  1. Would it be possible to increase the amount of fatigue a particular soldier is able to have, so that some sort of leveling up would become possible? Level 1 soldiers would get easily fatigued, but a level 10 soldier would be able to run much farther than the vanilla fatigue system currently allows. This could allow additional gameplay incentives to not run and gun, because you would be set back a level or reset to level 1. Possible with current system?

    Mantle, SteamOS and Arma 3

Probably - there is no evidence yet, so my statement is not based on any fact other than the elimination of a lot of windows overhead! Removing that huge bloat should do wonders for performance, but you are correct to remain skeptical. However, you do not have to have OGL implemented if you just provide MANTLE to supported GPUs. Implementing MANTLE and OGL seems like an even bigger hurdle to cross, and the real question is what nVidia GPUs will be supported. AMD GCN cores are all supported and that covers cards that are almost three years old now.

    Mantle, SteamOS and Arma 3

MANTLE will provide a graphical boost so incredible that even the most optimized OGL solution will not be able to touch. Add to this the ability to take existing DX code and you have a killer API! This is what Carmack has been bitching about for years, and with the resources at AMD's disposal, MANTLE could really be a game changer.

    Terrain Improvement (dev branch)

This is AMAZING WORK, NordKindchen! I hope BIS devs will either devote some resources to implement this or provide tools for modding superheroes like yourself to make this happen! This improvement is astounding!

    custom waypoint

Haha - been playing since OFP and never knew that! Thanks, guys

    custom waypoint

Is there a way to mark a custom waypoint on the map? Or is there a mod that would allow such a thing? Ideally, the user would just click on the map and make a waypoint which would show up in first person view when playing. It would be nice for the main game to have this, so that all MP games would support a custom user waypoint.
  7. Are there any plans to incorporate the new MANTLE API into Arma3? Mantle allows porting of DirectX code to the API, eliminating windows graphics overhead and speeding up graphics processing. Chuck has a good article on MANTLE: http://semiaccurate.com/2013/09/30/amds-mantle-biggest-change-gaming-decade/
  8. Remember what the devs said on the eve of the release... Dev branch has weeks of tweaks and improvements coming, but things will be broken and need fixing as they merge them into the dev branch. I just hope the vehicles get heavier as we go along.

    AI Discussion (dev branch)

Folks need to relax and understand how large-scale projects are released! BIS will be supporting and improving Arma3 for a long time. The best is yet to come and it is great already!
  10. Thank you BIS! I have been thrilled since the beginning with OFP and quickly signed up for the Arma3 alpha the first day it was available! Your company is spectacular!

    Altis: Criticism and Suggestions

No need for a mountain range, but more variation in elevation would increase the visual interest and provide additional gameplay and strategy!

    Altis: Criticism and Suggestions

The first impression from viewing Altis is stunning, but I noticed it was a little flat. I don't know if this can be adjusted without disturbing all of the perfectly placed objects and buildings. LESS FLAT would be my only suggestion.

    [AhoyWorld.co.uk] co40 AW Invade & Annex

Domination is all I played in Arma2, and I only played a heavily modded version in offline in lan mode, saving and reloading for days until completed! I am overjoyed to see the legend continued -- Hope that this works in lan like Arma2! THANKS!!
  14. Obvious which is which - what a great improvement! Thanks for making this!!
  15. count allUnits Am I doing something wrong? The count allUnits command does not seem to be working and is returning 51 each time it is called.
  16. BF3 perfected movement and the ability to fluidly climb over obstacles. Arma has always had a more realistic feel to it with the camera shake while moving, but could benefit with allowing the player to navigate obstacles easier. Adding a jump would be nice, without the ability to bunny hop of course.
  17. The feeling of realistic scale in this version of Arma is amazing - BI devs have been working very hard and it shows!
  18. I would love to see a jump! Also, I agree that BF3 vaulting over obstacles is near perfect - as close to that smoothness would be greatly appreciated.

    Not impressed

One striking difference to me is that the Arma3 world seems to be set in a more realistic scale than Arma2. Despite the faster movement, if something is 1km away, you really feel like you traveled 1km! Also, the terrain surface is much more detailed.
  20. Arma is no more susceptible to pirating than most other games. I wouldn't worry about it. The silver lining of being heavily pirated is the increase in the popularity of the game and potentially the addons, expansions and re-issues. Given the amount of updates these wonderful devs bring to the entire arma series, any regular user will most certainly purchase a retail version. Just look at the success of the Arma3 alpha, which is still in the top ten of Steam sales despite a cracked version released within hours of the retail!
  21. Despite the tweaks listed above, there is a fundamental error in close-range AI behavior - please read and upvote the missing AI behaviors in close range Arma3 http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=3888

    Character run speed

True, but GTA4 used Euphoria middleware, which provides blended animations. This is not available in Arma3, but I would like to see running movement similar to Arma2 which was really nice. Right now it feels a little like floating over the landscape like UT3.

The trouble with getting people into Arma

I certainly agree with this point, and the ArmA experience would be better for it. It may take longer to get there, but ArmA just gets better with each version, no question.
  24. Sorry! Thanks for changing them... ---------- Post added at 03:05 ---------- Previous post was at 03:03 ---------- I love the long shadows, too, but these are just missing. paecmaker's image gives an example of Arma2 shadows which look nice, so I am betting that they just haven't been added or turned on for those shots.
  25. I was wondering if the vehicles, especially large ones such as tanks and trucks, would have cast shadows added? It seems that there is a lack of light blockage happening underneath the vehicles. The issue is very evident in this shot from the new Arma3 dev shots: http://www.bistudio.com/images/stories/arma3/screenshots/Arma3_screenshot_1202_26.jpg Perhaps they have just not been implemented yet, but vehicle shadows in the screenshot above - especially underneath the carriage - would really enhance the weight and mass of those type of objects. Just think of some nice deep shadows coupled with the newly implemented physcis! WOW! http://images.paraorkut.com/img/wallpapers/1280x1024/m/m1a1_abrams_tank_shooting_-732.jpg Arma3 is looking hot! Please add some of these vehicle shadows, I believe it will really sell the mass of all of the vehicles, especially the tanks!
