here is some data: as a Mgunner i had FN-MAG (M60 is the same weight) MG - 11.750 kg spare barrel - 2.750 kg. ammo - 650 rds: 22 kg. misc. - 8 kg. thats more then 40 kg. without any backpack! there is no way to measure time because that depends on the intensity of the fight but when your not mounted, we prefer to carry more. to the amount of 1000 rds. Oh. i forgot number two. he carries about the number of bullets number one carries. hand grip is nice and u have it but its only for assault, where your main goal is scare the shit out of yer enemy, till u can close in and shoot him in the head. the fact is that most soldiers prefer to shoot single rounds on their assualt rifle is because of accuracy. a NATO 7.62 will beat the shit of anyone who gets one. its really effective. Tactics: the purpose of a MG is support. it has several advantages: 1. longer range. 2. the ability to fire burst accuratly. 3. the ability to generate accurate fire on one hand and suppressing fire on the other. 4. with the aid of laser pointer MG's are the bane of infantry. i used it in combat and i was able to hit targets at 400m. at night VERY accurately if u use tripod that another ball game altogether. if any of you still think that any assault rifle can lay such a heavy fire think again: just how much ammo rifleman has and how many bullets he can fire ACCURATELY. we would say that a single FN-MAG is equivalent to 5-7 M-16. edit: whats in the pic isnt M-60. its not long enough. its some kind of SAW.

u can use the IR from PNG and thats more safe because thats directional singal. i know that in day light the use of signaling mirrors is more common cause smoke will give up your position more easily.

What it says is that late monday night Israeli police evicted nine Palestinian families from buildings in eastern Jerusalem because Israeli settlers had laid claim to those buildings. I thought you were saying Palestinians werent moved for the benefit of Israelis?<span id='postcolor'> yeah, let me add some things your paper seemed to "forget": the pals are israeli citizens. the land owner, a israeli-arab sold the land to some israelis. the ppl living there, were noticed 2 years in advance to evacuate the area. they have gone to court, but as the houses and land were sold, there was no legal base for any law suit. but i guess because they were pals and the ppl that bought the land were jews gave an exellent excuse to bash us after no evidence of any "massacre" could be shown by the pals, no? major fubar, i just gave u another point of view thats all. GASWELL: thats a really good excuse. lets not go after terrorists because ppl might get hurt. lets not stop iraq because there is a risk of iraqi ppl getting hurt in the process (and they did, didnt they?), lets not engage any threat that is sheilding himself in the midst of civilians because they might get hurt. let us get killed and not move a finger in our defence right? WRONG. our leadership DIDNT send suicide bombers into civilian areas, our leadership DIDNT send gunmen in order to kill civilians, our leadership DIDNT promote the killing of palestinian no matter who they are. so your accusation that we elected a leader ship and then violence errupted is wrong. check the dates. the violence started in end of sep. 2000 and elections were only couple of months later. and sharon has to thank Arafat for his elections. he wouldnt be elected unless Arafat opened fire. and why cant I compare Chechnia? what the difference? makes you uneasy? just compare the casualties. and any way i was bringing it as a military comparison. i say that our troops checked fire far more then any other country. find yourself a colonel, a captain in the infantry, ask them. maybe they'll explain you. yes we could enter wearing flowers and straw skirts, but i doubt it'll do a thing other then make em laugh for a while. its a pitty no news letter bothered writing the interview of a reserve doctor who was in Jenin, all through the fight. you tell him that the action was too brutal, he'll slap you shitless. as i said. NO army EVER endagered more his soldiers in order not to hurt civvies. and he succeeded. almost all civvies dead are of the result of boobytraps made by pals. its very comfy to criticise and say we could be more mild in the couch when you dont know even 1% of what the figthing been like, and how our soldiers sacrificed themselves. i dont think u've any other better solution. and i'm willing to bet most of you wont jump over your head calling vengence if only a fraction would happen to you. you preach for tolerence, for us to hold our fire, to accept our losses, yet you dont do even 1% to any other country that uses much more force then we do. germany is broadennig its trade with russia, a country that used, aerial bombardment, heavy artillery, ans such, and caused 100000 civilian casualties. and boycott us when we respond after 18 of being bloodied. u wonder why we think europe has double standarts? here is your answer. you couldnt hear a word from europe when suicide bombers exploded amongst us, but the minute we lift a finger, we're being compared to the nazis. so forgive me if i hold any resentment.

