For anyone not lucky enough to have access to broadband.....on 56 k......the download should take somewhere around 40 hours! I'm about to waste a good semester of internet access, (before the uni semester even starts!) to download this! Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â So this better be good!

What was the projected operational lifespan of Hubble? Has the telescope yet outlived it?

Never has forking out $500+ (au) for any portable music and/or data device ever entered my mind. My mobile phone picks up FM radio, stores MP3's; And for large data transfers, I've a 2.5", 4 gig, external USB hard drive, with the hard drive salvaged from a broken laptop from dads work, and the external case costing $10 from the market. Doin' it on the cheap, baby!

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and freinds of Jowo, and to the Invasion 44 team. Rest in peace.

The increase in sensitivity helped 10 fold... It felt just like the default sensitivity of OFP! Good job... I'll definantly point some freinds towards it.
-
Impressive. I agree that speeding up the mouse sensitivity will make it awesome!

One of the dead was an Australian serving with the RAF, Flight Lieutenant Paul Pardoel. I've heard that it was not an RPG that shot the plane down, but a guided anti-armour missile. The aircraft was reportedly on approach to land at Balad, 60km north of Baghdad.

Stands for BenchMark Sims. The BMS patches are kind of a continuation of the work that the F4UT (Falcon 4 United Team) started with their F4SP (SuperPak) patches. Unfortunatly, the F4UT group were forced to disband, and pretty much abandon all further work as a team, due to an agreement with the proprietry owner of the 'Falcon' brand. The team had a deadline to get their work out to the public before work was stopped, and this is why SP4's release was a debacle....All hotfixes to SP4 (i.e. SP 4.2) have been undertaken as privatly, non F4UT releases. This is where the BMS team picks up....where the F4UT was forced to drop off. Anyway, here's an overview of what the BMS patches are designed to do.

Been playing it on and off for years. The original, and even the last official v1.08 patch .exe's are extremly buggy, but with the latest SuperPak (4.2), BMS Data Update. The game is transformed to show its true potential.....which is why I still consider it the best flight sim out there. There are guides out there to help get the game, and the 3rd party add-ons working in unison. Be sure to read this comprehensive guide before patching, playing, and asking questions. But my last install 'dance' went something like this: 1) Original Falcon4.0 CD 2) Microprose 1.08US Patch, Available here: http://www.atari.com/us/support/faq/falcon40downloads_pc.asp 3) SP4, Available here: http://www.fileplanet.com/files/80000/88841.shtml 4) SP4.2 Patch, Available here: http://simmersworld.com/files/patches72/SP4.2_Hi-res.zip 5) BMS 2.0 Available here: http://www.gamershell.com/download_6102.shtml 6) Sp4.2 BMS data patch, Available here:Â http://homepage.hispeed.ch/voodoo/Sp4.2_BMS_DATA_v1.0.zip 7) Other stuff....Cockpits, skins e.t.c. Happy patching, and happy falconeering. Edit: Links fixed

From an online translator, the plane was 'travelling in darkness'...So, we can assume the lighting conditions were poor, and that the pilots had very little chance of spotting the ditch before it was too late...That would have been one hell of a suprise!

For long range, high density routes, a larger aircraft than the 747 will be a blessing. The carrier will need less aircraft, thus less maintainance, and less fuel expenses, to shift more people/tonnage, in less trips. To be honest, I can't wait to see this monster in the sky.....I still get impressed whenever I see a 747 take off, or land.

How old is too old to have a child? Anything above 40 (for a female) sounds like leaving it too late, but over 60!?! That's ridiculous in my opinion.

ROFLMAO! I bet they had quite the brainstorming 'session' to come up with that idea.

I’m agnostic. I abandoned attending church in favour of playing sport at a young age, and somewhere along the lines, worked out that religion, in the grand scheme of things, has brought about and spawned more trouble than its worth. Also, living in the laid back society of Australia has also influenced my thoughts on religion. I can't see the point of devoting myself to a religion if one has an established moral base to thrive off. Would devoting myself to religion be for better or worse? As long as I have an objective view on life, I really couldn't care less, and thus, prefer my status quo...at least until religion can prove itself to be meaningful. (Right here, right now, and too me.)

