    Moscow attack kills 40

No, it would become an Al Qaeda base immediately. The militants would keep the civilians quiet and we'd have another Taliban-like situation on our hands. When they'd gain enough power, they'd attack neighboring countries.

You're missing my main point. It's not the Chechen civilians that are leading this movement. It is militants, and outside interests. The civilians have no choice in the matter, they're caught between Russians who will execute them, and the militants who will do the same if they think someone is a collaborator. Not that there's that many Chechen militants left at this point. The civilians didn't want to fight a suicidal battle for Chechen independence, they didn't want Chechnya to become an ally for Al Qaeda and part of global Jihad. I get the feeling they didn't want to fight Russia for independence AT ALL. The militants, who happen to also profit from the terrorism have no regard for the welfare of civilians, probably less so than the Russians do. They use the excuse of Chechen nationalism to mask their true agenda. The Chechen militants are not Palestinians, they're not Iraqis, they are much closer to something like the Taliban, and they cannot be allowed to gain power because it would mean Al Qaeda would gain an entire country to freely operate from again. Hey, I used to think Putin was lying about the Chechens too, but after seeing how the Chechens operate, their ties to Al Qaeda and global Jihad, I know that they're up to no good.

    Do it like bas!

You need to add an alpha channel to your graphic, save it as a .tga and then convert it to a .paa in Texview. That's if you're adding these graphics to OFP, otherwise, I'm not sure what you're asking... no transparency in Photoshop? Photoshop is all about transparency, read the manual or help file.

    Unsung sky addon

I've also been making a skypack for over a month now which I have yet to publically release. I posted screenshots earlier. I'm replacing everything including the floating clouds and rain. Lots of trial and error, OFP's engine is very aggravating.

T-90 tank addon, does it exist?

You know, what could be done is add tank "cooking" to all the tanks in OFP. A chance for the tank to catch fire when hit, then you'd have to bail out even if the tank was still able to operate. That could give the M1 an advantage in something other than just armor differences. If a tank is burning, the AI should bail out automatically. The M1 could have a lesser chance of burning than the T-90, etc. Plus I think it would look cool seeing tanks catching fire then exploding a short while later. Maybe this could be done in a script, w/o needing addons.

How do you feel about the Basques and the IRA? How about FARC? Anyway, Chechnya has been part of Russia for almost 400 years, it's not like the Soviet Union conquered it, it's a part of Russia itself.

Like I said earlier in this thread, Chechen locals have little to do with what's going on. Far fewer of them wanted a revolution than it seems judging from the militants' propaganda. The militants are trained and funded by outside Islamic interests. If you look on the Chechens' own website, they promote Jihad not just against Russia, but also America. It's no coincidence because the same people behind Al Qaeda are behind the Chechen terrorists. It's also pretty sad that America actually supported these people before 9/11. Chechen Terrorists' Website Look at the links on the page, some of them go directly to pro-Al Qaeda sites like jihadonline.com, that ought to tell you something.

Canada will give Quebec independence? Yeah, I'd like to see that. While you're at it, will America allow Mexico to annex California? Then what's next? Critics of Chechnya always seem to forget that the Chechens restarted the war, not Russia. They invaded Dagestan and attacked neighboring territories, they also have a presence in Georgia. The fact is, Chechen civilians have little to do with what's going on. They don't want "independence" as much as they want to stop being terrorized. The Chechen terrorists are coordinated and supported by outside interests (including the CIA, up until 9/11 gave the CIA a nice present from Allah), not the Chechen locals, the locals are the victims in all this from all sides.

I have a niave question about this addon. If we make an SP mission with it, will it work without the addon?

T-90 tank addon, does it exist?

There's more to tanks than just armor, speed and firepower these days. For one thing, you in your T-55 will have to be stationary to fire at the M1, while the M1 can fire on the move. I wouldn't want to be standing still in a T-55 on a modern battlefield unless it's hidden inside a building or something. That's not mentioning the optics, nightvision, IR, laser rangefinder, etc. A T-55 can't even see and target the M1 before the M1 will see and target the T-55. AFAIK every single M1 lost in "Enduring Freedom" was lost due to ATGM missiles. Iraqi armor didn't stand a chance because they couldn't target US armor before getting hit first every time. So if you want to take on modern tanks, dump your old, obsolete tanks, and get some good ATGMs.

Intel forced to wake up and smell the coffee

How were they suckered? AMD's 64bit chips are in the same price range as Pentiums, and have similar performance in 32bit apps. You basically get 64bit support for free, which is great if you're running 64bit Linux, like on a server or for scientific apps. AMD 64 FX-51 = $750 Intel P4EE = $970 AMD 64 3400+ = $400 Intel P4C = $300

