  1. Ha ha! Of course! Who can forget when Hamster was in the bull run, and they ran a video showing a guy who pulled him into the path of a bulls horn..... Clarkson's response? A very cold: 'If you're that man, call up...... Because I want to give you some money.' Classic!
  2. Here's hoping all is well with Richard, and that Top Gear continues to be the best motoring show on the planet!

    Schumacher announces retirement!

I remember M. Schumacher's 'performance' in 1994 at my home town of Adelaide, quite vividly. The collision, that took Damon Hill, out of the race and all contention for the championship, still pisses me off.

    The King is dead

Not a good week at all. I'd met him, both in the pits, and off the track. A true blue, 'Peter Perfect', with a heart of gold. My family directly benefited from his foundation, in 2004, when my mother was fighting off Leukemia. Â His cars, in support of the leukemia foundation, provided the transport for mums 'good' days, when she was well enough to come home. Every inch of support, made all the difference, in aiding her recovery, and despite all the thrills he created on the track, it's his generosity, that, I'll never forget. Another sad loss.

    Steve "Croc Hunter" Irwin

Balschoiw, it's merely a figure of speech. The guy died, doing what he had passion for. Documenting dangerous animals, and raising awareness in the interests of conservation. It was his passion, and yes, he flirted with danger everytime he went out and did it, just as do every time you accept to be sent on a peacekeeping mission. Someone's got to do it, and there's only a select few, who are willing to put their hand up, and take on the job. He didn't have to bring cameras, out along for the ride, but he did, and did it with style and a charisma that's unrivalled. Would the world have been better off without a 'Steve Irwin', hamming it up? I'd say a wide range of demographics, would have had a lesser opinon on conservation, without him.

http://www.iht.com/article....led.php Not suprising that Steve was being filmed at the time, but far out... His final move, in pulling the fatal barb from his chest, after suggestions it would have killed him instantly, is no mean feat by any standards. He died a true mans death...I only hope the suffering was kept to a minimum.

    The Middle East part 2

Who said anything about crying a river? You should put it in context, billybob. These problems keep going around and around and around. Does blowing up infrastructure, really help in getting there soldiers back, or do anything to bring the region to peace? If the citizens of that part of the world are 'happy' living in a warzone and all it's associated problems, on their doorstep, well, good for them... Must be quite an exciting lifestyle! I really couldn't give a toss what happens, I live half a world away, I don't personally know anyone living there, I don't intend on ever visiting that part of the world, and it beats reading about grannys cat stuck up a tree, or some other hollow news item. Then again, we've seen this in the headlines time and time again, and it really is a case of 'FFS, not again.... when will they learn?'... I don't think they're even willing to learn, and they're not, then why should I care? The underlying problems are never going to be solved in my lifetime, at least not with the current attitudes on both sides... But when the streets of the middle east are filled with more blood, i'm not going to act suprised, because I stopped caring a long long time ago. If they can't see that something has to change, then hey, at least it will give my kids and my kids, kids, something to read, and get sick of seeing in the headlines...

    The Middle East part 2

mp_phonix, I'm glad someone asked that question, because it was one I was intent on asking myself... From my point of view, there is one word to sum it up. Disappointing. Israel's actions are totally irrational. The country should be ashamed of it's leaders for failing to find another way of dealing with the situation. Three soldiers kidnapped.... Three measly soldiers and Israel has its finger on the trigger, blasting away at anyone it thinks is involved. It's irresponsible, because it's simply plunging the region into further uncertainty. I often ask myself, after incidents like this, whether or not Israel actually wants to get along with its neighbours, or would it rather obliterate them, and just looking for an excuse to do so. These actions are short-sighted, and deeply concerning.... Israel should be speaking softly.... we already know it carries a big stick, but, it can't speak softly at all. What justifies these actions, and is it worth it? Albert, you almost took the words right out of my mouth, and I totally agree. It’s time for Israel to grow up, and stop throwing its weight around like a schoolyard bully… Eventually, you’ll realise it doesn’t win you friends; it only creates more enemies, and isolates you as a nation, more... Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

<span id='ME'><center>ozanzac starts playing Yello's 'Oh Yeah!'</center></span> Ha ha ha, just got home from a big morning of celebrations! Hiddnik should have chosen Schwarzer for goal, and Poll, certainly did not have his best game as a ref... Three yellow cards for one player, what a joke.... what's the point of the earpieces if the fourth official isn't scrutenising the game enough to pick up, such a blatant mistake! However, a Superb result for a country, of 20 million, where two other games, dominate the winter sporting scene. Italy..... your next! Time for some sleep.

    Independence Lost?

It's scary..... East timor's independence really has seemed to have decended into anarchy. Had it been released 'back in the day', when it was hot off the drawing board, today it would have been: 'Wow, that's so cool, the storyline of a game actually came true!'. But, from the images we're getting from the media, East Timor, really is, in a whole lot of strife for the time being.

    Car running on water?

Not neccessarily water powered, but worthy of mention for this thread. CNG Powered Honda Civic The idea of using the already existing gas infrastructure, in your home, for filling up a car, is ingenious! It makes me wonder, why it took so long for an automobile manufacturer to offer a Compressed Natural Gas powered car, given that I've known of CNG busses trundling around in the local public transport system for years. Sure, the slow fill up time might be bit of a let down and the  lack of properly equipped refuelling stations limiting it's range to 320 km, but heck, for daily short commuter trips. It's perfect! If only it were on sale here!

RAN Super Seasprite facing the axe.

