But DLAW type systems add to the soldiers burden due to their encumberance (sp?), additionnal weight per unit compared to rounds of ammunition for reloadable weapon systems and lack of versatility. You need to have a wide panel of different warloads for certain missions, loadout which can show to be tedious to set up. Special aiming devices need to been put on before and taken off after the useof the disposable systems, which even if it doesn't pose much problems on recent systems can steal precious seconds (as carrying it shouldered with the special sighting devices can be problematic with certain fragile systems). On the plus side, they allow do decentralise the possession of AT assets allowing more men in a squad to neutralise armored vehicle thus lowering the ammount of potential disruption in the unit if one of the AT systems bearer gets taken out. But it must be said that disposable weapons will never fully replace reloadable weapons as they more often that not offer larger warheads and a larger variety of warheads. Call me old fashioned (It's also mostly because I hated carrying an APILAS around, weapon which shown the limits of the disposable systems)

I'm working on the KraKa, well I have been working on it. http://ofp.gamepark.cz/_hosted/bwmod/users/TeRp/KraKa_01.jpg http://ofp.gamepark.cz/_hosted/bwmod/users/TeRp/KraKa_02.jpg (sorry for the bad pictures, can't make proper renders right now) There will be a few different versions, e.g. MK20, "ambulance" and the standard transport version. However, I had to stop working on it, because I'm not able to find good pictures of the engine. If anybody has any (high) detailed pictures please drop me a pm. If I wasn't already married ... hehehehehehehehe, I already see myself charging hordes of commies on the Mk20 one hehehehe. -edit- Hellfish, come here so I can kiss your ass skin skullcap with the ball of my foot (j/k) no hatred I wuv you back on the Kraka topic : http://www.autobild.de/aktuell....8f504b0 I'm sure you already came accross that one in your quest for source material, a few close up shots, pretty small though, I doubt they'd be of any use for reference and texture purpose though, but you never know ....

I want a german Kraka with all the options !!!! -Edit- contacted any french addon maker/team yet btw ? Could be interesting to include a few french units, especially if the Czechoslovaks are present in the mod(the french having been deployed in the southwest).

A coup d'état in thailand ? you've got to be kidding me ... I honestly can't believe you ... 1947 - Military coup by the wartime, pro-Japanese leader Phibun Songkhram. The military retain power until 1973. 1973 - Student riots in Bangkok bring about the fall of the military government. Free elections are held but the resulting governments lack stability. 1976 - Military takes over again. 1991 - Military coup, the 17th since 1932. A civilian, Anand Panyarachun, is installed as prime minister. This was bound to happen seeing the recent political context there. Not counting all the unrest down there. Let's hope it will put a small dent in the sex tourism business ...

0.3 seconds after that picture was taken I shot the photographer Well if you you're gonna warn people you'll be walking around with a camera you should also mention it in English in case there are some dumb foreigners who don't speak Czech happens Either it was involuntary or the result of the czech sense of humour and joke spirit On my first trip there I remember of a little foreigner welcome in the form of a whisky glass filled with Slivovice which was to be drunk as fast as possible, naturally ended up with 3 other glasses from my "friends" who had smellt it Nice cap btw (not touristy-looking at all , joking aside, it looks like a nice cap )

reminds me of a WW2 vintage polish anti-tank rifle

*scratches his head and grunts* Hmmm yeah ... I didn't get more than 20% of the discussion That's me being old and illiterate. Nothing to contribute here really, just wanted to say that it's nice to see a civilised yet enriching discussion here coming out of a controversial subject, changes from the Middle East thread. Thanks for coming back Denoir btw. To add a bit to the discussion now ... Someone mentionned Romania earlier as a 3rd world country, I'd tend to disagree there, might be geographical bias as it's close to us but it's developping lately it seems, isn't it and shall enter the European Union next, am I wrong ? As for France, can't really judge as I'm in a pretty priviledged position. Everything would be made simpler would union leaders see a bit farther than the tip of their nose. The old "those are the rights we earned with our blood" argument doesn't fly too well in my ears as we're not in the 30's anymore and times have changed drastically. The french work code and working rights should be heavily simplified as it's all a real hinderance to progress, I mean we have 11 and more work contracts types (the french work code in its physical book form is around 2500 pages long and is in its 68th edition for god's sake). This should be done while keeping our "basic" (in the french sense of the term) aquired rights. People around here are looking for peace and safety in their worklife but they have a hard time computing the fact that you can't work in the same trade all your life anymore and nothing can help that. I don't want to see a complete deregulation though as some of those things are part of our culture, but a little cleaning of that mess wouldn't hurt along with some people opening their eyes to what's around them. (and the solution to healthcare problems would be to turn up the heaters in retirement houses in july and august for a couple of years, but that's just me j/k)

Where did I contradict myself ? I'm not a Finn and you have to agree that historically, they've shown a great deal of efficiency facing the reds. OT, and quite a few people would tend to disagree and sheer numbers aren't the only factor that counts, but this is another whole discussion. If I've shown any anti-americanism, I'm sorry about that. I would have jumped the same on any fanboy, no matter which nation he is from. This makes sense and is actually constructive as mission builders don't always bother setting up units in a squad in a sensible order and even then, this particular order wouldn't suit all people, so I'm all for this. And as you said the option to assign a formation to team would also come in handy in certain circumstances.

