Dumb Question about KeyPoints (giving Names)
phaeden replied to commander1985's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : TERRAIN - (Visitor)
I share your pain. Here is one of my named places: class palmseaf { name = "Palms EAF"; position[] = {3349, 10375}; type = "NameCityCapital"; // speech = "Palms E A F"; <-- I can't get this to work yet radiusA = 50; radiusB = 50; angle = 0.000000; }; The only thing that immediately comes to mind is that you might be "double" calling the class Names { }; if your "DynamicWar.hpp" also has that class information. Verify that is correct and let me know if it is giving you a specific error. On a side note, has anyone figure out the "Speech" function yet? -
Commander, thanks, I will look at it and see if that does the trick. Kju is usually spot on.

If someone has this working, will you please post the config? I can't get it t work for me no matter what I have tried. Thanks.

Is there any progress on this? I am trying to get it to work on one of my islands and have not met with success yet.

It does. -
Gunny, those old screens look great. I hope you are able to get that area built and out to the community. That is a very large area - it makes my head just thinking about all the objects. :)

I am working on one that is ~25 km to a side.

Helicopter Crew Chief Camera (Idea only)
phaeden posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Greetings, I had an idea to create/have someone create an addon which would allow a helo pilot to turn on a "crew chief camera" system when slower than 10 knots. This camera would add 2 to 4 camera boxes on the top or bottom of the screen which would display the images below and slightly to the sides of the helo. In this way, the pilot would have a better idea of what was directly below the aircraft so that the pilot could make safer, quicker landings knowing that the area was free of obstacles. Any takers? -

What if it was something like the GPS tool? Instead of Ctrl-M, the player hit Ctrl-C (or something) that would engage a window like the GPS that would be zoomed in to a high degree so that the player could see the immediate around below and around the helo. It would be enough to see vegetation. Perhaps, a simple "warning light" or directional warning light that would come on somewhere on the pilot's screen that could indicate the presence of an obstacle. I know that good pilots can scan area on approach but I have played many times on MP where the pilots, although doing there best, hit objects in the LZ. -
Thanks Planck.

I think an interest aspect which would be more difficult to code but might present some interesting options would be to include a requirement for someone on the ground to "connect" and "disconnect" the load to and from the helo. This could be something as simple as requiring a player or AI to be on the ground within x meters of the helo. I also think it important to carry arty piece and crates of ammo. Lastly, I wanted to say keep up the great work. I know it can be very draining and demanding. We look forward to this addon! -

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Mod 2
phaeden replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Brainbug, that Latin phrase is and has always been intend as an irony. I served in the Marines '94-'00 and know all to well the real cost of defending one's country, regardless of the reasons. I specifically selected that quote as the ACE slogan to show the futility or war (which is why it should always and only be played out in video games) and the ignorance of the common man. If it bothers you, I encourage you to write to your elected representatives and become politically active because the power structure has and always will send young men to die for their causes. We can only change that historic fact if we take power to do so. -

I just wanted to say to the ACE2 DevTeam, "Hang in there." I appreciate all that you are doing behind closed doors. I look forward to playing ACE 2 when it is released regardless of if that is in a day or in a year. I know that there are no other games like ArmA2 on the horizon for a long time so I will be able to play the ACE2 version for many years to come. I encourage you to ignore the petty comments, focus on development and let the pieces fall where they may. Thanks for your dedication, tenacity and tolerance. Semper Fi, Phaeden -
Mortars (expl. in general), too destructive?
phaeden replied to CarlGustaffa's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Greetings, It has been experience that damage done in video games is far less than what happens in real life. Usually the in-game visual effects are more pronounced but the actually physical damage is not as severe as real life. For example, a real 155mm HE, Quick shell deals out a tremendous amount of power, especially to infantry and lightly armored vehicles. The hard part with putting those explosive effects into games is trying to find the right balance between realism and gameplay. So, for my two cents, I would say things are more or less fine in ARMA2 and until game designers can figure out a way to account for individual shrapnel, concussive and psychological effects on a vast amount of data (i.e. a veteran infantry prone in a ditch is less likely to take "damage" than a new recruit who is not using the terrain to his best advantage even though he is in the ditch as well). -
I just wanted to wish all Marines out there a Happy 233rd Birthday! Semper Fi! ---------- UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY MESSAGE - 10 NOVEMBER 2008 1. Â During the summer of 1982, in the wake of a presidential directive, Marines went ashore at Beirut, Lebanon. Fifteen months later, on 23 October 1983, extremists struck the first major blow against American forces - starting this long war on terrorism. Â On that Sunday morning, a suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden truck into the headquarters of battalion landing team 1/8, destroying the building and killing 241 Marines and Corpsmen. 2. Â Extremists have attacked our nation, at home and abroad, numerous times since that fateful day in Beirut. Their aim has always been the same - to kill as many innocent Americans as possible. The attacks of 11 September 2001 changed our nation forever, and our president has resolved that this nation will not stand idle while murderous terrorists plot their next strike. Marines will continue to take the fight to the enemy - hitting them on their own turf, crushing them when they show themselves, and finding them where they hide. Â 3. Â Only a few Americans choose the dangerous, but necessary, work of fighting our nation's enemies. Â When our chapter of history is written, it will be a saga of a selfless generation of Marines who were willing to stand up and fight for our nation; to defend those who could not defend themselves; to thrive on the hardship and sacrifice expected of an elite warrior class; to march to the sound of the guns; and to ably shoulder the legacy of those Marines who have gone before. 4. Â On our 233rd birthday, first remember those who have served and those "angels" who have fallen - our reputation was built on their sacrifices. Â Remember our families; they are the unsung heroes whose support and dedication allow us to answer our nation's call. Finally, to all Marines and sailors, know that I am proud of you and what you do. Â Your successes on the battlefield have only added to our illustrious history. Â General Victor H. "Brute" Krulak said it best when he wrote, "... The United States does not need a Marine Corps ... The United States wants a Marine Corps." Â Your actions, in Iraq and Afghanistan, and across the globe, are at the core of why America loves her Marines. 5. Â Happy birthday, Marines and Semper Fidelis! James t. Conway, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps The Marines' Hymn From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli, We fight our country's battles in the air, on land and sea. First to fight for right and freedom, and to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title of United States Marine. Our Flag's unfurled to every breeze from dawn to setting sun. We have fought in every clime and place, where we could take a gun. In the snow of far off northern lands and in sunny tropic scenes, You will find us always on the job, the United States Marines. Here's health to you and to our Corps, which we are proud to serve. In many a strife we've fought for life and never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy ever look on heaven's scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines. The Marines' Prayer Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose in deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold. If I am inclined to doubt; steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer. Amen.
