http://www.cnn.com/2003....ex.htmlQuote[/b] ]NEW YORK (AP) -- Forced to choose between stories about a hero prisoner of war or a young victim of a bizarre kidnapping, American television viewers narrowly went for the kidnap victim.A made-for-TV movie on CBS about Elizabeth Smart was seen by an estimated 15.7 million viewers on Sunday, Nielsen Media Research said in a preliminary estimate Monday.
"The Elizabeth Smart Story" competed against a similar TV movie about Jessica Lynch on NBC, which had 14.9 million viewers, Nielsen said.
Smart's ratings advantage is expected to hold when final Nielsen ratings are released on Tuesday.
In a ratings "sweeps" month, the two networks chose to go after each other with similar projects. The Smart movie aired about a half-hour later than Lynch's because of a late football game.
NBC hardly considered it a defeat, however. "Saving Jessica Lynch" did slightly better among viewers aged 18 to 49, and was NBC's best-rated TV movie among this prized demographic since "Growing Up Brady" in May 2000.
Actually, more people on Sunday watched a true story involving Lynch than a dramatized account. CBS' "60 Minutes," which carried a Mike Wallace story about a hidden hero in the battle surrounding Lynch, was seen by 17.9 million people.
lol, the headline reads "Smart beats Lynch in TV Battle"
Who writes this stuff? Â

Has anyone seen the piece on PFC Miller? Â IMHO, he is the true hero...
Quote[/b] ]I remember him saying something to the effect that his rifle was in such bad shape from a maintenance standpoint that he had to hit his forward assist several times between shots just to get the weapon to function properly.Yeh, that was Miller. Â He hid behind a sand berm for one hour harrasing an Iraqi mortar team, loading each bullet manually. Â The report also said he ran over one of the ambushers in his escape attempt. Â Then it goes into detail about how he annoyed his captors (told them his snuff was bubble gum) and managed to hide the battalions secret radio frequencies he had stored in his helmet. Â He was the lanky midwesterner with for anyone who's seen the POW videos.
I feel terrible for Lynch simply because she clearly did not wish to be flung into this media whirlwhind - added to the humliation of sexual abuse and pain of her serious injuries.
I'm happy I don't watch TV Â

Maybe this was an intentional "slip." Â To let the neighbors know whats cooking. Â I heard it was a new artillery shell with a 50km range, can't remember where I picked that up though. Â If thats the case, Damascus is only about 60-70km from the northern Golan heights...
EDIT: Now after reading the guardian story, it seems like a genuine f-up,and a missile instead of artillery. Anyone catch a glimpse of this tape?

Quote[/b] ]But did Israel know in advance that the Twin Towers would be hit and the world plunged into a war without end; a war which would give Israel the power to strike its enemies almost without limit? That’s a conspiracy theory too far, perhapsThen why write a 1000 word article implying just that? Â

Acecombat, what is your warrant here? Â What are you implying? Â It seems like the same insinuation we've all heard a million times, and I quote former (thankfully) New Jersey poet laureate Amiri Baraka...
Quote[/b] ]Who knew the World Trade Center was gonna get bombedWho told 4000 Israeli workers at the Twin Towers
To stay home that day
Why did Sharon stay away?
The Jewish Zionist conspiracy, under the protocols of the Elders of Zion, are behind the Sep 11 attacks in order to satisfty their imperial urges...

Please don't buy this bullshit. Â Check your sources. Â Neil Mackay cites no references for these ridiculous claims. Â And always examine the warrant. Â Do you really think the Israeli government allowed 3000 American citizens (including israelis) to die so that they could step up their occupation? Â I want you to answer that question on your own, not by proxy...
P.S. I respect Tex[uSMC]'s efforts to bring some intergrity to these posts, but I must remind everyone that the internet is not exactly a fountain of truth.

