Yes, that could be true for the default profile. But if I launch the game and create a new user profile for "JoeSmoe". Exit the game and delete the "C:\users\<username>\documents\arma2\JoeSmoe". Re-start the game and it re-creates "JoeSmoe" as a profile.Again, I'm not talking about the Admin profile. I'm talking about created user profiles. I can't find where it's storing the settings for users (even after the user folders are completely deleted).
I think you are confused because there is a 2nd element here, stored in the registry..
When you first start the game (on a virgin OS), a user profile named after your windows user name is created in Documents\Arma 2\ This could be 'Administrator' or whatever your user name is.
The game also sets a registy key that says "this is the user NAME that I want to use by default when starting the game". It is stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2
Now you are in the game and you create a new profile called 'Captain Beefheart' This profile, since it isn't based on the windows user name goes into Documents\Arma 2 Other Profiles\ and the registry is also updated to point to 'Captain Beefheart' When the game starts up the next time, it will see the registry key and then look for that profile in Other Profiles.
Now if you delete the profile in either case, the game will still read the reg key and if that profile doesn't exist, it gets recreated with the default values. So even if you deleted the profile 'Captain Beefheart', you might be misled into thinking it was stored somewhere else the next time you started the game and saw that it was still there. (it wasn't, the game recreated it) If you look closely, the settings will all be at default though.
This 'last user/default user' registry key stays even after you uninstall the game. It doesn't hurt anything though, and you are indeed getting a 'reset' profile if you delete your existing one. Also, if you delete the reg key, the game will behave the same as it did the first time you ever installed it, it will use the windows username and make a profile based on that name.

Is it possible to use junction to make a 1.8g ramdrive work. If I had enough ram i think i could junction the whole addons folder and delete the original but I dont know how to make it work with anything smaller. With the junction named "junction to addons" the game wont read it. But I cant rename it to "addons" because that makes 2 folders of the same name.I dont see a difference doing a junction/symlink and just calling the drive in the mod command.
if my ramdrive is F:\ and it has the @ramdrive modfolder on it, when I launch the game I do arma2.exe -mod=f:\@ramdrive ...seems to work fine!
Did anyone experience any differences of direct drive letter vs symlink/junction?

Thanks for your reply. I just have a quick question, though: What do you mean by "Go to the registry"? What registry? :confused:Okay:
Open start menu, click Run... and type REGEDIT
Press OK
Then go to that location in the registry. Here is a website that helps explain what it does and how to use it.
http://www.windowsmaven.com/How_to_use_regeditl.htm
Alternately, instead of doing this, you could put ArmA2 back to where it was when you first installed it to avoid the error. If you have more questions, PM me.

Hi december - what are your system specs ? I also tried a flyby of Chernogorsk (with a few groups from either side battling it out) and definately did not see an increase.cjph
Note that there is some kind of shore/water issue at the moment, will be fixed in next patch. Causes FPS to drop. Found it mentioned somewhere in the beta forum section.
-
As I've mentioned above - I tried on a clean windows machine without any networking software and without a router...Which is why i suggested hauling your box to a friends house sometime so you can rule out your modem/internet.
Do you have an extra network card? or another computer you can try on?
I'm out of ideas here.

I noticed now that ARMA2 will freeze (59210) when in windowed mode and opening lets say a .txt document PLUS another document like PDF (murrays editing). Basically everytime i do that it freezes. However in fullscreen mode that never happens (alt+tab). Clueless to why. Maybe a "PC" thing?
EDIT: Sorry CG - not really relating to your problem. :o
EDIT2: Oh btw mate! When the mouse disapears (happens to me too sometimes) i just do a FLUSH and it comes back. :) Remembered it was something i was gonna write here related to you hehe. Even though sometimes it DOES freeze totally and flush does not work.
Are you guys using the -noPause switch? If you are, try without it, if you arent, try with it? Basically the game keeps rendering with this switch, so if you left it on a second monitor while you were browsing the web, it would still show movement. Sorry if this doesn't help, just an idea.
My workflow is similar to you guys, I work in the editor/game in windowed with my text editor/arma2.rpt tail log on the other screen. The only real issues I have are the mouse buttons fire off occasionally or get stuck when tabbing back in, i just click to fix them again.

use existing thread.No. :D
I don't think a big thank you does any good buried in a huge thread like that. It has 130 pages! (that the dev's have stated they don't read huge threads)
IMO each patch should get its own thread, it wont be such a big deal and it keeps people talking straight on what version they are reporting about. That is unless they start being released with such frequency that it causes more trouble than its worth.
If a mod disagrees, I'm cool with that. This thread still serves its purpose to thank the devs.

