Nice idea, it really looks a bit like screenshots from that great Mafia game, and the brilliant atmosphere that was in it.

Looking good. I like the thermal sight, flashlight and IR laser.

Arma 2 quick look feature, I guess this qualifies as media coverage. http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-arma-ii/17-1015/ Jeff Gerstmann cracks me up :D -
Mouth covers does not help a bit, at least thats what I have heard. While the virus is not as dangerous as, say, bird flu, its still a good idea to wash your hands regularly and not share bottles etc. It spreads fast.

I have to say that PR is quite excellent, even though the recoil maybe is a bit over the top on some weapons. Link to PR(thanks to heatseeker): http://www.realitymod.com/

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Mod 2
sparks50 replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
May want to throw in a warning first, there is plenty of well meaning people who have never read the forum rules. Anyway, as long as we are actually discussing ACE2, I think this thread has business being open. The ACE1 discussion thread on the other hand turned into a thread of pure whining and date requests, which is why it was locked. -
A fun detail is that you can order the squad to target yourself using "target/others" and then tell them to fire, at which point they will all execute you, their leader. You have to give it to them for never second-guessing orders :D The AI can enter buildings, but they will rarely choose to do so in their current configuration. Custom scripts helps.

I think part of the reason Arma 2 has been so high on the charts of large central webshops like Amazon, Steam etc, is because it has been so hard to find it local gaming and web shops in time. So people go for the big suppliers instead, to get their game. -
There are several countries in the world in similar situations, it does not make us responsible to "fix" their countries. It is a "war" with many grey zones, but there has to be alternative ways to fight the threath of terror.

A lot more tax money will be spent on it too. Tax driven in by the principle of force on individuals. And Monkey, thats 15 british soldiers the last 10 days.

Strange, VON works perfectly for me. The only "problem" I encounter is that people sometimes do not raise the output volume of their microphone sufficently, or have not raised the radio volum in sounds options sufficently. After I tell them to fix either, they succesfully do so.

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!

My argument is that in the real world, the damage scenarios to the unlucky wounded would vary less than the speed of the bullet alone would indicate. -
A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!
sparks50 replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Arma has a nasty tendency to lower the dammage given from long range shots, which is especially visible with the ACE wounding system. Personally I do not belive in this, a bullet should give about the same dammage no matter if the shooter is 100m or 1000m away. -
Arma 2 "public" mission makers could learn a lot from PR. The jump-in accessability and teamplay that is encouraged, makes tactical teamplay very much in reach for a lot of people. Missions like Domination on the other hand(great mission, just not my kind of mission) has the same accessability, but does not encourage teamplay. Now, "hardcore" no-respawn missions tends to give teamplay, but it is also the root of much frustration and does not have the same jump-in and play for five minutes attraction that Domination has. PR provides a wonderful balance between tactical teamplay and accessability.

I dunno, I cant remember one single situation from OFP-ARMA-ARMA2 where a bayonet would have been to my benefit.

Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
sparks50 replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Another huge issue is that without the crosshair, you cant identify your team mates. This makes "veteran" mode almost completely broken in teamwork with voice (COOP), because you cant see where the guy talking, or where your leader is etc. In real life you would be able to recognize people in your squad who you have worked with for possibly months by faces, body language and shape, voice etc. In Arma they are all generic avatars, and nobody cares about remembering face features that are hard if not impossible to spot during a high intensity combat situation. -
Dslyecxi's ArmA2 Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures Guide Published

the guide is written(except for the ace part) for an addon-less Arma 2. Why would it weer off into addon/mission making? -
Suggestion: Get some black voice actors next time

Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
sparks50 replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I like the crosshair, It fixes the depth vision that a game cant recreate from real life(IRL you get a good feeling of where your rifle is pointing) and It makes TrackIR usage less confusing. The only problem I have is that it is way too accurate. Remove the center dot and add some inaccuracy to it(even COD has this) and the aim from hip wouldnt be pixel perfect anymore. -
ACE added a limit to this, that I am in favor of. You cant spin quickly around on your belly, unless you stop aiming and use your hands and feet(movement keys) to assist you.
-
I would most definably recommend yomas addon sync, easy to use, full of functionality and works with both Armed Assault and Arma 2. You can also view the serverlist and instantly join games. http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/yoma-addonsync2009

I guess your gonna have to wait for the ACE2 mod :) And I agree, adjustable sniper scopes(and adjustable grenade launchers too) is very important when you need the first shot to hit(because after the first shot the enemy will dive for cover). As demonstrated by the ACE mod in Armed Assault, it really is useful for game play, and not just some useless military-sim-geek-gizmo that it may sound like. Also, it does not increase difficulty for beginners, because the adjustment is option able to use and can easily be ignored.
