I guess it shows how good Right Sector fighters are when a bunch of several dozen lightly armed people is called "several batallions" by russian invaders

"rebels" are shelling and gloating over it since they know Ukraine is binded by the treaty. Which makes any treaty signed with Russia be worth the paper it is signed on. Russian troops reasoning for this is... just... "hey they say Ukrainians aren't surrounded, so that means we are shelling nobody". What

    Ukraine General

Our main mistake is that for 23 years we were so naive and didn't believe that Russia can invade and start killing us. Even despite what they did to all other neighboring countries - Moldavia (Transnistria), Azerbaijan and Armenia (Karabakh), Georgia - TWICE (Abkhazia, Ossetia) and even Chechnya (which was indeed a huge civilian massacre by russians which thankfully backfired at them), and trying to invade Baltic countries - but those escaped under NATO wing fast - before invasion of Crimea nobody in Ukraine believed Russia can do this to us. And Putin is nothing but a product of his own people. Do you really think any russian really believes that a yet another country they invade suddenly became nazi out of the blue eating russian-speaking children? It's just an excuse they use to try and don't look like sick imperialistic invaders to the rest of the world that they are. Every russian knows the truth and they will admit it as soon as they succeed, but while they don't they will make up ridiculous bullshit like a country with an army 40 times smaller invading Russia - Georgia in 2008. Or that their troops in Crimea were just locals who bought all the russian exclusive AK-100s and Tigrs in the nearest 7/11 (those are Putin's words for god's sake). So now it's "locals taking away whole tank and artillery platoons from Ukrainian army using their own bare hands" until (and if) they succeed... The primary question here is this one though - what will Russia do when all the neighborhood they've spent so much effort pissing off finally comes at them crying for retribution?

Lack of content in vanilla Arma 3

All 3. They differ visually but mechanically they are the same plus-minus minor stuff. Like all 3 are amphibious, all 3 carry 8 passengers, all 3 share the same weapon setup save for Gorgon... Until you realize it's just a recolored CSAT missile turret. Now load up Bradley and BMP-2 from ArmA2 and compare them. But that's exactly that - we learned about it around release when it became apparent the game is full of re-used stuff for opposing forces. Last minute excuse for the lack of content what's worse is that Zeus felt like BIS took their own properly done VBS2 real time editor (that is there for something like 7 years) and then cut out all the mission saving/making stuff from it along with seamless 2d/3d editor interface transition - leaving only the object placing in 3D with a simplified interface... If only most of them weren't promised 2 years prior to release and not delivered up until now. And instead of making sides varied - BIS added 2 choppers despite rotary wing aircraft being fine actually. And made them overpriced too. ArmA2 had features added with DLCs too. Except for 12 bucks you had a whole new side, new features, new vehicles, new infantry, new guns and even mini campaign and missions together with some small map thrown in - added to an already varied game. Now they ask 16 bucks for 2 choppers and that's it. Guess realizing that millions of people are willing to pay 30 bucks for an ArmA2 mod that is never going to reach a properly done stage seriously spoiled BIS. You'd think swimming in cash compared to the small budget they had for OFP/ArmA1/ArmA2 would mean a massive game but it's the opposite.

Lack of content in vanilla Arma 3

More like - DLC won't be multiplayer compatible for people who don't buy them if we won't include supporting features into the base game. A forced solution, nothing more. Plus those features were promised to be in the base game 3 years prior to release. And yet we get only SOME of them together with paid-for Train Simulator-grade crap. I wouldn't use that word when talking about ArmA3. APCs and Cars are essentially copy-pasta when it comes to game mechanics - and a really bad one - 0 difference in loadouts and exactly the same turrets on all of them. Unmanned vehicles are just horrible reskins. Everybody uses the same SDAR and SDV. Same grenades for each side. Differences between assault weapons are mostly visual. Even calibers are the same for both CSAT and NATO. Ghillie suits are just recolors. Same NVGs for everyone. Examples can go on and on and on. I mean even the goddamn Merkava still lacks an MG despite the tank 3d model having a holder for it right above its turret. Missions and campaigns play like some amateur mission maker quickly put them together. Zero creativity, hours of pointless filler. And a real-time 3D editor? Where did you see that one? ArmA3 is the laziest job on BIS side thus far. Even ArmA1 wasn't as horribly lazy. I mean - the building destruction that was finally added in ArmA2 is gone. Even goddamn lakes are gone. Maybe they will be added in some $20 lakes DLC though I dunno since apparently BIS has moved from making DLCs that were at least somewhat excusable to completely pointless shit like 2 guns per DLC. But hey at least in other $60 games those cost 3 bucks tops not 16.
  6. BIS incredibly worsened (since godawful PMC/ACR DLC) cash-grabbing laziness. Almost two years post release and ArmA3 is still as dumbed down and lacking tons of content as ever. But hey $16 for 2 choppers in a game where every nation uses the same APC.

