ArmA 2 (Cant finish installing)
simulacra replied to Kandrat's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
So, I guess I better send 505 games a bill for my new dvd-drive then? There are no model specific req's in the "minimum requirements" and if their shoddy installer doesn't work on some models are they obliged to inform the customer. Maybe it's time for a class act law suit against thaT sorry excuse for a publisher? -
BlackOps and desert mercs
simulacra replied to schnapsdrosel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Isn't the M8 all but discontinued? -
Excellent, all we need now are bullet hit textures, modders, get on it! ;)
-
ARMA II & OA available from Sprocket, also BAF and PMC DLCs!
simulacra replied to Placebo's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
I don't get it, why are the boxed copies with prints and shipping to stores all over the world way cheaper than digital downloads, I'd love to buy arma 2 off steam, but 48 euro when the boxed copy costs around 39 euros is just stupid, problem is, there are no boxed copies available ANYWHERE. -

Is the langauge situation like arma or can you choose english if you wish?

Why is the northwest end of the runway facing a mountain? The approach procedures for that field would be hellish ;)

I cant believe how ugly the TIR5 is compared to TIR4, frpm subtle and sexy to overdesigned space ship...

Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | NO discussion here!
simulacra replied to EricM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Why would they? If BIS holds a press event, the publication rights are clearly stated by BIS and any material that a publication captures belongs to them, not BIS. -

Dualcore support equals quadcore support, it's more of a multi core support rather than just dual core, unless BI did something wrong -
first person view /head wobble in latest trailer
simulacra replied to Sandmeister's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I like the headbob, I have no problems with simulation sickness, so I'll keep it on, and from what I learned, yes, your vision do get blurry when you're moving fast. -
ArmA2 factions: What's the NAPA faction?
simulacra replied to ricnunes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Many factions, small area. I'm not seeing how the scope of a conflict with realistic insertion times can portrayed when the enemy base is literally behind the next hill. From after seeing the map och chernarus and seeing how big the airport is, I'm getting a cramped feeling... -
"Arma" brand impeding on Arma2's success?
simulacra replied to BLSmith2112's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I still prefer the name "Armed Assault", Arma sounds... daft, unintelligent. -
Why cant we dl any of the videos? There are links, but the vids are always removed...

Arma 2 - interview This video shows a disappointing but hopefully temporary "feature", you can shoot a car until it explodes. I'd accept grenades blowing up cars, but not a spray of 5.56, even in best case scenarios with tracer rounds it'd just start to burn after a while, and that's not something you can rely on. But still, minor nitpick, but having tanks blow up by firing a last shot from a rifle is unacceptable though, hopefully that was the first thing that BIS fixed for Arma 2. EDIT: Will ew get realistic cities in Arma 2? just like we've seen from VBS2? VBS2 Screen

Vex: what did your crash look like? I've been having problems myself with dtarting my sprocket bought version, no matter what I do the startup crashes because there's an error in an animation file...
-
Here's the error I got Vista 32, Arma Gold Ed. bought through sprocket, updated to 1.14, before I updated I got the same error in another file. EDIT: the error seems to be in different files at different times. Gonna try a reinstall... EDIT2: Reinstall didn't work, time to email sprocket about my monies back...

If BIS failed to have proper reload animations even in arma I wouldn't bet on seeing customisable weapons... The basic tech is till there and it has been way behind modern 3d engines for the last 4 years.

Having different sound for different distance is a weak way of supporting sound occlusion and sound absorption. It should be simulated as close to reality as possible, reverberation models should be constructed for cities etc etc.
-
They should do this for realistic sounds
simulacra replied to mr.g-c's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Why not hire the guys at dice, BF2 had the best audio ever heard in a combat game, hands down... What we need is beter hardware acceleration for real time AFX, reverberation depending on environment, filtering and delay over distances etc. OR BI could just work harder, dice did it and they only have 2 audio guys and I dont think that they have any secret tricks apart from knowledge and equipment.. -
I dont understand what the mod is about, melioriation?
-
Those soldiers actually looked like thet were bounding, and taking realistic positions towards where the enemy where expected to appear, not like in ofp and arma where some soldiers guards a dead end valley, or looks at the complete opposite way from where the enemies are attacking...
-
Having russians as enemies is politically safe, you dont tread into "iraq"territory with all the possible ramifications that brings. But personally I rather see covert ops action with the palyer attacking groups of individuals that pose as a threat than having a whole army, I see no problem in having every level being it's own short war. For instance, there's a band of arms suppliers that supply the wrong ppl with weapons, you are deployed as part of a covert SAS or SEAL unit to dispose of said threat when he's traveling with a truck full of stolen ak 47's and rpg's. You insert via blackhawk or similar some 15-20 clicks ahead of the target, track to the point of attack which is a part of the road where the truck has to slow down. When he comes you open up, battle might be over in 20-30 seconds, very little resistance, you hump back to extraction, exfil and mission complete. And sometimes the entire mission might go to heck, everything goes wrong and you ahve a hard time getting out, dynamic missions which aren't progressively harder makes for a more realistic game...

Yea, it does seem like ofp/arma/arma 2 is more or less one ongoing game. I have 1 problem with that, arma is inherently flawed in some ways, the animation engine is problematic, the audio engine is bad. And the things that DO get fixed are superficial things that have little or no bearing in how the game actually works. I'm glad to see that the AI will get a work over, I was REALLY glad to see that fighting units actually recognized cover in urban areas and doesn't lie down in an open street while under fire when there are buildings to get behind 2 m to either side. What I find lacking in armed assault is "tightness" a bit non descriptive I know but I cant really explain it any other way. It just feels detached, it's fun to make a small battle in the editor and see it being played out, and I love the fact that that battle will never play out the same at 2 different times. But where's the thrilling campaign? where are the missions you remember for life. The way I see it there ws some error in jugdement when arma was developed, BIS relied TOO much on community content, OFP didn't and was in that way a better GAME. The sandbox simulations in arma 1 are great fun, but please make arma 2 a game aswell as a simulator.

I would like to see that arma 2 had the same control over your team as in GRAW 2 for PC, that's the best movement command system I've seen... It's really close to the system in full spectrum warrior.
