    New sky preview

I still have the older version, I could release it later. I dunno how much more orange I could get the sunset, but the sky will definitely be darker than this preview when I finish tweaking the colors. Drow: ok, I'll have to remember that.

    Shellshock: nam '67 must see!!!!

Maybe if people knew what it was really like, they'd have more respect for those who have faced it in real life, and think twice about supporting sabre-rattling politicians. Why is violence in war sims an insult? Violence done for cheap thrills is an insult, violence the way it was done in Black Hawk Down and Full Metal Jacket is a genuine attempt to show the truth so that people know what war really is. I already said earlier, the head on a stick is sensationalism, but the pic that was removed of the body mutilated by an explosion, that's a reality of war and people should know bombs do that to you, not just harmlessly throw you up in the air like in the A-Team or something.

    Shellshock: nam '67 must see!!!!

I think they're exaggerating some things, and I don't expect true authenticity from a game that's being marketed to the console crowd. But I think the gore in combat, not just for atmosphere in the story is good, and is necessary in a combat game to a certain degree. At the very least, there should be blood spurts and some "gibs" flying when people are shot, and when they're blown up, the bodies should at the very least be mangled and bloodied. Besides this gore issue, everyone seemed to have missed how good that engine looks. The explosion effects, natural scenery, etc. This was also just the pre-alpha version. Still, it's not going to be another OFP because you play it in 3rd person, I just hope BIS is going to put out something that will not seem wimpy compared to this game.

    New sky preview

It's both hand drawn and from photos. I also tried using Bryce 3D and Terragen but those looked too computer-generated. Here's the updated version, I toned down the clouds and made it more like the original OFP sky. Still tweaking the colors, almost done:

    New sky preview

Yeah, that one cloud sticks out a bit too much. But in-game it gave the sky a real "3D" look though, like there are layers of clouds. I think I'll take it out, and tone down the clouds in general so it doesn't look so "painted".

    Ak model spetznats-b

It's called AKS-47U, was nicknamed by the troops in Afgan as "muhaboika". AFAIK "muhaboika" means a flyswatter? Nice name.

    Will this be our future?

Nothing to worry about. Just means that crooks like George Bush and Osama Bin Laden will be out of business. There are a dozen alternatives to oil, we've known about some of them for over a hundred years, the only reason we don't use them is politics and the cost now that we're addicted to gasoline to switch over. People seem to think gasoline is some magic substance, it's just that the infrastructure is there and makes it cheaper to distribute at this point. But when you look at things like Iraq, you have to wonder, is it really cheaper in the long run?

    Joint franco-british aircraft carrier project

The Admiral Ghorshkov is a ship, not a class, and was sold to India, they mean the Kiev-class. globalsecurity.org lists the Kiev and the Minsk as two carriers sold to China. A third one "sold as scrap" to South Korea was later also bought by China instead of being scrapped. I have heard claims that one of these is being built into a giant floating casino, but this is probably a cover story by China? Where did China hide three carriers anyway? Or is China refurbishing *three* carriers not newsworthy to the mainstream media? Kiev Class Carriers India's Refurbishment of the Admiral Ghorshkov

Build your own private army with ebay!

There's already a large market for mercenary pilots. In most cases you will be working with a warlord, intelligence agency, smugglers, or a drug cartel. They also do have their own aircraft in many cases. For some jobs, like smuggling cocaine into America, all you need is a Cessna. It's more based around evading the authorities and delivering cargo than combat, but in Africa whenever one of those civil wars break out they do have use for Hind pilots: Got Gunship, Will Travel