From what I recall and if I don't confuse it with something else it was based on radio scripts and was relatively ressource hungry, am I wrong ?

Spot on and much better worded and straight to the point than my rant. Kudos to you Frederf.

You are gloating and the "high horse thing" does apply, stop the patronizing, that's good only when you know who you're talking to. If you don't want to get wasted ingame because of the insufficient AI, just learn how to play. You can set up fireteams through the command dialog, you've got a set of formations and other settings that are already enough. All we need to see is a slightly refined AI.

Agreed with Trev'. Are we going to go on an ethical brainfarting session everytime there's something that -might- be controversial in the eyes of certain people who often times are the least concerned ? Why are some people putting themselves in the place of certain persons without anybody asking them ? The now popular acronym that's so widespread in the media ever since coallition troops re-discovered the joys of improved devices is so nasty ? IED's or however you call them have been part of guerrilla warfare for several decades now. You want a simulation or a PC Carebears hugfest ? Did you hear an outcry from me when CoC released its mines ? This could have seriously offended me, damn ... I doubt Hadji is going to spend 50 bucks on a videogame and the ammount needed for a high end computer just to learn how to plant bombs when he could learn as easily through cheap paper illustrated publications or practicing with dummies on a desert road in the countryside. Oddly enough most of the noise comes from people who live in a country where ressources to build homemade weaponry and explosives are readily available ... Oh the irony ...

Get off your high horse, please. I'm not one to judge somebody based on a post count and a joining date but there... This game is not US based. Sure, it's more than likely that the US forces will be the focus of the SP campaign but think about the rest of the game for a second ? What about standalone missions, be they SP or MP ? Who gives you the right to speak in the name of your countrymen and what does the notion of citizenship and your country's history have to do with this discussion ? Let the trolls starve, don't feed them. What about getting a slight clue of what the OFP gameplay mechanics are before logging in here ? On the topic of clues, you might want to hang around here a bit to get a glimpse of this community's mentality before going ballistic at the least comment, man. What you're talking about can easily be done in cooperative mode, especially if the squad you belong to is as professional as you say. Focusing on this minor detail in sight of the workload the development of the whole game represents would be a needless loss of time. The improvements that are needed are the upgrade of the physics and graphic engines. Add to that the fact that OFP in its vanilla incarnation offers most of what you've described earlier. People put them to use or not depending on their inspirations ingame. It may not have the shiny names from the US field manuals ingame but it's there and it's feasible in OFP, I don't see why it wouldn't be in ArmA. Keep in mind, as pointed out before that the command and formation system needs to remain relatively universal to allow user made mods and addons to retain as much realism as the vanilla units. It must be kept open ended. Also it's all fine and dandy, but keep that "elite" rethoric to the squads forum please and keep in mind that books are nice and all but the real experience, you scrape it from the field. Now, Second, I can't believe that such an attitude comes from a member (doesn't matter wether reservist or full time) of one of the finest european armed force.

It's in the same vein as the makeshift armored vehicles made in former yugoslavia when the war erupted, though it would make sense to cover the motor with armor plates too. http://www.armyrecognition.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=215

I could try to get you some simple basic infantry acts and reflex schematics and sketches from some french manuals. Don't forget that OFP's scope is relatively large, so you'll have to give them basics in topography and land navigation along with some "common tactical sense" on a much wide scale than what they could have met in OFP.

hehehehehehehehehe I liked Ronaldo's desperate foot plants. -edit- Et un, et un, et un, zéro.

Louison Bobet .... or not heh

"How do you say 'cheating' in French?" We could ask ask it in spanish too to make a nice billingual dictionnary including aragones' racial slurs too. I saw a quite a few fouls from the spaniards, and IMHO they did more than the french. Cheating is said "tricher"(verb) or "tricherie"(noun) in french (pronounce tr-ee-sh-ay or tr-ee-sh-a-r-ee).
-
Take that Aragones ! Nice game, we can be proud, les bleus at least redeemed themselves after the 2002 fiasco. Whatever happens now, I'll be fine with it. It would be nice to do a remake of the 1998 finals for the quarters against brazil, but the thing is that we don't have anything to loose anymore and that a defeat against brazil would be quite honorable.

Small thing I did quickly a while ago, made it for a presentation on WW1 my niece had to do at school

It's not impossible you're right, but they'd get a few shahidin on the way for a relatively low effect depending on the grade of the mustard agent used.
-
Forgot about the Sarin, if the stockpiles found date back from before 1991 or even 1997, it isn't worth shit today.

Cheap mustard gas, antiquated vector shells ... yeah ... London going kaboom within 45 minutes, terrorist threat, crazy evil saddam blah blah. It doesn't go even worse FS pilot, it just slightly degrades depending on the environmental conditions which more often tend to alter its state. It's normally colorless and oily in its normal state when it's not mixed with other chemicals. It's dispersed as an aerosol so the possibility of terrorists creating an efficient aerosol weapon out of ages old chemical shells it is pretty small. Simply utting a grenade on top of a bunch of artillery shells won't do shit except possibly scratch the paint (still with the ridiculously small possibility of the grenade actually igniting on of the fuses). To dispose of UXO you actually need a bit more expertise than just taping a grenade to a pile of shells and it's the same for IED makers. Don't worry, you can sleep safe FSpilot... after some thought, no ... if they can detonate roadside bombs made out of old artillery shells and pay card mobile phones ... I'm not telling any more. heh
