    This would be huge downside and in my eyes a fail. The OA AI, even in latest (beta-) patches is not sufficient enough, they are still balanced between way to stupid and superhuman (aim-hit capabilities), cant even drive nor nothing "normal" which you would expect from an AI unit. Personally for me, the AI is a CORE feature of the engine, as much as the graphics are for instance. No improvement in this area and most if not all future A3 players would be pretty disappointed. But i doubt that we will see no improvement. I cant believe that no Developer at BIS is working on the AI. A2s AI was a large step forward compared to ArmA1s AI for instance. I believe by final release in 2013, probably not in the Alpha-Stage, we will see a similar step forward for A3s AI. At least all well known AI bugs (Their NON-REACTIONS to sooo many things, no-cant-drive capability, etc) should be really fixed.

    Please for the love of god, do a ticket about this in the ArmA3 CIS. This would be so amazing. But hopefully for all units, not only soldiers, because currently in for instance Chernarus, even the camoed Tanks. stand out of woods (especially at some distance) quite extreme. To easy to spot, etc.

    I Disagree for the red part. When you play larger Online Battles and have to play as a gunner in an Abrams for some long miles before any action starts, there is nothing more annoying than to be glued to this fcking shit target overlay. Trust me. I dont want to constant scan for anything, knowing its miles and very long minutes (even half an hour) away. Of course on realism guys like me, 3rd person is disabled. In OFP i could switch to the "inside" view and my cannon was not moving anymore and i could enjoy looking around inside of the tank, looking up to the commander right above me, even spot some slight "bits" of the blue sky through his little hatch-windows, etc. It was amazing. Its a shame something like this is missing IMHO. If i just would know "how" to do this, if its moddable anyway afterwards without vehicle MLODs, i would not just post such lofty speeches but instead go ahead and do it. Hopefully if not made by BIS, there will be a "window" left in the models to add it later by the community.

    Well for the "low quality" of OFPs Vehicles i found the interiors well fitting. Wasnt even the cannon moving inside the M1 Abrams? Or was this Kinghomers M1Ax ? What i loved most about it, was that when i was the commander in an Abrams, i could look all around outside through these little widows in my hatch, i also could look left below me and saw the gunner. For me it was immersive and breathtaking, like in a full blown Tank simulation. Period. :-) I want that immersive feeling back, even if its later with a larger patch or anything. Give them modelers something to do after release (don't take it seriously haha) I know that its hard to make, even harder when you want to do it in matching quality to the outsides of the vehicles and even way more harder for future Tanks. It would be just the icing on the cake and i bet the press is noticing this in a positive way too. I remember in German ArmA2 articles they did not criticizing the missing interiors, but they were at least surprised that there were none, so this was kind of a non-fulfilling expectation. In ArmA1s nightmare release they clearly written it as "a step back from its predecessor". Such things make the game complete and probably worth a few percent in the ratings.

    Even ArmA1s predecessor, Operation Flashpoint (now known as ArmA Cold War Assault) had Lovely tank interiors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j4wJIAOYqk (at 0:19 - only video i could quickly find). No need for super fidelity, but tanks need this for immersion. That ArmA1 haven't had them was "Ok". It was a rushed out inbetween product between OFP and "Game2" (which later became ArmA2), but that ArmA2 didn't had them was really disappointing. Hopefully ArmA3 will be better in this Area.

    This was a great interview. Very good read. Very nice that Andrew pointed the BI Staff to the ACRE Mod. Something like this included into ArmA3 (maybe as "advanced radio system" placeable by a module in the editor) would be absolutely breathtaking. BIS should hire Noubernou and Jaynus for that :-) On the Chernarus 2.0 matter: I'm all for it. Chernarus 2.0, larger, different vegetation (Summer Setting) and a seaworld to explore all in the new Engine. Would be amazing! As expansion or DLC, or whatever.