Suggestion about AI for future ArmA games

Dragon Rising AI is laughable. And cover-to-cover movement in it is completely scripted like in Call of Duty. And since it's mostly not a corridor shooter scripts work as intended about half the time. When AI in OFP DR gets flanked it suddenly starts behaving like an imbecile completely forgetting about using cover properly or keeping facing the pre-scripted direction (that video shows that well) That's why OFP3 ended up being a linear corridor shooter.

13€ DLC, hefty price for 2 choppers

How about it being a part of ArmA3 on release as was hyped so hard only some 2 years ago? $60 for a game with half of promised features missing and many not being on par with ArmA2 still - was not a fair price? Pay double/tripple price for 2 choppers while CSAT/AAF/NATO are still mostly the same faction with just different skins/models for the same vehicles? How much more $$$ will BIS need to finally give factions unique vehicles instead of adding more to the horrible copy-pasta?

    Ukraine General

This "huge mess" grew from a facebook post of Mustafa Nayem - a very popular ukrainian journalist who asked people to gather at Maidan on Nov 21st to protest Yanukovich turning away from EU. People were gathering through the word of mouth from then on. Political parties completely ignored the event until 4th day in. Meet ukrainian nation. Nobody. I just decided to help because I saw it was too hard for a single guy. They brought what they bought in a shop (mostly bread, meat and salo, sometimes stuff cooked at home). Nobody told them anything. So did my friends. They weren't shot from behind. And yes - they were shot by cops. Incl. a very good person - Sergey Nigoyan that I personally knew (he was shot with a shrapnel from a pump shotgun to his front - and Berkut carries a shitton of these). Cops in every country carry firearms, wake up. It's just a matter of being an inadequate enough retard to use them versus common folk. Care to explain to me ~100 dead, shot by AKs and SVDs used by cops and nearly 500 wounded on 20th Feb? Also "ritual" victims? Shit it was hard for me to believe too that our president can be an insane dictator who would spill so much blood in a capital of our peaceful country - but there you go - fucking REALITY: Man those 5.45 batons right there Molotov cocktails are easily made from 1 bottle, 1 piece of cloth, some gasoline and some motor oil. I now know how to make one too. Soldiers that went through Afghan in 80s were teaching us how to make ones. There were no weapons that penetrated armor of MVD transports - I don't know wtf you are talking about. They were acting on that order since Nov 30th, very brutally. And what revolt? People singing songs on a square? Oh what a revolt! No. It's what I saw with my own fucking eyes on Feb 18th. No it doesn't take any effort for people to get on a bus, stop being silly. Yes I'm from Poltava. And what about him? Why can't you just copy it without getting asked to if you have an access? It's what leaks are - they are always behind backs of everyone. So an LJ user made a list of LJ users he doesn't like. I fail to see any secret operation there.

You seriously underestimate our people. In an era of facebook and mobile phones it's as easy as 1.. 2.. 3.. I myself was a part of a field kitchen (that literally appeared on an empty space with 1 guy cooking food on a barrel and grew from there) which ended up feeding a Hundred of Self-Defense and an Officer Camp - all supplies are constantly being brought in by the random people. There are many field kitchens like ours. Of course there are bigger ones too that belong to charity organizations like Maltese Help. But all are entirely independent of each other even though we sometimes trade stuff for stuff the other kitchen is missing. Is it that hard to believe? I'm sorry, what? You mean weapons used by Maidan - stones, fireworks, wooden bats and molotov cocktails. All that is either handmade or available from the common stores. All that was used by people after 2 months of cops murdering and torturing us. Versus MVD in a full body armor with firearms down to AKs and SVDs which were used to kill nearly a 100 people and wound ~500 on 20th Feb many of which weren't even armed, just helped build barricades. Yes those poor fucking cops. I can also tell you about their "smoke grenades". Those retards were taking their flashbangs, duct taping shrapnel and nails to them and using them as combat grenades. One dude had a muscle torn off from his foot by one, my friend got his foot broken by one - while I fortunately only got a minor wound that I still have to this day as a reminder. So yeah those poor cops. Or when Berkut pushed us from Union Building, blocked it and set it on fire with people inside. Burning floors from top to bottom. People were burning alive in there, some were trying to escape through windows and there was jack shit we could do. Yes tell me more about those poor fucking sadists getting abused by horrible Maidan activists armed with NATO-supplied wooden sticks. Them poor cop batons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjfejEV5C20 Those fucking sadists murdered a hundred people that could do jack shit versus their bullets on orders from a dictator gone mad and all this was happening before my eyes, I could've gotten killed too, I'm also a civilian with no military track record and I've learned that the sound of ArmA sonic cracks from AK and SVD is wrong that day - will you keep telling me this same bullshit about poor cops? I just got onto an intercity bus and I was in Kyiv. Surely took me a huge effort! And I'm from Poltava too which is as eastern Ukraine as it gets. So yeah keep watching that russian TV. What are you talking about? Bro it doesn't take any order to copy and paste Berkut names and phones database easily available to an IT department of SBU. There is no list of Berkut soldiers who were attacking Maidan specifically. Nobody also collected any long list on bloggers who wrote anything about Maidan.