well, AFAIK no aircraft other then choppers arent allowed to fly lower then 11000 in order to minimize hits by small calibre (14.5 mm) guns. so thats a thing that should be checked. again i dont know about the incident so i cant really make any conclusions. do you know if it had flown lower? what weapon it used? we had a saying : "the risk of having a blue-on-blue incident is exponential to the amout of armed men in the situation!"

believe me, as an ambush patrol we would be so cautious not to fire one on another and still had blue on blue. there is no way to prevent it totally, other then not operating one with another. the fact that personnel from TWO armies complicates it more. believe me its hard enough to coordinate a regiment in peaceful times, not to mention war time and the fact that they belong to different militaries. as they say "shit happens" and to the best of them. i agree that it may have been avoided but until we'll know the full details we just cant know for sure. BTW those stripes and flags arent worth a damn if u cant go below 11000 feet. in that high alttitude all u r is just a dot on the radar screen. this procedure aint worth a damn for airplanes.

put your head into an ice bucket, hot shot! blue-on-blue happens in war, that what happens when you're operating multi-national force in hostile enviroment. revenge isnt profesional! and if everyone would revenge the fallin of their mate in accident, then there is no need for enemies. think a little bit about what you said.

a friend of mine is a snake freak. he lets them roam free in his house. one day he comes home and sees the front door open and the breaking tools on the floor near the front door......

yes GASWELL its serious, and if u knew HOW dangraous is to fight CQB, that the americans and british troop didnt enter Kandahar because of that reason u're either dreaming or u dont know shit about warfare. what u probably forgoten (and i'll help u to remember! is that they boobytraped the whole place, never mind about the families, they also booby trapped the mosques and churches (the Maria Church in beth lehem was booby trapped by more then 200 Lb of explosives) in order to show that we did it all, but the fact is that most of the ruins was caused by THEIR explosives. and if u would think a bit u'll see that if we didnt care we could just napalm the whole thing. want an example? take Chechnia - 100000 civvies dead, use of Artilley and aircraft with no regard. why dont you boycott them too? send in UN troops? or maybe any other thing you are offering? What about sending a UN commision to investigate the INTENTIONAL PRE PLANNED MURDER of civilians on our side? how about you boycotting the PA about their involvement of these acts? how about admitting that when you booby-trap your own houses they can be blown up? NO one found any evidence about a massacre, all evidence show an intentional mining of the whole city by the pals (just ask the medic that got hurt by a pal charge) yet you all already take it at face value. the IRC asked the IDF to dismantle these booby traps and the explosive belts that are still on the bodies of the dead gunmen. our men entered the cities without firing without being fired in order not to hurt civvies. a company CO was shot dead and his men were unable to retrieve gim for 4 hours because he was shooting between civvies. the soldiers had to close up in order to kill him, 3 tanks could finish the job but didnt fire 'cause of this. REMF!

well, there isnt that much meaning to ranks in the IDF especially in the reserves, but a rank u've earned, uve earned by doing someting extraordinary no? so its kind of respect ur getting from the army. to take it back is in my eyes an insult, and ive read about it, i was quite amazed. i dont mean to insult anyone but thats a paperpushers action who's whole goal is balance the godman dooks, and thats your army has fallen to pen-warriors claws. (i dont like paperpushers). i dunno, that make me feel crappy i guess, like a personnal insult.