UNWRA has alot to do with it, just disputing the common claim that everything sucked once Israel showed up...
BTW
Palestinian literacy 89.2
Bahrain 88.5
oh wait, I just realized we are using conflicting sources with different years... Â While I'm in no position to state which is the truer source, the general point I was making in my post was that the decline of the QOL quotient in the middle east has nothing to do with Zionism (aside from the palestinians). Â I apologize if I made it sound as if Palestinians should be thankful for the occupation.
I have more to say, but I must succumb to sweet precious sleep, "the chief nourisher of life's feast"...

Quote[/b] ]So where is the money that might have kept more Israeli children from going hungry? Much of it has been used on subsidies to ensure that more Israeli children live in colonies on occupied Arab landUm, no. Â Most of it goes into defense spending. Â Israel spends the highest percent of its GDP (BEFORE aid) on its defense budget. Â Secondly, one of Israel's highest sources of revenue, tourism, has almost completely dried up. Â Third, these statistics sound heavily skewed. Â I will certainly agree that Israel has problems with its social welfare policies, but its no iraq.
Quote[/b] ]All peoples in the Middle East have been made poorer by conflictAgain grossly misinformed... Â during ottoman times, calling Palestine a third world country would be an understatement.
Now, the current statistics put Israel as:
21st in the world for total education,
infant mortality rate at 7.37 per 1,000 births (compared to 58.6 in Egypt; who also recieves billions of US $$$),
11th highest in published academic works
and 21st highest in average lifespan.
That doesn't include the countless medical and scientific advances Israel has brought to the world. Â They have made much more than just the UZI you know.
Oh, and one more thing, who are the most literate and educated arabs in the middle east?Palestinians

EDIT: Â For Americans who make Aliyah (move to Israel), the US lets them keep their US citizenship, even though they will inevitably join another countries armed forces. Â So I have one passport I can use to travel the world, and the other to keep Israel from knowing I've done so Â

I have a funny story about roadblocks...
This summer, when Israel restored PA authority to certain cities, I took the oppurtunity to see a old friend in Bethlehem. Â I was in the company of two friends, one, a basque journalist with a press card, and the other, a us citizen (muslim too).
As we approached the checkpoint leading into bethlehem, I realized I had forgotten my US passport at home (i have dual citizenship, US p-port is more "powerful.") Â I tried to get in with my New Jersey driver's liscense (bad idea) and the soldiers didn't think too highly of it. Â My friend's made it through just fine, and I had to catch a cab back into town to grab my passport. Â

After a half an hour, I returned to the checkpoint, my friends still waiting, and gave it another try. Â As I handed my passport to the soldiers, they recognized me, and decided to have a little fun. Â They looked it over, started talking amongst themselves (not knowing I speak Hebrew) and saying there was "no visa stamp"! Â I panicked inside - and when one the soldiers put my passport in his pocket and told me to leave - i freaked. Â After I had exhausted myself yelling and arguing with them, they took out the passport, looked it over again, and said "oops, here's the visa, sorry" and sent me on my way. Â Â

Ironically neither my Muslim friend (who had egyptian and jordian stamps on his passport) or my Basque friend (who had a gaza stamp!) got any trouble from the border police.
Postscript: Â I'm not trying to make light of the checkpoint system in Israel, as it is a very difficult fact of life for Palestinians (and the israeli's who have to man them). Â But I figured this thread could use some humor.

That should take some of the heat of RHS!

That heli looks great, although I would also like to see a USMC texture. Â Keep up the good work.

Been following this mod since the beggining, great work. And its great that you are working with the ECP people, this kind of collaborative additude really says alot about the mod community as a whole. Â One question? Â Should I put the new .wss dynamic range soundpack in? Or still use the .ogg one?