Except you don't need any organization to deliver food, aids, tents, fuel. You go, buy it and bring it to the tent you think needs it. Weapons? People were going with wooden sticks and shields versus bullets on 20th (I didn't even have a shield, only a helmet and a wooden bat) - what kind of "financing" or "weapons" is that? Transport? Ukraine is not that backwards, many have own cars and it's not hard to use a mobile phone to call a friend with a car if you don't have one. Even Maidan self-defense is not monolithic in its organization. Any "attacks" (esp. on well defended buildings) were almost always a failure even despite a sheer advantage in numbers. If only you knew how completely messed up the communication was on Feb 18th in Maryyinski park. It's the defense where we were always strong because you subconsciously know what to do. You don't need money to copy a file at your workspace and upload it to the internet. SBU is not 100% pro-government. There are people who won't stand for their neighbors being beaten up or even murdered. If I see 60+ years old grandma spending her whatever few pension money left to bring meds (which aren't cheap) to the Mikhailivskiy Church to help wounded - I can believe in a cop sticking it up to a system too. You forget you are telling this to a guy who was there and saw it all with his own eyes. As I've said - there was never an organization. Maidan consists of dozens of groups and all act as they please. It's the reason why there never was a single leader or even effective leadership. If there was an organization - it wouldn't take 3 months, 2 of which was just pointless dancing and songs. Look at Bosnia. 3 days = no government. Now that's an organization.
  12. metalcraze

    Ukraine General

You are wrong. Maidan is not headed by anyone (see Jan 19th - opposition "leaders" were the first to run away with their pants filled) and is sponsored mostly by Kyiv citizens. There are many various organizations acting independent of each other which is the reason for Maidan not achieving anything for so long. In fact opposition has their own area at Maidan to which resources are delivered which they share with no one and also common folk was never allowed in there. In fact there were quite a few fights between the people and opposition lapdogs over the months for the stage and buildings with varied results. It's important to know that people at Maidan are not blind and are fully aware of how corrupt and criminal the opposition is. The reason why they were not pushed from Maidan was "an enemy of our enemy is our friend". Plus having at least some political power they were useful to us, the people, in getting to places we couldn't. Of course right now the situation is way more complex. They are in power as the only other force in Parliament except for Yanuk's and of course we have the power to dethrone them but the situation in Crimea makes any internal bickering quite possibly a fatal mistake. They can use this to cement their positions and as much as people on Maidan don't like this (and trust me - many many don't) - there's little we can do with a much more dangerous enemy one foot through our door - Russia.

"Empty stomach" was a problem for the past 23 years. But you didn't see anything like this Maidan before. Because Yanukovich and his crime family went on to rob the country to the max (whereas previous corrupt presidents knew fully well that you have to keep people survivable - the difference between 3 former USSR communist party members and a double convict right there) and then started to violently choke protests. Beating up people with empty stomachs is a very bad idea as thousands of years of documented history tells us. It's too bad Yanukovich was too illiterate to learn its lessons.
  14. metalcraze

    Ukraine General

Because Putin is an insane imbecile who still mentally lives in USSR and considers ukrainians to be same nation as russians. Just look at all the decisions he forced his no less insane puppet Yanukovich to make: The attack on a fully peaceful pro-EU protest on Nov 30th by riot police (Berkut) - in Russia that would be the end of it, people going home, some arrests. In Ukraine it ended up with Kyiv uprising, building barricades, taking nearby admin buildings. Then all the terror tactics through attacks, kidnappings, arrests, tortures, murders committed by Berkut on orders from Yanukovich over the following 2 months on a still peaceful Maidan that was waving silly flashlights, singing songs like hippies - which inevitably led to Jan 19th events when people instead of getting tired and dispersing decided to finally retaliate. In Russia the same happens for all these years and it keeps any anti-Putin minded people in fear. Then Jan 22nd came when cops started killing people with firearms (I knew Sergiy Nigoyan personally, a very good and kind person) - it only revitalized Maidan movement. Then came Feb 18th and subsequently 20th when Berkut and snipers (incl. russian mercs) started mass murdering people armed with wooden bats with AKs and SVDs after a successful counter-attack of Maidan from the flank that was forcing cops to run. Every action Putin took to terrorize the common folk only fueled the national self-identity and of course gave more powers to radical organizations since it's hard to stay all cheery and welcoming when some sadistic retard in a full body armor fires his rifle at you and you only have a wooden bat to defend yourself. It would work the opposite in Russia and it appears Putin is still blind to the fact that we are not the same. So now he naturally went for a Plan B. Open aggression and invasion.

