Hi all, Just a little word regarding the progress... The mod is far from being dead, a lot of work is being done on the project and things are going as planned. Thank you for your patience, you will not be disappointed. :] Sincerely, yours. TB

It is very hard to verify this information, but according to these quite old photos, the warthog was already available in grey scheme. Excluding BOH Japanese Cobra, there is no AH-1S Cobra that could replace the original model, J and F versions weren't that used during the wanted era. The only solution is to replace the cobra by the apache A, or maybe attempt to retexture BOH AH-1S to fix this issue. Regards, TB

It depends on whether initially the crew members were assigned to the vehicle in question or not, if they were assigned then they will get into it, otherwise, they will use their firearms to defend themselves. I find it more realistic like that, since, overall, soldiers have a 1 or maximum 2 speciality formations, therefore you can't just get into a vehicle and use its machinegun just as if you have done that your whole life. ;] Regards, TB

No worries about that since this is what has been done. '80s Soviet standard equipment was comparable and rather equivalent to the NATO's one in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and was even slightly better in terms of adeptness, so be sure, that the US side would not be favored anymore. Excluding the Ak-74su which causes a little dilemma, the rest of the weapons models are uniform. It has been choosen to take Inq Ak-74su model as replacement since it is rather close to the rest of used soviet weapons models. (RHS). This time, the ammunitions values haven't been modified in order to keep OFP's original feeling, only the ammo names have been changed for a matter of realism. I haven't started to polish the scripts yet, but indeed, the MG issue annoys me as well and it would be taken out unquestionably. I will modifie both of mentioned features in order to enable them in the user's action menu. Best Regards, TB

Armed Assault is becoming a 'finished product' because of the community's huge efforts, and I'm impressed by the amount of mods actually available which exclusively aim at enhancing the Game's core, paradoxally, that wasn't really the case for 'OFP' during the first years. I don't want to sound naive, but I sincerely hope that BIS technical staff would take into consideration this aspect for ArmA II. Regards, TB

I get your point and yes, certainly. But of course, this will only depend on time. Thanks for the little feedback, but unfortunately, I accidentally deleted the .psd file so I can't take out the star, unless if I would find something better in order to cover it. The GUI doesn't look that dark in game, though. ;] Regards, TB

Hi everyone, Sorry for the kind of late reply, I have been busy with real life occupations and I spend my whole free time with building the new '85 project in a faithful and representative way, which makes my girlfriend rather upset, heh. By the way, here is a first pic showing the new GUI in its final status. More pics to come soon, since the project is nearing completion. I guess I modified some scripts when I was attempting to make the MOD compatible with BIS missions/campaigns, I'm afraid I disabled the vehicles feature since they were probably causing some kind of troubles. This is a good question: - It is true that ArmA became a new game due to the huge effort of the community during the last weeks (Better effects, friendly-cpu vegetation models, realistic features, amazing animation transitions, gameplay improvements and much more). But I will rather wait for ArmA II, as it would be released the next year or within 'Maximum 2 years', and the potential of the incoming version, seems rather promising. Thank you for your interest, though. Just round the corner... keep patient. ;] Surprisingly, I haven't tested it yet, But I will check it out to see whether it would be implemented or not. Cheers for the kind words and the continued support Big-Rooney, the list you established is very close to the one I did, but you have some inspiring suggestions that might be pretty interesting if they would be taken into consideration. ;] Yes, I will for sure, modifie some slight aspects of SLX, since several people complain about them. But realistically speaking, believe me, it is hard like hell to make a 'decent' use of your rifle after some intense physical effort. Thanks for the kind words, though. And again, if you have Photos/Videos/Informations/Suggestions or whatever else about the '85 era, feel free to post them, or send them to my mail adress, any support in this regards, would be greatly appreciated. I have already collected several informations and media files regarding this period, but the more I have, the better the project would be. Thanks. Best Regards, TB

Thus far, there have been several mods aiming at increasing the 'realism level' of COD series, I'm sure the same will happen to the newly released COD 4. Regarding ArmA, despite being a nice and good looking simulator, it would have been much better if BIS had focused on 'little details' that increase the gameplay. (Sounds, Animated weapons Models [bipods, Tripods...], Shouting voices, Realistic Radio Chatter... and much more). regards, TB