When I try to install it, it says that ArmA 2 is either not installed on my computer, or that the installation is corrupted. Both of which is bullshit, of course.Solution below:
First, this isn't a troubleshooting forum. You'd get that error even if you were installing a stock retail patch, they use the same installer base.
Second, to fix your issue, you need to go to the registry and find:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2
or if you have 64bit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2
In there is a MAIN string. It needs to be set to your arma2 directory (not the beta directory, just main arma2) For example, mine is set to
d:\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2
If you continue to have issues, try searching the troubleshooting forum for the message you got. If you have a previous beta patch installed, make sure you remove it! (just delete the beta folder)
Cheers

Doppler effects work fine, they are a part of the sound engine. Put choppers in the air and fly around them with camera.sqs or a spectator script.. you will hear it pitch up or down. Or use my sound test program.
Saying 'this happened in arma1 fine' isn't helpful because the audio engine is totally rewritten in ArmA2. OFP/Res/ArmA1 all used the same base engine, ArmA1 only added openal extensions. ArmA2 uses a new standardized XAudio2 engine in DirectX. No more eax, no more hardware acceleration. If you set these settings in the cfg file, they are ignored.. someone just forgot to remove them.
There is no hardware acceleration, this is not used anymore in modern games. It is only a bullet point on creative cards to help sell them.
My positional audio seems to work great, aside from the annoying 'drop outs' as in, when a chopper fires FFAR's, all the other sounds stop for the SHOO SHOO bang bang noise, even the rotor noise stops. I think this is a max number of channels played at one time issue though.
If you make some example videos or screenshots, and post them to the community issue tracker, I'm sure the devs will take a look at it and be able to fix it.

Running last beta (ARMA2_Build_59323.zip).P.S.: I am able to join games started on my own dedicated server via router IP (connecting to 192.168.0.10) and local host (connecting 127.0.0.1). My friends can connect to me when I am a host or when I run dedicated server and even play with me only IF the mission starts when they are already connected; JIP doesn't work (they lose connection or stcuk at receiving data).
P.P.S.: Going to sleep...
If you have a friend that lives nearby, maybe you can lug your computer over to his house to see if it is your router or internet. You've basically ruled everything else out! :(

Download the map CRCTI http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5862 it has a utes version included that you will have fun with against the AI. You can adjust the intensity/difficulty by disabling AI slots before starting the game.
Mission making and scripting takes a lot a patience when you first get started. Best way is to read some tutorials or take apart maps you like. BIS putting in a module won't help anything, its up to the mission designer to do what he wants. If there was a module, it would probably have limitations and people would avoid it anyways. Here are some getting started links:
http://www.ofpec.com/ed_depot/index.php?ac...d=390&game=ArmA
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=838&a=dl2 (pretty old, only covers SQS)
http://www.ofpec.com/ed_depot/index.php?ac...=details&id=649
http://www.ofpec.com/ed_depot/index.php?ac...d=476&game=ArmA debug console for checking scripts and variables.
And in your game's startup commands add -showScriptErrors
And I use this app, open on my second monitor, to monitor the arma2.rpt file for errors when I'm working on something or debugging
http://www.makelogic.com/tail/TailHome.htm
Get Notepad++ for writing and editing code. Get and install ArmA Script , it highlights and formats the differnt types of text automatically. Really helps to see commands in one color and arguments in another.
Also get Win Merge, for comparing original scripts to ones you or some else modified. So you can see the changes.
Having those tools installed really helps to get your work organized and easier to read.
Start slow and try something simple.

