Maybe I was a little unclear. I am aware of the fact that publisher and designer have different duties as well as agendas. I simply meant that a publishers job is to ensure that the game has a well polished finish before it is released. This is where Codemasters shines, wich I have to admitt even though I don' like the majority of the games they publish (OFP being the exception to the rule). I miss the aforementioned quality aspects they added to the game (marketing, voices, etc). But I also appreciate BI's sandbox approach to gaming. If I have to chose I'll stay with BI. Bugs or no bugs.

Consider those that can't play multiplayer
nominesine replied to BKnight3's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Apparently you do care, since you bothered to answer in a very disrespectful way. These forums are usually very friendly to new and inexperienced users (such as yourself) provided that they behave with normal manners. ;) Back on topic. I can relate to the problem at hand. For users without stable internet access ArmA2 is currently a bit like Carlsberg Beer: Worth Waiting for. :) I am one of those die hard fans that remains assurant that all bugs will be ironed out eventually. Experience tells me that it will take some time though. Be patient. Once you manage to patch yourself up to a stable and working version: Make hardcopies of all required patches on a USB stick and bring them on board. Distribute them to the rest of the crew and everybody should be able to join the same lan-server. You don't necessarily have to run the latest patch, as long as it's working and everyone shares the same version. -
Setting AI position in vehicle
nominesine replied to emergency_pants's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
My guess would be: Action (number 6 in the command menu). If that doesn't work I'm afraid you have to order them out of the vehicle and then ordering them back into the desired position: F#-4-2-(vehicle number)-(position) -
I do, and I think it works pretty well as is. As long as the mission designer is aware of it's limitations. I've found a scripted solution to the AI landing problem. In it's current state it's mission specific. I will release it if I find the time to make it generic. Right now I'm more interested in making missions though.

I agree with the original post, even if I don't agree about OFP2 as superior in visual quality. Codemaster's new game looks rather arcadish, judging from the promo videos released so far. But nevertheless I see your point. Codemasters played a major part in making OFP1 what it was. Dialogues and a believable story line has been missing in every BIS release after the break up. This is very unfortunate, in my opinion, since it adds so much immersion to the game. OFP-ArmedAssault-ArmA2 still remains my favourite games. I don't believe that will change if/when OFP2 is released. Unless it's shipped with a fully working editor and a less arcadish aproach. Wich I seriously doubt.

I keep telling myself that I'm into this for the coop mission lan games. But to be honest: I spend 99.9% of my playing time in the editor, building missions that are seldom released outside my lan group, apart from the odd campaign every 3 yers or so. Is there at better way to play? Seriously though: I like the editing part of mission making. It's very much like being a Game Master in an old pen and paper RPG. And missions can be randomized to a point where even the mission maker may enjoy them. Even more so with ArmA2's Editor Modules. I often find my self caught off guard by my own missions these days. That's what keeps me going.

Go to Single Player >> Campaign Chose the "Host" option. Now you will be acting as the server in a MP campaign. Other players may join you over the internet or in a lan game.

Sorry. Spur of the moment question. I was a wee bit unclear. I meant AI landings. I can make it happen with heavy scripting. Just wondered if there was any built in functions in the game that made it easier. But this is more of an editing related question, so I think I'll repost it in an other board, once I've done some more testing.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
nominesine replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I'm a bit puzzled over the video memory function. It doesn't seem to matter if I change between low or high settings. What does it do, really? GPU: Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS (256 Mb) To me that is a low end card, but setting vid mem to hig doesn't seem to place any more strain on it than low settings. So the questiom remains: What does video memory setting do? -
Well, I didn't know this. Thanks for the heads up. I was just trying to figure out if there was any way you could get into a smaller boat from the LHD. You don't happen to know if there's an easy way to make helicopters land on the LHD deck as well, do you?

Nvidia SLI profile patch for arma2
nominesine replied to BigSlongsDaddy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I was able to select and optimize ArmA2 in NVIDIA control center even before I Installed the v186.18 driver, wich (I shamefully admit) I only did yesterday :o Still I fail to see what's new. -
Nvidia SLI profile patch for arma2
nominesine replied to BigSlongsDaddy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm never been able to understand much about drivers for hardware. Would this patch be of any use to my aged graphic card: GeForce 7900 GS? -
Nope, that didn't solve the problem. FSAA reverts back to 0 as soon as I open the game. Bugger
-
Why didn't I think of that?? :banghead: I suppose I can open it will a normal text editor, right?
-
I feared that much. I'll wait to see if the 1.03 patch solves the problem before I do a full reinstall though. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

How do you put stuff on the flight deck of the USS Khe Wossname?
nominesine replied to swoop's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
For vehicles and helicopters I found that setPosASL works better than a plain setPos. For regular units it doesn't seem to matter. Helicopters and planes sometimes start to jump or twitych if they are merly setPos'ed on the deck. setPosASL takes the sealevel into account. setPos does not. -
How to make complete mayhem, west attacks west, east attacks east, civies attack civi
nominesine replied to Perrinmajor's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
To the best of my knowledge: The name of the command is addRating. Seems to be a syntax error. -
Nope. It didn't work. Neither did applying the patch again. I still can't switch on anti aliasing. The only option available to me is "Disabled". The startup screen still says I have version 1.02.58134 installed, and the game is MP compatible with the patch. I'm puzzled.

I have a low end computer and runs the game on low-normal settings. I get 20-30 fps in open areas and 10-15 fps in forrested areas or cities. The game runs very smooth even at low fps though. Normally I would consider 10-15 fps unplayable. ArmA2 runs perfectly nevertheless. Even in MP. Very little lag and no CTDs. My point is: I don't think that fps is all that important in ArmA2. On the rare occasions that I've experienced stuttering and lag, my fps count have been high (25-27 fps).

Roger that. Thanks for the help. I'll try it out tonight.

This part I almost understand ;) If I comprehend you correctly it doesn't matter if I move the aforemented file/folder, because they will be recreated automatically when I create a new user in game. Correct? This part I don't understand at all. What is a diff tool?
-
It's sounds to me as if you didn't have much to do on that particular day :)

My game flows very smooth and I was puzzled when I noticed that I only had 20-22 FPS while playing. I don't experience any lag and textures are loading as they should. Hence I don't think FPS measures how smooth the game will look and feel on screen. To test this further I fired up ArmA 2 and Armed Assault in windowed mode at the same time. Both games dropped heavily performance wise (as expected). The FPS count remained stable around 18-20 during the whole experiment however. My advice: Don't get hypnotized by the FPS counter.

Latest Patch 1.02.58134 - Bonked?
nominesine replied to Demonofloom's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I updated from 1.02 to 1.02.58134 and according to the start screen version number it worked. But nothing changed in the game. I still don't have the option to switch on Anti Aliasing in the options menu. Any one able to shed som light on that?