Yes, very true. These helicopters were ordered to co-exist with a class of naval ship that never eventuated. The project, should have been axed there and then, but it was thought a role for the Super Sea Sprite, still existed, for use aboard the ANZAC class frigates, for small deck, ASW operations. Had the program delivered, on time, and on budget, there would have been few complaints, but, the RAN is in a bit of a struggle regarding rotary aircraft. Our Navy's Sea Kings and Huey's should have sent to the reserves or retired years ago, the Sea Hawk's, are better utilised in other roles, whilist Kiowas and Squirrels are used for training purposes. Considering how small the RAN fleet air arm is, it's mind boggling why so many different types are in operation, so killing off another type before it enters service, might be better in the long run, if the government doesn't bite the bullet and attempt to standardise the fleet.
  17. The rumour amongst the media is that the federal government will pursue re-imbursement from contractors involved in the program via legal means, for failing to produce the helicopters to specification. Meanwhile, New Zealand's fleet of five will continue to fly, impervious to the avionics glitches plaguing the Australian version.

    ANZAC day

Indeed, a very humbling day for all Australians. Another riderless horse was added to the parades this year, as the last of the surviving personnel from the Great War has passed away. Their sacrifice shall never be forgotten. The History Channel just played the very good movie-documentary, 'Gallipoli'. It's remarkable the amount of respect that the Anzac’s and 'Johnny Turk', built up for each other, and shows the true, ANZAC spirit.

    Walmart's reign could be diminished

I don't see what all the fuss is about. The fact is, Wal-Mart is as much of a customer to the gaming industry as anyone else. If your business is selling goods, then obviously, you have the right to comment on what items you offer for sale. When you're customer is one of the biggest retailers, only a foolish publisher wouldn't take note. Product customization to suit a clients needs is not new in any industry, so why should the gaming industry be any different? Honestly, does anyone find it surprising that Wal-Mart has a big influence on publishers? If publishers are killing off games because Wal-Mart won't sell it, it goes to show how spineless they can be, and how little faith they actually have in the title. If gamers think they are losing out on new titles because Wal-Mart won't sell it, it's not Wal-Mart’s fault. It's the publishers for being too conservative and not having confidence in their product to take off under it’s own merits, and if they can't do that, then the chances are, it would have been a shitty, forgettable, run of the mill, game anyway.

    Ask a mod

This question is directed more so at Paul and BIS, rather than the moderators. Would it be possible for a thread regarding pre-release armed assault news and updates e.t.c., that only BIS team members and moderators can post news in? I still have a keen interest on hearing the latest news on upcoming developments from BIS, but nowadays, I only occasionally get the chance to pop in to have a good read of the forums and 'Flash News'. Whilst yes, the threads regarding armed assault are helpful, many of 'ye olde fans', no longer have the time, nor the patience, to read 70 or so pages of speculation and other banter; to unearth the truly newsworthy items within, and would make being on the ball, allot easier. It would also be great for archival purposes, IE, using the forum to save articles that are likely to be deleted by webmasters once past their use by date. Cheers boys, and keep up the good work.
  21. Congratulations on creating such a wonderful machine Magnus. I hope it really takes off for you, and that you end up reaping the rewards. I have one question: What is the bare minimum internet connection required for smooth control and screen refresh rate?

    Software Needed

Edge is right, in that a professional mapping program would better suit your needs, however, to create an electronic map, alot of data is required. X and Y co-ordinates a bare minimum, with Z for 3D rendering..... Basically it would mean undertaking a full survey of the area. Another problem, would be finding software that can do all the wizz bang real-time updating that you say you'd like.... Without fancy tracking devices and what not, what you're asking for would be a data input nightmare!

For the sake of the members of this forum, what was the groups reasoning for wishing to disallow discussion of their work on this particular forum? I don't want to act offended, but, such a request is a very powerful statement against this forum, and those that choose to discuss here.

    The Middle East part 2

As much of a shame that it is, that the middle east can't find peace within itself and it's neighbours, I beleive it's only a matter of time until the situation of the middle east comes to that of africa, where no-one in the western world will genuinly give a rats about just how peaceful it is in the middle east. The one thing that seperates the middle easts relevance from the african continents general irrellevance to western society, is that the middle east has a commodity that we've grown dependant on, in order to function.... Oil. Africa, on the other hand, has few resources that westerners are interested in. The resources that do spark interest, namely gold and diamonds, are considered as luxury items, and thus, our dependance on Africa to produce those items is minimal. Hence the desire to create 'pro western regimes' for stable gold and diamond supplies, in Africa, is in no way, as great as it for our desire to have stable regimes in the middle east for stable oil supplies. The people of the middle east are not stupid, and they know that their resources are fuelling the prosperous west while they linger with governments who effectivly pimp those resources away, and do very little to advance them. It's a vicious cycle, because while we keep propping these governments up, with the view that they will continue to let us exploit their resources, tensions between the government and the people they are supposed to govern for, are almost always, just a couple of notches away from full blown revolt. Hardly stable, nor 'democratic', one could argue. I beleive the intentions of the US behind the invasion of Iraq, and the west's close ties with the Saudi's and other arab nations, is solely to secure a plentiful supply of oil. Bush re-enforced this with his state of the union address, indicating that america has to become less dependant on oil, because the majority comes from unstable political climates. Who knows what he incites when he says this. More regime changes, & more war is hardly stabilising at all. The only thing that will see a dramatic change, IS a relaxing of our dependence on oil. To be honest.... I don't think the west will ever see true peace with the middle east. But when their oil runs dry, I doubt anyone in the west will care what goes on in a barren foreign land.