If you haven't ever heard about any of them maybe you should grab a few documentaries about it or something before calling people brainwashed because they dont think like you do.I don't care how you think. Â And I'm not even saying that I haven't heard these fake trial stories before. Â But since you are claiming to have seen "too many" of these trials I thought you might be kind enough to share at least one of your sources of info. Â Obviously, I don't like people making unsupported accusations. Â And if I ever fail to post source links for my claims then you may call me a propagandist too.
So, for the third time, where's your link to the "many fake trials" claim?
Don't worry I won't ruin your Saint.LOL
Liighten up already!!I'm sorry, but I have to step in here.  I can do one better than a link... but read this for background first (from a chinese site, perhaps as neutral as possible)
http://fpeng.peopledaily.com.cn/200110/18/eng20011018_82548.html
This summer I studied at Hebrew University in Jerusalem for my masters in international relations, and I was fortunate enough to study with a member of the British-American security force assigned to guard the Palestinian's accused of Ze'evi's assination (like an ofshoot of TIPH). Â Why were American's and Brits watching him? Â Because after Arafat's force 17 arrested them, they were used as a bargaining chip to get Israel to withdraw from the Mukhata (during the attack last year). Â Essentially, Arafat warned, "Unless you withdraw from Ramalah, we will release these convicted murderers." Â In the end, the US and Britain stepped in and offered to "hold them" Â (they are outside Yericho now).
And here are some links about other prisoner releases, but I see no reason as to why you should hold this as proof; after all, it's the internet.
Palestinians arrested for deaths of 5 americans in october (about halfway down)
Mostly about Palestinians held in Israeli jails, but segment on the bottom about Arafat
Now obviously you won't find any info on Arafat releasing prisoners on left wing sites like indymedia or The Guardian but just understand that even left wing israeli's like myself can't stand Arafat. Â You can certainly draw convincing links between Shamir Lehi and terrorism, and I'm even willing to put up with the argument that Sharon isn't exactly peachy, but Arafat is a currrently active terrorist. He sends his head Fatah deputies to meet with Hamas and Islamic Jihad regularly. Â End of story.
EDIT: Â Well look at that! Â I found a liberal source as well!

Here's an idea. Â Instead of assigning UA abilities to individual units, just use the included UA radio object, and leave it on a table near the base. Â That way, only one person can use artillery at a time and he/she is stuck at the base while the rest of the team can call in coords from out in the field.
Then every player has access to artillery support, and its the responsibility of the "artillery commander" to deliver it based on need. Â This "artillery commander" can be assigned informally by the team in the briefing, at the game setup menu in a dedicated slot, or to whoever decides to step up and use it.
Eh?

But there is no way to keep the riot shield from "bleeding" when hit, you know?

The Addon CD was done once before way back by a popular OFP site (blanking on the name.. it had alot of blue). Â Does anyone remember the site and how successfull or unsuccesfull it was?
In my own opinion, I see an Addon CD as a good way to get the biggest and best addons (no betas) into players hands who dont browse the forums much, or have slow connections.
And I would never pay for an addon.

I agree that the camera is a little extraneous for single seat planes...
but what about two-seaters? Couldn't the gunner's screen change to the TV guided display after the munition is released? This could only work through talented scripting of course, and the bomb would have to be released through the action menu i believe...
lets not totally discredit this idea...
p.s. Awesome planes footmunch

Has anybody read the book by the russian soldier who fought in chechnya? Â I forget the title, but that's not important. Â He described the BMP3 in less than thrilling words, even though, on paper, it had some serious specs. Â In the end, they used it as a stationary gun platform for installation defense. Â I have read this in other places as well. Â Many designs look great in conception, but fail in implementation. Â The ARENA has not been combat tested, and we must understand that the stats we read are provided by the company to try and sell their product.
Furthermore, the russian arms industry, as of late, does not even have an army that can afford its equipment! Â If ARENA did work as promised, i'm sure it would only be seen on .001% of the tanks they had anyways.
P.S. Â I'm not trying to rag on the russian army in any way... the American army, with its uber-tanks, still lost a few Abrams to Kornet missiles in the Gulf (although the crews did survive). Â I'm just trying to promote balance in OFP gameplay. Â Oh, and your tanks look amazing! Â

What militaria do you own?
