  1. Quote[/b] ]Here is some info on the Active Protection Systems of russian armour as described by one of our tank specialists:

IRL, does Arena have an effect on tank shells (sabot or heat)?  If no, how will you make it so that missiles are blocked but shells pass in game?

  2. I think the biggest problem you have right now is the AI not engaging in the air. Either than that, its great. One thing that bugs me though, is when you from 0 to 2000 when you take off. This leaves you with 0 time to react in rocky areas.

yes.. it is a bit of a fault there.. i guess the scripter became the mad hatterand got carried away.. in the update it will be shorten down

    say istead of being 0 - 2000 it will be instead 0 - 200

although not 100% on that as we will test different speeds to see what suits it

Hey! I really like the 1000.  It "blasts off"  tounge_o.gif  Just be careful about your azimuth when placing them! You could make the script levitate the plane a little higher (like to 50, or 100).  or, make it if the script could turn on and off, so the plane won't start or stop by accident.

Furthermore, the blasters need serious tuning, I've tested this addon for the past 2 hours, and couldn't get the AI to hit squat in the air and only rarely hit targets on the ground.  Lee Oswald is right about the explosions, they could be quieter, and the blaster projectile and the green "tracer" dont match up at distances over 400m; the projectile is too slow.

These other bugs may have been mentioned before, but

1:  Wrong pilot pos in cockpit (all planes, except tie fighter)

    2:  Bomber can't bomb (bomber)

3:  Imperial Pilot.p3d not found error

Anyhow, this beta preview is REALLY cool, and the coming X-wings look amazing.  I am really impressed with this first showing by your team, good luck and keep it up.  biggrin_o.gif

  3. Yeh I just dled it, its "ok". Much better than most of his earlier work, but has room for improvement. Shashman and Acidcrash are right, USAF markings on an IAF camo scheme... weird. Still a pretty nice addon, just not DKM/BAS caliber.

  4. this addon shows alot of promise...  The bomber's bombs wont fire though   rock.gif   Cant figure it out.

Also, the pilot is in the wrong place in the cockpit in all the models.

lastly, the cannons lock too easily, leading the AI to miss wildly with them.  I also wouldn't mind slightly higher velocity on the cannons.

Aside from these bugs, awesome, i mean, awesome addon.

  5. Quote[/b] ]I dont think thats the version they were using, as that models got to be at least 100,000 faces, not really suitable for ofp. I remember seeing a lower poly version on their site somewhere.

Yeh,obviously...  The mig too, I just couldn't find the ingame shot on their site.  What I posted is a small sample culled from the hundreds of screenshots on the site, everyone should give it a browse.

  6. Great news biggrin_o.gifbiggrin_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Last but not least a good map would be needed.  The Mogadishu map would work temporarily, but hopefully someone will create a really cool "Gaza Strip" map that perhaps could double as a Baghdad map as simulating a neighborhood of a typical Arab city.

I think that the mod should focus on what the flashpoint engine can handle best, high intensity conflict (not low intensity).  The fighting in the territories is great for a CT game, but a fictional war with syria (or anyone for that matter) would take full advantage of the IDF's deadly armor and Air Force.  In addition, any major war would likely feature major action in the territories as well, with the various militant factions sure to play a major role.

  7. didn't mean to sound so rough before... biggrin.gif

um, my comp is actually not bad (1.5ghz, 64mbGeforce3) and the level still lagged quite a bit.  What I meant to say was, IHMO

1:  if you don't start the pilots in the jets (which still makes sense), why dont you have them at least [this setbehaviour "safe"] or something.

2:  Either have the music stop playing after the intro, or have it kick in when you zoom into combat.  Taxiing is not all that exciting, and the music gets repetitive after a few times.

3:  The tomcat addon is not really that great, and it fires HARM missiles (I think) which are anti-radar missiles...  sadly, OFP does not know the difference between a HARM and a Maverick...

