  1. Hi, The Lowlands Warrior team releases the L16A2 81mm mortar. Model and textures are by Matthijs Crielaard, the config is by yours truely and the demo mission is by OFP Willem. The L16 series of mortars was developed jointly by the UK and Canada and is in service with over 39 armies around the world. In Dutch service it has been in use as a company level support weapon with airmobile - and marine corps infantry battalions since the 1990's and is currently introduced into service with the armoured infantry battalions to replace the Brandt 120mm mortars. This static mortar addon uses five types of HE ammunition to cover distances of up to three kilometers, each round configured to match the real life specifications for the L15A3 mortar bomb when fitted with different propellant charges. Mortar - Primary - 80-520 meters Mortar - Charge 1 - 390-1120 meters Mortar - Charge 2 - 580-1710 meters Mortar - Charge 3 - 780-2265 meters Mortar - Charge 4 - 1070-3080 meters This addon can be used with OFP Resistance 1.96 and requires no other custom addons. For pictures and the download download see: www.ofp.info Note that the Lowlands Warrior site is currently down due to technical difficulties.

    Lowlands Warrior releases

Human crews can switch to different ammunition types and fire away at distant targets to their heart's content and in MP one can have a forward observer monitoring the fall of shot and giving corrections when firing at targets that cannot be seen directly by a player working the mortar. During testing the AI seemed loth to engage at ranges exceeding that of the primary propellant charge ammunition, even when they were set to a high skill level and had been ordered to fire at a specific stationary soft target (earlier topic). Tweaking the cost of the ammunition had no distinguishable impact on the test and I suspect the cause to be mainly attributable to the AI crew's limited visual range. The slow speed of the mortar rounds, which I had at first thought might be the cause of trouble for the AI to make a decision to fire, should not have been a problem since the target that was pointed out to the AI gunner was a stationary East truck. Perhaps with a bigger zoom factor for the optics the AI might be tempted to fire at more distant targets, but the C2 sight used with the L16A2 only has very limited magnification (variously reported as 1.7x or 1.8x) and I did not want to give the game version a 10x or 20x magnification. In the hands of the AI the weapon will thus only be used out to a few hundred meters. To reach out and touch targets further away it is best to man the mortar yourself. * EDIT * The Brazilian mortar pack is indeed excellent and the trick used for the sights is brilliantly conceived. 3. Hi, A mortar addon I am working on has different ammunition types defined with varying settings for minimum and maximum ranges and muzzle velocities to represent use of the primary charge and charge 1 to - 4. My current config cpp basically defines 5 ammo types, used by five magazines for a GrenadeLauncher class derived weapon. The weapon has all of these five magazines available. This works fine for a human player who can pick the appropriate ammo to engage targets at varying ranges, but the AI seems stuck to using just the primary charge, even when they are aware of targets beyond its maximum range of 580 meters, which could be engaged using another type of ammunition. Does anyone know which config cpp settings can influence AI decisions to switch to another ammo type if the current type lacks the range to hit a known target? I have been tinkering with various settings without noticing different AI behaviour in tests and I am at a loss how to get the AI to switch from primary to charge 1 and onwards. Regards, Sander
  4. Hi, Thanks for your reply. During testing I have played around with the cost per mortar round, but the AI are still reluctant to engage even when the rounds for longer ranges are cut down in cost and I have ordered them specifically to engage a stationary soft target at a range of over 580 meters, but still well within their visual range. Perhaps scripting is necessary to force AI firing at long range targets with an appropriate ammunition type. Regards, Sander
  5. Below the current config cpp is reproduced. Perhaps other might spot which settings need adjustment to have AI fire the longer ranged rounds. With kind regards, Sander

Hi, For the structure of U.S. infantry at squad and platoon level, one can use the field manual sections linked below: Mechanised infantry (Bradley) http://www.globalsecurity.org/militar....ch1.htm Mechanised infantry (M113) http://www.globalsecurity.org/militar....Ch2.htm Motorised infantry (Stryker) http://www.globalsecurity.org/militar....ap1.htm Infantry (Leather Personnel Carrier) http://www.globalsecurity.org/militar....ppa.htm Regards, Sander

