    Turkish Union Addon Pack 2

Hi, Those YPR vehicles look excellent! I am eagerly awaiting your planned release. A question regarding the PRAT, does the Turkish army also use the version shown on the screenshots next to or instead of the one listed on the FNSS site with the Norwegian designed TOW turret? Regards, Sander

    enough fictious islands ....

Hi, Besides Bonaire, the LLW islands Leusderheide and Winter Leusderheide made by Wachtmeester are also based on a real location. To base islands on a real location is, as far as I am concerned, not a prerequisite for a good OFP island. Skilled island makers like Jakerod and Berghoff tend to produce fine locations regardless of being based on real examples or not. Regards, Sander

Enemy In Sight - the next OFP "clone" ?

Hi, It would not necessarily be a bad thing if the gameplay is different from OFP, for the latter there is ofcourse OFP itself and by the time Enemy in sight has been released Armed Assault as well. There are some features of the Illusion Softworks games that I like better than the implementation in OFP. For instance, in Vietcong the view through the weapon sights required the player to keep a button pressed and in Hidden & Dangerous 2 there was a good weight- and size based method for the weapons/ammunition/gadgets inventory. A great drawback of the Illusion Softworks games has indeed been the lack for support of customer created content. In that respect the BI approach with the excellent mission editor and the release of editing tools has been far more laudable. Regards, Sander

    New Uniform

Not exclusively, but predominantly as the destructiveness of precision guided munitions is forcing opponents to seek refuge precisely there were some measure of protection against these is available: densely populated areas where the threat of possible civilian casualties is more likely to deter, though not necessarily prevent, Western armies to drop heavy ordnance. There is much less chance of harming innocent bystanders in the woods, so artillery and bombs can be employed there with less discretion. The pattern is intended to be a jack of all trades (but a master of none). Various patterns and colour schemes adjusted to different environments had originally been tested for the new uniforms, but in the end it was decided to adopt a pattern in single colour scheme for the usual reason (saving money). New Uniform

Hi, The trouble is that the kind of fighting faced by dismounted troops nowadays puts them in clear view of an opponent anyway. The ranges in an urban environment where forces are now deployed are too short to effectively blend in with the environment. In such a situation quick and reliable identification of friend and foe has a higher priority. The distinctive greyish appearance of the ACU assists in that. Since the lethality of the armament of western forces like the U.S. army is greater than that brought to bear by the average opponent, being seen and recognised by your own side may well take precedence over the importance of not being seen by the other side. On the one hand standoff engagements may be taking on a greater role in higher intensity conflicts, but the lower intensity conflict demands that troops are often deployed in situations where it is not only hard to hide, but where deployment in the open is an essential part of the mission (e.g. the policing role in a counter-insurgency campaign) and camouflage has low practical value. When patrolling a street clad in body armour, clutching heavy weaponry, accompanied by noisy and large vehicles it is going to be quite difficult blending in regardless of the colours of your clothing. New Uniform

Hi, An advantage of a distinctive uniform is easier recognition. Since fatigues in U.S. Woodland pattern and derivatives have been adopted by many armies around the world, including numerous ones not entirely friendly towards the U.S., quick and correct identification of friend and foe was to some extent impeded. And with a camouflage pattern adopted like the current ACU, there may well be fewer fighting forces that want to adopt something very similar. Regards, Sander

    Semper Fidelis

Hi, Will the mineploughs be eye candy or would it by chance be possible to make these functional by adding a script to remove AT mines in the tank's path? Regards, Sander

    A flag for Everon

Hi, Due to the predominantly French place names of Everon, I would expect to see some reflection of that in the flag either by incorporation of the republican colours red, white and blue (added advantage of being representative of the Czech background suggested by the resistance names), or alternatively by incorporation of older royal elements like the fleur-de-lis into the flag. What are you going to do?

Hi, First I would start up the mission editor and try out the various units, vehicles and weapons and just wander around on the islands. After that (many hours later) I would try to improvise a first Dutch army addon by trying to swap the DPM textures of the Russian infantry on the model of the U.S. troops. Regards, Sander

    Patriot launcher in progress

Hi, The Patriot launcher looks great. Might you consider adding some Dutch markings to any Patriot addon as well, as you have with your very promising C130? Keep up the good work, Sander
  12. Hi, A good general introduction on the subject of logistics: Creveld, M. van, Supplying War: Logistics from Wallenstein to Patton (New York 1977), 284p. Some publications on logistics in Antiquity: Engels, D. W., Alexander the Great and the logistics of the Macedonian army (Berkeley 1978) 194p. Erdkamp, P., Hunger and the sword. Warfare and food supply in Roman republican wars (264 - 30 BC) (Amsterdam 1998) 324p. Junkelmann, M., Panis militaris (Mainz 1997) 254p. Hi, It is several times a week, but only due to not enough spare time. Regards, Sander

    Changing Texture Paths of P3Ds

Hi, If you want to change the texture paths without using O2, you could use a hexadecimal editing program to replace the appropriate string. Something to keep in mind when changing the texture paths is that MLOD models require the length of the string to remain the same lengths, while the length can be altered with ODOL models. A google query should yield plenty of examples of sites where hexadecimal editing programs can be downloaded or bought. Regards, Sander

    What is your favorite island?

