undeceived replied to EricM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Here's a free translation of the interview (with some minor parts summarized): After the incidents yesterday (see below), Morris Hebecker, chief of Morphicon, which will release Arma 2 answered our questions. Later today we'll bring more updates to this case also with an interview with BI. PCG: Why will the German version of Arma 2 be released earlier and not together with the other versions? Morris Hebecker: German version will be released tomorrow, Czech version in the middle of June and the English version one week later. The span between these releases is three weeks. The release dates are that different because there are different buisiness agreements, which are locally different. PCG: There will be a patch which puts the German version equal to the level of the other versions. Is that right? Morris Hebecker: In every aspect Arma 2 is a very complex game that plays in a huge world. Because of this of course it can contain some bugs. We will give the players patch 1.01 until the beginning of the next week. It will bring numerous corrections and will have the size of about 70MB. The German beta testers, who all come from the engaged community and where the most of them are active since Flashpoint times, confirm to us that Arma2 looks good. PCG: Why did Peter Games [Morphicon] force the change of the report on pcgames.de? Morris Hebecker: It was agreed with all magazines that tests could be put out on 29th may to give the magazines enough time to properly test such a extensive game as Arma 2. Thus we take the pressure from magazines that are oriented in quality, because if there was no settled date, such magazines would have a disadvantage by making a proper and time consuming test if there came out another magazine with title "First Arma 2 Test". And since the extensive news on pcgames.de looked like a test article for us, for other magazines - and as we can see, also for some users - we appealed to PC Games to remove the part with the opinions. PCG: Is the release of tests in the news only at the release day of Arma 2 a trick to win naive customers? Morris Hebecker: First of all such a behaviour does not match with our firm politics, we will do nothing to dupe our customers. Who does this intentionally, does harm himself, at the latest at the next release. And secondly this wouldn't work with a game like Arma 2. Arma 2 definitely isn't a game that one buys himself "just at release day". A such extensive and complex military simulation, which among other things will be enriched for a long time by ingenious mods of the community, will be bought over a long time span. Fans of BI games did follow the development of Arma 2 over a long time, did have many impressions and have ordered the game already. Other interested players will firstly wait for the test results and reactions of first customers, before they buy the game. Consequently we would have won nothing by artificially delaying test reports. Like I said, we could give the test version to the magazines only one week before, which probably just does be enough to get a general overview of the big part of all features. Because of this the fixed date is 29th may. -

PCG updated the news with an interview with Morphicon. See here: http://www.pcgames.de/aid,685486/ArmA-2-PC-Games-testet-die-Militaer-Simulation-Update/PC/News/ -
Ehm, I'm talking about the grass remaining flattened after someone passes. Yes, in ArmA the grass flattens, when you are on it, but when you leave it gets normal again.
-
What's up, is the flattened grass when someone passes confirmed or not? Does anyone have a source?

You can use the microphone in ArmAII?
Undeceived replied to LaMuerteX's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The only problem in ArmA was that the VoIP was pretty low. I hope that they are going to lift the volume up in Arma 2. -

After seeing the videos and reading some previews (especially the one from Gamestar.de and Krawall.de), I have to say that I am also pretty concerned about the game. Yeah, I thought about this sentence too in the last days... Many say: "But it was an old build!". And my impression is that in some cases it's just like a cheap excuse, like closing the eyes in front of the truth... Of course I also hope that the actual version of the game is much better than that february-build, but like some others said... Are BIS really able to fix all those bugs until 29th of may (less the reproduction phase)?? BIS, PLEASE deliver Arma2 as the "Military Simulation of the next generation" which you promised us in the last years! If another delay is needed to do this, damn it, simply delay it again! OFP:DR was also postponed. I think it's better to wait one month or two more than than to experience such a crippled start like it was the case with Arma1... And besides, I think that online magazines won't just test the game again and pull it out of a possible bad score after every patch release. -

I hope that in all terms the game has reached a better status than the build this German online magazin used. Don't know if it was already posted and translated but their conclusion is pretty sobering. I mean... Here's a rough free translation of some parts of it: "Even being careful in predicting, it could be that for a few weeks "ArmA 2" will also need to be patched up to the quality, which it could have reached already from the start. [...] If it is released free of bugs, "ArmA 2" will probably be a very good game and it would have deserved a "Very Good" in this preview. But if the developers do not get it under control, even our first impression "Good" would not be suitable." Source: Preview -
The same for me! :icon_rolleyes:

Thanks, BIS!!!