    15 years of independance

That is a considerable underestimation, the RIOD (predecessor of the current NIOD) has concluded that some 23.000 Dutch volunteered for service in the Waffen-SS during the course of the second world war. Not all of these served at once. Reference: Pierik, P., Van Leningrad tot Berlijn. Nederlandse vrijwilligers in dienst van de Duitse Waffen-SS 1941-1945 (2nd ed. Soesterberg 2000), page 62. (3rd edition can currently be found at DeSlegte) Dutch volunteers were relative to overall population size the largest foreign contingent, not in absolute numbers (more troops were recruited from the Soviet-Union). This unsavoury aspect of Dutch history is all too often glossed over. Over 10.000 additional Dutchmen have served in other branches of the German armed forces during that time, in part though as conscripts (men of mixed Dutch/German parentage were subject to the draft). Best Island(s) List

Some of my favourites: Novajev Top notch island that has a believable lay out with very good built up areas, good road system and nicely ordered rural areas. Havelte Dutch terrain, flat, lots of waterways and bridges dictates a different style of play than other islands. Anjou V3 Western European feel to the map, excellent expedient airfield, many forests and hedges that allow one to sneak up on opponents. Don Steppe Wide open spaces are good for armour operations. A few well placed air defence systems can make life hell for pilots on this map. Avignon Does not use any addons. Well laid out island. Ia Drang SEBNAM 2 island remains one of the best Vietnam styled islands. Freya A very large Nordic island with many bridges and chokepoints. * EDIT * Almost gforgot to add another of my favourites: Trinity A very varied island with some good chokepoints Regards, Sander

    Nogovan Light Infantry

Given the patterns used by the OFP resistance forces, one might opt for either the old Swiss pattern or the current German camouflage: Flecktarn Swiss camouflage Another possibility is to pick the splinter and rain pattern that one can see on the OFP pup tents: Splinter camouflage For other patterns one can look for examples on: Henrik Clausen's camouflage site In my experience the photographs of camouflage jackets from the back on this site offer the best possibilities to cut and paste together a repeating pattern of camouflage that can be stuck behind crease template textures. For optimum effect it should be taken into account that one needs to vary the pattern used for the background in size for the different textures applied to an OFP soldier model, as these are not on the same scale. Invisible Units

Adding excessive armour values might have the side effect that rifles and machineguns will no longer be used by the AI to fire on the target. Although in principle the damage system in OFP would enable someone to kill an M1A1 with a pistol as long as there is plenty of ammunition and patience, the AI decides whether it is worth to use a weapon or not based on the relation between the damage his ammunition can do and the protection of the target. A script might be better to prolong the target's life. Regards, Sander

    Your favourite war movie

Hi, The list of options is heavily slanted towards films with a 20th century theme, neglecting the war movies depicting earlier times like for instance Zulu. From those listed above I voted for Platoon, though I would rate the BBC series Warriors, which Xawery already mentioned, higher. Regards, Sander
  17. 18. Thanks for the large swatches of the camouflage patterns. With these it is possible to create a background tile that does not repeat itself too often. Regards, Sander

    RAF Chinook HC.2

Hi, The chopper looks great and handles great in flight. I look very much forward toward the Dutch version in Armed Assault, but this British Chinook will keep me busy in the mean time. === Regarding Hotshot's error report, spot though it is on on my driving skills, it should be noted that the mission did not include the AFR gamelogic. However, when this gamelogic was added and the mission tested again this evening, similar phenomena were encountered. Landrover vehicles were loaded and remained visible in some cases and became invisible in others. Passengers on board the landies were teleported out to see and died. Vehicles were offloaded without problem on the airport where we practiced, but the Chinook once again gave birth to Landrovers when the chopper had flown around and landed in terrain. This resulted in vehicles being damaged and exploding. Regards, Sander