We are at 1.15 now, are you using the latest beta? ftp://downloads.bistudio.com/arma2.com/update/beta/ARMA2_Build_59323.zip
Do you have any other network providing devices plugged into your machine such as a cell phone (seen that screw up arma before), anything that provides another network interface can cause problems.
what does IPCONFIG /ALL show if you run it in a CMD prompt? (put it in spoiler tags)
No firewalls/antivirus, not even the built in XP one?
You may try procmon, to monitor the game when it gets stuck... it may give a clue. Limit it to proccess name 'arma2.exe'. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
And as an experiment, can you unplug or disable your network card(s) and try to host a game on LAN? It should allow you to, because it will use the loopback interface. (it is hidden, you can't disable it)
-
Lol, this bug has existed since operation flashpoint. Pallets too, shoot them and watch them fly upwards and warp back down and start over. :D
-
Other ~5% - game stucks at lobby - I can't select my slot - all slots are disabled.
Disabled? Or do you not see any slots at all. You can't pick a side or slot and when you press OK does the user list go grey and it says Recieving Mission 0 of 0bytes or something similar? If so, this is a router issue. Make sure your computer is not in the 'DMZ' and your router is configured correctly, allowing all outgoing traffic. Also if uPNP is turned on in your router, try turning it off.

Haw, I use world=empty so I see an action-packed infinite ocean. :D But seriously, how much time do you spend at the main menu?
You could extract the intro mission from the demo and incorporate it into an addon I bet. For each world, there is a 'scenes' directory iirc, and it contains a little intro mission that isn't really a mission but a bunch of cameras moving about. Its a mission that plays itself basically. Depbo utes and see what I mean.

Petition: Give me free stuff that I feel entitled to, even tho I have not done or paid anything to actually be worthy of said free stuff... .....I own 3 copies of Operation Flashpoint, 3 of Arma, and 2 of Arma2..
<-- see the join date?
Did all the 'not in my backyard' guys come to this thread to be a jackass?
Please close this topic, as it serves no purpose. It was poorly thought through before posting it. I made some feature requests in the CIT that would overcome the core game limitations that I originally requested this for.

Are these ran by indepedant admins/companies I don't know how servers really operate and all, but in any other PC game I've played like Wolfenstien the admins on there had their hands on alot of addons/mods, why would somebody not want to play with this tweak, are they not apart of this community? This boggles my mind.... No wonder why I still have no motivation to take my squad in PVP! :mad:Madness!
In those games, addons are auto synced.. it would be a lot better that way.
You can vote on this suggestion here: http://dev-heaven.net/issues/show/5520

Kju for some reason I forgot where you posted it but you mentioned your having a beta test for a caching tweak I guess, does what I want and caches tree textures and stuff so its easier on the HDD, where's a link to that? :)
Here is the thread for kju's test addons http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=88899