    War against terror

An interesting development in the other war on terror. Either the "KGB" has struck again, or this is a sign that OPEC is abandoning the Chechens in exchange for Russian support. I suppose it's also possible that Israel's intelligence agency, MOSSAD, could have something to do with this since they have an even longer record of assassinations in the middle-east than the CIA or "KGB": Ex-Chechen President Yandarbiyev Killed Ex-Chechen President Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev Dies in Qatar Car Explosion, Interior Ministry Says The Associated Press DOHA, Qatar Feb. 13 — Former Chechen President Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, wanted in Russia for terrorist ties and linked to al-Qaida, died Friday after an explosion ripped apart his car in the Qatari capital, the Interior Ministry said. Yandarbiyev, also a poet and children's author, was killed in the 12:45 p.m. blast, which also injured his 13-year-old son, an official at the ministry told the Qatar News Agency. A doctor at Hamad General Hospital said Yandarbiyev died en route, and his son was in critical condition. They were the only two people brought to the hospital, the doctor said. Earlier, another official at the hospital had said earlier that two bodyguards were dead on arrival. The Interior Ministry was investigating the incident, the news agency said. The Russian Embassy had no immediate comment. Russia has been seeking the extradition of Yandarbiyev, who has been living in Qatar for more than three years. He was considered a key link in the Chechen rebels' finance network, channeling funds from abroad. His death came one week after a bomb exploded in Moscow's subway, killing at least 41 people and injuring more than 100 others in a suicide attack that President Vladimir Putin blamed on Chechen separatist rebels. Boris Labusov, a spokesman for Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, a top KGB successor, said his agency had no involvement in Yandarbiyev's death, according to the ITAR-Tass news agency. The Interfax news agency quoted Chechnya's Kremlin-backed President Akhmad Kadyrov as saying, "Yandarbiyev was the main ideologue of the separatists, and therefore of the terrorist organizations bringing Chechnya to such severe consequences. He is guilty of everything that has happened." Arab satellite channels Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya reported that two people were killed in the explosion. Al-Jazeera said the explosion occurred after Yandarbiyev had prayed at a mosque in the upscale residential area of al-Dafnah, a northern suburb of Doha. He got into his private car, and the explosion went off at a road intersection 300 yards away. The station showed a badly mangled and burned SUV, with only its white fender still recognizable. Security forces and a sniffer dog worked the area as a body, wrapped in white sheet, was loaded into a waiting ambulance. Born in 1952, Yandarbiyev became vice president of the Russian republic of Chechnya under separatist president Dzhokhar Dudayev, and served as acting president of de facto independent Chechnya in 1996-97. He headed the rebel delegation to talks with then-Russian President Boris Yeltsin and then Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin in 1996. Yandarbiyev opened a Chechen embassy in Kabul and a consulate in Kandahar during the reign of the hard-line Taliban militia. The United Nations last year put Yandarbiyev on a list of people with alleged links to the al-Qaida terrorist network. The U.S. government also put Yandarbiyev on a list of international terrorists subject to U.S. financial sanctions. Yandarbiyev denied links between Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network and Chechen rebels. Russian forces withdrew from Chechnya in 1996 after a disastrous 20-month war with rebels, leaving the republic largely lawless and running its own affairs. Troops swept in again in 1999 after Chechnya-based militants launched raids into a neighboring region and after some 300 people were killed in apartment building explosions that Russian officials blamed on Chechen separatists. Yandarbiyev was a nationalist poet and children's book author, and he became one of the most prominent proponents of radical Islam among the rebels. He came in third in de facto independent Chechnya's 1997 presidential elections, behind moderate Aslan Maskhadov and fiery rebel Shamil Basayev. Yandarbiyev is the most prominent Chechen separatist to have been killed since the 2002 death of warlord Omar Ibn al Khattab, who reportedly was poisoned.

    Vitapc pack 1.1 finale

Argh, I celebrated too soon. When you play as commander of the BMP or BMD you can't get the gunner to shoot, and sometimes the cursor disappears when you target something. I target an object, when I tell the gunner to fire, the turret swings away and I can no longer move the commander's turret. Sometimes the target box would even display in the wrong position, not over the targeted object. I switched to the gunner's seat, shooting from there works ok, as well as when the AI controls the vehicle. I'm pretty sure this is a not a problem with my config, this wasn't happening with other vehicles, someone else confirm if this is a bug please.

