  1. Different unrealistic and balanced stuff that annoys veteran players. There are modern vehicles and weapons that come after Arma 2's stuff, so why didn't we see that stuff?

What's unrealistic about the new content? Much of it is based on real life equipment. AAF stuff is inferior to what the other factions get. Their rifles and airplane aren't even considered new by today's standards and this is supposed to be 20 years in the future.

There are definite issues with some of the content in ARMA 3 (a lot of stuff is straight up copy-pasted from one asset to another), but I wouldn't call any of it unrealistic.

  2. ArmA is not an AAA title. well its far from it now. and certainly was not on release. maybe it will become an AAA title in the future.

    AAA priced.

...Source Engine which started as Quake 1 engine and is thus 17 years old

Many of these statements were a stretch, but I don't know how you could even think this. Unless you have some sort of insider info that I don't.

Anyway, the point is that BIS decided to modernize their game with new assets and throw out (most) of the old stuff, and that's not a bad thing. The amount of content always goes down when a company does something like this. Look at GTA:SA to GTA IV. Personally, I would have rather they focused on more drastic changes to the engine, since that's what we are going to be stuck with for the next few years.

  3. I was referring strictly to the creation of all new content for the game, which was absolutely the right decision. You can only reuse the same assets for so long.

Are you sure? New content is good but why not have it building on existing content?

Because the existing content looked, felt, and was super dated. I honestly can't believe they are even still using the same engine. It's probably the oldest engine being used in a AAA priced game.

  4. Arma2/OA is a mix of stuff even as old as OFP, I think it's very brave and visionary of BI to start fresh with brand new standards. The community can get a lot done with the right tools and source, so they're better off building a stronger platform with better play and performance than they are working on assets

I don't know if I'd say it was brave, but it was definitely the right move.

  5. Sorry but I really don't think you're representative of this community in any way. For most people here, it's not that big of a deal.

Yep. It wasn't a big deal when women couldn't hold guns and now it's not a big deal that women aren't in the game at all.

  6. That's a silly argument. What's the current female population in the Arma community? I think we've come to the same point the other thread was closed.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize we were only depicting the portion of the population that plays arma. If that's the case, they need to add a few pounds to the player models.

It's likely female models will come later anyway since DayZ is using the same skeletons as Arma3 and the two teams share their assets. I suspect BiS has other priorities that are much more pressing than pandering to your guys' feelings though.

They shouldn't have other priorities since we are the ones paying for their games, and have been for the last decade.

  7. The people who actual care if women are in the game or not are the minority... Most could give 2 shits about women characters, just as with any other tactical shooter. The only people who care are mostly role players. Which indeed are the minority. Which are here in this thread.

Maybe we just think that it's unacceptable that 50% of the population is not represented at all.

  8. I would be really interested in what exactly most people here are defining suppression fire as. Is this a group of players firing at another group? One vs. one? Are you keeping up a steady barrage of fairly accurate fire? Are you one dude shooting really fast at a tree that another dude is hiding behind?

  9. Here is my take on suppression. It is a crucial part of the basics of infantry combat you cannot have maneuver without a supporting base of fire. A supporting base of fire cannot do their job without being able to suppress the enemy. That said this is a video game and the way we play this game is not the same as if it were real life no matter what you think you still know you are going somewhere to shoot someone. Opfor knows you are coming(pvp). This is also part of the reason people say "real world tactics don't work" because of the detachment from reality that comes from this being a game. Forcing suppression on someone is like forcing bad physical fitness, or reducing reaction speed. You can induce the same stress of being suppressed without taking the control away from the player. When you remove the players ability to control himself you instantly take away the fun and he becomes a puppet following the trail you prescribe for him. Also if your playing pvp and you are suppressing someone and they can still shoot you, you aren't doing a very good job of suppression and your moving too slow for your flank maneuver. That moment you gain fire superiority is the moment when you have them pinned and your next shot will end them its not just shooting in the air in their area.

    This is a good post.

  10. I assume bis already uses new tools internally and they're well informed about all ins & outs. otoh, making them public is a serious commitment in terms of quality and functionality. you have to polish stuff, and make sure it comes out solid. as outlined by some vets of the games industry before, this takes time and resources. however, the fact that your community starts to think of you as devoted for modding etc is a definite advantage.

I suppose many people here would "murder" for these tools. :D

It's not how the community thinks of them, it's that they portray themselves as being devoted to modding. It doesn't really matter how easy or hard it would be to mod women in anyway, because the point is that the community shouldn't have to add women to the game. Women should have been included in the game from the start.

I have experience with the craft

    This is great.

  11. Making missions is already very easy. Making custom assets is easy enough if you know what you are doing. You cant hate on BI for the fact that creating new models and all the work involved with it is HARD work and requires frustration tolerance. So, making new "content" is already easy enough.

I can definitely blame BI for releasing crappy tools and not documenting basically anything ever.