Pointless poll/petition.First because there is a Blackhawk already in ArmA2, even if its called Seahawk,
Second, the Marines are not using any A/MH-6 Helicopters (even if CM makes you think that). The last time BIS mixed content (in ArmA1) they were bahsed for this and now they are asked to to exactly that...
And for OA we have a dedicated thread you can use.
Thats fine, you can close/delete this then. The real solution to the root problem is auto addon syncronization. Judging from the varied responses here, I wasn't clear about where I was coming from(hosting public servers, new player friendly), nor did I consider that some people think the campaign is the end all be all of the game. (imo the campaign is irrelevant, bis can't be short sighted to think all the players with their game bought it for the campaign)
I don't know who would be dumb enough to bash for more content that could be used in stock multiplayer. I didn't.
-
BUILT IN SYNCHRONIZATION OF ADDONS:
The game server doesn't have to send them.. let us put a hosting url in the server cfg!
Nuff said, I can deal with all the other issues.. This will really improve things. Pubbers can join ANY server without messing with addons and mods.
-
I don't see it flying.1. There are a whole bunch of shaders that aren't ArmA 2 quality, I don't see BIS wanting to dilute the visual fidelity of the released game.
2. This 'free' content directly competes with what is for many ArmA 2 owners a major appeal of Operation Arrowhead.
1. I agree about the quality. I was worried about polycount too. But that's for BIS to decide really. Personally, I don't think people would mind a lower res littlebird, if it was explained that it came from an older game. It wouldn't be used in the campaign, it would just be a bonus.
2. But the concept is the same for OPArrow too, what will you say when OPArrow is missing some things that Arma2 had? (which it may, because it's 'stand alone' and may be limited to one dual layer DVD) The engine will probably be very similar and able to load the older addons from A2...
I have a hunch this time around they are not making it an expansion proper, instead going the OFP Resistance route with its own EXE because of poor sales of Queen's Gambit. (and rightly so) If QG had been an internal project (didn't 505 make it?) and had a separate EXE, people would have to buy it to continue getting updates to the game. I'd prefer that actually, as a server admin, because we basically ignored QG since it wasn't required, therefore we couldn't use its classes in the missions on the pub server. (and not that many people even had it)
So we'll all be OPA anyways since it is going to be what is patched. :D
-
I may be missing the point exactly, but why not just learn how to port addons over, if they can be......or, ask the creator to help out, ......or wait for someone else to pick up the project?I DO however understand that alot of people don't understand all of the BIS tools and things, but why delay the release of Arrowhead?
Just my thoughts, always good to see different ideas pop up.
Look guys, the Arma1 addons will load in Arma2 fine with some fiddling, not hard for someone experienced in loading addons. However, try running a server that caters to the public. On one hand you have the guys that have been there a while and know the game well.. community addons and all (or have played the previous series), and on the other you have new people just getting into Arma that don't know anything about the addon scene.. the latter will not be able to get into your server at all if you have custom addons that add vehicle classes and they are used on the currently running map. The other guys start to get bored with the options over time, but are forced to deal with it because if we do run custom/required stuff, the player count drops dramatically. Even on a popular mod like ACE, the counts went way down when we forced its use, even though ACE was fantastic.
That is the point of this.. to add already existing content with zero work on BIS's part, they just need to add the files into the next patch. It's free content, that can be used by all that own Arma2.. without requiring 'extra' addons. I think they'd just have to patch the crew classname for some of the units.
I would suggest the original island too, but that would require a lot of extra PBO's for the vegetation and buildings.. vehicles are simpler.
-
It's called Operation Arrowhead.Yes but will Operation Arrowhead include all of ArmA2's vehicles and weapons or will some be cut for DVD space reasons?
-
Never mind. The proper solution is an addon synchronization system in Arm2 OpArrow.
To clarify, add some of Arma1's vehicles into an ArmA2 patch at some point. So that there is more content in the game, basically for free (time/money), because the work was already done for ArmA1.
Vehicles suggested: US choppers like the Blackhawk and the Littlebird, Strykers, Vulcan etc.
They don't need to be reskinned, leave that to the community skin packs. If they simply existed in the stock A2 game at some point, you'd have a few more vehicles in the game and have more variety for our public servers that don't currently force community made addons. (without dropping player counts, as those forced addons do)
We really miss the little birds and the blackhawks.. we can only play them on our private servers or new people can't join. :(
Remember in the old days when you would release weapon packs on the website for OFP and Res?
There is no built in automatic addon synchronization. If the game had that, we wouldn't have this problem. :D Yes Yoma's tool is great but it doesn't come with or interface directly with the game. We can't even give a custom message to a person that is kicked off due to not having the required addons. (if we could, at least we could tell them "Hey go to this website and get these addons, or download Yoma's tool")

Set the video memory to normal and then adjust the rest of your graphic options.Might help, might not.
It solved a similar error crash for me.
I've started getting this too. Didn't touch vid memory settings.. only thing different is that I'm running a ramdisk that is taking up 4gb of ram out of a total of 8.
I think the issue is the windows page file.

Beta patch not working :/
in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Posted
This is caused by the startup path being set wrong in the shortcut you are using. Make sure it points to the Arma2 folder NOT the arma2\beta folder. And you should use the shortcut BIS makes for you in the Arma2 folder if you can't fix it.. that one should work fine. If you do insist on using your own shortcut, make sure that the startup path is set correct and that -mod=beta is present.