  21. Wow, this is going to be gigantic, there hasn't been anything like this since the USSR collapsed. I hope someone takes some pictures. Maybe they'll show some new weapons too? Could this be the first time we see the Black Eagle in action? Or maybe a new fighter? Russia Planning Nuclear Forces Exercise Russia Planning Maneuvers of Its Nuclear Forces With Test-Firing of Missiles and Bomber Flights The Associated Press MOSCOW Jan. 30 — Russia's nuclear forces reportedly are preparing their largest maneuvers in two decades, an exercise involving the test-firing of missiles and flights by dozens of bombers in a massive simulation of an all-out nuclear war. President Vladimir Putin is expected to personally oversee the maneuvers, which are apparently aimed at demonstrating the revival of the nation's military might and come ahead of Russian elections in March. The business newspaper Kommersant said the exercise was set for mid-February and would closely resemble a 1982 Soviet exercise dubbed the "seven-hour nuclear war" that put the West on edge. Official comments on the upcoming exercise have been sketchy. The chief of Russia's Strategic Missile Forces, Col.-Gen. Nikolai Solovtsov, was quoted by the Interfax-Military News Agency as saying the planned maneuvers would involve several launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles in various regions of Russia, but he wouldn't give further details. A Defense Ministry spokesman refused to comment on the reports. The Russian military typically says little about upcoming exercises. Kommersant said the maneuvers would involve Tu-160 strategic bombers test-firing cruise missiles over the northern Atlantic. Analysts describe such an exercise as an imitation of a nuclear attack on the United States. Other groups of bombers will fly over Russia's Arctic regions and test-fire missiles at a southern range near the Caspian Sea, the newspaper said. As part of the exercise, the military is planning to conduct several launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles, including one from a Russian nuclear submarine in the Barents Sea, the Kommersant report said. The military also plans to launch military satellites from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and the Plesetsk launch pad in northern Russia a simulation of the replacement of satellites lost in action, Kommersant said. Russia's system warning of an enemy missile attack and a missile defense system protecting Moscow will also be involved in the exercise, it added. Pavel Felgenhauer, an independent military analyst, said the military has regularly held nuclear exercises that were timed to coincide with the annual test-firing of aging Soviet-built missiles. "It has been a routine affair, but it can be expanded if they want a show," he said. Ivan Safranchuk, head of the Moscow office of the Center for Defense Information, a Washington-based think-tank, said the maneuvers would further strengthen Putin's popularity ahead of the March 14 presidential election he is expected to win easily. Putin has repeatedly pledged to rebuild Russia's military might and restore pride to the demoralized service. When he ran for his first term in 2000, he flew as a second pilot in a fighter jet and later donned naval officer's garb on a visit to a nuclear submarine images that played well with many voters who are nostalgic for Soviet global power and military prestige. "This exercise will make a great show, with Putin receiving reports from military commanders," Safranchuk told The Associated Press. Kommersant said Moscow had notified Washington about the exercise, describing it as part of efforts to fend off terror threats even though it imitates the Cold War scenario of an all-out war. "The exercise follows the old scenario, and casting it as anti-terror is absurd," Safranchuk said. Putin's support for the United States following the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks bolstered relations with Washington and helped broker a new U.S.-Russian nuclear arms reduction deal and a Russia-NATO partnership agreement in 2002. But the U.S.-Russian honeymoon has soured lately over Moscow's criticism of the war in Iraq , U.S. concerns about authoritarian trends in the Kremlin's domestic policy, and Russia's perceived attempts to assert its authority over ex-Soviet neighbors.

    Ecp released!

I think the exact opposite is needed. How can you have a "realistic" wargame without gore? If soldiers trained on sterilized games without blood they'd have mental breakdowns on the battlefield when they saw the real thing. What I am against is cartoonish violence, blood that looks like paint, and Hollywood explosions. Now for a good demonstration of gore done right, download the Far Cry demo. Shoot a dead body in that game on full auto at close range and watch what happens.

    The Iraq thread 3

Only a despot like Saddam could unite Iraq because Iraq is an artificial state created out of groups of people who didn't want anything to do with each other. Pretty much anyone else will be blown up shortly after taking office. "Ladies and gentlemen, the president of Iraq... " *BOOM* "Ladies and gentlemen, the vice president of Iraq... " *BOOM* " ...and now, we will have a short intermission while we prepare a new election." Iraq isn't ready for "Democracy" yet because Iraqis have no intention of being Democratic, they're only looking to seize power for their own faction. I'm betting that civil war is going to be the only thing that comes out of it. Maybe NATO will get involved, we'll see. <-- The Great $atan

    Computer troubles

Is this a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer? The silver & grey one with 5 buttons? There is a problem with the cable connection on the earlier versions. I had one of those, it would cut out and you had to move the capable around to get it to start up again. Sometimes you had to unplug it and plug it back in. There was no way to fix it except get a newer version where they fixed the connection. If you bought it recently, M$ might give you a replacement.

    Hardware advice needed

A 4200 is good enough for OFP, especially if you overclock it. Without AA/AF, it's faster than a 5600. You won't see much of a difference with newer cards unless you use AA/AF because OFP is a DX7 game and doesn't take advantage of the capabilities of newer cards. With the setup listed, I dunno what would give a significant improvement in this case. The limitation is the motherboard, CPU & memory combo, not just one thing. Memory holds back a new CPU purchase because you'll need PC2700 at least. If you get faster memory, then you could TRY to overclock the CPU a couple of hundred MHz, but I have doubts about that motherboard being able to handle it. I'd save up my money 'til all three of those things could be replaced.
