We need AMD Ryzen Benchmarks! Share your toughts!
PuFu replied to clawhammer's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
i for one am really happy that AMD released such a CPU. I am putting money on the side to get myself a 1800x workstation for 1/3 of the price i would need for a similar 8c/16t intel CPU. If you want a really good gaming CPU, get a i5. -

PuFu replied to grooovy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
i don't care at all, i just wanted to crack on the myth that buying content from 3rd party like tbsq or cgtrader means it is allowed to turn that into an addon. why do you care if you don't mind me asking though? -
Russian navy boats (3D models)
PuFu replied to grooovy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
1. "secure enough" doesn't cut it. the tools in question does not go under reverse engineer or ripping btw (which is usually done via injecting into DX). 2. ha ha. I would hit these with DMCAs even if if the files would be openly available in .fbx format, because the RHS EULA clearly stipulates the use of our content. 3. i wouldn't call it hard to come by either. 4. again, we can argue as long as you want. Because each individual item on tbsq follows a different eula, it is surely safe to assume that a message need to be send towards the author before considering that it is allowed to re-distribute it as de facto... also if we are talking about 3d content here, this content comes with textures which is part of the same item that is sold and covered by the same EULA. You are well aware that both .pbo files and .paa files of these textures can be opened using BI provided tools yeah? -

PuFu replied to grooovy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
i quoted directly from turbosquid license page, you quoted from wikipedia.... that said, if what you say would be true, i could buy a 3d model from TBSQ and sell it further while making a profit, which is false.. -

PuFu replied to grooovy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
i think you are the one who is not familiar with the license here royalty free license does not mean that redistribution is allowed. And releasing an addon is precisely what it is = redistribution. in short, binned p3d files isn't by any means a secure format. it is just optimized for game use. -

1. if you put real man hours value to most mods here, even at 50% of the market rates, you end up in excess of hundred of thousands of dollars per year. Most people are not aware of the amount of time, money and knowhow required to make the simplest things as a mod these days...hence the "add this or that" thing going on. 2. i think that there are mods out there that have issues with IPs, yes. There are quite a few others that don't (original content from A to Z). Where is the problem? I don't get people trying to port other IPs when they could create their own instead (startreck, halo, star wars etc are good examples). Same goes for using someone else's work, be it content, texture or IP... to be perfectly honest, there are more and more people selling/making content for a buck these days...so it already happens, but currently is in the shadow part of things... I can assure you if the EULA for O2 would be differently, things like this would be right in the open? Is it bad? Doubt it, the market always self-regulates itself... You did read me wrong yes. When you make a purchase, there is a contract of sorts in the mix. I said that you should expect a bug-free product that is supported for as long as possible (it is also only in the interest of the seller as well). What you shouldn't expect is new content and features to that product being delivered. Current example being RHS in which we add more content and features which each new release, besides fixing bugs and polishing stuff further. In short, if you would be buying a humvee pack, you should expect it to be supported and updated if needed in relation to BIS updates, but shouldn't expect to transform itself into a NATO land vehicle pack for whatever reasons, nor would allow you to ask for more humvees than the ones that have been initially provided (unless you would be paying a subscription fee - which in turn makes a product into a service). 1. the market self-regulates. also, just so you know, these 14yo dipshits (and older of course) are already doing it...besides, most addon makers around here do know how to protect their own IP rights... 2. you are confusing things. both greenlight and kickstarted are getting money for things that don't really exists. So in a way, you are paying (pre-ordering) for an idea, not for a product. A lot of people also pre-order games, which, i personally don't do, besides BI games and recently escape from tarkov.
-
anything bellow around 400 polys is not worth it anymore from a drawcall pov... then why are you doing it if time is limited?
-
tbsquid, cgtrader etc are usually markets for a different products - mainly offline renders (vfx, archviz etc) - (rarely game assets mainly because these assets are made bespoke for each individual game, so there is little market there) that doesn't actually work.
-
nope, you would be buying a product, you wouldn't be buying a bespoke service. note really no you would be entitled to ask for that mod to be supported, depending on the agreement for the product. same goes for bug fixes and what not again, you wouldn't be entitled to more content via updates, because you haven't paid for that...
-
having a look over that model, that texture is the last of your concerns...
-
well most don't consider that modding = hobby. It can also turn into a job. But if it does: 1. it's not a hobby anymore (as you said) 2. there better be some sort of real framework for it While there are quite a few addon makers in this thread, i am pretty sure the average user voted no - why would one spend real money on something he got used to receiving free so far (might also add that without actually knowing the real value of it...) i for one would be pretty happy to earn a buck out of it. As a 3d artist, i already have, in relation to what i do as modding, but outside the modding community in itself.

not sure where you sent that message, but if you'd be more specific to what you want, you might get a better reply... -

RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)
PuFu replied to soul_assassin's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Steam uses delta patching and a pretty decent compression. i only downloaded around 500mbs or so for this update. I am pretty sure one could download files from workshop directly from server using steamcmd, see above thread i linked.... if you own a server and you are uploading files via ftp from your own pc you are doing it wrong btw.... updated files thanks to KIIrt:- 16577 replies

tbh, although i do follow the development of this, i still have no idea how the overall gameplay will be like...for now it seems that there are small areas that you need to survive and actually escape from... it also seems that its main objective turned into a scavage hunt

yes, some players hate life communities, but the very very few hate it because of the gameplay. i for one don't really care how other people spend their free time or what they play during that free time.. i do however care if because of the way they spend their free time that affects my own free time (as in needing to come down hard because of IP infringements). Most of the ones that needs a proper spanking are part of this life community at large... To be honest, i think you are wrong, and BI does pay quite a bit of attention to both what players play, and what are the mods they are using... Yes, they will not cater directly towards the life community needs via creating content for it, but they neither do it for milsim communities in this case either... Arma games are in fact a big sandbox. it is upt to you and you alone to create these aditional lego pieces which you can play with as per your own desire... btw, i wasn't picking on your directly, tbh you are the exception from the overall rule when it comes to how things are done. As i said it before, no matter if our principles differ, i do respect the fact that you are doing your own addon by yourselves to fit your particular play-style and bussines needs.
