    Goodmorning Sahrani Episode 18

I had quite a laugh yesterday..nice interview wipman
  2. Can the game's default Friendly Tags be tweaked, so that they will not show distance, but just the name, at a given max distance? IE: You will be able to see your teammate only at 15m, more than that you won't be able to recognize friendly from enemy. If so, do i have to take a look into the ui.pbo? Or somewhere else?

Unfortunately, seem you were right Loyalguard: I do not think you can affect this by config. Regards

I am aware of your script. It needs testing for what i have in mind (IC-Arma) though, to be sure it doesn't create lag spikes. Spoon's was tested some time ago, it was laggy because of the looping scripts he used. I have checked most of the configs now, without finding it. I have also checked the wiki and all the community forums and resources i am aware of, but without any luck..Seems no one really knows how this functions. Thanks for your quick reply.

March 6th Update on Patch Status

I can only assume that you and the people you refer to simply do not understand what VON allows for compared to TS. Out of the entirety of ShackTac, I can't think of anyone in our group who hasn't found VON to add a fantastic additional level of communication to our gaming. I think any other groups that even attempt to be a fraction as organized will benefit similarly from what VON brings to the table. For public servers in particular it allows for a great ease-of-use, allowing for simple, logical communication without having to worry about connecting to a Teamspeak server. The "direct speaking" mode is something that simply cannot be matched by Teamspeak, no matter how badly you wish it could be. The nice thing, though, is that I don't have to really sell it to you - it's been developed, and you can either use it or not. No loss to me if you choose it ignore it, but every gain to me when ShackTac employs it. We've had some amazing sessions already using it, not to mention taking advantage of it to have experiences that are not possible with TS-only - the perfect example being our paratrooper missions. I must say, the thought of the entire IC-ArmA group purportedly not being able to see the benefit of VON is surprising. I guess there's a level of fluid comms-related teamwork that the group is not interested in pursuing. Pity. I wonder if other tournament groups like ToW are more in tune with what VON allows? I did not say that VON will not be used if it will be there and it will work. I also agree that it could indeed bring the ease of use to the public, without the need of TS. Some features are not matched by TS, like the Direct Speaking. But what i have seen so far, did not impressed me. I am not arguing with its use, i am arguing with its priority - as far as i remember i said "it is not a priority for the community (and i meant for the community that i am part of) - it is a BIS priority. In my opinion and in those that i quoted there are more important things to be fixed. But yet again, the groups that i am talking about are using TS, have access to it and have developed their comms accordingly. Regarding the IC-Arma, i feel that it's hard, and not only for them, to be fully aware of how this can enhance the comms, at it never really worked so far ( 1.09 was tested, because of it's limited capability to work with 50+ players, the lack of linux dedicated server and the poor implementation of VON, it has been denyed untill a proper patch would be released). For this kind of community, other aspects have a priority over VON. I am surprise that this is so hard to understand. One of the problems is the high number of players and the limited BIS support. I know for example that logs and statistics were sent to BIS, showing that it's possible to achieve allmost-lag free games with twice of what it's written on the box, but the replays were hardly interested in this kind of free beta test for a feature game. As a conclusion, I think no one is against VON, not even me, or its future usage, but most of us would have preferred the team (probably limited in numbers) to focus first on other aspects of this game that needs to be addressed.

March 6th Update on Patch Status

I like how certain people keep citing that it is "not a community issue". A poll was done by such a poster, thinking that there was no community interest in VON. The results of the poll were OVERWHELMINGLY supportive of VON being fixed, when obviously he had hoped to prove that there was not any community interest. He was wrong. So are you. Try relying on facts and not drawn-out-of-thin-air assumptions in the future, please. Well, i might be wrong then..i probably missed that VON poll. But well, my assumptions are not based on "thin air". I based my post on what the clan that i am part of things about it, about how a big part of our regulars thinks about it, and about how a big part of IC community thinks about it. If i sum up, that is close to 250 ppl. So i might be as wrong as you are now.