A storm is coming (Arma 3 Zeus DLC)

So basically it's a laughable attempt at VBS real time editor except without the ability to edit and save scenarios being a separate scenario itself? BIS how about you will actually improve the damn game for once? I don't know - spend some time on removing copy pasted stuff so we can finally play with more than one reskinned army? Or add a proper promised 3D editor? Nobody will play this DLC.

    Development Blog & Reveals

Considering how they hyped the horrible excuse for an SP campaign not to mention the tons of false promises in ArmA3 hype itself - it's hard to be optimistic. On the other hand extreme BIS laziness when it comes to any kind of improvement to their butchered game has taught to dream small. Maybe it's even for the better.

VBS2/3 Discussion thread - the one and only

A feature requested for ArmA for many years now - makes it into VBS3 Good to see that at least someone doesn't waste a year on adding such important features as a changed animal behavior instead of everything else to their product.

A storm is coming (Arma 3 Zeus DLC)

Maybe they will move ArmA3 from an early access beta with copy pasted content and arcade gameplay to a final game after so much time? Maybe BIS will actually work on a game for once? That will be one helluva storm for sure! You'd think in a year BIS could do more with this game than virtually nothing.
  19. metalcraze

VBS2/3 Discussion thread - the one and only

From that tech-demo video it looks like VBS3 got IK for trees too. At least branches seem to wave with wind instead of the whole tree incl. its bark. And no popping for grass And it seems that unfortunately with ArmA3 being such a lazy project (especially RV4 in particular being more like RV3 with a new coat of paint whereas VBS3 looks like it has the true next gen RV) we will never see it rise up to VBS3 even with mods.
  20. Yeah. Especially NATO and CSAT which both use rifles firing exactly the same caseless 6.5mm ammo. Oh but guns look different! Just because you didn't know it doesn't mean I shouldn't care about BIS continuing to ruin the game with more arcade balancing while claiming/lying that there's no balancing. Can you tell me where is the difference between NATO and CSAT infantry? Can you tell me what exactly is different between them now? Looks?
  21. Some more arcade balancing. Great job BIS, you are totally doing good thing to the game.
  22. metalcraze

    Weapon sway

And that's great. It certainly removes the ability to snipe people with assault rifles at 400m. It is much easier in ArmA3 when you are prone. Snipers don't fire at 1.5km from crouch/standing stance. Sway is not enough. We need wind to remove the ability for snipers to make easy hits at 500m+ False. AIs are very bad shots at anything above 200m. I can take a generic HAMR and easily wipe a bunch of AIs by simply pointing its optic crosshair at AI and hitting fire while AIs will simply spray and pray. Try putting AIs in your own squad and you will be surprised how bad they are. It may take half a mag for one to put down an enemy while for the player it takes 3-4 shots at most (and only because of soldiers sometimes soaking bullets due to broken ArmA3 armor system)
  23. The point is that all 3 tanks share way too many things in common (and even armor on both T-100 and Merkava seems to be withstanding about the same amount of abuse). No matter the size of the ammo compartment - the amount of ammunition is always the same for all types. If T-100, being a russian tank and all (based on T-99 as far as I can tell), will move to its real 125mm turret with the correct ammunition then no problem. Merkava on the other hand should get its loader too for a realistic 4 men crew. Think sitting inside a tank doing nothing will be boring for a loader? It's 2035 - give loader his own thermal sight and a remote turret. It's only logical that in the future tanks will become stronger and more survivable. In Merkava the loader is also a signaler/radio operator so perhaps some kind of arty computer/support comms will do a great job of giving him more (and real life to boot) functions.
  24. There are MGs present for both T-100 commander and gunner in this update However both T-100 and MBT-52 share 120mm cannon, exactly the same SABOT and HEAT ammo as well as exactly the same amount of it (32 / 16). Same goes for MG ammo (2000). MBT-52 also has FLIR for both its gunner and commander just like T-100 and no night vision just like T-100. The only difference is MBT-52 having worse armor. I was hoping BIS would put at least some effort into a supposedly new tank not copy-paste it again?
  25. metalcraze

VBS2/3 Discussion thread - the one and only

Yes I have VBS2. The amount of fatigue build up is up to a discussion but the point here is that fatigue matters in VBS2 and in ArmA3 it doesn't at all. Are you seriously telling me that after all the effort BIS has put into the dumbing down of wounding system and building 30 missions around it they will start working to at least revert it to how it was before? That's being naive.