Hi, My favourite maps are Havelte and Leusderheide, as these represent Dutch terrain and their flatness imposes different tactics than the usual hilly terrain of other OFP islands. Other islands that I like a lot are Trinity and Freya. These maps contain various islands connected by bridges which are always good chokepoints to center a mission on. Freya also has very nicely done towns. Regards, Sander

    The-Architect's New Mission Poll

Hi, My vote goes to combined arms operations, which is what OFP does best. Within the combined arms team my preference would be to play as an infantryman, supported by AI units of armour and aircraft. A mission using default OFP units would be my preferred option. A good mission is not dependent on the quality of addons incorporated. The preferred setting would be the eighties of the last century. This is directly linked to my preference for a mission using default BIS units rather than custom addons. The side I would like best is that of the West. Regards, Sander

    Texture PSDs

Hi For wrinkle effects see the templates on this Ghost Recon Skin tutorial. These can be adapted to the OFP textures by cutting pasting and distorting where appropriate. One of the best sites to get large and clear images to base camouflage backgrounds on is Henrik Clausen's camouflage site, other useful sites can be found through its links page. It is often best to use a picture of the back of a camouflage jacket, as the pattern is usually best visible there, uncluttered by pockets and such. It usually takes some cutting, copying and pasting to reconstruct a pattern and compensate for the creasing on photographs. The LLW International Infantry 2 will be released with templates, patterns and a tutorial. Regards, Sander

    OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

Hi, For an improper one (neither German nor English is my mothertongue): "The most exciting is the game, that hasn't got a name yet. According to their own words Bohemia is working on a "next generation PC game". That brings Operation Flashpoint to memory, but should on the other hand be substantially more dynamic. Thus a war rages in each of the three-chaptered story, in which friendly and hostile AI-units are continually fighting. The game generates missions from the war, which you will fight in the first story chapter as a common soldier/private. In the second chapter you lead as commander your own forces in the field and hand out missions yourself. The thrid chapter moves you into the kevlargear of an elite soldier, which crawls around and sabotages behind enemy lines. Like in Operation Flashpoint you drive or fly armour, helicopters, trucks, jeeps and ships. Roleplaying elements will spice up the battles: you conduct rudimentary conversations with soldiers ("How many Russian tanks have you seen?") and improve the skills of your soldiers. A publisher Bohemia has not found yet: the unnamed game appears at the earliest at the end of 2006. The reason why the game has no name? Because the rights to the name Operation Flashpoint are with publisher Codemasters, while Bohemia does not cooperate with Codemasters at the moment." Regards, Sander

    OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

CA as in Combined Arms? In my opinions the screen shots look good, I just hope that the new game can be easily modded into a Dutch theme. Regards, Sander

    Head model/Face textures

Hi, For Gizmo mapping: Ofpec tutorial Figures using yet another new head model are worked on: International infantry 2 head model For now the texture mapping uses the original setup for OFP models, but volunteers for creating a different setup would be most welcome. It might be useful to define and use a common standard between the various new head projects. Regards, Sander

    Lowlands Warrior Mod

Hi, There may eventually be an updated version of our Yugoslav OPFOR, but that has a low priority. At the moment I am working hard on getting the International infantry 2 figures ready as well as generic Dutch army troops based on the new basic figure. When those are done, the troops for the Antilles campaign are next in line. Only after completing the Dutch and Venezuelan forces would the Yugoslav militia be updated, but there are no plan at all to provide them with the proper armament and equipment. For these existing addons from other teams could be used, which have to date released such specific items as for instance M70B Kalashnikov clones or M80 infantry fighting vehicles. The OPFOR were only made as a more plausible looking enemy than 1985 Soviet troops for the modern day Dutch forces. Regards, Sander

    What AFV is this? :)

Hi, The FMC AIFV, its variants and derived vehicles are currently in service with the armed forces of: * Belgium * Netherlands * Egypt (former Dutch surplus) * Philippines * Republic of China (Taiwan) * South-Korea * Turkey The vehicle in the picture you have linked is the infantry carrier with the one man turret with 25mm gun and coaxial MG, but there are many variants of the vehicle with different armament and adapted for various roles (e.g. command vehicle, armoured ambulance, mortar tower, tank destroyer, repair and recovery vehicle) Regards, Sander