I would like to add that comparing the situation of Iwo Jima to the situatiions that surround todays modern, 'superior' warfare as extremely pointless: thus stupid on the writers behalf. Simply, it is not possible to commentate on, and thus, compare the combat between WWII and the standards of todays warfare. The article is negligent..........I mean c'mon, Why not compare the battle of Trafalga... or something as far off as the crusades, in such a way that the media of today would. We could all commentate on anything in 'hindsight'....but something as far back as WWII....IMO, it's irresponsible to even try. (unless, of course, you were there) The situation was different: it was a world war, and the most bloody and desperate one at that. It was not 'ooo la dee dah': let's invade a country and hope our superior technology and righteounesss will suceed, enabling a minimal loss of life. The people at home knew that their lads woud die...It was fact, and no-one tried to pretty it up by 'todays standards' either. It was blood and guts, where the sacrifice of life, even if it was worth no more that a foot of ground, was considered, 'worthwhile'. The modern media has tried to replace the 'blood and guts' reality of warfare, with a 6 o'clock, watered down variant: where the whole family can sit down & have have a bit of a gander. War is ugly...always has, and always will be. To compare today vs yesterday is probaly worth thought, but worth an article?...Not in my opinion . Hopefully, we all have the capacity to think, and thus dream... or at least be realist and know that times have changed dramatically.

Asia vs Rest of World Eddy announced it raised something in the order of 14 million dollars from Australian donations alone. (It was beamed into 120 countries) Then there's the 20 odd million raised from the telethon/ extravaganza appeal the other night.

Mechanical failure would be my bet.

Reminds me of beta vs VHS video tapes. Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will probably come out onto the market for a while (if a compromise or takever bid isn't made). The less successful format will die, leaving the other with market dominance, and a few unlucky consumers with a sour taste for technological change.

$1.8 billion. At first I thought it was an awful lot of money, but then I did the math and it comes down to approx $90au from every Australian man, woman and child. And I'm sure many others will agree...if it helps ease the burden of those less fortunate as a result of this disaster, it's money well spent. The donation will hopefully, also ease any tensions leftover from our forces intervention over in East Timor... Politicians are always at play.

I've seen plenty of OFP: CWC 'best sellers' editions going around in stores around southern & eastern Australia. It's been about a year since I last saw any Red Hammer, or Resistance expansions. The last GOTY I saw, I snapped up at an EB Games sale about six months ago! Can I ask, why was the Cold War Crisis software touted as the 'best sellers' edition, and not the Game of the Year Edition pack? People who’ve bought or received OFP in its ‘best sellers’ guise, and are new to OFP won't be experiencing the game to its maximum potential, and seeing as the expansions are thin on the ground, don’t have much of a chance to either.

There is regional seismic monitioring, and the technology exists in such a way that an earthquake 150-300 km's away could be detected around 20-30 seconds before the shockwave hits, and the warning before a Tsunami hit would be much more so. However, these systems are hardly set up to be tsunami early warning systems, despite their potential to be; which is disappointing that it will take a disaster like this in order get something done. As a part of my GIS studies earlier this year, I've an animation of the tsunami the great 1833 Sumatra Earthquake created, which appears to have an epicentre similar to the recent quake. Animation (2 meg)

Damn...I was hoping for a video where the two tanks faceoff. Once and for all to end the pissing match! (Probably explains the before the thread title, indicating it was a question) Oh well....let's all be grateful they never did have to face off against one another....unless of course, someone can provide images of a destroyed T-80/M1A1; Which can be certified as destroyed by an opposing T-80/M1A1.... Has there ever been a conflict for where both tanks could have come into hostile contact with one another? Edit: Acknowledging my idiocy, and poor grammar.
