Commanding AI to start Engine of Heli

Ahaa....yep, that worked. Was used to Op flashpoint and you could just get them to start their engine and tag along. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Now if only we could get a Hind Helo back into ArmedA !! Cheers Mike
  2. Hi Folks, I'm on 1.02 of AA. I created a game and gave myself a squad and a few empty tanks / helo's to play with to see their potential. The tanks / BMP's worked fine, mount, drive here, shoot there etc. Whenever I told the AI to take over the pilot position on the HELO it would do this but the action option to start the Helo's Engine wasn't available. I found this behaviour with a normal solidier so changed for a few pilot AI's and got the same issue (Kamov and the MI-17). Anyone else seeing this? Is it a bug or something I'm doing wrong? I can get into the helo myself and start it up but I want the AI to do it. Any advice? I'm not looking at scripting, just why option 6 for issuing a command isn't available when they are in the pilot seat of the HELO. Cheers Mike

1.02 Patch fix for Win XP x64 users

Here's what I did (Bit cheeky but it worked!! I've already installed Vmware Server 1.01 (Free) on my PC - it's free also. I have a 32 bit installation of Windows XP in there. I installed Armed Assault, then the 1.01 patch, then the 1.02, then the english patch. I then copied the contents of the armed assault folder up onto my own PC (The VM Host) - I had deleted the old files there first. After this I ran the game, my settings were saved in my documents so my saves etc were unaffected and 1.02 works fine. Again - yep, Windows XP 64-bit, must try Vista next !! It's the same as if you had another computer but uses a VM to simulate. Warning: The first time I tried this I ran out of disk space on the VM HDD, I'd to create a second hard disk with LOTS of space (8GB or so) to run the installs and patches. Worked fine then without errors. Hope this helps, there is also microsoft's virtual server 2005 R2 but vmware is way better still. Mike

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

Wow ! Had a few problems with crashing when installing it to my D: drive, left on default C: program files folder and it worked ok. Am on 1.01 german DVD version with sixth sense 0.06 english patch. Wish I spoke german, the keyboard layout and menus are still strange, must get a dictionary ready ! Well - to the game itself, tried a quick multiplayer game, plus the editor to look at the small and large islands. I've played OFP for a good few years now and it's like glimpses of Battlefield2 and Half Life2 etc (nearly!, but really incredible. I flew a harrier over the water and the ripples..omg !!! That blew me away, sunspots looking into sun etc, the leaves and grass...you could really go to town on all this but it's left me really looking forward to playing this over the next few weeks. Really good job, I've a Nvidia 7800 and it's running smooth as anything, haven't tried any big battles or the campaign yet but will get there and see what the performance is like. I'm on Windows XP 64-bit and having no issues by the way apart from the crash on startup earlier that took a few reinstalls to correct. See you online on some hill or other ! Mike