A little Poll to make sure of people's choices
Thunderbird posted a topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hi, OFP's community is not what it was previously but it is still active and there are numerous people who keep playing the best PC Infantry simulator ever. In this regards, with some slight real life changes, it has been chosen to stay in this great scene and attempt to release new projects. Since there are various requests in the FFUR thread regarding several different 'themes' and due to the fact it is impossible to carry out all of them, your support would be greatly appreciated in choosing the theme you would like to see the most. Please take your time before making your choice and make sure of it. Thank you very much. Regards, TB -
A little Poll to make sure of people's choices
Thunderbird replied to Thunderbird's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Sure, But it is not as simple as it might seem, since the core scripts that are used by the MOD are behind most of troubles, they sometimes need just some adjustements, but in some cases, you have to take them out to make the mod working correctly. I will try to make 2 Group of configs for the upcoming project, with the hope that the MOD would work online. I always wanted to edit the original islands in order to add more grass, fix the trees, figure out 'objects' issues, but never got the chance to learn more about islands tools, if time would allow it, I will see what I can do in this regads. Thank you for your interest. Regards, TB -
Hi, Are the vehicles from 'extra' addons or original to the game? In case they are addons, then you have to add the Slx_gl3 init line to the vehicle's class. Honestly, I keep BIS heads only for one reason: - Compatibility with all 'Soldier/Human' models that have been released thus far, since implementing Llauma heads causes a face problem with extra addons. If people are ready to exclusively live with the 'soldiers units' that would be available in the mod then I would replace the original heads by the new ones, it is completely up to you, feel free to post your opinion. Thank you all for the kind words, the mod is almost finished but I need some time to make sure it works flawlessly with no bugs, since there is a quite big list of vehicles and units, heh. :] Regards, TB

Modern Combat Mod - SLX Released
Thunderbird replied to Big-Rooney's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Again, nice work, truthfully, I'm rather impressed by the way you work on your mod, it seems that we have quite similar inspirations regarding some aspects. I'm sure that with some more efforts in terms of the edition of the menu 'Rscdisplaymainmenu' and 'The first splash screen' and this mod would be almost perfect. - Splash screen: Too much of writings, just take out the 'Modern war crisis' from the stringtable.csv, it seems rather unnecessary, maybe include a slightly photoshoped picture instead of the current one, which seems a bit 'simple'. ;] - Main Menu GUI: Make the letters a bit smaller, perhaps include a picture there too. - Mission Editor GUI: Change the font, it doesn't fit at all, that is why I didn't keep it from my last projects. - Little goodies (Mouse arrow, Aiming Cursors...): Maybe take out FFUR ones and carry out yours in order to customize your mod, unless you find the current ones good enough (which in my opinion, do seriously need an update, heh.) Of course, these suggestions exclusively depend on your own taste and opinion, if you find them good then don't feel the need to change them. Otherwise, I like how you put things properly in the config, that's the way to follow! I'm pretty optimistic about this mod's future, keep it up. ;] Regards, TB -
Yes, it works, simply replace the original plants.pbo by the new one generated by kegetys (make a backup if you don't trust the addon's authour enough, heh) in ArmA\Addons. Then install the new vegetation Fix, it would use kegetys lowplants to get installed. regards, TB

It is too early to release a list of vehicles since the vehicles haven't been replaced yet, but I will publish one as soon as the mod would be nearing completion. As previously stated, I will randomly work on the 3 most chosen projects in the poll, I started with the '85 theme because I have a slight preference to the cold war crisis. No worries about the rest of projects, though. ;] Regards, TB

Hi, Thank you for your great interest, suggestions and reports, your replies have been copied/pasted and registered under 'My WIP folder', and they will be taken into consideration as soon as possible. This doesn't mean that they will all be done, I will check them out to see whether there may be a way to carry them out or not, before letting you know about the result. But at the moment, I'm working very hard on the '85 Project (2008 Edition), a lot of research is done in this area to know more about this era in order to make the MOD as close as possible to the reality, but without breaking BIS missions and campaigns. So excluding the features and models that have already been included, expect to see: - A Free Lag Mod using a huge amount of realistic features and effects. - A complete set of '85 vehicles variants (A la WGL). If you have some suggestions regarding this theme, feel free to post them below, any help in this regards, would be much appreciated! 1985 was a great year full of significant and striking events, the cold war is a theme that should deserve a special attention! Moreover, it is OFP's main theme and is probably one of the main aspects that made OFP so unique! Stay tuned. Best Regards, TB