Otherwise, the most important part of the mission, the action, is exciting!   I eagerly await the campaign.

  8. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">That would be awesome.  Throwing back the entire Arab world (outnumbering you in armor at least 9 to 1) off of your doorstep and saving Israel... destroying the Syrians in the Golan Heights and beating the Egyptians back across the Sinai... (God, I hope I'm talking about the right war...)<span id='postcolor'>

Yeh, you got the war right... biggrin.gif   73' is a better choice than 67' because it wasn't so one sided.  Both sides had a good chance of winning.  The major drawbacks...

1:  it won't "tie-in" to both european or african conflicts (although I cant think of any 60s-70s conflict that does)

2:  the air battle was mostly IAF jets shooting down EAF and SyRAF jets and Russian SA-6s shooting down israeli jets...

3:  The terrain (sinai) was too big (or rather open) for a game of flashpoint's kind.

The battle for the golan on the other hand was very intense, and featured some of the best combined arms demonstrations from both the syrians and the Israelis.  Tank hunter-killer teams prowling the mountainside while jets flew CAS. Plus, the golan heights do not look that different from Nogova  tounge.gif

    /rant

Ahem!  Syria and Egypt were the ones with the technological advantage throughout the first week of the war.  The US airlift, while providing israel with crucially needed supplies (and some say sattelitte recon as well) does not compare to the military aid the soviet union gave the Arab powers.  It was russian soldiers who manned the SA-6s that shot down 100 israeli planes and russian pilots who defended the skies over egypt. /rant

  9. My criteria here doesn't focuses on addons that show incredible technical achievement (like MH-47E or FA/18) but rather a "perfect fit" in OFPs game world.  Balance.

    Infantry:

    I44 WWII units (both sides)

      SDOC UCE Russian Infantry Pack

      PFLP addon

    Tanks:

      Sigma adversary tank pack

      Ra'anan's merkava?? (just hoping)

      I44 Armor

    Fixed Wing:

DKM Bronco (addon most suitable to OFP gameplay by far, should have been included with game from V 1.0! smile.gif )

      Bratz F4U (pending new textures)

      Gimbal's planes

    Helis:

      Littlebirds

      MI2-hoplite

      Nam pack's choppers

    Islands:

      Dr. No (albeit small)

      Jelahabat

      Cat's Afghanistan

      Hellden (forgot which version)

      Winter Nogojev

    Weapons:

Nam Packs'  HD weapons (i have been waiting for HD weapons for a long time)

      LB pack

      Bas (of course)

    Other:

      Anything by GFX707

      Red's weapon pack

      Kegety's sky

       smile.gif

  10. Israeli Lavi?  Or Kfir, or phantom, or eagle, or falcon (you get the idea)  because VIT's addons are, well,  often sub par confused.gif

    lavi5.jpg

    f-15i_6.jpg

I also really want a good MIG-21 or 19...  I cant believe it hasn't been modeled to death, it has such a natural role in the OFP enviornment.

and....   I think with clever scripted, it would be feasible to make a fully functional camera controlled bomb...  combine the ideas behind the few UAV addons with some camcreated "vehicles" that have limited mobility and fall onto your hapless target...

  11. Ok...

A: dont have the music playing throughout, it adds even more lag (its already too laggy IMHO) and is distracting.

B: Start the pilots in the jets, unless you are going to give the user different jets to choose. use the this moveindriver "name" command...

    C: Too laggy

    D: Too laggy

Otherwise looks like it has promise...

    and less addons too

  12. Its a balance issue, if everyone ran at different speeds, then the squad would fall apart... sometimes too much realism is just that.. too much.

For example, look at ofp multiplayer, do people wait for one another before attacking?  No, they just charge ahead...  and also, I would HATE to see the knife-running effect brought into my beautiful flashpoint like in Vietcong or "you-know-what"-strike.  crazy.gif

In real life, soldiers are trained to run "together" not "as fast as they can".
