    The dutroux trial has begun.

I agree ,they are steriotype's of people's ,not a true reflection of what a people is ,i expressed that in my post to.This Frecnh/Belgian squabble was started by Ran ,though addmitingly he it probably started as a joke.So we fired some steriotype's back at him ,but i think noone here does even think that those steriotype's are a true reflection for the totality of that people. I think Ran's comment was ment as a joke ,and although i don't like nation bashing i'm not i wouldn't advocate a total ban on not to offensive nation joke's.If i would see a dutchman here making joke's on Flemmish i would probably laugh at them and fire some jokes back. I also expressed that this thread should return to the original topic. If allowed such not to offensive nation jokes should be limited to a joke forum or joke thread in the OT forum. i was not trying to bash anything, just describing what goes through the head of some of my "fellow" countrymen i share none of these views (well, except a few on which you agree too such as flaws in your justice). (though i have to admit some of my past experiences with belgians could be a great sources for jokes, for both sides) Stereotypes are unfortunately one of the things which counts the most in people's minds.

If this defines a french, then I know none. Sorry, I'm french and I don't have such stupid considerations about who's the dumbest of our neighbours. We have ours and it's already more than enough. And the others taking part in this conversation are just the same: what the Hell!!!... are you trying to make the image of SOME people in very specific circumstances the image of whole countries and their people? Stick to the dutroux crap and leave the other considerations with your naive views of the World. "Il y a de plus en plus de con chaque année. Je crois que ceux de l'année prochaine sont déjŕ lŕ." Coluche "There's more jerks each year. I think that next year ones are already here." Coluche well, i don't know you personnaly, but it's the general feeling i have when i talk with my friends, relatives and coworkers Get off your high horses, the Naational front has maade quite an impressive score during the last elections ...... not everybody is as white as you seem (no pun intended), a large ammount of people share the moronic view of this party and an even bigger part of the population in populous/industrious franges thinks that way, which is, i have to admit quite scary. Now it's great to see somebody not basing his words on stereotypes but your definition of a mainstream, basic, rough frenchman is not mine ... and believe me, i've been able to see quite a few people during my yet short life to make the comparaison. Our population is in great parts made of bigots except mainly in the youth and some idealists. We will all go lower than dirt in certain circumstances and crawl in the mud. When our president makes speeches about the "noise and odors" of an african familly, you can only fear the worst about the rest of the population, which often comes true. But admittedly, our Belgian neighboors aren't the brightest when it comes to certain (numerous) domains (sorry but that's the thruth, well, at least for the Wallons i got to meet) and notice the bold part and finally, my view of the world is certainly flawed, but not so naive

There is such a saying in France: "Les petit Belge" . Knowing French pretty well ,i know these people have a superiority feeling in their nature. (Chauvinism!) Anyway ,were usually relativly more accepeted By French people than most other people ,mostly because most of us Belgian speak French and the french see us as "half French". (While the Germen's see us as "half Germans") That said ,if you want a job done don't ask a Frenchmen ,there are a lot of French "working" in Belgium ,but that is relative because in comparison the usual Belgian is a much harder worker than a Frenchmen ,so we rather have Germans working here. I don't think French respect us that much ,but they respect us more than other nationality's IMO ,atleast here they can be in a foreign country and still speak French and eat good food and drink good wine ,they won't get in theyre other neighbouring country's. (except from luxemburg maybe) Well, it's not really that we dislike you but frankly .. you give us the knives to stab you with ...... My last remark was that our medias and justice weren't as dumb as yours since most of the affairs got solved without being overly mediatised. A lot, if not most of the french have a bad image of your country because of the picture made by your government, institutions and medias ..... most of us consider you as the "little retarded neighboor" i know it is wrong but hell ..... when you offer us such exemples, how can we not follow the bandwagon and think all belgians are stupid and worst ? French people on the other hand are generally quite proud and this pride sometimes reaches arrogance. We"re often no better than belgians, but at least we try to hide it. as said recently on the TV : You cannot make jokes about arabs anymore You cannot make jokes about jews anymore You cannot make jokes about black people anymore You cannot make jokes about handicaped people anymore But you still have the belgian jokes ... tells a lot about the ambiant state of mind

I think this dates back from the colonial era, we always recruited locals. And I doubt any metropolitan first class would enjoy spending long months away from his homeland

Yup that makes me curious as well, being held without being found guilty...... If he did what he is accused of doing then he should die, plain and simple, some people don't deserve to breathe and anyone who abuses and murders children certainly does not deserve to breathe IMO. that's belgium for you ........ at least that's what it looks like from here

well .... how come your medias can make your country look so bad ? In france, we don't doubt that Dutroux is guilty and the he's a monster, but the whole affair has been like a farce here, between the incompetence of your gendarmerie/police and the belgian media coverage ...... It's just the source for more belgian jokes here ... -edit- : Ran master in orthograph since 1527

Haiti president have left the building/haiti

I think he doesn't care anymore he never cared all that much either How short people's memory is. Aristide was a reformist president, one that wanted to turn Haiti from a country ruined by fascist dictators into a powerful carribean economy. However, his policies had one downside. They encouraged land reform and nationalisation of businesses. The communist alarm bells rang loudly in Washington and they managed to oust him with the same method as now many years ago. Then Clinton managed to get him in, in return for very downsized reforms. Looks like he did too much again. I would not be surprised at all if the CIA nation builders were at it again. For those who think that I am talking tripe, have a read: http://members.aol.com/bblum6/haiti2.htm I read this book btw, the sources are all top-notch. well, he cared too much then i have to admit i'm the one who didn't care all that much about Haiti until the end of 2003

shit happens .... If Aristide hadn't given a reason for the "Cannibals" to turn against him .... he would still be in power. You can consider that there are 3 sides in the civil war ongoing in Haiti right now: the govermentals, the "cannibals" and other armed rebel groups which are former Aristide's supports and the political opposition to Aristide. for now, the "cannibals" team up with the oponents to the power in place (or which used to be in place) but this may not last ... the "Cannibals" and other "Chimeries" are fighting for some kind of Vendetta (their leader has been killed by Aristide's forces because he was becoming too popular and powerful)

    The Iraq thread 3

The first thing you do when you want to set up a HQ is to check for potential threats ranging from hidden explosives devices (timed bombs, remotely triggered ones, AP mines), marksmen who would have been left behind and all kinds of booby-traps and other bad surprises ... and you do that especially when the HQ will be the shelter of z General or any high-ranking officer, this implies a systematic and complete reasearch and checks in everypart of the said building. That said, in a war situation, nowadays war leaders tend to avoid towns and cities since these places are either strategical targets for the defender or snipers/saboteurs nests for the attacker

    Should landmines be banned?

the prob with landmines is that you can't go MICLIC on large minefields and mine-removal vehicles are unaffordable for most armies or aren't on their to priority lists ...... I hate mines, the creators of such death toys weren't conscious of the perverted use and consequences of these devices, no more needs to be said. Mines=Evil, the reasons for this have been stated multiple times before.