ArmA, with its numerous visual qualities and slight AI enhancements doesn't reach OFP's level in terms of gameplay experience, not only due to the huge amount of releases, but you can never get bored with the existing campaigns, they are much more immersive than ArmA's, even with QG. I have a decent system as well, but in my humble judgement, it would be wise to stay in this community, at least, until ArmA would get a better status, but I'm afraid this will never happen. regards, TB

A little Poll to make sure of people's choices
Thunderbird replied to Thunderbird's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Do not worry about that since the planning of the 3 favorite packs have already been established, although being still basic, they overall show the key 'Features and Changes' that would be available in every pack. And, thank you all for your participation in this poll, it shows pretty well what people are interested in, to be honest, I'm not surprised of some choices, though. However, don't expect a massive'n huge release since I will make sure to focus as much as attention as possible on every 'theme'. You can also expect some new features and a slightly revised search feature in terms of scripting in the near future. (Ability to carry out 'earthworks' before Ambushes...) Regarding some of your 'theme' suggestions, they sound really interesting but I have to make some decisions by taking into consideration people's main choices, and if I’m slightly partial to the project as well. :] Regards, TB -
Modern Combat Mod - SLX Released
Thunderbird replied to Big-Rooney's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Overall, a nice mod pack with a solid implementation of Llauma heads for people interested in this feature, regarding the rest, it seems to be an enhanced version of the current 'FFUR SLX 2007' pack, with more additions here and there. Regarding the design of the GUI, some adjustements might be needed, especially in terms of the editor, just take out the current font and increase the size of the letters in the resource.cpp file to make them slightly more visible. regards, TB -
Make your choice here. Thank you all. ;] regards, TB
-
Hi, Your suggestions are very appreciated here, and indeed, some themes might be very interesting and out of the ordinary, but since Operation Flashpoint is mainly centered on the US forces, having other nations instead might break 'a little something' as noticed with the 'Euro / Asian' packs, because intriguingly, people lost interest in them pretty quickly and rather chose other 'classical themes' ('85 and '06/'07). And believe me, I would be the first one to not put US forces as key representative army of a game since almost every game that pops up on the shelf, comes with that 'Boring-commercial principle'. Regards, TB
-
Thank you for the link, I know about the ROC MOD since I cooperated a while ago with the mod's foundator and skilled leader 'Andy', in order to modifie a package of his scripts for one of the previous FFUR packs. Concerning the use of Taiwanese as resistance might be, indeed, a noteworthy idea but some models might require a slight update to fit with the rest of 3D units. ;] regards, TB

I doubt that the aim of this game was to focus on Realism/ with all characteristics and properties that go with a 'decent' realistic game. COD series are well known, I even don't understand why people discuss their lack of 'realism'. However, unless being a completely devoted 'realism-maniac', you can't exclusively live with simulators. Regarding the game in question, it is a good game of its type. regards, TB
-
An important aspect of this unique game is its feeling and the immersion provided by its campaigns, and I'm slightly getting some difficulties to find a successor with the same level than OFP. Having tried out several games/simulators during the last years, they all seemed good but they didn't bring the same 'little thing' that made OFP so different and exceptional. I will make sure to preserve it since, this property was slightly neglected with the previous packs due to the focus on technical facets. Thank you for your interest and suggestions, keep'em coming! :] regards, TB
-
Indeed, such additions might bring a lot to a game like ArmA, and I sincerely think that time comes for BIS to seriously focuse on polishing such aspects, not only almost all of the features you put are doable, but coming directly from BIS and not from the community would represent a little '+'. Regards, TB

Hi, cjuraman: You put a nice selection there and there are some great and very inspiring elements that would be added for sure to the main list I established. This will be taken into consideration. Sorry, I can't really answer accurately right now, since the upgrade of the main '85 Pack requires a lot of work, (Because technically, it wouldn't be an upgrade of the previous project, but a total new MOD pack). Again, and I'm sure the idea is 'interesting' but it would only depend on time. Yes, good suggestions. I would be tempted to say: "too much of work for nothing" due to the fact that this might require a lot of work in terms of scripting, GUI implementation... etc But it is not impossible. Yes, there is no problem about that. That is what is expected to be done as stated below: Regards, TB