Getting the most out of Arma

Common, get serious about Sahrani Life...It's fun maybe for a few days. The evo is so damn boring, at least for me. If you want to get as much as possible out of Arma, i suggest you get Arma Effects and FDF or FROMZ sound mods at least. I would say get 6th Sense tracers (-pack1) as well Then try to join a clan for coops, or join one of the tourneys out there for a large scale(100+) PvP match. I can redirect you to this one www.ic-arma.com

March 6th Update on Patch Status

Well, this is the problem here. I for instance are more interested in MP issues, but general as well. But this doesn't mean one can go without the other, and i am not gonna b**** about not having it released, or not having enough info. I already got used to that, and i think so should have a lot of other members of this community. But latelty i see that BIS is updating the developer blog on a regularly basis, with info regarding both ArmA and the coming ArmA 2. That is a step forward. If you are talking about the VON (as the MP issue), then yes, i'll give that: it's taking a hell lot of time for a feature few ppl are interested in. Yes, that is was here since day one, but was not working. But how many people were in fact complaining about this, and how many about a lot of others? But has been discussed a thousand time before, it's a BIS priority, not a community. I can live with that. I have heard about any other games that i've played and took part in its community: "we are not gonna buy the following game, i am pissed with X developer, Y publisher for whatever reasons." I wonder how many real fans of this type of game, of OFP and Arma, will go around ArmA 2 and buy...next COD? This is still a game that has no rival, no other developer will be releasing such a big open-source game..You think OFP2 will be alike? I doubt..

Arma beta patch 1.09 - released

    http://www.bistudio.com/developers-blog/arma-support-and-patching-plans-part-ii-3_en.html
  11. I got a problem with O2. I cannot make buldozer to work properly I have set everything up right, but still doesn't work: 1. I have set the external viewer as "F:\Jocuri\ArmA\arma.exe" -buldozer -window -noland after talking with Wedge, but even if starts right, i get the following error and the model itself is not shown in the buldozer screen 2. If i set the external viewer path to F:\Jocuri\ArmA\arma.exe -buldozer -window -noland (without the "") i get the following full-screen, although O2 says the external view has been attached, and the model, of course is not shown up: I have tried with and without the new ddls (OFP ones) for Oxygen 2. I have tried all the possible combination i could have think of. But still it doesn't work. This is the log file form O2, maybe it helps. Both variants there: Any suggestion is more than welcome
  12. been waiting for it for a long time now. I am cheking for it daily after the Sahrani Radio Interview
  13. Good initiative here sickboy. I was searching for some 3DS -> o2 import and skinning tutorials around. I couldn't find a good one. PS: panda's link is the BI forums main page
  14. I agree with sickboy on this. The war between pvp players and coop players is idiotic. Two different types of game. Me and my clan usually play coop, more or less tactical, but we host events where we get more serious about it. Joint Coops are always fun, Matt Rochell is right there. And if you think Evolution is the only coop map out there you are so wrong (we don't host it, and we never missed it). It's way easier to have a good game going with a lot less players on the server. Running 6thSense.eu AIAccuracy and 6thSense AIRange together with DMSmokeGrenadeVB and Durg's vegetation fix server side allowed us to have some more fun fighting AI. Cheers for making those lads! The problem with PvP games is rushing, and ppl that camp the other's base - scorewhores. It's mission's fault on a side, but it's also players fault. It hardly ever turns into strategy gameplay - you can't have everyone on TS, you can't have everyone acting accordingly. This is one of the aspects that turned most Arma players away from the PvP games. You can not enforce to anyone on public servers to act in this way or another. Besides, the options that are out there for this kind of game is limited = Berzerk. I know there are other maps CTF and such out there, but they turn into CS way to often. I am a veteran in International Conflict Tourney and a juniour member of ATOW. So i get my weekly share of good PvP game, all under certain rules, with no ppl going rambo and with everybody assigned to a certain role. IC tournout for the past 3 weeks was 100+ people in two sides that fight each others according to plan that was put together during the week. There are commanders, companies COs and squad leaders that need to holster their men, disobeying orders is something that is not tolerated. You don't see ppl tking for vehicles, running away by themselves and so on, because everyone know what he has to do, everyone is on TS! So great PvP games can be hosted and run, but i think NOT ON PUBLIC SERVERS. About the 1.09 servers. We had our server patched, game seemed to run well server side and client side, but we had 2-3 players on average connected, while with 1.08 we had 10-15 in the afternoons and full server in the evening (that is either because everyone is playing that damn Evo map, or because there is just a bunch of ppl with 1.09 installed and running). This will hopefully change once a final patch is released, and there will be no more splitting the community like today.