    Moscow attack kills 40

Ok, maybe I misunderstood you, I agree that is the case. So far the ones placing bombs have been the wives of those killed in Chechnya (if the media is to be believed). How are they different? That's interesting because these well-intentioned Chechens that formed the government still became terrorists, allied with Al Qaeda, and attacked neighboring countries FIRST, *without provocation from Russia*. Or are you one of those people who believe the "KGB" sent its own agents to stage an attack in Dagestan and bomb all those Russian houses, take a hospital hostage, etc?

    Moscow attack kills 40

This is a very different situation from what you describe. How is it different? Both Chechens and KLA are Muslims, both had the help of western powers and Islamic groups to rebel against their "evil" Orthodox Christian "oppressors", and most importantly, both were militants involved in organized crime who did not represent the majority of their own people. Both the KLA and the Chechens have a long history of crime against their own people they were supposedly fighting to free. Half of this game is about America and Europe seizing formerly Soviet-held territory. That's business as usual I suppose, the only thing is, they did it by allying with the Al Qaeda types, and now we had 9/11 because of it. Now we're in Iraq cleaning up the mess years of this policy created. Chechens, Albanians, Colombians, Mexicans, Palestinians, Koreans, Indonesians, Africans, etc, they're all pawns in a bigger game. Those "freedom fighters" you see only need to change uniforms in order to be classified as "terrorists".

    Russian election candidate goes missing

IMHO, the Oligarchs deserve everything they get for robbing the country blind, so at this point I congratulate Putin on a job well done, and I hope Berezofsky is eventually caught, castrated, and hung in Red Square for a CNN photo op. Better the KGB takes over robbing the country, at least they're doing it for the country's benefit, not purely their own benefit. These oligarchs are like the Ken Lays of Russia, I wish we had someone like Putin to deal with the crooks in America. Instead, we have people going after insignificant things like Martha Stewart, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson's breast, etc. How about all the billions Halliburton stole over the years? Is Janet Jackson's breast really a worse crime than that?

Guide: flash your 9800np/pro to 9800xt!

You can flash your Nvidia 5900s to 5950s too. The results vary, some can overclock higher with it, others report lower benchmarks even at higher speeds because of "relaxed memory timings." The 9500 no-pro to 9700 pro flash, now that was something else. 5900->5950 Flash Trick

    Vitapc pack 1.1 finale

Wow, this is an excellent collection of addons, now I can delete all those seperate vehicle, weapon and soldiers addons that have been cluttering up my addons folder. Also, good choice to use standard BIS mags whenever possible too! More addon makers should consider this over their egos and custom naming schemes because it's much easier for mission designers. I wanted to make another comment, but since it's the no whining release, I'm not going to say anything about the lack of wound textures.

    Custom skys

I'm on the 4th revision now. I don't like how it's been coming out and started over from scratch after finding a better way to get it done. In the screenshots it might look good, but there are some things in-game that I am trying to improve. Most notably the horizon transition, how the stormy and cloudy skies blend into each other and their colors, what it looks like during the day and at sunset and sunrise, improved rain, floating clouds that blend in with the background better... lots of little things like that. So this is why it's taking so long.

    The Iraq thread 3

Would you like to tell us where you got these figures from? It's just common sense. Why would anyone else support him? They'd have to be mad. Obviously I was being facetious, I know other people support him, but they don't know any better. Bush is a crook, he serves the interests of corporations before that of people. History will show this to the world. Mark my words, as soon as Kerry is elected president in November, all of Bush-Cheney's secrets and double-dealing are going to come spilling out.

    2d desktops finally leaving?

You'd need a 3D input device of some sort in order for 3D interfaces to be useful. Something like a VR glove and a true 3D VR display that projects things all around you. Now then, that would be something.
