Have you tried running the game with compatibility settings on XP SP2? Might be worth a shot.

Plus what he says isn't even true. If you want a quick fix there are DM servers as well. So you can do what you want, when you want within reason. I once spent 6hrs on one mission and had a hell of a time. Other times I don't have that luxury so will settle for some CTF action. I once joined a server and after an hour or so finished the mission but it had been running for over 14hrs. I wonder if anyone stayed on for the whole time?

So why not have a thread about 1.05 content and discuss that and not the release date? Maybe it won't get closed then......

What's wrong with them?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I just can't believe people still play Counterstrike with games like this available. I haven't even touched VBS since this was released.

The wheels slide when you turn! If you go to 3rd person and they accelerate away and turn you will see the wheels swing like the bottom of a pendulum, with the point of rotation at either the head or shoulders. It looks wrong and worse when in 1st person trying to ride them. To be honest the ride is so incredibly jumpy, even on tarmac that they are no fun at all. Its as if they have no suspension at all.

Me too. Well done BIS. Looking forward to a weekend of death and destruction. And then hopefully a quick game of ArmA!

I saw a program not so long ago about the evolution of the assault rifle. They showed how some of the early ones had crazy amounts of recoil, and demonstrated this by shooting at a helmet perched on a stick from a hundred yards or so away on full auto from a standing position. Most of his rounds missed the target. The reason was that the stock was lower than the barrel and as a round is fired it causes the rifle to rotate around that point causing the barrel to lift. The program then went on to explain how the designer of the M16 raised the stock in line with the barrel causing the force of the recoil to travel straight along the length of the rifle straight in to your shoulder causing next to no lift. I'm no expert on this at all but it made perfect sense to me.

On he subject of FADE, I had always been led to believe that it was just a myth. Does anyone have any proof that it really does make gameplay change in some way?
-
That looks great. As you say I hope this doesn't turn ArmA into yet another FPS CS clone. We'll see how it affects gameplay in MP. If everyone is running around the battlefield firing then I would assume its being abused. :-)

If any of you have seen that episode of Mythbusters where they try out different weapons on a dead pig, they showed that no matter how big the weapon was they fired at it the pig hardly budged. In face the only weapon that did make it fall backwards was a shotgun and only because the pellets didnt pass right through like the rifle rounds did.

I played a really good one the other night. We had to capture a series of towns and villages, about 5 or 6 in total. Respawn as many times as you want and it was really good fun.

Sound issue - vehicles LOUD from miles away
memnoch replied to horrgakx's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I can only assume that it is a problem with the series as positional audion with occlusion and all that other stuff works for all of the other games I play. None of the others have caused that disparity between what I am seeing and what I am hearing. At least directionality is working well as I always know exactly in which direction they are. -
This has happened to me loads of times and I had assumed that I hadn't hidden myself well enough. Can you then "shake" their knowledge of you i.e. run off somewhere well out of site and sneak back from another direction?

I remember this from OFP. Always had a C. Labs. card. Back then it was an Audigy I think and now its a Xi-Fi. As you say, if the problem has been kicking around for years it probably won't be fixed. Perhaps they don't see it as a priority? Either way its annoying. -
I upgraded my system to a Crossfire 1950/1950XTX system today, previously running with just the single 1950 XTX, and could not see any performance increase whatsoever. I have double checked in CCC and it is definitely enabled but does nothing for system performance at all as far as I can see. I did some Google searches and found reference to a bug with SLI systems, where you can rename the arma.exe to 3dmark06.exe. I tried it anyway but that makes no difference either. Anyone else with a Crossfire system care to comment? System specs: XP SP2 MSI 975X Platinum PE Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2GB Corsair Dominator 3-4-3-9 ATI 1950 CE + 1950 XTX C Labs X-Fi Fatal1ty

Just been doing some searching and found these two pages: http://www.driverheaven.net/windows....am.html and: http://acat.arti-sieraden.nl/modules....start=0 that aren't that old that specfically state that there is no profile YET for Crosfire and in fact that renaming the .exe appears to make no difference at all. This leaves me with two scenarios: 1. These guys are right and people who say there are getting a boost are wrong or the boost is something else they did rather than Crossfire. 2. They are wrong, for whatever reason that me be, driver revisions etc. These posts aren't that old so I'm HOPING for my sake that number 1 is the case.

I'm going out on a limb here and say that I don't think the AI will be fixed or at least certainly not with this next patch.
-
I had this MP when using a Javelin. It would appear on your back in 3rd person but you couldn't see it when in use. It did work however, you just had to trust the targetting reticule.
-
Just tried chaning to fear.exe and again it doesn't seem to make much difference. Not the extra 20-30fps you would expect to get on paper certainly. My best best I think is to leave Post Proc. on Low and wait for the new patch and see what that brings.
-
I'll certainly give it a try. I wrongly assumed that this was a purely Nvidia software thing. The 40% is what I had read elsewhere. What I have found with my tinkering is that from the default High setting which just has Shader and Prost Processing set to high, knock Post Processing to Low and I can put all the others to High and it sill runs faster, even in the middle of a dense forest. Not sure what its supposed to be doing on High but it doesn't look any worse.

I've just finished some testing with FRAPS in a forest on the north of the island. With Crossfire on I get around 17-20 fps in the forest, looking straight down this will increase to high 30s low 40s. Oddly if I then reduce the view distance to 500 it hardly budges at all and if I whack it up to 10000 I lose around 5fps. Without Crossfire the values are almost identical. Perhaps a few fps less when view distance is set to 10000. The highest I saw was when I had ran out of the forst down to the coast and looked straight up and got 64fps. That was more like it. I can only assume that either the game needs some severe optimisations or that the way the game works just doesn't seem to take much, if any at all, advantage of Crossfire. All tests were done at 1024 x 768 with the default High detail setting. Only the view distance slider was altered during tests.

Interesting. Problem is I don't have an Nvidia card. The 1950s are ATI. I only mentioned the SLI thing as it was the only thing I could find referencing ArmA and dual card setups. Thanks anyway.