[TRANSLATION] Interview about ArmA 2

Thanks for the translation, Deadfast! -
I think every addon, mission and modmaker writes it clearly (at least in the Readme) that he is making an addon, mission or a mod for Operation Flashpoint and not that he is working on a "independent project named Operation Flashpoint: CWC"! Come on, Pulverizer! And if you sum up this and for example his statements like "what we made in the original game..." (I think it was in one of those "clone-presentations" in the last year, sorry, no source), you can notice that he pretty much wants all to believe he was a part of the OFP1 team... Which is pretty miserable, isn't it? If this is true and not a mistake -> ........ no, I won't say the bad word but... Shame on you all involved!!

Please no unreachable mountains!!! Just imagine you as a lonely man standing there with your hunting rifle in your hand, just you and the nature, watching this wonderful landscape with that fog in the wide valleys and those mountains behind it. Imagine that tension when you think about crossing that valley, maybe having the luck to spot a boar... Or having to face the bigfoot, the locals talked about in their stories. Then looking up to see your main goal between the trees, which you never gave up... Those beautiful mountains in the distance... But you will never start that fullfilling jorney. Because you are standing there and knowing that you'll never be able to reach and climb that beauty! How frustrating this would be for a man who seeks the freedom... Please not... -

Well, in this case I also think that it is the trees. If you look at the beginning of the video (sec. 3-6) you can see such flickering in those brown trees in the background too (the ones right and especially left of the parked tank). -
Why use nationalities in a video game?
Undeceived replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I didn't like SLA and RACS... They had no signification for me. I could not take the SLA as an "dangerous and strong" enemy because I never heard about it earlier. This is different with Russia... Like sparks50 said: -
Se mandem!! Óia os home vindo!!! Wow! These are great addons!!! Very good work!

+1 Thank you for this trailer, Bohemia! Please take the time you need to finish this game!! We really hope that you are not in contract with someone like Jowood...

Hi Schnapsdrossel, thank you for these great civilians! Maybe this is a stupid question but... Since you separated the civilian pack from the mercs pack: Which one is the latest version of the mercenaries for me to download, if I want them? Is it V. 0.5? (because the first post of the thread shows such a information...) edit: SchnapsdroSel, sorry

I hope that I'm not bothering you guys. But I just want to give it up and let the dust to take possession of this thread! I want to try to give you a little motivation for you to take heart and take some time to finish these great resistance units... So if you want and have some time left, you can give a go to the mission I am working on which uses these fighters, maybe it inspires you guys to continue working on them, they're really awesome! You can find the mission here. The player plays as a German soldier but the resistance fighters also play a central role in this mission. I am also making another mission which uses the resistance fighters too (this time in a very interesting main role). Would be great to hear from you. *thumbsup* PS: No self-marketing here (as the mission is still beta anyway ) - it's just that agamoth and Solus, your mailbox is full... I hope that you hear this shout here somehow...

YES!!! That's it!!!!!! Thank you very much, Medicus! This solved the problem, the error message does not appear anymore! The GL named "Server" didn't make it. Bu it was the search lights (transportable) that caused this error. I replaced them by the "normal" ones and that was it! Thx for your help!!
-
Thanks, Medicus!! I'll try it out. Hehe, I was recommended to use it by Lester himself in the Mapfact forums. But it is a bit to large for me and does require addons, I don't need AND QG, which for this mission I do not use... But thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Hi people! I get a error message from the EditorUpdate every time I start the SP mission I am working on (see attachment below). Does anyone of you know this and can tell me what it means and how to remove this thing? The file respawnobjects.sqs does not exist in the path given in the error hint, so it's pretty odd... I am using both the EditorUpdate_v102 and the one from G85. Is it possible that both are not compatible together? If you can help me it would be suuuperb!! Thank you! edit: Sorry for digging out a thread with this age... I didn't look at the date of the last post.