Interview with Ondrej Spanel ( Suma )

But i wasn't saying anything about any release dates. That is my last concern. But in a few months would be ok (even i have read a post on bistudio about patch 1.09 saying something alike, but that was delayed with another 2 months rather than weeks). Besides BIS is/was well known for having a tight relation with the community, thus creating such an mod-able game (or the other way around). It's not a new game for me because: i am using a dx9 card (x1950xtx so i didn't have the fog bug), i did not have any crashes whatsoever with this game since i have changed one of my faulty ram sticks, and me and the clan that i'm part are using TS - no real need for voip and using server side addons to improve the AI. But what i hate about 1.09 is the mgs recoils and 50cals - just to arcadish, the tree lods -yes, smoother gameplay but uglier graphics, and the fact that there is no linux server for it. What i am saying here is to have some sort of uploaded developer's blog and have some info about what is going on. i just hope BIS did take a look at the Feedback Thread and listened to the players. sry for the second of-topic. this is the last one

Interview with Ondrej Spanel ( Suma )

I don't really get why the next patch is taboo. I mean the last patch is a beta, and haven't done much to clear the game out of bugs. For me and for a lot of other ppl playing this and trying to enjoy, 1.09 is still not enough, and there are numerous things to be dealt with in the given thread, for it's next release. Besides it split the community, because most of the servers are still running the 1.08. I just saw that ShackTac is running a 1.11 server, but i couldn't find any news related to that. The players should be kept informed. So some kind of question i think is a must, and a more elaborated answer should be given, besides the "when it's done", because, for me at least, that implies some changes, and not only features like Voip that doesn't work, but fluent animation, game stability, proper recoils/ballistics. Sorry if this is a little oftopic.

    Escapist article on Arma

I'm sorry but the way the article was written, focused more on true coop groups rather than the rambo pubie (who has every right to play the way he likes, but don't tell me Evolution is the only map out there for "good coops" as it is not), the author could have touched the PVP side of those group/clans, without a need to raise to the skies the berzerk maps. There are 2 PVP tourneys for Arma, out there, where you need to train, there is a hierarchy, be involved into some sort of battle plan and yes, play against another army every Saturday/Sunday , and where every decision that you make can bring a victory or a loss, in ones tourney case, and more resources or not for the other tourney. Besides, the game is dynamic, and you can get to play on the whole Sahrani by pushing or being pushed by the other side. In my opinion this is the best experience that you might get from this game, the most strategic one. The AI is not that bright, you can figure out sooner or later what they gonna throw at you, even if their action are heavily scripted. Humans are a lot more fun to play against. Both games are large scale battles, pushing the arma's server limits beyond the 100 mark limit (close to 110 from 120 capped) for the veteran tourney and closer to 70 out of 90 for the newest one. www.ic-arma.com currently running campaign 3, the first arma tourney. www.arma-tow.com i not sure here, i think campaign one, or just after beta, i recently joined this one. Different approaches, almost the same results: a tactical online army experience and community. And the way arma was meant to be play.

    RH M4/M16 pack 1.0

yes...use the config posted above there are no soldiers with the ecotech. just look into the empty-ammo and place the RH m4 ammo box in your editor. You'll then have the whole pack avaible.

    Laser-guided bombs

You can only "paint" targets for vehicles on your side. So if you have a mission with vanilla units/vehicles, you won't be able to use a harrier and LD a target with a RACS soldier (ie: domination) On the other hand, you can have a SU equipped with GBUs (all you have to do is remove his default weapons and ammo in the init and add the GBUs there. i don't know all the names of the weapons/ammo by heart but i have used this in one of my missions) and have SLA units LD targets for that. Besides laser designators can be used not only for the gbus but also for other precise hit runs - you can use that with a SU for a precise strafe over a designated area, rather than marking it on the map.
  20. Is it just me or does the Kamov's rotor sounds like a moped? Besides that: the best sound mod out there. Most of my clan mates switched to this one. But i got this error every time i connect to a MP server. I press ok and everything is ok tho:

    RH M4/M16 pack 1.0

so is anyone doing that replacement config after all? including boxes as well? Flashbang did a good job but was too lazy to finish it ). What i would love too see is the acog sights, or in fact their small "iron sights" on top being used in CQB (i know a few weapons in six sense mod did that).

    RH M4/M16 pack 1.0

Nice work mate. Looks great, some more tweaking needed here and there, but nothing much (maybe making the m203 sights poping up when selected if that is possible - it might not be due to arma engine).
  23. After all it's just a matter of taste..But i after trying most of the sound mods out there, i'll stick with ffamm one as i find the sounds to be closest to the real ones. Well done Fromz!

Arma feedback thread - based on 1.09

i was looking for something else when i found this: m113 at4 info this is for those who think that a light anti-armor weapon can flip a tank, or take it out with 1-2 shots. I like the fact that 1.09 patch makes the armored vehicles more than just a death trap. i would like to see some tweaks on the damage system though.