    Realistic vehicle damage video

    Yes and as far as i know BIS and the comments from their executive branch over the last years, something "that realistic" will probably never be implemented as it "could hurt" the so called "casual gamer". Not that i support any of such a opinion (not at all actually), but that was what i often got as responses in the last years when suggesting realisitic things for the future ArmA games. And mostly it was features that mods like FFUR/WGL had already in OFP or ACE1 had in ArmA1. Anyway, hopefully they implement a extensible advanced damage model, so later the community could go so far and model radiators, hoses and other stuff into such a damage system.
  12. Absolutely AMAZING Videos guys the last months (if not years). Watched "Rolling Thunder" by Stuntman and some other Realistic and Tactical missions (by Dslyexic and MacScottie) in HD on my Television with some friends having some beer and they were baffeled. They thought this would be a real Military "Simulator" and not a "Game".

    Look at it again in fullscreen dude. The Ai is magically appearing, or "beamed" into the position just a second before the player was "killed". Looks like an animation transition missing, or the Video is missing a few frames.
  14. I highly doubt this will happen this time, give the Community Alpha->Beta ;-) On the topic: Graphic Settings, Start Editor, place me and a few enemy AI and see how they are improved.

    I really hope that there are some BI Devs exclusively working on the ArmA3 AI. Adding new reaction-routines, something which is crucial. In the Iron Front Liberation Game, they added nice things, for instance that AI passengers in (unprotected) Vehicles Backseats, react on their own on incoming enemy fire, ejecting from the vehicle once its below a certain speed and start to fight/protect the vehicle. It also adds to the impression that they care more (actually at all!) about themselves, because staying there in the back will get them killed/wounded for sure. In ArmA2 you need the lame squadleader to give the orders, which he sometimes simply does not, leading to all backseat-passangers getting killed. This is just one of "routines" that desperately need to be added to the AI, if higher performance costs or not (4 Core quasi standard these days, by 2013 i will have a 6-core at least or eve 8-core.) ---------- Post added at 01:33 ---------- Previous post was at 01:30 ---------- Yes, watch it second by second.. the AI is magically appearing like a ghost around the corner and kills him.     Does jogging and running seem odd?

    I hope in the Future there will be a "Stance Set" by BIS, where for instance guerrilla armies, civillians and other units we consider *not SF/HiFI-Military trained* have a more or less "normal" Stance Set. Not Super-Tactical tilted front and so on. Still such units should be able to do all those Super-Prone/Crouch/crouch-Seat/etc when desired. Cheers

    Ya well... that shit is like a drug you know what i'm saying dawg? Total addicted... No other choice than this... See how critic i often be at ArmA Series... Now imagine what i start to throw at people when i'm live seeing them playing COD whaterver, or BattleField xyz. and this in the age of almost 30 or older... Can only bear such crappy high-speed corner-shooters when having at least 4 beer and a package of cigarettes, otherwise i get a too high pulse... hahahah. Haven't tried smookies addon either, but alone from the video i got wet pants... Now this Stuff implemented in ArmA3 and i can't say how much this enhances infantry combat, especially in CQC. Impressive! Highly!

    Wow... i wasn't aware of that...OFP... really that? Are the old Topics maybe still a there? Or sunk with the Ikonboard? I came into OFP through a Preview-Article in the german "PC Games" Magazine around 2000, the free-world-everything-playable idea was a revolution in itself.

    Thanks a lot for that explanation. I'm very keen to see this all myself during the Community Alpha. Since you are the animation Guru, there are 2 things i would like bring up here. 1: In one of ArmA2s early campaign missions (maybe the first?) you are on a hill during darkness with 3 other guys and there is a short screen-sequence played, where the guys are going slowly into the crouch state. This looks so incredibly fluid and realistic and all, i wonder why this animation hasn't been used ever for lets say "soft going into crouch stance", maybe when Mode "Stealth" is selected? I will try to find a Video later or record my own ^^ It looks excellent and way better than Arma2s normal clunky stance-changes. Video: (Look at 7:10 onwards)2: What about a slight tilt to the right when you are aiming? Ticket: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/30635 Anway, with the new Ragdolls, Physics and all, i wonder if it will look similar in ArmA3 when a enemy is hit from short distances (In BF3 it looks very good animated): !Please see it at 0:12 ;-)

    Yes right, i just posted it because i said i will post something that proofs my claim. Hopefully in the final such speeds will not be the case, but lets wait for the alpha how that turns out and what the community thinks.