E6Hotel - there are numerous cases when NCO's became officers during combat, the most famous story is a person in our military who is today a division CO and was promoted solely upon his personal performanc although he didnt pass officers school he is one professional soldier! and in our military u dont revert back to your peace time rank, that a total disrespect for the deeds of a dedicated soldier. he earned that rank rightiously no?

the problem is that Sharon is facing elections in the next year, and if israelis will feel that there is a chance for peace, he wont get elected again, but a more moderate leader. Arafat on the other hand really doesnt care, he'll lead till the day he dies. and thats the main difference. the ppl in israel gave peace a chance by selecting Rabin and Barak, while Aradat was and still is the leader. the change to sharon came after israelis decided there is no hope in the moderates. so i say, if Arafat really wants to arrive a solution, he will act in order to bring back the popularity of moderates, which also leads to a question: did Arafat REALLY wanted a peaceful solution?

well any way i was playing with an idea of AT mission, so if anyone wants to take it on, ill be happy!
-
Ive been playing with an idea.....
scout replied to scout's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
i dunno, there is a bug maybe, anyway here is the idea(again) its a multiplayer scenario (can be Sp, but that spoils the fun) ur a scout/AT platoon that consists of 4 teams. your mission: find a way to breakthrough the enemy lines. now, u need to infiltrate through enemy lines and find the weakest spot, and call in an armoured platoon in order to exploit the seam. the mission breaks through several parts: 1. the recon - find the weakest part and recon also behind enemy lines to make sure of it. 2. infiltrate - secure a route for the tanks by catching major points and positioning your teams with AT missiles on the route. 3. attack - launching the armored attack and in this time, covering it with AT and small arms. 4. catching the objectives. for this mission to be successful u need to: 1. do it on a hilly island. 2. u need to create a strong front, with a weak spot in it the best is a mix of AT infantry and tanks, in order so no rambo would decide to break throuogh. 3. a worthy objective behind enemy lines, defended by tanks/infantry 4. attack choppers support for the defenders. 5. thats a 5 player min game - 4 AT/recon teams and 1 platoon commander. the teams are of 3-4: AT/AA and recon platoon: 3-4 tanks and 1-2 APC's the goals of the mission: find a breakthrough, infiltrate without drawing attention, seize important point, condact a supported attack, on a narrow strech of a front. anyone is willing to try? -
then u'll piss all over your pants! everyone with his own tactics!

sorry...... we still use cans as our MRE.LOL and dont worry, the tinned meat we had was almost 9 years old, and it was considered quite new. remember , sleeping bags wont be with you always! u better find some way to sleep in that poncho (i use thermal underware and shirt) so start improvising! thats the first rule of the soldier!

okay so maybe some Dumbass forgot to inform its wing about the EX. or the guy was in the toilet, or maybe he is just a hotshot, but this looks to me like a comm-problem, otherwise they would INFORM him while denying shooting. thats actually the cause of 80% of all blue-on-blue. simple comm problem that the HQ just "forget" about. the fact that quarter of the casualties of the US in 1991 came from blue-on-blue just indicates how few losses they had in action against the enemy, thats all. almost in every battle there is a blue-on-blue, ur being told only about those that has casualties

okay, here are 2 tips for the field: 1. the front sight is a GREAT can opener! 2. the rifle is the best tent pole ive used ever! enjoy!

ok, heres how it goes in most armies: u can either go through officers school and then start from the rank of 2nd Lt. or start from a private and go through the ranks of Non-com. u can become an officer any time if u take officers school. in our military, u have to be a sargent and pass squad ldr. school BEFORE being allowed to continue to officers school, but in the US it doesnt work like that.

ok. all those who think blue-on-blue can be prevented totaly just show their ignorance at how difficult are ops, and how it is difficult to operate under stress condition. sorry guys, but all u've just said is lab knowledge. things that are simple in day to day are extremly hard in combat, and thats what happened probably to this pilot, he just handled stress badly. so i would suggest to hear it all out, before passing judgement, especially if u dont KNOW whats going on in combat ok?
